Don't waste your gas to drive here. I had lost my car keys and called Cooper Lake to see if they were able to make a new set of keys for my 2007 Mazda Miata. "Sure...no problem". AAA towed my car the next morning (Wednesday). Exactly one week later, Christopher called to inform me they can't figure out how to make the keys. WTH?? A week??? After researching car locksmiths, found Mandy Miller with THE LOCKSMITH CO 404-574-8556 and she was out the next day, had the key fob and two keys programmed that afternoon. 3 hours....vs a week. BUT.....gets better. The Star Award goes to the mechanic that left my window down during the wettest week of the year. Found 2" of water on my floorboard. Can you say LIVID!! Found none of Patrick's compassion when that happened. I have taken excellent care of this car for the last 19 years and hope for their sake problems don't occur down the road due to this neglect. Not only can these people NOT think out of the box, they could care less about the safety of your car when it's on their lot. I wouldn't recommend these people to fix a bicycle. I can't say enough good things about this shop! I ran over a screw on my way home from work and was scrambling to find a place close enough. They were only 30 minutes from closing, but were able and willing to help. When I got there, Patrick at the front desk was helpful and reassuring-- and as it turns out, the guy who ended up fixing my tire was also named Patrick! Both Patricks were amazing -- professional, quick, and so helpful. They had my tire repaired in less than 10 minutes with absolutely no issues and got me back on the road in no time. Then the rear end started squeaking took it back and the squeaking stopped for a while but it was still leaking. Got tired of taking it back. On my way there I use my rear windshield wiper. Cooper Lake says my rear windshield wiper doesn't work. To repair a brake light they charge almost $85. Give them an inch they will take a mile. I am appalled and disappointed with my experience at this shop, as a first-time customer. I dropped off my 2013 BMW 750 Li on Friday, 4/4 to have a diagnostic to figure out why the car was running sluggish and the "Check Engine/Drivetrain Malfunction" warning was on. After the initial diagnostic, I was told that I need spark plugs, engine coil and an upper duct gasket. I authorized the work only to be told a few days later that I also needed a breather hose, which I also authorized. After the work was completed and $1669.55 later, I picked up my car one week after dropping it off only to be told that the original problem had not been repaired. The worse part of this experience is the unapologetic, nonchalant attitude with which things were handled. After spending almost $1700 on repairs and $300 in rental car expenses only walk away with the same problem as I started with, I would expect some form of an apology or expression of empathy, if not a discount of some sort, as a customer service gesture. Instead, this situation was treated as business as usual. In the end, I still have a car that is not drivable, yet I'm out $2000. To add insult to injury, I sent this same message to the General Manager, per the shop's request, and received no response or acknowledgment. read more

They were unclear of desired service. Lady was non caring about it all. tires had not been delivered. they would need another day, on which I will be 4 states away- again, I was clear about this. it appeared to be of no concern, I addressed it with Patrick too- no timely remedy, no apology, NO SERVICE definitely concerned about getting people in, but also clearly NOT concerned about the needs of their customer. Ya know how you watch a long movie or read a long book, and you are enjoying it but the end is waaaayyyyy off, leaving you disappointed and annoyed you invested the time. For me, this place is like that. I brought my car in to replace the mirror and when it was "ready," I arrived to find they did not order all of the components, so it was missing the cover. Not to worry they said, because they duck taped the back protecting the internal components in the mirror (not kidding). This makes sense in what world? Keeping my cool, I spoke with the front desk staff and attempted a dialogue that might help them see it from my view. (In their minds, they were doing a "favor" by adding the tape). No luck- blank stares. To be fair, they attempted to order the back peice after my disapproval, but I was still responsible for getting it painted to match the car. They are not a body shop, I am told. Oookkaayyyy. I left a vm. to connect with the manager/owner, but I'm guessing my message was not passed along because no one called back. I get that they are not body shop but they are in the business of customer service and this was not that. Recommend they create a list of to dos for the people ordering parts. When they can't or won't order all of the little peices that really finish a job, they should alert the customer immeadiately and give them the opportunity to make decisions/alt. plans before they rearrange their schedule to get a half complete job. And just apologize: they can't be that clueless to assume this was ok. Initially I gave them 3 stars instead of one, because we brought our car there before (twice) for **basic** maintenance without issues. The pricing seem comparable to similar places. They also just renovated the "customer" service area so it looks clean and new. Then I gave 2 stars because one one contacted me ever. So if your car issue is the equivalent of a summer read, you should be fine. However, if your issue is the equivalent of one of the classics where there's symbolism, story nuisances, and unusual tone, you may want to really think this one though because they might be a tad tone deaf. read more

These folks are evil and racist. I paid them $2500.00 to service my 2005 mustang. First they want 50% deposit before they do work on your car. I think that's a black thing. I can't prove. They called me two weeks later to say my car is ready. I go pay them the remaining monies. I drive the car 2 hours. Check engine light comes on. I take it back. I paid them $180 to clean my engine and they did not perform the service. When I took my car back and complained things went down hill. I filed a claim with my bank to stop payment. Cooper lake called to tell me they would hold my car if I didn't release the claim. So I did that. Guess what. The car is running hot. Do not let these folks service your car if your are a black American. read more

I took my car to Cooper Lake for a busted hose. They left it on their lot overnight unlocked. They called me and told me my hood had been stolen (WTF!!). I show up to Cooper Lake and before going in, I go check my car. IT IS STILL UNLOCKED! Some electronics and money had been stolen from the inside in addition to the hood being stolen (check pic posted). They managed to get another hood of completely the wrong color attached to it. My wiper fluid no longer works due to the disconnect caused by this either. They said this had happened before (breaking into cars on their lot, not necessarily stolen hoods) but they thought they had it under control. I'd pass on this place. read more

I brought my car in on a Saturday for a diagnostic appointment and received a very detailed report regarding what needed immediate attention as well as other items that may need future repair, which included photos of all areas in question. Yes, you do pay for the diagnostic service, but it's like going to the dentist for tooth pain- you would pay the dentist for xrays and chair time, wouldn't you? A few other notes -The facility itself is very clean and they have a comfortable waiting room as well. -Great customer service from their team. -They are on top of the tech game- you can schedule online and they use a text messaging system which is great if you hate talking on the phone like I do. Im a dealer and took a vehicle to your shop to have a "Pre-purchase inspection done" because I recommended it to a potential client. That client called your shop; the report was shared with him and additional work done without my knowledge or consent; your staff did not have the decency to call and ask if it was okay to share the inspection report or to add additional charges to my bill. Though my fiancé is a certified mechanic, we have no place where we can do auto work if we need to, and our condo complex has rules against working on cars in the parking lot. We have a 2012 sportage that was having some AC issues. We dropped our sportage off at this shop over the 4th of July weekend. When the diagnostic was completed we received a text which contained a link to our diagnostic information. The diag info was extremely detailed, included photos, and items were color coded for good, address in future, and needs repair now. We were taking the car into get the AC issue we were having figured out. The tech checked the entire system to determine what we needed and the shop communicated with us effectively. We got our repair done and picked up the car after the 4th. The AC has been working great! The staff at Cooper Lake was professional, communicative, and they did good work. We were both highly impressed and we will be returning customers. read more

I have gotten a lot of work done on my car (Nissan 350z) at Cooper Lake Automotive. The customer service is great, however, the service is unreliable. When you go to an auto shop, you want the mechanics and the service to be consistent. You want to feel confident that the mechanics know what they are doing and that they will perform the service you are paying for. I took my car in with the error code P0014 to pass emissions and they were able to resolve the issue. But before I could pass emissions the service engine light on my car was on, and they diagnosed my car and told me I needed two brand new catalytic converters. The cost of the parts and the labor totaled to around $1,900. After the new catalytic converters were put in, the service engine light was still on! They told me they couldn't resolve the problem, and to go to a dealership (which I did). It cost an additional $500 for a brand new throttle body at the dealership. I was shocked an understandably angry. I swore I would never go back to Cooper Lake Automotive. However right before I was able to sell my car, my service engine light came back on. What was the error code? P0014, the code I paid Cooper Lake Automotive to fix less than a year ago. Because it was less than a year since the repair, the part was still covered under warranty. I took the car back to them the week before I was supposed to sell my car, because I couldn't sell my car to the buyer with the service engine light on. The cost of the part was free, but I had to pay $124 for labor to have the cam shift sensor (Bank 1) replaced. And guess what? I paid and went to turn on my car AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON!!! Didn't I just pay to have this issue resolved? I went inside and let the staff know and they told me they would try to resolve the issue again. I left my car there and slept on it. In the morning I realized I'm not going to continue to give them my money if they can't fix my car. A mechanics shop can't get by on good customer service. I'm paying to have my car fixed and that's what I expect to be done. I took it to another mechanic and it only cost me $95 and they fixed my car in less than 30 minutes. The bottom line is I just can't trust this shop. read more

I dropped off my vehicle at 3:00 on a Monday because the gauge was on Hot and air conditioning was not functioning at full force. I was told by Ashley that she didn't know if they would get to it as far as a diagnostic check that day. I certainly understood and wasn't expecting it as it was late afternoon. When I didn't hear anything back Tuesday at 12:30 I called to check on status. I was told it hadn't been looked at, and the gentleman told me he didn't know if it would be looked at that day. This I wasn't expecting. I went to pick up my car to bring it to another shop in hoping for a higher standard of Customer Service. I realize this shop is busy and it's obvious they don't care if they gain new customers. Ashley had the same flippant attitude as the gentleman did on the phone when I expressed my dissatisfaction. Upon reading other reviews it's apparent that this must come from the top. Had many good experiences here until the past year, when I have repeatedly spent hundreds of dollars on my Mazda's check engine light and it continuesly comes back on almost as soon as drive off of the lot at Cooper Lake. Also, I took my Subaru Outback here for a simple oil change and to see what has been making my car hesitate when driving it. They did the oil change but did not address my problem nor seemed willing to want to. I have since found out it was an oil leak, which they did not either see or failed to mention or fix. Avoid them. They seem too busy to actually focus on your car, but are super quick to ring you up. This was the first time I used Cooper Lake Automotive. I had read many on-line reviews that were very favorable...so I was expecting a first class operation. As a business owner I know that things do not always go as planned, and the true test of a great business is how they handle abverse situations. I broght my Explorer (129k+ miles) in for brakes and a noise in the rear dirve train. CLA called with an estimate and said they would have it finised by the end of the day. Later in the afternoon they called to say that they had damaged the rear axle while taking everything apart to replace a rear bearing, and they would not be able to get a new axle until the following day. CLA stuck to their original quote. I noticed an oil leak under the rear end after I picked my Explorer. I called and CLA asked me to bring it in so they could take a look. Upon instection CLA said they must have damaged a seal while making the repair and I would need shedule a day where they could make the repair. I asked if I could wait on it and they said they had to take the whole thing back apart and it would take most of the day to repair. While things did not go as planned, Cooper Lake Automotive made no excuses, applogized for the inconvience, and made it right. I will be back. read more

As a woman who finds the attitude in automotive shops pretty condescending and off putting, I am pleased to have found a shop that I don't dread going to. These folks have had the ability to rip me off and not done so. Twice they've been handed my car and each time they turned it right back over and told me it was a twenty dollar fix. This has made me more than comfortable always taking our vehicles to them. Work is always done in a fairly timely manner and the price is more than fair each time it's time to pull out the wallet. I found them through word of mouth and called to schedule an appointment last week. I spoke with Courtney who is very knowledgeable of the business and services they provide. She gave me a ballpark figure of what it would be for the tuneup as well as the description of the parts that would be installed. She scheduled me for Wednesday, March 8th. Today, I dropped the truck off at 8:00. She explained since I as new they would inspect it before working on it and contact me if there is any additional items that need to be addressed. I received a call around 4:30 stating my truck was ready and she offered suggestions about replacing two tires that were worn. She and Gary, I assume the manager, were very friendly and even answered questions I had about my truck. You have gained another loyal customer. I will be back for all services. Rip Off.... I sent my college age daughter over to get a Diagnostic check which I was told was $82.50 we were looking for a possible oil leak.... My daughter calls and say they are going to let me go because they have other appointments and charges her $82.50 but ask her to return next week for a full check... I get on the phone to ask why does she need to return... we only lifted the car and look for an oil leak we didn't find one but we will put it on the machine and check it. This is the greatest place ever!!! My wife and I were out of town when we had an alternator go out right in front of their shop. When I went in they said they could get me an appointment in a couple weeks, When I told them I was out of town and needed to get back to St Louis, they immediately sprang into action, going completely out of their way to get my car off the parking lot next door, putting a battery charger on and driving it into their service department. Repaired it on the same day, could have charged me for a new battery as well but was honest with us and said they were sure it would be O.K. Honest and integrity companies today are hard to find. Patrick and Ashley were the best that you could ever ask for. If I lived close by that would be the only place I would go. We were so thankful and grateful for their help and care!! I have had two negative experiences (Out of two visits) at Cooper Lake. They are really close to my work and home so I thought it would be very convenient. Unfortunately their customer service is terrible. The front desk quoted me 20-30 minutes for a service that ended up taking an hour. If they had updated me on an accurate time frame I could have dropped the car off. They wasted my entire lunch hour and made me late to return to work, and were not at all friendly, helpful, or truthful in the time frame. All I ask is that they let me know what is going on with my car, but no updates, and I've never spoken with a mechanic or anyone working on the car itself. They obviously don't know how to work on Subarus- instead of diagnosing an issue they bluntly told me to take it to the dealer for diagnostics of what ended up being a very simple issue. read more

I called in and got a quote for my starter but then requested an oil change as well once the car was at the shop. Cooper Lake was highly recommended by my uncle, who had used them for many years. However, my experience left much to be desired. I am a lawyer, but I have been doing my own auto repair for twelve years now, so I typically take in my vehicles to mechanics for specific tasks for which I do not have the tools, expertise, or time. In this case, I was replacing my master cylinder and ended up breaking a brake line. I didn't want to fool any more with it, so I wanted to take it in to a professional and be done with it. Cooper Lake trumpets their mechanics' college degrees and experience, so they were my first choice. I spoke with Gary on the phone and explained exactly what had happened in detail. He told me he would have to look at it. I asked for a ballpark maximum price, and he (reluctantly) quoted a maximum of $200 to replace the brake line. I had the car towed to the shop Monday night. After he had it for the better part of a day, I called him for an update Tuesday afternoon. He basically told me that he had looked at it briefly and was unable to find a premade brake line for the car. He then told me that it would be $800 or more to make a custom brake line. Since the brake line had broken right next to the master cylinder, I suggested reflaring the existing line. Gary said he would have to look into it, but that it would probably be around $400, and I agreed to that. He flippantly told me that he had 30 cars on his lot, and that it could take a few days. I gave him a couple of more days. I am used to taking a car into a shop and the mechanics beginning work on it. However, it seems that Cooper Lake is so busy that anything unusual is considered a low priority. I wish Gary had told me this before I had my car towed to his shop. Meanwhile, I was having to get up at 3:30 in the morning every day to drive my wife to work downtown as a paramedic. When I called back late Friday, Gary basically told me that no work had been done. He said that this type of work could take weeks... that some other guy had left his truck for a month. That is totally unacceptable. If these guys are so experienced, reflaring the end of a steel brake line should be no big deal to them. I was fed up at this point, so I suggested that I would go to a salvage yard myself and pull some used brake lines. I brought two just in case the other snapped. I spent a couple of hours on Saturday doing so, and delivered them to Cooper Lake on Monday morning. To their credit, they did the work on Monday and had the car finished that day. However, the total was over $450, which surprised me, given that he had quoted a max of $200 originally for installing a new brake line, and now I was supplying all parts myself. In summary, this was definitely a poor experience with Cooper Lake. They treated me as if I were a low priority and were not upfront with me before I had the car towed to their shop. They did not call me with updates (I had to call them). I was also disappointed, given their expertise, that they were not comfortable with flaring brake lines. If I had it to do over again, I would have just replaced the brake lines myself, and I would have saved myself time, money, and frustration. read more

We've been a long time customers of CLA, but now we'll be shopping around for a new place to maintain our vehicles. My wife recently had the oil changed in our 2013 Honda Pilot. The bill came to $127, for an oil change! Yes, it is synthetic oil, but still... Part of that charge if for checking our brakes, as we felt it might be getting time for a brake service. They charged us $20 to check the brakes, I've never had anyone charge me to tell me whether or not I need brakes. For reference we called 2 other places for comparison. The Honda Dealership quoted $45 for the oil change, $0 to check the brakes. Kaufman up the street quoted $59 for the oil change, $0 to check the brakes. So tack on another $15 or so for tax and "shop supplies" (don't get me started) and they are still way under $127. After calling around, we felt completely ripped off by CLA. read more
