This is one of my favorite Irish pub style bars I've been going to. It's located on the left side of Vons and easy to miss if you're not looking for it. They have a live band starting 9pm and I enjoy the traditional Irish music they play. The atmosphere is dimly lit and it's super cozy. While they may have not the biggest beer selections in my opinion, but they do have Guinness and Smithwicks on tap which are done right. The Guinness is poured correctly as far as I can see and the cocktails are great and reasonably priced. What I like about this pub is that the people and the music puts you in a good mood and makes the whole place feel lively and fun. It's a great get away for me with absolutely fantastic entertainment. The staff is incredibly friendly and the security is welcoming as well. This place is not rowdy at all you will fit right in. The location is a bit random and I've probably passed this place a hundred times without realizing it, but it's a great place to get good, cheap alcohol. The Guinness is poured correctly, the music is a vibe, and they have a live band weekly that is definitely a lot of fun. It can get rowdy, so if that's not your scene, maybe just grab one drink. As an Irishman from Boston, I have to say I enjoyed this little pub on the outskirts of San Diego. My Great - great uncle used to be a regular here before he retired out of state, and he is still represented on the wall, which I just love as he was a very well decorated World War II veteran. I think that's the thing that reminds me most of the Irish pubs, they're connection to the past. Clearly they have a commitment to music, and playing plenty of the Irish classics that I grew up with. My friends and I came in on Saturday and there was no bouncer outside so we just walked in. When we went up to the bar the bartender acted so incredulous that we walked in and acted like it was our fault? We gave him our IDs and he checked it and acted very annoyed we were there and that we wanted to order a drink. I ordered a drink and wanted to close out my tab and he was being very aggressive asking if I was sure I was not going to get another drink. It was not busy at all and I know it's a pain to close out a tab and would be annoying if I decided to get another but the bartender was being excessively rude given the situation. I got the vibe he did not want us there to begin with, maybe because we were younger than a majority of people there but who cares!? We weren't being rude or obnoxious but were met with animosity the second we stepped in. I think the bartender was the owner too which is unfortunate. When I was a lonely 26 year old temporarily living at home with my mom in Clairemont, I would frequent this place a lot, and I would go by myself. This place is really small but feels like home. I could walk in with my pajamas on and no one would notice. I met a few interesting people there and ended up eventually taking a lot of my first casual dates there. It's really chill and mellow. You have your 80 year old's who can drink you under the table. You also have your punk rocker kids and occasionally the hot girl and guy. I loved to play cricket with drunk people and watch them still beat me. Their complimentary chips are usually out, but their stiff, cheap drinks often make up for it. However, one time, I told the 'tender I was hungry and he found a bag in the back that he opened for me. Sweet. You will see one or two people who sits, hypnotized, playing those crazy bar computer games. It is so weird and kind of creeps me out. Rock Band nights are super fun, although some people steal the show...and I don't mean they are good; they are obsessed with playing over and over again. Just like the people on the computer. It's all good though; you can get your turn by putting your name on a list and choosing the song you want. If you're super uptight or particular, you will probably hate this place. If you're cool and open to a variety of people: young and old, different and conventional, then you will thoroughly enjoy the Blarney Stone. read more

Here we are at a neighborhood Irish pub with a local feel on New Year's Eve in Clairemont. Friendly bartender, and a lot of customers seem to know each other. Sipping gin and tonic and waiting for The Barmen to play music. These are real folks here, and nobody is putting on airs. A mix of age groups tonight on New Year's Eve. I feel safe and friendly in here. You may see Hagrid from Harry Potter's world out front, but don't judge this place by the parking lot. Plenty of parking here by the way. From the guy with the Mohawk to the guy with long hair, they all seem friendly to me, cool peops. $5 cover charge tonight but it's New Year's Eve and there will be music soon. We happened upon this sweet pub that is around the corner from us on a *quiet* Tuesday evening and it ended up being a lively and traditional night of irish music ( fantastic live band!) and humorously memorable Gaelic music and great ( -ly priced!) beer. Came on a Friday night for a drink and got turned away because some fool in a John Deer hat, who worked there, was gettin handsy with a young lady. He told us they were closing. My other friends arrived five minutes later and walked right through and were served without a problem. If you want a better place to drink in Clairemont, check out the Balboa taproom. First of all it smells like piss in here. The smell is SO bad, it's nauseating. And second of all, the bartender was a major bitch. I wanna say her name was Molly. Frumpy, white girl with the small choppy looking pony tail. She was wearing a "bazinga" shirt and my friend complimented it and she just stared at us blankly. Ordered our drinks, then my friend asks her if they have a soccer team and she says no. And my friend says "oh weird I could have sworn you guys had one. Maybe it was just some of your regulars or something that I saw the last time I was here." She said "we don't have one" flatly. And then leaned into another patron and said "im pretty sure I said that the first time" My friend and I are both bartenders and we were pretty appalled at way she treated us. My parents owned 2 neighborhood dive bars growing up so after 2 yrs of living in Clairemont my husband & I were very curious to check out The Blarney Stone Pub. We decided to check out the Blarney Stone Pub on foot on a Tuesday night. It was a 10 min walk from our house & was well worth it. First impression, it had a non pretentious neighborhood Cheers vibe. It is small, but that's part of the charm. The bartender was very friendly & the prices were reasonable. I would totally recommend this bar if you want a laid back neighbor bar with great drink prices. We will definitely be back! read more
