I came in to have a dent removed from my front fender, and owner came out and said "oh I can fix this in 2 seconds." He grabs a tool and fixes the dent with the dent remover in seconds just like he said he would. He didn't charge me a thing. I went around to multiple shops in the area that morning. I explained to all of them that this a commuter car and I don't care how it looks I just need the dent popped out. One place said it's going to cost $2000, another place said a couple hundred dollars. This owner was honest and didn't try to charge me an arm and a leg. I highly recommend this place because of the honesty and integrity the owner has. I will be coming here for future repairs. read more

I was referred to Tom Robertson owner of Contra Costa Auto Body and Paint by my friend Gary Lavere who is owner of Lavere's VW Restorations in Pleasant Hill, when my 2001 VW Jetta was victim of a hit and run with a stolen car in the middle of the night while parked outside of my home in Berkeley. Tom came directly to Lavere's when I brought my car in for Gary to look at, and was friendly and professional. He was direct in telling me what he could and could not do and what it was likely that my insurance would say and do. I completely trust Gary Lavere (email me for that amazing story) with my beloved VW, and so it was not hard to trust Tom, with whom Gary has done business for over 20 years. My car went in on a Monday with extensive damage to the driver's door, the rear passenger door , the back bumper and the door frame. Tom estimated that the damage would result in a total loss (as I guess insurance will only pay for repairs up to 75% of Kelley Blue Book. We talked about him sourcing used doors and he quickly was able to put that together and bring the cost down to what my insurance would pay. My car was with Tom for two weeks, in which time Tom called me a couple to times to "check in" and tell me how things were going. When the clear coat on my rear bumper didn't turn out perfectly, Tom called me and told me that he wanted to redo it. He rented me a car to have over the weekend with insurance, and got it taken care of. I have my car back, and it turned out beautifully. You would never know that it was damaged like it was and working with Tom was just like Gary Lavere said it would be....friendly and professional. I took my two month old 2013 vw tiguan in to have the paint on the bumper fixed. I had gone to four other shops and was not happy with the prices or the customer service at the other body shops. I first used Tom's shop for a small paint project on my '68 Camaro about 7 years ago. At the time, his shop was at the Arnold Industrial Way location. He has since relocated to a spot just off Monument Blvd across from Orchard Supply. Much better location overall. My first experience was to paint and install the rear spoiler that was not done when the whole car was painted. His prior work was perfect. In fact, his paint turned out to be the best paint on the (repainted) car. Fast forward 7 years. During a music video shoot (yeah I know, kinda cool right?), a camera slipped off the mount and cracked the paint on the hood. There was no way around that one: the hood needed patching, paint, and clearcoat. Since the producer said he would cover the cost of repair out of his pocket, finding a resonable quote was also important. I intended to go to CC Auto Body first, but couldn't get there with the car at a time when Tom was there as well. After getting two outrageous quotes from other nearby shops, I finally met up with Tom and his quote was 1/3 the price of the others! I should point out that even though I was only looking for a simple hood repair/repaint, the other shops were reluctant to even give a quote (one shop gave me a quote, but expressly stated his wish that I take the job elsewhere!) It would be like asking a contractor to quote a basic bathroom remodel, and the whole time he keeps pointing out how the rest of your house sucks and won't match the amazing quality of his bathroom job! Tom is a straight shooter, gives a down to earth quote, and ultimately delivers a top notch result. Much like his last work, the finish on the hood glistens like a mirror - it is now the best paint on the car. Highest recommendation. read more

Last year, I brought my scooter parts to Tom to get painted. He did a fantastic job. Last week, unfortunately, my scooter technician spilled a solvent on my front end and permanently damaged Tom's paint job. I took the piece back to Tom and, within a few days, it was as good as new! After reading all the good reviews, i went here to get an estimate for my 3 month old 2015 honda civic on a Tuesday morning. I got into a fender bender and my right front fender got some scrathes and dents in it. I was convinced with the estimate and Tom seems to be a great guy, so I decided to drop my car off the same day. He said it will only take two days and that it will be ready by Thursday at 3pm. I came back that date and time and it wasn't. So i have to make arrangements again on how to go to work and how i can pick it up the next day. I picked up my car 2 hrs later than he told me to just to make sure that it is ready and guess what, the minor fixes we agreed that he will do wasn't done. Aside from fixing my right fender, he agreed to install my door edge guards after doing a little touch up on my door edges. He told me to come back on Monday morning instead coz his workers are on lunch break. Later on, i found out that he also didnt do the touch up so i came back and all of a sudden, he said if i can wait for like 10mins, they can do the touch up paint and install the edge guards. I waited and thought that everything is ok when he drove my car up in front of the office. I got home and found out that they didn't install back the black screws to keep the rubber attached to my car on the right side. I even found the black screws on my passenger side seat, i called him and just like last time, his solution is to bring it back monday. Over the weekend, me and my boyfriend are examining their paint job, we found out that they really did a messy job. My headlights got so foggy and cloudy which is not something that you should expect in a brand new car. My car's left and right fender also has like paint bubbles, they didn't do a flawless and smooth job. We went back Monday and showed it to him, he said he can fix it in 2 hrs. We got back there after 2 hrs and they are just washing my car so i waited. He brought my car up front the office again for me to examine, it looks good to me so i left. Later on this week i was wiping off the dust outside my car, and notice that my right headlights edge is still cloudy. My hoods front part has white paint dots in it. Things that i wasnt really able to see coz we were under the sun when i was checking it infront of him, but now that i am under my shaded parking garage, i can really tell. The silver part of the bumper goes from smooth to dull. The paint bubbles that was gone when i checked was probably remove in a harsh way, looking at my car, i can see some scatch marks reflecting on it. I can tell coz thats the only side that looks like that, it is not shiny anymore. There's also some visible dents on my left fender where they are just suppose to do a clear coat in which i do not recall being there, otherwise, i would have fix it too. I was not really happy with the job that they have done, i have to come back two times and still the paint job is messy. It is very unprofessional and they get their paint everywhere. I brought my car here to restore its pre accident condition but instead it got worse. The parts that wasnt even affected by the accident was affected by their unprofessional work. So if you love your car, do not bring it here. It will probably be a little bit cheaper than other body shops, but it is not worth the time and headaches. While entering my garage at a funny angle I accidentally rubbed my car against the garage wall. I thankfully didn't dent or ding my car but house paint was on my car. I didn't know if I rubbed the paint off my car or not. I started calling shops near me. The first two said there may be much more than just a paint issue and they will have to see the car. When I called Tom @ Contra Costa Auto Body and told him I what I did he asked me if house paint was on my car. I said "yes" and he told me " I have something that will take it off and it will only take a couple of minutes, and that might be the only problem. With his honesty and not looking for the $$$$, but to take care of someone, I had an immediate comfort level with him and took my car to him. He took the pain off and said it was my only issue and he didn't even charge me. Best car shop ever! Tom is really friendly and helpful. As an international student, it's so easy to get ripped off by people who doesn't have work ethic. But Tom is not like that at all. I asked several car shops around the area, one told me 85dollars/hr to check what's wrong without fix my car and it takes 2-3 hours to check lol while Tom said 75/hr and it takes an hour to check. I decided to do it with Tom. At the end, he only charges me 50 dollars. Where you can find a good business man like that? He could've charged me 75. So I strongly recommend you to check this car shop out. read more

The roof molding on my Honda CRV came loose several years ago. Based on another shop's recommendation, I used silicon and black tape as a temporary fix. With the heat this summer, the tape kept coming off, so I had to get this fixed. I got two estimates based on Yelp reviews. The other shop said the roof moldings needed to be replaced and gave me an estimate of $300-$400. . Tom listened to me, and said that probably it was just the clips that had broken off. He ordered the parts (less than $20) and gave me an estimate for fixing the problem which was less than $150. Most of the cost of the repair was for getting rid of the silicon glue! I decided to go with Contra Costa Auto Body. At first I was nervous because phone calls weren't returned promptly, but when Tom called back, he said the job was all done. They even washed the car. I was very pleased with the workmanship of Tom's mechanics and his problem solving skills. Wish I had contacted him two years ago. Then I wouldn't have put all that glue on the car, and could have had this fixed two years ago! read more

Amazing shop and will not take my vehicles anywhere else. My girlfriend got in a car accident and like anyone else was freaked out that her car would be totaled out. We took her car both to Mike's auto body as well as Tom's shop. We liked Tom but we wanted to get the car taken care of quickly and AAA insurance told us that Mike's auto body would be the quickest. Not only were they not the quickest taking care of her car but they also are a rip off. They told my girlfriend and I that her car was totaled out, but I didn't believe it. We kept getting two different stories with her car. I took the car to Tom when I found out that you can actually go to anyone you want by law. I took my 2001 BMW 740il and Tom gave me a great price on repainting the back side of the car because the clear coat was coming off, plus a lot of other repairs I asked him to do.
