Meh. I've always been told to try a CookOut and this was not all it was hyped up to be. Husband and I got burgers--they were dry and just ok. Ordered Cajun fries--got normal French fries. My husband ordered cheese bites and literally got 3. Daughter got chicken tenders with bbq and they forgot the sauce. The inside was closed temporarily and we had to eat at picnic tables outside in near 100 temp--just not a great experience overall. read more

Oddly enough, this fast food chain had amazing food for a really inexpensive price. First time we ever tried one. Burgers were hot and greasy and delicious. Spicy chicken was tasty and full of quality chicken. Onion rings excellent. Fries were good. Cheese bites were awesome. Tried cheerwine soda. If I drank soda when not on vacation, I'd be hooked. Wish they had it up north. The cashier who took our orders was very patient and nice. Explained how the trays work--pick your sandwich, then you get to pick two sides, and a drink. I have to say I was really surprised by this place. Driving to the beach saw sole signs and didn't think much about it. When my daughter said she wanted a burger I looked and came across this. I will keep this short and sweet. One of the best priced but good fast food places I've been to in a while. The tray deal was more food then expected but tasted really good . 3 full meals and drinks for $19.... sign me up! The overall options were pretty good. I liked that we could choose things that were not even similar or even fit as an option. The quesadilla was really a unique items to be chosen. Last thing... fountain Cheerwine soda. Cook Out is the best combination of taste and value. We ordered just about everything you could imagine off the menu and enjoyed it for the fast food that it is. To be able to get 4 meals with milkshakes (excellent milkshakes) is unheard of at your other options. If you have a young child, it is valuable that chicken nuggets and corn dogs are considered sides and each tray comes with two sides. The line was long, as we were in Myrtle during the high point of summer for a baseball tournament. However, they moved us through quickly. Four stars is the best I can do for any fast food, but if I had a Cook Out in my hometown, the major competitors wouldn't see me anymore. read more

Okay In-N-Out Burgers in the US West, Shake Shack Burgers out East, down South what's the big deal? Cook Out Burgers baby! Heard great things about this Southern American chain and decided to try it out in the tourist trap of Myrtle Beach and boy was that a great call! All I can is three words.. "COOK OUT TRAY!". You get a choice of a main which includes a burger, hot dogs, chicken fingers, etc... You then choose not one but TWO sides which not only includes fries, and onion rings, etc...but choices like chicken/beef quesadillas, bacon or chicken wraps, chili or even a corn dog!! WTF!!! Did I die and go to fast food heaven?? Also you get a drink with that...pop, ice tea or even a coke float! All for $5 USD plus tax!!! Oh wait there's more! (Now I sound like a late night infomercial!!) For $1 more you can change your drink to a milk shake....not just a regular milkshake but one of 40+ flavours! Oreo, Pineapple Banana, Reese's Cups, even watermelon! Real chunks of fruit and chocolate people! The shakes are a real standout and takes up half the menu. The burgers here are charbroiled and not flat topped like the other US chains so some might prefer the other chain's burgers. They do this though to mimic a home style backyard slightly burnt taste and are served plain but you can add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, etc... for just a little bit more. How the heck do these guys make any money? My family of six stuffed ourselves for $42 USD! Seriously I can see why this is the big burger place in the South. The employee taking our order at the drive thru was very nice. However, we emphasized cheese sauce and BBQ about 4 times and they didn't give it to us. Second time trying cookout first experience was amazing delicious food. This time my son and I got food poisoning it's currently two weeks and we're still vomiting and our stomach has been upset. Visiting Myrtle Beach, I had never seen one of these places before. It looked different and for some reason I wanted to try it before I left - so I did. I was warned by my son not to expect too much.
