I had an absolutely terrible experience here with my friend. We chose the drive thru, which is a double lane disaster. The customer in the left lane accidentally turned to the window where my order was at as they were leaving. No problem, simple fix right? Just back up and leave? He waived to me and I flagged him on to proceed. Then the employee and the window started cussing "why can't people just f****** get this right it's mother ****ing not that hard Damn people are so stupid." So I pull up the the window and I was less than pleased to see this woman who laughed in my face rudely....then couldn't even finish cashing me out she had to grab someone else to come get my money etc...so I could not catch the employees name. Why the long lines ? This place is so overated, food sucks nasty taste, way to greasy. Pulled pork looked like they opened a can of cat food and plopped it on an bun. Onions rings have no taste. First time there tonight. Food is super cheap. I fed a family of three for under $20 and we had milkshakes which add a few bucks to the combo. All the food was good. We'll definitely go back. The chocolate shake was crazy good. My co-workers say the burgers rival Five Guys but I'm not sure I'd go that far. Don't get me wrong they were still good. I guess next time I'll try one of the regular burgers (not the one with $5 combo) then pass my judgment. :-) read more

The one star is for this Cook Out location in particular. We love Cook Out in general- not gourmet food by any means but it's pretty good and you can't beat the price. My problem is with the staff. Incompetent does not begin to cover it. Horribly rude kids, and every single time we go- EVERY TIME- our order is wrong. Not just incorrect but also complete meals left out! And if you go in to talk to a manager- forget it. You quickly realize why the idiot children taking your orders suck at their jobs- the manager is clueless. Hubby and I tried cook out for the first time and loved it! Drive-thru was packed, but they still were able to take our order and get our food quickly. You definitely can't beat the price. So much food in the combo plus a milkshake for a little over 6 bucks! Definitely need to try the shakes if coming here. Will be coming back! read more

Quick, kid-friendly, budget friendly, & tasty! We had heard a lot about this restaurant and were happy upon it's completion that though it was still a fast food restaurant, it was good tasting, and an over all enjoyable experience. How you all are able to maintain any sort of function beyond breathing is beyond me. The lady (term used loosely) with the purple hair working the cash register this evening was possibly the rudest person I have ever dealt with. On top of seeming not to understand that a milkshake would only be frozen if it was just purchased, she felt the need to roll her eyes and sigh at me. That was enough to make me write this review. But wait there's more! Once my new best friend snatched the milkshake from my hand and rolled her eyes at me, she went to the back to fix the mess up that was apparently my fault. She returned with my newly made milkshake and shoved it into my hand with no words. No thank you, no sorry for the mistake, no kiss my butt, nothing. The best part?!?! The milkshake was still wrong! I've been to Cook Out by my daughter's request twice in times past, and the experience otherwise was good. However, last night Feb 24, 2014 at approx 10:43pm, again at my daughter's request, I stop by there to place her cheeseburger basket, with hush-puppies order. From the time I drove up to the intercom and began to place my order, to exiting the store after speaking with the "manager," was one extraordinary and frustrating experience. Again the time was 10:43pm (by my receipt), the young lady speaking through the intercom and taking my order was extremely hasty with seemingly zero patience. As she pressed the button to amplify her voice and responded, loudly outbursts of laughter and giggles could be heard, with a combination of long pauses in between each response. In spite of my trying to carry on with my order and because of the continuous distractions heard in our back-and-fourth responding, with little to no effort, I asked "Where did they find you?" I meant it rhetorically, as I drove off to the window not willing to hear or bear anymore of the disrespect. Now at the window and face to face with Arnesha, the cashier. I asked her who was that girl on the drivethru phones? She responded, the girl who just stepped away from me. Which I did see her eye to eye as she parted to get back to her station. I then, asked Arnesha was there a manager on shift? She stated yes and immediately parted to, I believe, go get him. However, I pulled my car to the front and parked and made my way inside. Immediately I asked to speak the the manager, and so, there he was there already in the midst of his crew. As he faced off with me and immediately extended his right hand, and I begin to explain, he begin to apologize for his staff's ill performance and begin chanting he would talk to her about the rudeness. Fine right? Not! Because the whole entire time we, manager and I, was face to face right at the front counter, his entire crew were comfortably, arm against arm, standing by on each of his sides. They were just as focus to the words that I was saying as the manager was. If not even more. additionally, still, as the stood there, they still clearly had smiles and smirks on their faces - Absolutely unbelievable experience! Clearly this manager, Doug, if not mistaken, was not managing his staff at all! There was absolutely zero sense of respect shone toward him in his role. It was now very clear to me why my experience had been so awful with no sense of recourse; "Cook Out" was without a manager last night but rather they were in company with an appearent friend, however, entrusted to manage accordingly, but rather failed miserably. As a result, Cook Out in Chesapeake, as long as Doug is there, has lost me as a customer. For it is the "customer" which makes the business and not the other way around. read more

Updated to 2 stars because I was down in Durham recently and the quality of the food wasn't the same as I remembered when I lived there a couple years ago ... Perhaps I judged took harshly? Perhaps the chain has made some overall changes because the fries aren't steak fries anymore like they used to be in NC. The building was nice. Master that, it was downhill. My son ordered a BLT. A skimpy small L, a small T, And a very generous 1 piece of B. My wife ordered double fries, as I only ordered a single fry. Remarkably enough, we got the same amount. Small portions, except for the Shakes, which were just ice cream. My eyeball would have popped out if I would have tried to suck this out of a straw. I absolutely love that Cookout is five minutes from my house. It's been opened for only a couple weeks and I've made at least five trips. The restaurant is always pack, but the staff manages to move the line and drive thru fairly quickly. The staff is friendly, but I do recommend checking your order before leaving. I've had problems with two of my orders, although nothing major. read more

I stopped by at lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. This was my first visit to a Cook out and I enjoyed it. Had a single burger, fries and sweet tea for $7. Our go to place whenever we can't decide what to eat during lunch break. Their burgers are okay. The chargrilled chicken sandwich is better. I eat it so much that I'm somewhat immune the taste already, sadly. I love their hush puppies, too..taste better than most places around here. The fries are always fresh and yummy. There's something about the quesadilla that's so addicting. I always get it as one of the sides. I like that there's a lot of side options. Also their milkshakes are Bomb. Good fast service. I've had just about everything on the menu. Not the healthiest food, but has good flavor when your in a hurry.

I've only ever eaten at a cook out while on road trips. Usually the cook out in NC on 95 exit 97. Always good for drive thru type food. So I thought I'd try it locally. Certainly not the same! It was terrible! Amazing how different it is. Food was old and cold, not at all fresh as expected. I set an expectation based on past experience at another store and was disappointed. My bad I guess. Granted it's fast food but the Hardee's big bag lunch was better and fresher than what I got last night. And that's not saying much. I would expect better from Cook Out. read more

I love this place and am so upset that there are none in Maryland where I live. First of all, the fact that you can get things like chicken nuggets, corndogs, and quesadillas as side options to some pretty decent barbecue is awesome. Second, they have like 40 millshake flavors, and they are a good size and pretty thick. And you can get the barbecue with 2 sides and a millshake for about $6. I used to hit this place on Fridays sometimes on my way to he bank. OK, here's the deal. When I would go here, I would usually order five hot dogs. Yes I said FIVE. This is because the dogs are super super small(though reasonably priced). Well they had this chick who worked the register on Friday who would comment sarcasticly about the amount of food I was ordering. The second time this happened I called her on it and she said "sorry" or something like that. Well, the next time I went in there she did it again, so I never spent any more of my money there. Hard to believe we actually have fools like this waiting on customers. I did notice however that most of their customers are millenials, so maybe their standards for courtesy & manners are lower than mine. read more
