I haven't lived a long life yet but in my time, absolutely the best burger and fries I've ever had hands down. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with the bibb lettuce, marinated tomato, and cook sauce (ketchup and mayo) on top with brioche buns that have seeds on them. I ordered a small fry for $7 and got a huge bowl full with a sauce I didn't even know, but God it was fantastic. I never want to eat another burger for the rest of my life it was so great, any other burger will utterly fail to impress or satisfy me. Not to mention the restaurant itself, I loved the disco ball that hung from the ceiling and the vibe like it's old school. Almost like the burger joints of the 1950s had a baby with a "millennial bro" burger place but in a best of way, not in any bad way. Service wasn't the best and was slow for the few people that were in the restaurant as we were. Certainly wasn't packed and I understand the way they make their food takes long but for awhile it was getting restless waiting for my fries to come out after they handed me my burger. I've come here twice. The atmosphere is interesting. It gives us the vibes of a diner but doesn't look much like one? First time service was great. Waitress was awesome, food came quickly. The food was a bit dry though. I had gotten the classic burger and some truffle garlic fries. Second visit (last Sunday) was a bit different. Waitress didn't frequent us very often. Took about 15ish minutes to get our orders taken. Food still came out quite quickly for how many people we had in our party. This time I got a different burger and liked it a lot more. It was still pretty dry. I got the morning after one this time. Same fries, still kinda dry under the garlic and cheese on top. Not spread along all the fries very well. A small complaint to add is my plate was chipped. Shown in the third picture. The service, food and atmosphere here is great. They servers are friendly and quick, always making sure your water is topped off and that you have everything you want. As a person who loves malt vinegar, they're quick to bring it out when requested. The VA moonshine lemonade was strong, sweet and tart. It helped cut through the fry and burger flavors. The patty melt was good, though greasy and the brisket burger was rich. Both were cooked very well. The fries are also very good. The sauce that comes with them is reminiscent to Chick-fil-a sauce, which others liked, but I opted for the malt vinegar, which worked better in my opinion. They're cooked in tallow, which gives them a more complex flavor than other fries. The pub cheese was also good. The pretzel topping was odd but the sweet pepper relish was a delicious addition. We wished the pretzels came on the side like the crackers and wished that there were more crackers. This place was really good. We came in after a long day outdoors and built a hankering for a burger. It's a little retro, which I love. Booths, tables and stools at the bar with good vibes going. We had the Mushroom & Swiss and the Classic Bacon & Cheddar burgers, Farmer's Fries, Fried Pickles and a chocolate Chilly Whippit (not pictured). The food here is EXCELLENT!! My burger was fresh, juicy and had that charred flavor I love. The fries were amazing as well!! Place looked clean and the people were friendly. My only minor complaint is that no one greeted us for about 10 minutes. I almost left, but glad I didn't. To their credit, they were pretty busy, still, passing by without at least saying "we will be with you shortly" ... at least something. I would score this place at a 4 1/2 star if I could. We're fans of the 1st location. Came to the Richmond rd location, there were several waitstaff hunkered around the register, 1 server was sitting at the bar. It took several minutes for anyone to come and seat us. After being seated, we waited 15 mins with no server coming...no water, no "someone will be with you in a few minutes", meanwhile one hostess continuing to seat multiple tables. 10 minutes in, 2 servers were seated at the bar chatting it up with the bartender, and the group chat around the register continued. We left. No one seemed to notice. There were at least 7 servers in that place and only 4 tables seated when we arrived. When we left the place was nearly full. Hospitality was terrible. We will stick with the original location, where you may have to wait a bit to get seated but you're never ignored. read more

Cook's is a busy place found on the supposed "quieter" end of Richmond Road. Based on our experience at the restaurant on this Christmas season Saturday, lots of folks looking for good burgers (and more), have made a tasty discovery. We arrived to a very busy restaurant but the "next party waiting" system was well organized throughout our visit. Tables were clean, utensils and condiments were in place...all signs of a well- organized restaurant. With a maximum occupancy of 98 persons, good organization is definitely "a good thing." Williamsburg has more than its share of restaurants that disappoint diners at 50% occupancy...this isn't one of them. FYI re: the menu pricing..."sides" are not included in the price of the burger entrees. Fries and even small- portioned sauces are extra so, for example, the tab for the Build Your Own burger can climb in a hurry. Our food (see photos) arrived quickly and at the temperature ordered. Server (Izzy) checked on us a number of times during our visit and she was extra helpful as our table included 2 small children. Bottom line? I'm recommending Cook's to fellow Yelpers and friends. I'm going to keep this quite simple: this is the best burger I've ever had, without a doubt the best in Virginia, and I'd be willing to put it up there with any burger across the world. ITS THAT GOOD. The servers are always incredibly friendly, but it's always really busy so if you need something else, don't be afraid to flag someone down and ask. I raved about this place to my friend and she really wanted to dine here so my hubby and I came here for the second time. I ordered the same brisket burger, hubby ordered the same but doubled it, and my friend ordered the one with bacon. She also ordered classic fries to which she added more salt. Hubby and I shared the brussel sprouts which were so delicious. We studied the ice cream shakes as there were so many choices as to how to combo each one. She ordered the Strawberry one while I was sinful in my indulgence of the malted one with heath candy bits, whipped cream and caramel. We both felt as if we were transported back to an ole time soda fountain. Highly recommend them! Although our server said he would be replaced by another person, he did stay, as our meals were served promptly especially when the place was packed with happy customers. Catfish was not good...breading was hard and not much fish! Tartar sauce had no flavor and French fries were terrible!!!

The service was awful. Waited a long time to take our order, never returned once to ask if we needed anything. Had to ask another waitress for silverware. Once finished had to wait 20+ minutes before getting attention to get a check. The food was okay but the glass ware was dirty and service so poor we would never come back. My wife and I ate at Cook's Burger Bar in Williamsburg today. Our first impression was very good as the restaurant reminded us of an old fashioned diner inside and our waitress, Brandie was very friendly. They also have a large, covered outdoor seating area. Our burgers were excellent and I would highly recommend the Farmer's Fries (shredded Parmesan cheese and garlic on the fries) but beware one order can feed 3 to 4 people. Yesterday we went to this Cook's Burger bar. The three stars we are giving is because the restaurant is very clean. Very neat kind of unique decor. The staff was very friendly. Service was good As far as missing the other two stars it was because of the food first of all their french fries totally limp no crispy fries at all ...nothing like holding up a french fry and it falls over so that was a big disappointment the burgers well I was grateful that we had caramelized onions and mushrooms and that sounds fine but the burger itself was tasteless. It's like there was a salt pepper and no seasoning in it. That's why this restaurant only gets three stars. And because of those reasons, I doubt we'll be back There are enough burger, places around with much better tasting burgers then Cooks burgers. read more

We went out to Cook's Burger Bar for a soft opening. We had made reservation ahead of time because they only had 100 openings, but they were taking some people because not everyone showed up. I ordered a patty melt with mushrooms and a side of fries. My husband ordered a mushroom Swiss burger with roasted vegetables. Both of our sandwiches were delicious! I love how they ask if we want them pink or no pink. We both prefer pink and that's what we got. The french fries were delicious. The roasted vegetables were OK, but my husband would probably order fries next time. The young man who waited on us was a novice, but he was trying his very best and had people from the restaurant to back him up. Several people came to our table to ask us what we thought of the food and the restaurant-everybody was extremely friendly and helpful. We tried one of their soft whipped desserts. It was filled with toffee candy bits, and caramel and chocolate sauce. Very tasty! We would highly recommend the restaurant and we wish them well in this new location! read more
