I've experienced Cook Out in Murfreesboro, TN and it's definitely a good place to put by a university. It's cheap food and you get a lot for the money. It's nothing spectacular about the food and I don't do milkshakes (lactose intolerant) but I hear those are the highlight of this place lol. Had the $4.99 dinner plate special, ordered Cajun chicken. The chicken sandwich was tasty and appropriately sized, but the two sides I ordered were paltry: tiny cup of bland cole slaw and only four small onion rings! A friend ordered a wrap for a side and it was almost the size of a sandwich, so that would have been a better choice. I also just got the soda included (all ice!) but I hear that the shakes are awesome. I'd definitely go back but certainly change my side orders for more food and a better value! read more

I got a cheeseburger, onion rings and a corn dog. The burger was just beef. No seasoning, nothing special and the onion rings you can get at the grocery store and be just as good if not better. It's an ok value for the amount of food but nothing to write home about. read more

Why is the customer service so bad here? The food is good but those kids behind the counter suck big time. It makes me not want to go here bc the human interaction is awful. Originally asked for an unsweet tea she miss understood me as sweet tea which is fine it happens all the time. So when I get to the window I'm like oh hey this is sweet tea and I wanted unsweet so the girl in the window was like okay lemme get an unsweet tea for you. She then turns to some other girl and asks for a different tea to which the second girl responded no I asked her what tea she wanted and this is it and I ended up with a sweet tea. Can I just say what the heck. Miscommunication happens all the time and it was just a tea. Why couldn't you switch it out? What is wrong with your customer service and just basic human decency? Great opening time for the store. The lines were a mile long, both in the store and drive through. The staff moved the line pretty quickly and served the food just as quickly. The burger was like a slug burger. The grilled cheese was decent for the $4.99 price. My only complaint was them not having a fountain drink machine outside in the eating area. read more

Started off promising but has quickly fallen. Okay first rule of business, don't let your staff wear actual bonnets to work. Not hair nets, real live night bonnets. Besides the long lines, Im so glad Memphis finally got a Cook Out. They'll definitely need another location in the east Memphis and Cordova area though because as of now, people are coming from all over and the traffic around the university area is even worse now. I just had the best cost/quality hamburger combo meal I have ever had at establishments east of the Mississippi River. Cook Out's hamburger combos are reasonably priced at $4.99 for the combo I ordered. I ordered the double burger with bacon, cheese, tomato and grilled onions and found the quality every bit as good as the nationally ranked In & Out Burger's animal style hamburger combo. My wife had the chicken sandwich combo with tomato and she said it was great also. In & Out Burger's grilled onions are a little bit more flavorful that Cook Out's, so I would like to urge Cook Out to work a bit on that. Otherwise...an A+ burger. Besides the Cook Out Burger comes with two sides, instead of just one at In & Out Burger. read more

Good Food, but I was treated poorly as a customer. I've from NC and have been a fan of Cook Out for a long time, so I'm excited they are now in Memphis. However, today (1-13-2016) one of its employees refused to assist me after I had been waiting for 10+ minutes to pick up my order at the counter. I was watching customer after customer who ordered AFTER me get their food, so when I approached this worker and gave her my order number, she simply said she's waiting for the food. I did this twice more, and twice more I was told the same thing. When I asked her why others were getting their orders, she got visibly angry and said she can't do anything about it. I even saw my the milkshake I ordered (with my order # on it) sitting on the counter behind her. I asked if I could at least have that, and she just ignored me. So I got in line and waited my turn for a cashier, gave her my ticket, and she then went back to the kitchen. She came back immediately and said my order ticket didn't print and thus they never cooked my food. Less than two minutes after that they had my food ready. I said thank you to the cashier for actually helping me, at which point the order caller (the person initially asked for help) scoffed and then loudly said "you were coming at me the wrong way"--whatever that means. I hope this was a one time occurrence, but for the time being my interest in Cook Out has been greatly soured. read more

Last night I went out for an after midnight snack and wanted to try this new Cook-Out restaurant that just opened and was still open after 2pm. The line backed way far into the street at Highland. At 2pm they were THAT busy. Didn't want to wait in line, went to McDonalds where there was no line and they messed up my order and made me wait a long time to redo it and it was cold when I did get it and the girl's excuse for the bad service was because there wasn't enough people. Just now went and tried Cook Out. Had to wait in line that was backed into the street like last night but it moved along faster than McDonald's line did last night when they had NO other customers. The people were friendly and efficient. I ordered a bbq sandwich plate with fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and a slice of cheesecake and paid less than $7. Couldn't even finish it. I ate a few fries and didn't even make it to the coleslaw I was so full. I even had meat left over to give to the cats because there was so much that fell out of the giant sandwhich. Also it actually tasted delicious and everything that was supposed to be hot was hot and the stuff supposed to be cold was cold. I think I just went through a portal from the twilight zone or I just died and went to heaven. This can't be real. Really happy you are here. All the other fast food restaurants around you have been seriously slacking and they are actually more expensive for less and lower quality food. I live right down the street. Even though they be packed they get you in and out quickly I had the burger combo the burger was cooked to perfection. Juciey the fries was great and the hush puppies was very good. The only draw back is you have to park somewhere else if you are dinning in because the drive tru traffic has the street blocked. read more
