no idea what's going on with the studio. i dropped by today May 30th, and it appears that nobody has been in the studio for quite some time as there is a pile of mail on the floor and the sign on the door says that the store will reopen early may. the hours on yelp/google/the studio itself do not align at all either.i hope the studio does reopen as it was a great place to try on shoes and get appropriately fitted. read more

We get my daughter's pointe shoes from here. She was fitted here and they are so helpful and have amazing stock.

I hate to write such a negative review. Word of caution inspect any merchandise that is purchased here before leaving the store. I purchased a pair of contemporary shoes for my daughter on Friday and we went home and she dance around the carpet on Saturday. She complained about them hurting. I put them up and came to exchange them today (Wednesday) and was told they were used and she couldn't return them. I will never return here and advise others to use extreme causation when purchasing an item that my daughter was sized for, apparently incorrectly too. read more

I have found Yelp to pretty accurately predict the experience one can expect from a business. Read the other 1 star reviews because they say it all. For our experience my daughter was poorly treated while replacing her pointe shoes The shop seemed to have incorrect records or her previous fitting and spent most of the fitting chatting between the owners about why her foot didn't fit their records. Odd right? One of the owners was flat out rude and disrespectful of both my daughter and me. My daughter has been dancing for 13 years since she was barely 2. So. We have at least some familiarity with shopping for gear. We will go back because they are the only show in town anymore. I have given enough information in this review that the super rude and entitled owner will know it's me. I hope she reads this thoughtfully and treats my family differently when she sees us again. And. They claim to be acting under the instruction of the Contra Costa Ballet Company. They pushed my daughter to shoes that didn't fit well because they were preferred by the Company. They were awesome. We called ahead and asked if we could come in without an appointment. They said yes but we may have to wait between other appointments. No problem. They said they require masks and we have masks. We got there and Coco, one of the owners helped us right away. She got us the right sized ballet and jazz shoes and while my daughter was trying them on we chatted. She is lovely. I am so happy we went there. read more

All of my experiences here have just been okay. You get when you see, I didn't find them to be very helpful when I have asked for help looking for something or for creativity. I have bought my daughter's dance shoes here for several years but sadly, I don't think I will be back. Service has never been the friendliest, which is fine, polite is enough for me. But since covid I feel like they are annoyed we are even there. We went last summer and it wasn't a great experience but decided to give it another try. We went back today and didn't have masks with us because we didn't think they were required anywhere anymore. The lady was fairly rude and barked at us to stay outside. I asked if they had any disposable masks that we could use to come in a buy shoes and she said "Don't you have masks in your car?" (No, I did not have masks in my car.) I don't mind that they require masks in their store, but I feel they should offer disposable masks for customers without them. Or at the very least, be friendly about it, e.g. "I'm so sorry, we can't let you in without a mask." I was just put off by the whole vibe of the interaction. And reading the other reviews it sounds like I'm not the only one unfortunately. read more

What a disappointment. I went in to find tap shoes. The woman helping me had a very strange and off-putting demeanor. She asked me if I wanted to get flex or regular tap shoes. I said I didn't know the difference and she offered zero explanation. She brought me one shoe to try. It didn't fit. So she brought me the same style in a larger size. I told her I was hoping for some guidance. She said that everyone is different so she can't really offer any help. She said there are many options to choose from. So then why is she only showing me one model? There is a sign that says "$20 charge for shoe fitting with no intent to buy." I was hoping to buy but there was zero shoe fitting going on! She never measured my foot. She would just hover over me but say nothing. Very strange. I finally said that I needed to do more research before buying since I realized that my hope for help was not happening here. Completely discouraged, on my way home I looked for another store and called East Bay Dance Supply https://eastbaydancesupply.com/. OMG the man who answered the phone talked to me for 20 minutes explaining about the various styles of tap shoes and over the phone recommended the shoe for me to get after talking to me about what I was looking for. Do yourself a favor and buy from East Bay Dance Supply. They no longer have a brick and mortar but there is curbside pickup and free shipping to SF east bay. He deserves the business. The ladies here were so accommodating . I came her to buy/get fitted for pointe shoes for the very first time. They helped me choose the right pair of pointe shoes. They took their time to help me. When I was done they also help pick out the right accessories and sewing supplies. They were very kind and helpful. I will definitely going back ! read more

One of the ladies was super rude. I didn't have a mask because they are not required anymore and asked the lady if she had an extra one. She basically yelled at me and kicked me out of the store. Then she went outside asking "what do you need!?" She then gave me a mask to wear and closed the door at me. I entered the store and waited to be helped and another lady helped me. I got my ballet slippers and left. This is my first time here and won't be back. The customer service is horrible. I'd rather buy from Amazon or go out of town to get my next shoes. If I could do no stars I would. These people are rude, condescending and belittling to children and their parents. My daughters were getting their first pointe shoes and they were SO HARD ON THEM. Then I came back for jazz shoes and they turned me away for no mask even tho the county has lifted the order (would have been happy to wear one if they had one to give... was on foot and didn't have access to one). She was rude and not accommodating even though I said I'd wait outside for the shoes. It's a travesty that they have a monopoly in the area on dance shoes. I hate writing bad reviews and I usually look at the reviews before I go somewhere but I just needed to shop where it was opened. Went by with my 3 year old to shop for her to start ballet. The owner is very covid hyper sensitive and I get it but if you have a business don't treat your customers as if they are diseased. She had us sit on a couch and gave us shoes from a far distance and wouldn't get close to anyone. My little one had a mask on and she asked me to lift it higher, really? It's on her face already do you want me to tape it on? I would have spent more money because I need more things but I was really irritated over how she treated us. Like someone who reviewed previously, if there was a negative star I would give them one for sure! We tried to support local stores during this hard time where we can. It seems like this shop particularly does not care at all! I asked the lady if we could just quickly grab one school uniform and go, and she let me in, but after a few seconds, she changed her mind and very, very rudely said I had to wait outside. The store was not busy at all and I can literally see the leotard hanging on the shelf. This happened after all COVID restrictions had been dropped as well. Wish I read the other reviews before going there today. Worst experience ever. I took my 10 years old daughter to the store to get her ballet shoes and leotard. The lady helping us did not explain anything about the shoes, but she threw the shoes to us, and said 'try them'. When I tried to ask some questions, she showed the attitude that she wanted me to stop talking. When my daughter tried to ask some question, the lady said 'Don't come closer, just stay there."in the rudest attitude. Wow. She treated us like we are COVID patient. What saddens me was my daughter was really looking forward to shopping her ballet goods with me, but that ended with unpleasant and disappointing feelings. My five year old and I walked in today only to be turned away because we didn't have masks on. We don't carry them anymore as they are no longer mandated by our state/county. If you're still going to implement a policy (that doesn't even make a difference in spreading covid) then at last have masks available for patrons. They were incredibly rude about it. I made an online appointment for a 30-minute shoe-fitting, when I got there I was asked what type of shoes my son needed and what is his street shoe size, I was brought two different sizes and she stood there expectantly, I didn't know I would be doing the shoe fitting that I assumed she would be helping with, as I have no experience with dance shoes. There was zero conversation, help, or advice in general or about the shoes themselves, she told me was a wooden board he could test the shoes on, and that's about it. She went and stood behind the counter while I helped my son with the shoes and had them rung up before I was even finished... There were a few customers in the store before we got in and she seemed pretty friendly with them but when we came in it was like she couldn't be bothered with us. We were very excited to get my daughter fitted for her first pair of pointe shoes! We got a tip to ask for Cathy and she was an absolute gem! She tried maybe 6 pairs on my kiddo, each time asking her to get up on her box, assessing the fit and comfort, even remarking on her pretty feet (Feet can be pretty?!). I love that they basically start an "account" for you and take notes on fit so you're not starting from scratch next time. They also have a loyalty program! Dance gear can get so expensive! So I really appreciate that. That being said, I didn't give a five star review because they are limited on selection and didn't have some if the items my daughter had researched online. We drove all the way from the east bay to this store to buy items for my daughter. My daughter and I are Black Latina and when we first walked in we were met with a rude glare. She did not welcome us to the store nor did she ask if we needed help with anything. She stared us up and down as if we were thieves and made us feel very uncomfortable. My daughter gained interest in a pair of shoes she had seen before and brought them to me to show me excitedly. The woman interrogated my daughter about where she got the shoes why she was grabbing them and that she should touch anything without asking for help. There were no signs that said don't touch ask for assistance and my daughter is 11 years old. She then told us we needed to back up away from her because of social distancing and we were no where near her. It seemed like she just wanted us to leave the store. To me, this was her reaction because of our skin color and highly unacceptable. To take this a step further, my white husband went into the store directly after we had that experience to talk with her. When he walked in by himself she greeted him with kindness and immediately asked him if he needed help with anything. He then went on to say that was his family that she just racially profiled and is now in the car in tears because of her attitude. This employee or manager or owner needs to be removed from helping people and I do not recommend this store to anyone. It's too bad this is the only dancewear store around. They have a monopoly on dance wear in the area and they know it, that is why they feel comfortable being rude to their customers. They have gone rogue and are still enforcing a mask policy, even though the county dropped its mandate and the CDC says they don't work. They claim to be immunocompromised. The Asian owner was the worst, and treated my kids and me like a walking plague. This woman has no business in a customer facing role. I was told by another employee I can go to San Francisco, the next closest dancewear place, if I didn't want to comply. Really? This and telling me how to wear a mask was the condescension I had to deal with on what was supposed to be a fun day for us. Had I known I was going to deal with this, I probably would have made the trip to SF, but we were there and my daughter needed her shoes and was almost in tears. Skimming many reviews, I see this store has a chronic issue with customer service and hyper paranoia with covid to the point of making customers feel dirty. The one star goes to the lady helping with the fitting, she took the time to find the right shoes for my daughter. I don't suspect this store will get better in the areas it's lacking. The only thing that will motivate change will be another store opening in the Tri-Valley and them losing revenue. I had such a bad experience with the customer service today. I made an appointment for a pointe ballet fitting for my daughter and I did not realize I had to bring my daughter's previous pointe ballet shoes. The first lady asked me what pointe ballet shoes we had. I mentioned we had Bloch. She responded that there are so many Bloch, which Bloch? She sounded so irritated that I did not recall. She then proceeded to ask my daughter to sit on the bench and ask me again which Bloch shoes. I responded that I truly cannot remember since it has been a year. And her response was: "Yeah but that means I have to bring out alot of shoes." I was so appalled by that rude answer. If the sales person does not want to bring out alot of shoes for a fitting appointment, I don't want to be your customer. Totally unprofessional. I was so so ready to walk out of that store. And yes, I get we need to be careful with COVID. I respect 6 ft social distance but she made us feel so uncomfortable by standing away as far as possible and stretching out her arms as far as possible to pass shoes to my daughter as if we are the COVID virus ourselves. Thank goodness that I was eventually helped out by the owner who brought out more than 10 pairs of shoes for my daughter to be fitted. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE I was really glad to see a "We Moved" sign in front of the empty space Contra Costa Dancewear used to occupy. They moved, but not far! They're practically across the street now, just a block down or so. I've walked in before, just looking around. Sometimes dance stores have great Burning Man clothing (though most of my B.Man items are found in thrift stores...) Today I actually was in search of a specific item. I need cat ears for a Cat Festival at the Great Wall in Oakland this weekend. I started with this place because it's closest to work, but unfortunately, they don't carry any cat ears. However, the super nice gentleman working suggested another store I could try (Encore) and also said a party store may carry them. It's always great when one business has no problem helping you find what you need, even if that's at a competing business. read more

Walked in and warmly welcomed. I told him I was just returning to ballet and would need everything. He asked which studio I joined, & he was familiar with the instructor and her uniform requirements. My shoes were meaured and the elastic was sown (no extra charge). The prices were reasonable, & it was nice to be encouraged to return to ballet and that my purchase was an investment. The customer service is absolutely horrible. I've never been treated so disrespectfully by a business before. I feel bad for the many local businesses that are struggling because so many people are now buying things online. I wanted to support a local business but with the way I was treated, I will go back to ordering online. I took my daughter and her friend to buy their first set of Jazz and tap shoes here. When we arrived, we were asked to wait outside because they are limiting the amount of customers inside due to Covid( no, problem, we completely understand that). We waiting outside for 15 minutes and another customer showed up saying that they were there to just pick something up. We kindly said "no problem, you go ahead". They were in there 15 minutes and our total time waiting outside was 30 minutes. We were ok with waiting but when we got inside, the woman helping us asks us if we could " make our decisions quickly", she had an appointment coming in. I couldn't believe what she was saying so I said "no, we kindly waited outside and let someone come in before us". She kept arguing with me and then she said that they had a busy day. This is a wonderful store. I went in and was greeted by Miss Coco. I was able to voice my needs and Miss Coco and her coworker (sorry can't remember her name) offered assistance and were very knowledgeable about the products I needed. I keep meaning to leave this review. I was looking for simple dance slippers but wanted to try before buying as it's been years since I've donned a pair. I searched before going and this seemed to be the closest and best option. While the assortment was predominantly designated for ballerinas as opposed to ballerinos the associate that helped me found exactly what I was looking for. I was in and out the door in a matter of minutes even with her taking the time to measure my feet. Point of sales was modern and easy... Most importantly, I can attest that their was an associate sewing ribbons in a pair of pointe shoes! read more

This is my favorite dance wear store. We would frequent their old location for 3 years, but haven't been there for awhile. Well, we were in a pinch for a new leo and pair of leathers. We drove to the old location - closed. Googled the store name. Found the new location down the street. More free parking, easier to get to :) The service is always excellent. If I could give negative stars I would. We drove to Walnut Creek to get 4-5 pairs of dance shoes and clothes. We walked in and we started to look at the clothes. The Asian lady with glasses yelled in a very rude manner that we must all stay together and go to the couch and she will help us. Mind you there was no one in the entire store except us and 2 employees behind the desk. I let her know we needed to buy shoes and look at some clothes. Before I could tell her the style and shoe sizes we needed. She snapped back "fine, I won't help you until you guys look around but you have to stick together and then go the back by the couch". Puzzled and intimidated by the hostile way she was treating us we decided it was best to leave. We walked out and I turned and told her that she was a very rude lady and we left. I absolutely love this store. The women who work here are incredibly knowledgeable and take the extra time to make sure pointe shoes (and all footwear) are properly fit and comfortable. The choice of dancewear is always top quality and best brands. I see many negative reviews due to their considerate covid protocol which is unfair.
