This place was really good. We came in after a long day outdoors and built a hankering for a burger. It's a little retro, which I love. Booths, tables and stools at the bar with good vibes going. We had the Mushroom & Swiss and the Classic Bacon & Cheddar burgers, Farmer's Fries, Fried Pickles and a chocolate Chilly Whippit (not pictured). Everything was really good, and we look.forward to returning and trying more things. Our waiter Samuel was VERY nice, knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. Great attitude and really made the experience even better, considering how tired we were. We'll be back.

The service, food and atmosphere here is great. They servers are friendly and quick, always making sure your water is topped off and that you have everything you want. As a person who loves malt vinegar, they're quick to bring it out when requested. The VA moonshine lemonade was strong, sweet and tart. It helped cut through the fry and burger flavors. The patty melt was good, though greasy and the brisket burger was rich. Both were cooked very well. The fries are also very good. The sauce that comes with them is reminiscent to Chick-fil-a sauce, which others liked, but I opted for the malt vinegar, which worked better in my opinion. They're cooked in tallow, which gives them a more complex flavor than other fries. The pub cheese was also good. The pretzel topping was odd but the sweet pepper relish was a delicious addition. We wished the pretzels came on the side like the crackers and wished that there were more crackers. It can get a little loud, but that's expected for a place meant for hanging out, having a drink and enjoying good food.

    Bacon burger..... mouth watering good!

The food here is EXCELLENT!! My burger was fresh, juicy and had that charred flavor I love. The fries were amazing as well!! Place looked clean and the people were friendly. My only minor complaint is that no one greeted us for about 10 minutes. I almost left, but glad I didn't. To their credit, they were pretty busy, still, passing by without at least saying "we will be with you shortly" ... at least something. I would score this place at a 4 1/2 star if I could. I would definitely go back. My final thought; If you are looking for a fresh tasty burger, give this place a try. I do believe you will be satisfied!!

What do you love about burgers? Well Cooks has figured it out. It's an awesome basic burger, or their brisket burger, or the killer fries. Did I mention the hand crafted cocktails? Oh yes they have them and all the 80's OG beers as well. Didn't know you could still get a Hamms. I really dig the 80's bar theme, I can almost smell the cherry pipe tobacco. Without a doubt the service is top notch! The staff is super warm and eager to serve. If Michelin gave out stars for burger joints they would be a three star.

Still fantastic burgers! New treat - their shakes - ours were delicious and so thick! New specials coming soon as well, like unlimited wings and other bar snacks.

A busy place on Christmas weekend! Nice mix of families and "oldsters."

Cook's is a busy place found on the supposed "quieter" end of Richmond Road. Based on our experience at the restaurant on this Christmas season Saturday, lots of folks looking for good burgers (and more), have made a tasty discovery. We arrived to a very busy restaurant but the "next party waiting" system was well organized throughout our visit. Tables were clean, utensils and condiments were in place...all signs of a well- organized restaurant. With a maximum occupancy of 98 persons, good organization is definitely "a good thing." Williamsburg has more than its share of restaurants that disappoint diners at 50% occupancy...this isn't one of them. FYI re: the menu pricing..."sides" are not included in the price of the burger entrees. Fries and even small- portioned sauces are extra so, for example, the tab for the Build Your Own burger can climb in a hurry. Our food (see photos) arrived quickly and at the temperature ordered. Server (Izzy) checked on us a number of times during our visit and she was extra helpful as our table included 2 small children. Bottom line? I'm recommending Cook's to fellow Yelpers and friends. We'll be back to try other items on the menu as well as specials offered during the week.

My boys and I ate here on a recent stay to Great Wolf Lodge. It did not disappoint. Good quality burgers and good portions for them. Healthy roasted veggie sides for me and a bunless burger. Manager and staff were so nice too. Two thumbs up and you'll be happy you tried it.

I raved about this place to my friend and she really wanted to dine here so my hubby and I came here for the second time. I ordered the same brisket burger, hubby ordered the same but doubled it, and my friend ordered the one with bacon. She also ordered classic fries to which she added more salt. Hubby and I shared the brussel sprouts which were so delicious. We studied the ice cream shakes as there were so many choices as to how to combo each one. She ordered the Strawberry one while I was sinful in my indulgence of the malted one with heath candy bits, whipped cream and caramel. We both felt as if we were transported back to an ole time soda fountain. Highly recommend them! Although our server said he would be replaced by another person, he did stay, as our meals were served promptly especially when the place was packed with happy customers. All the booths were filled with smiling faces so we were seated at a clean table especially with the rapid turnover of customers. One of our favorite places to dine in!

Fries! So many I got these to go.

First of all, this place is super friendly! Second, the burgers are bangin' ! The fries are no joke. My husband says the Patty Melt was the best one he ever had! Very pleased with this entire encounter!

If we ever did come back (visiting from NC), it would be for that. Negative: the food just wasn't good. It was alright. The gravy wasn't what I was expecting- like thin and watery, which is just a personal preference but it tasted vinegary? . My burger taste wise was good and filling. Cheese was melted and yummy, I did not like the bun, again personal preference and all that. Had the Brussels sprouts for app, partner didn't like it, I believe it was the sauce again vinegary but I didn't mind them. It was a nice surprise. Partner also had chili hot dog which looked amazing ; also just tasted alright. Overall nothing to rave about.

We visited on a Friday evening, and the place was pretty dead although we got there around opening,…read moreso I figured that had something to do with it. We stayed for two drinks and the first bartender was pleasant and gave us recommendations and chatted with us. My second old fashioned was a bit overly sweet which I wasn't expecting after the first one being quite good but I didn't ask for it to be fixed so that's on me. The problem is that one of the other bartender/server came up to the bar and CLIPPED HIS NAILS while we were sitting there. I initially questioned what I was hearing as surely, no one in the food industry thinks this is okay?! Unfortunately....someone does. Due to the set up of the bar I have to assume it was being done into a sink? Trashcan? It didn't seem low enough while he was chatting with us to be a trashcan. Needless to say we did not end up ordering food and moved on quickly. I will not be back.

I loved the spot and loved the owner even more. I only drank while I was there, but watching how he interacted with customers was impressive, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely top‑notch hospitality all around. The cigar area is a fantastic touch too, though I couldn't partake this time. Still, it sealed the deal for me. Run, don't walk. This place is special.

A must stop in the downtown Richmond area!…read more It's truly a speakeasy with the door posing as a bookshelf. To get in, you must know the password or tell the host a joke that makes him laugh. We were escorted in and quickly noticed that this was more than a speakeasy-it was a full restaurant. We stopped in for drinks, but it was nice to have tapas. I got the popcorn with the Tequilla lime butter, which was the perfect balance of salt. I had a mezcal drink which was perfect! I'm such a fan of mezcal and am excited when I see it on the menu. Our waitress was a delight-super attentive and also a bartender so she was able to answer all of our drink questions. It was very spacious with outdoor seating. Definitely a 10/10 experience. I would definitely go again!

He asked for the password and we, unprepared, had to tell him a joke or an interesting fact. Luckily, my partner had one on hand. The atmosphere was lovely, very reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy, or at least what you'd imagine it to be like. Our server came by within a few minutes of us being seated. She lacked enthusiasm, unlike the host, unfortunately. Her service turned out to be lackluster as well. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the filet mignon with asparagus. For drinks, the Grape Gatsby and Maine root beer. The food, like our server, lacked appeal. The saving grace was the host and the atmosphere. The view was lovely and the intimacy of the setting was a welcome experience. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding, and it was tasty, though nothing special. The burned odor that we smelled prior to its arrival turned out to be the bread. I can recommend Grandstaff and Stein as an experience, but you should not expect much in the way of culinary delights or exemplary service. We probably won't be back, but if you've never been, it's worth trying at least once.

Soon after we. Ordered the octopus and mussel appetizers a storm came in and the rain fell pretty hard. Our choices were to run back to the hotel or stay and dine huddled under an umbrella. Being a little wet with beverages and good food seemed the better option so we ordered more food. The octopus was great. I have tried it prepared many ways and here it was both tender and flavorful, really done well. Shrimp cocktail is usually pretty basic, but often the simplest dishes demonstrate the most skill. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. It would have been understandable for them to limit the trips to check on us, but they persevered and made us feel welcome. If you are in the area, highly recommended stopping by, rain or shine, and sampling their menu. Nicely done.
