We were escorted in and quickly noticed that this was more than a speakeasy-it was a full restaurant. We stopped in for drinks, but it was nice to have tapas. I got the popcorn with the Tequilla lime butter, which was the perfect balance of salt. I had a mezcal drink which was perfect! I'm such a fan of mezcal and am excited when I see it on the menu. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. It would have been understandable for them to limit the trips to check on us, but they persevered and made us feel welcome. After a few minutes lookimg over the menu, we were ready to order. I selected the Pork Belly Cuban sandwich which came with their homemade chips. It was a really good lunch. Both the pork belly and sliced ham were cooked very well and plenty. I forgot what sauce they included (I believe it was chimichurri) really elevated the flavor in my opinion. And there was enough chips as a side which were crunchy and full. Sophia ordered a chili dog which she enjoyed. 1631 had us full for lunch. We'll be sure to stop by the next time we're in town. They even wrote me an apology note (again NOT their fault at all it was delicious). I have been there twice this week and both times the food tasted fresh and amazing and it was genuinely the sweetest nicest interaction I have had to date at a restaurant ever and I'll absolutely be coming back.
