It is my first time to Morehead, Kentucky. Absolutely beautiful place! My son said I "needed" to try Cook Out before I left. I must tell you, there is massive hype surrounding this drive-thru only restaurant. For the college kid on a budget I totally get it. However, I was not totally on board as we rolled to a stop at one of the two drive thru lanes. It was pretty hard for me to hear and understand the person on the intercom. They have Mr Pibb but not Dr Pepper. Let me say here that Mr Pibb was a drink whose recipe was surely invented by the Soviets during the Cold War in order to create chaos an unrest in the US. I just got a coke. I ordered a "tray", with a double burger on the advice of my more worldly, athlete son. He went the distance and ordered the same, but in a special way ( I think it might have been "cookout style"?). Anyway, it came with chili and slaw... on the burger. Again, under his advisement , I ordered the hush puppies as a side, and I saw they had Cajun Fries, so I thought I would try them. My one regret is that I did not try one of the 45 shakes on the menu. I was not super hungry and I just couldn't justify buying one. The food was ready, fresh, and hot in a matter of about three minutes! A friendly efficient young lady passed it through the window to us and took our payment. I was pretty impressed at their operation as far as that went. My son's order was correct but I think they might've given me a junior burger or something? It turned out it was fine because there was quite a bit of food there. Hush puppies were in fact pretty good. The "Cajun Fries" were just crinkle cut fries with some kind of spicy, salty powder sprinkled on them after they put the fries in the styrofoam container. The tiny burger was tasty, and the burgers taste like they are flame broiled. Pretty good! Overall, the food was pretty good. My experience would've been a lot better if the intercom and order taker had been little bit better, so keep that in mind if you go here. The drive-through only business is not for me, but for college kids and people who just want to get something to eat on the way home I think it's fine. I can't recommend the shakes because I didn't try one but they all sounded really good. read more

One of my local (Morehead) favorites, especially in the summer. The food truly reminds me of summer time backyard cookouts (something that sadly has become more of my past than my present). I love ending summer days with a hamburger and hotdog (don't judge me). It is a great away to add a little "summer" to winter days. A "cookout" for dinner when the temps are cold is a great way to break the winter doldrums. read more

The milkshakes taste good but could be blended a bit more to pass through the straw. Sadly, the Cajun fries were so so salty I couldn't eat them even with ketchup :( I never waste food, but these were truly inedible. read more

Best fast food we've had in a long time! The BBQ platter was delicious. My husband really liked his Double Cheeseburger too. Customer service was great, too. I wanted a bottled water but they had run out so they gave me a huge cup of water with that yummy crushed ice for free! So nice! And dinner for $13?! Yes, please!! After my several requests to place my order "fresh off the grill, the Double Hamburger turned out like eating tasteless grilled cardboard. The patties were stale, hard as a rock, and cold, and pitifully emaciated and paper thin. The hot dogs looked like tiny, thin, shriveled up brown fingers with sores on them. Cookout charges the customer for every single condiment on the hamburgers and hotdogs. The diet coke tasted like diluted water with no taste whatsoever. I have not been that egregiously disappointed in a long, long time. It was embarrassing. I would never eat there again. The server had to turn away and ask his co-workers for instructions each time I attempted to place an order. Customers, BEWARE ! I caution you NOT to eat at COOKOUT. EVER ! read more

This is a late night get your munch in kind of place. parking is easy and convenient as they have there own lot. Price is Super SUPER CHEAP I got a cheddar style burger(grilled onions, cheese sauce, mayo and bacon) you get to pick two sides one of the choices I picked fries( salted well but overall, just ok) and A FREAKING CORNDOG!!!! They let me have a corndog for a side. LET THAT SINK INTO YOUR SOUL, AS IT REACHES DOWN DEEP TO IGNITE THE FLAME OF CHILDHOOD AND DELIVER YOU FROM THE WOES OF THIS WORLD!!! Apart from the glorious tasting CORNDOG the Burger was well seasoned. To sum this up it's a must stop but it is more of a food truck style stop then fine dining and I'm ok with that as all of that only cost me $6.36! Also word of warning tell them to ease up on the onions unless you like a half of an onion on one burger(see photos) read more

The thing about this Cookout location is it's lack of consistency! They never put cajun seasoning on my cajun fries when I order them. The price is always different even though I order the same thing every time I go. Honestly I'm over this place now. Best burger in town...and it isn't even close! There are several fast food options, a couple of fast casual options and candidly the burgers at cookout are the best in the area. I've been through the drive through restaurant a few times and the only time I had a problem with my order was the first time. They fixed it and since then...consistently hit, made to order, goodness! I won't use this space to share about any other establishment in town that serves burgers but, I will say they could ALL learn a couple things by observing how this group operates. read more

Cook-Out is a gem of a restaurant in particular. Really, anywhere I can get two sides with my combo and only spend ~$5.00 is quite factually dope. Also the big double burgers are $0.99. That's $0.99 for a burger suspiciously similar to what your uncle Rick pops out at every reunion. And you wondered where he disappears off to. read more

Being a religious person myself, I do enjoy the Biblical scriptures on most of their products. The double drive-thru is neat and much better than those at restaurants such as McDonalds. I simply got a hot dog, but it was well worth it; worth it being only a dollar! The hot dog had a "cook out" taste like it was made on a grill. For summer time foods for a low price, I would recommend this restaurant. Great for college students on a budget too! read more

They always seem to screw up my order or they will give me like four fries. Place is a joke. Like this one time they gave my order to someone else and then they told me after 30 minutes of waiting they are out of what I ordered. The manager or whoever didn't know what she was doing. read more
