BEWARE! A good reputation, beautiful stores, big brand names and microscopes do NOT equal professional quality services! Years ago my insurance man paid for an item purchased in Asia to be appraised. He sent me to Continental Diamond. So when my 73 year old mother lost a stone in a ring, I took her there. I thought I was looking out for her. We entered the store, and were greeted with smiles. We approached one of several individuals behind the tall Customer Service - Repair desk. We shared that we brought in a ring that had lost a diamond. We needed to know what size the stone needed to be, and get an estimate for the new stone and repair. The woman took the ring and placed it under a microscope. She told us that the ring had cubic zirconia and was not gold. It was a metal, and she could not place a stone into it because she could not move the metal. She would need to glue a new cubic zirconia into it. My mother and I were dumbstruck. My mom said are you sure? I have papers on it. The woman examined it again under the microscope and confirmed her original assessment. My mother had purchased the ring in Austin, Texas her hometown years ago. It was from a small family run store she had used for repairs and watch batteries for years. Now she and I were both confused. We felt swindled, humbled and lost. We had not brought her papers with us because we were just adding a stone. It did not occur to us we would need them. So we politely asked how much for the repair. The woman stated $20 for the new piece. So she paid the fee and shipping to have the ring returned to her. When my mom relayed the story to my dad his response was "horseshit!" The next day he located the independent appraisal that had been done for my mom's ring back in 2001. He called Continental Diamond, gave his claim number, and explained the problem. They asked for five minutes to review the ring and gather the information they had. They would call him back. Under four minutes the original "Repair-Sales Representative" called my dad. Due to poor cell phone reception, the call was not connected. He got a cell phone message saying that "Yes, they had discovered the error when they cleaned the ring, they had simply been too busy to call...they'd let them know the difference in price and could put it on the card." (It had been over 24 hours since the ring was dropped off!) He immediately called her back and stated not to touch the ring. They had lost confidence in Continental Diamond, and asked when he could pick it up. She gave the store hours, and said any time is fine. My dad was now even more appalled at the handing of the situation and asked to speak with a manager. After three or four minutes a woman got on the phone. My dad explained the situation to her. She apologized for the way it was handled, said she had looked at the ring and could see the 14k gold stamp inside the band. She offered to have the ring fully "restored" at no charge to my parents. My dad gave the phone to my mom to listen to the story, and make the decision. She went ahead and gave consent to do the repair. The woman said this was going to be a "case study" for what NOT to do at their next meeting...the ring could be picked up two days later after noon. I drove my mother back to pick up the ring. Again we approached the tall desk at the back of the store. My mother stated she was there to pick up a repair and gave a woman we had not seen before the claim check. She went to the back and appeared with my mother's ring in a plastic bag. She simply stated it looks like there is not a charge for this. No smiles, no "sorry"...she looked somber. My mother said that she had talked to the manager and the repair was to be no charge, and asked if they had credited her credit card for the repair and shipping she had already paid for. The woman looked confused, looked at the computer, and didn't think so. She went and asked a tall older man about it. She came back and said she had approval to return the charges. She took my mom's card and when my mom was signing the slip I asked the clerk if she had been told about our situation. She said "Heard a little, but not really." I shared that I was surprised because we were told by the manager that this would be used as a case study of what not to do to a customer at the next training. I asked when their last training was. She told me it was the day before we arrived, and nothing was mentioned about it. WOW!! If this were my store, I would make sure everyone at that counter working that day knew of the situation and rolled out a red carpet! I probably would have included a hand written apology. The lesson learned is work from a position of power. Do your homework so you know what you need. Take your paperwork with you. Do not assume because someone stands behind a "Customer Service - Repair" tall impressive desk with a microscope that they know what they are doing! read more

Our family has enjoyed a long and wonderful relationship with a smaller Minneapolis based jeweler over many years. I was looking to replace a lost diamond in my wife's engagement ring in time for a birthday and our friend kindly referred me to Continental: "With shorter notice they are more likely to have enough inventory to find what you are looking for, don't worry they are honest and well trained over there." After a warm greeting I was paired with Laura McQuillan. She listened first, always a good sign, as I explained my wife lost the diamond several years ago and while having a nice wedding engagement ring was important to her, giant bling just wasn't a good fit. There was no oversell or diamond grade BS, she brought out stones that fit the setting and in no time found the exact right diamond at a flabbergastingly good value. They were able to repair the damaged ring and set the stone with just two days turn around. Though my engagement ring and wedding band were purchased in NYC when I used to live out there, their cleaning and repair service is outstanding. Natalie, one of their repair staff, goes above and beyond to make customers happy and to provide good service. When a diamond fell out of my engagement ring due to wear against the wedding band, she did everything she could to fix it, avoid future stone loss, and do it at the lowest price possible. Roz is a fabulous sale person to work with and we always look for her when we go. Helain is wonderful, too, and helped my younger sister and her husband design their wedding rings/engagement ring. There are not enough stars for me to rate how wonderful Continental Diamond is. They have a fabulous store with a ton of inventory to choose from. They always are well staffed and I have been warmly greeted and asked what they could do for me each and every time I have gone in. The work and repairs they have done on my engagement ring have been extensive and completed to the highest standard of quality. (My engagement ring was my fiance's grandmother's so the age had to to do with some repairs, and others had to do with fixing the terrible work of another jeweler that worked on the ring while in Florida). I was ready to throw in the towel and just get a whole new setting without all these problems until Continental Diamond made me feel 100% confident that they could fix it all. And did they ever! They repronged the center stone, lowered it for safety measures, added to the baguette's to make sure they would stay secure, bled out the white gold (where ANOTHER jeweler in Florida had tried to fill in a spot on the platinum band with white gold and did a terrible job) and filled it seamlessly with platinum, and fixed a crack in the shank that they found. Natalie was beyond wonderful to work with. She explained EVERYTHING to me and studied that ring for over an hour to make sure we got it back in tip top shape. Michelle, the one who worked on and repaired the actual ring did a phenomenal job as well. The turn around time for the majority of the work done (repronging, lowering the center stone, adding to the baguettes, and bleeding out the white gold) was completed in ONE DAY! And the other work I had done was finished in a matter of two or three days. Just unbelievable service! I can't say enough about this business-I will never go ANYWHERE else for my jewelry or jewelry repairs. Additionally the service has been excellent all around - everyone we've had contact with has been knowledgeable and genuinely interested in making sure the ring is perfect. I have very small fingers and they have worked very hard to get it sized properly with little or no expense to me (my whole ring essentially had to be remade twice to size it down...), and without ever making me feel like a burden. We are currently looking at a wedding band for my fiance and in general I believe for the quality of the jewelry and the high quality of the service, it is worth it to pay a bit more. Improved My Life, one chain link at a time! Seriously!!! Life changing! So, I have severe hypermobility and have recently been prescribed finger and thumb splints. Well, the chain for my thumb splints needed to be adjusted to properly fit me. After scouring the internet for a place I could trust with this alteration, I decided upon this jewelry store. Last week, I entered Continental Diamond nervous about explaining the special request and was quickly put to ease by the kind staff. Natalie, in repairs, not only was incredibly helpful, but she was ever so patient as we went through many chain links to get just the correct fit for both of my hands. She literally was a part of changing my life, how I operate my thumbs with these splints, one chain link at a time. I also felt listened to, which is important as customer in a jewelry store. I had the same issue as a reviewer below with a custom made ring. It literally broke on two places and I lost a very valuable diamond. I replaced it with a much less valuable stone but when they put it in, the ring is now out of shape. When I look at the ring, it makes me very sad. I loved the ring. We had a bad experience here. They are probably great when it comes to just buying something that they have in stock, but I do not recommend them for custom work. The ring my fiance got for me from there was absolutely beautiful, but within 4 months, 4 diamonds had fallen out of the halo of the ring. I had to have it sent back to the manufacturer twice (for 3 weeks at a time) to get it fixed. When another diamond would fall out, they would make excuses saying something like "well, we had them rush it because we know you wanted it back" (even though I hadn't asked for it to be rushed). I will say that finally they admitted defeat, and said they couldn't make the ring durable as it should be, and they gave us our money back. Which means now I will end up with a ring that my fiance didn't use to propose to me - it makes me sad, but I also need to have a ring that won't fall apart every month. The only reason they are getting 2 stars from me instead of 1 is purely because they gave us our money back after 4 months of hassle. I just would NOT recommend them for anything custom made or anything that involves micro-pave specialty work. They don't have the capacity or know-how to do it, but they will tell you that they do. If you want something custom-made, find a place that does the work in-house, so you know you're actually talking to someone who can do the work, not just a sales person. read more

Truly an amazing experience from start to finish! This place is doing everything right!! We heard about continental diamond via a bridal page on Facebook and on KFan as well, so we thought we'd check them out. We did not purchase my engagement ring through them, as we didn't live in the area around that time, however, we were not treated any less important than if we had. From the moment you walk into the stairs you are greeted by a smile and kind face. The vibe is not pushy or 'sales aggressive' at all. We were interested in purchasing my wedding band, as well as having my fiancés father's ring brought back to life and engraved with our wedding date, as well as his parents. We were assisted by several different jewelry experts, helping us find the perfect band for me, and made to feel very confident that our vision for his dad's ring would be brought to life, too....and for only $50!!! We had the WORST service! We found a beautiful ring there but there was no way we could have that engagement ring and be reminded of the awful service. Laurel was SOO rude. From the very beginning of speaking with her I told her exactly what I wanted - yellow gold - and numerous times she tried to talk me out of yellow gold telling me I would have to replace my wedding ring in the future when I came to my senses and realized I wanted white gold. Fabulous watch repair-do NOT go anywhere else. Brought my watch in to be fixed and problem was solved in under 10 minutes, and at no charge. This was after another jewelry store sent out my watch to their "authorized repair center" and was going to charge me $240 to repair it. Watch out - there are some crooks out there. Bring watch repairs to Continental Diamonds- they have a watchmaker on site with 30 years experience who is honest, knowledgeable, super nice guy. My boyfriend and I went to Continental as part of the search for my engagement ring. Continental is consistently voted the top store for engagement rings by Minnesota Bride, so I had high hopes for the store. Out of the 6 stores we went to in the Twin Cities, Continental was by far the worst. It was actually our only negative experience while ring shopping. We walked into the store and straight to the ring area. All of the sales people were busy, so we just kind of stood around awkwardly waiting for someone to help us. The manager came over and introduced himself, so having a pretty good idea what I was looking for, I described my ideal ring to him. After I wasted my time telling him what I was looking for and showing him pictures, he told us that he doesn't know anything about their ring inventory, and I was going to need a sales specialist to help me. When we finally got some help, I explained to the woman what I was looking for. She bluntly told me that I was too picky and that the only way I would get what I wanted was to design my own ring. She didn't even want to show me anything in their inventory. The funny thing is, I was looking for something so simple! She didn't even want to waste her time showing me different styles. Also, their inventory is small compared to other stores I looked at. They advertise everywhere about their great selection of rings, but it is tiny in comparison to Arthurs or Wedding Day Diamond. My bf and I left the store, disappointed in the service, and took our $25k purchase somewhere else. And I didn't have to design my own ring. I found a beautiful ring that I love at a store with a much better selection, and a helpful sales specialist that was patient enough to walk me through the whole process. read more

My fiance purchased my custom designed engagement ring from Continental Diamond 6 months ago and I wish we could turn back the clock and get it from any other jewelry store. Not only do I get stink-face from each and every salesperson I talk to when I go into the store, I also have them ask me MULTIPLE times whether my ring was purchased there or not- assuming because it was custom designed and they don't recognize it. (I understand this must be asked, but should I have to be asked 3 times by every person at each visit to the store?) Not only that, but less than two weeks after receiving my ring, the prongs were already loose- note that I never wear it working out, cleaning or while sleeping. I took my ring in to get them tightened and was asked 5 TIMES!!! by the manager if my ring was purchased there- so completely demeaning and unprofessional. While attempting to fix my ring, the jeweler chipped my center stone... and it took anther week to get a new stone in and fix my ring. Then, after asking them to size up my ring 2X and being told it wasn't necessary and I would just "get used to the tight feeling" I went in to politely demand they help me and size my ring up. Finally, they did and wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount (although I had been told the first ring sizing was free). When I asked about that policy, the salesperson told me I was correct, but still wanted to charge me. I told her that was silly, especially since I had previously asked to have my ring sized and was told no. After 10 minutes of waiting, the manager finally ok'ed my first free sizing- but then I was told it could take up to two weeks. Seriously? This stores high ratings are a joke! I am insisting my fiance get my wedding band made elsewhere, so as not to deal with these snobby salespeople and nickle & dimer's ever again! read more

I brought my Tag Heuer watch here to get it re-sized. First a little background. I had brought this watch into a different store that I probably shouldn't have trusted and they ended up beating on it and scratching the sides of the band a lot because they couldn't figure out which way to remove the pins. On a completely unrelated note, never take your watches to Kohl's to get it resized, even if it is free. Now back to where I was... I brought my watch in that I didn't buy here to get a couple of links taken out of it. After telling their watch specialist Jim Goldfarb about my little predicament, he laughed a little bit and said, "Let me take a look and see what I can do." After about 5 minutes, Jim had removed the links and had even polished the sides of the links that were scratched and brushed/polished the rest of the band. The links looked like they were brand new again! I was expecting a fairly good bill for this work and Jim just smiled and said, "Now you know the difference between a store that doesn't know what they're doing and one that does. Just remember that when it comes time for your next need." I was blown away at how helpful and professional everyone there was. I definitely recommend going there. Although I don't have tons of money to spend on jewelry, I know that if I can, I will do business here again because they treat you so well! read more

I recently had the pleasure of purchasing a diamond engagement ring from Continental Diamond. To make this review more useful let me first tell you a little about myself. First, I am VERY analytical. Second, I am VERY frugal. This is a tough combination when shopping for a diamond. This is a very important purchase that I'm only making once in my life, and I spent my time analyzing all the various options. I went to multiple stores (including online), read A TON of information about diamonds, and become knowledgeable about diamonds all in an effort to make the most informed and best decision possible.
