(March 2026) During our Historic Triangle visit, my wife and I stopped here for dinner. It was close to our hotel, and we didn't want to drive far. Holly was our server and she took good care of us. She had several recommendations from the menu. From that, I was sold on the wings, and got the 8-piece ($13.50) with garlic Parmesan sauce. My wife got the chicken quesadillas ($8.29). Everything was excellent, except the upcharge for using a credit card to pay. This was our first time at the Sportsman Grille. Four of us went specifically for burgers, and oh boy what a burger! In addition to an 8 oz. patty, the buns are soft, they don't overwhelm the burger, and they hold together. Love that! You can build your own burger or choose from their selections, which include blue cheese burger, a burger topped with North Carolina BBQ, the Bourbon one with an onion ring, bacon, and cheese, and a grilled cheese with a burger. Plus there are a few more. Quite the variety! They also come with a side. The burgers were good--not overly seasoned. The Tuesday night we went, the place was packed by 5 pm. They had two birthday parties happening. Service was really friendly and helpful, though a little slow, probably due to the number of customers. It took 30 minutes for our burgers to arrive. We were staying nearby and needed to get a quick bite with kids. We went in about 6pm on a Saturday and it was a 45 minute wait for 6 people. Not a terrible wait time, but they said we could sit in the bar if we found a seat. We were lucky enough to find a seat for 6 of us and it did not disappoint. We ordered happy hour drinks and the chicken quesadilla appetizer. It was really yummy. I ordered the southern salad with chicken and the batter on the chicken was awesome. The waiter was great and was quick with the fountain drinks and bar drinks. After eating I can see why the place was so crowded for dinner. I started with the cheese quesadilla, which was not completely horrible; it just lacked flavor. They were edible, but I had ordered the Salmon New Orleans along with a side of onion rings. Instead, I received a piece of salmon on a plate with French fries. Remember, I ordered onion rings! Additionally, I had five shrimp in a bowl on the side, but my first shrimp still had the shell and legs on it. I initially thought that was how they cooked them, but the rest of my shrimp had no legs and were likely just dirty shrimp. My wife ordered the seafood platter, and the presentation was terrible; instead of the onion rings she ordered, they brought her fries. Went back twice in the last two weeks and had the same great waiter.He was kind and efficient , and apologized when things were taking a bit longer than expected. Food was all good, club sandwich, Rueben, chicken tenders, and the all you can eat crab legs Friday nights. They did raise the price to $56 per person, but I know food costs are going up, so now you know. The one item that wasn't the best in my opinion is the potato skins we ordered. A little overcooked. Sportsman's is a local watering hole that sports lovers and families can go and both are welcome and comfortable. We went on a Saturday night to watch college football, eat wings, and have a few beers. When we arrived the hostess had a hard time figuring out where to sit us so we could see the specific game we were hoping to watch. Once that was resolved, we waited about 10 minutes for a server, which we realized was because said hostess didn't tell the server she had sat us. Luckily from there, things improved. Our server was extremely apologetic, quickly got us some beers and a menu, and made up for the oversight of the hostess. We ordered cheese sticks, which we forgot to take a pic of because we were hungry. They were a great size, covered in a delicious marinara, and gooey cheesy deliciousness. I had wings and my partner had a burger. The wings were massive! Great breading, flavorful sauces, and plenty of bleu cheese. The burger was ordered medium rare and cooked to temperature. The fries were crispy and not soggy. Overall a great dinner, with a good tv view. You might wait a little longer than you would if you were to go to a chain restaurant, but the food is so worth it. Our last outing was a Friday night for all you can eat crab legs. Our party of 6 ordered the legs. I was the one who didn't order them I tried the shrimp corn chowder. The broth was good but the shrimp seemed hardly cooked. I asked about the BBQ and was told it was very good. When presented, I discovered the bottom bun was totally soaked wet. Not appetizing. I was finished eating long before the others as they were still ordering more legs. Their orders came with hush puppies. No one was eating them so I grabbed one. They were charred beyond eating; hard as rocks. I mentioned all the above problems and dissatisfaction to our waitress who was a fabulous server. But I must admit she wasn't accurate describing the BBQ. There didn't seem to be much on the menu that interested me, hence the BBQ. So after my interview I went and within a minute Donnie the bartender turned it on for me. I enjoyed a great hot dog and fries and loved talking sports with the regulars in there. The food is great but the service is poor. This is the second time I've been here and had to walk away without being served. We waited over 10 minutes just to order our drinks, but it was done by another server. The hostess even came by shortly afterwards to take our drink order. Our server finally stopped by and said she will be a few minutes. Ten minutes after we got our drinks from the other server we had to walk away. Our server never came back. We liked dinner better but lunch was still good. The food: we got wings and they were excellent. They really know how to do wings. My family is from Buffalo so I know a good wing. We got naked Caribbean dry rub. Delicious!!!! Highly recommend. I got the special. The ribeye. It was 10 ounces so don't dream of Ruth Chris giant 32 oz steak. But was it lacked in size it made up for with flavor. We all tried each others meals and everything I had was excellent. Shrimp, the chicken wrap, fries, potato salad, you name it. For lunch I just got the burger. It was good. Not great. Next time I do lunch I might just get the wings. VERY IMPORTANT: KIDS EAT FREE. You just have to mention it. I'm not lying. Just mention it. I can't believe Sportsmans is getting low ratings! This was one of the best places to eat we've had will in Williamsburg. The waitress was funny, friendly and excellent at her job. The atmosphere was engaging (though the booth bench was not very comfortable), and the food was lovely. I ordered chicken wings expecting the typical, daintily tiny wings I'm used to at home, and was pleasantly surprised at the size of these wings. Crunchy with homemade dipping sauces, and enough for a serving meal, I totally enjoyed it. My husband had the Carolina burger. It was amazing! Bacon, pulled pork and hamburger with lots of pickled tomatoes and cheese...mmmmm! Or drinks were filled without us asking and a take away drink was provided with my left overs. Ordered extra crispy wings and a burger. All came out at once, Wrings were mediocre at best. Burger was though, bun was stale, fries were already cold. Did not send anything back because the server presented himself as one who would spit in your food. Once he picked up my plate it took another 25 minutes and me asking another server to get my check and test I timed it. I will not return and strongly do not recommend anyone eat here. read more

We got ours in what appeared to be a thick batter, not greasy, but flavorless. Fries were crispy and not greasy, but no seasoning. Very disappointed with our visit today. My wife and I ordered the Thursday night special Prime Rib cooked medium which we have done multiple times. Tonight mine came out medium and my wife's was extra well. She wasn't going to say anything but I convinced her. The waiter went to the lady manager and we could see them talking, he then came back and said there was nothing they could do. We paid for everything, boxed up the over cooked prime rib and fed it to our dogs when we got home. The problem is the manager wasn't professional enough to deliver the news herself and made the poor waiter. I have given this restaurant more than enough times (over a 6+ year time frame) to come to a clear and concise conclusion that they just don't care. I have been here with my cousins on several occasions, and they come almost daily. Each time I was highly disappointed, long, excessive waits, food over cooked and/or order incorrect. Today at my little cousin's party, everyone waited excessive amount of time, food was incorrect. My cheese sticks were not cooked completely, wings were overcooked and I had 8 drummies and 2 flats. I asked for breaded and fried; they brought back out naked. That is not the worst part. My order was $31.55 w/ tax and included gratuity. There were three different charges on my bank statement of $58.75, $85.60 and the original $26.85 before tip had fell off. How does this happen??? Sat at the bar side of the restaurant, it was dark inside, three big TVS for games in the bar section, if that's what you are looking for. I got the Ruben sandwich. C- It was, OK. The cheese pull, I will have to admit was pretty epic!! However, the corned beef was definitely refrigerated and warmed up to order. It wasn't tough, but it wasn't a melt in your mouth - fall apart - kind of meat. And the bread was so buttered, but couldn't taste the bread at all. I took three bites. My friend got the Birdie Chicken Salad B+ It was a little on the sweet side (I liked it) and the chutney was sweeter then average. It had a good taste and the flavors went well together, I would order this again. Onion Rings B+ They are breadcrumb type- and they don't fall apart when you bite into them!
