My husband and I met another couple for dinner .. we all had a great time. I'd hoped to do a quick wine tasting since we went early around 4. But it was crowded .. parking lot full and tasting counter beyond full. So didn't get to do the tasting but you do get 2 free wine samples at your table this has nothing to do with being a member. They do try to get everyone to join the wine club which is a good deal if you come often and do the wine tastings ... but we don't. anyway we did the free samples and chose 1 we wanted to get a glass of ... I had the parmesan crusted chicken and with mash potatoes and pickled vegetables. It was fabulous and we shared a Reese cookie and icecream dessert. The do take reservations but it's hard to get one one the weekend .. so call days ahead. If you can go on a week day .. far less busy. read more

What a great place to grab a bite to eat. I was very intrigued with the red wine flight which turned out to be a great choice. Benjamin was our server and he was friendly and efficient. For my lunch I had the Gnocchi Carbonara and the lunch portion was the perfect size. I really enjoyed the texture of the gnocchi and the pop of the fresh peas. There's a large tasting room in front of the restaurant which I'm sure fills up quickly in the post-work hours. They also have a large patio out back which I would love to revisit in the summer when it's warm. read more

Such a fun evening tonight! Our waiter, Brendan, was unbelievable. He kept us well stocked all night. We were able to sample various blends that he recommended. Overall a good experience! I wasn't a huge fan of the food but it might've just been what I got, which was the chicken risotto but my friend love her shrimp scampi. There was complementary pretzel bread which was great to snack on while waiting for the entree. The service was nice and prompt in the dinner area but it was less interactive at the wine tasting counter, however it was packed at the counter so it's a little more understandable. It would've been nice to have an engaging conversation though because that's one of the things I enjoy and look forward to when I go to any winery. The tasting itself was great and you can switch out any of the wines for a different type, which I did--I loved the customizability. My husband and I choose new-to-us Cooper's Hawk as the place to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. Neither of us had been to a wine bar before, but we're always up for a new experience. The wait for a table was an hour on a Wednesday evening. We chose to see that as a good omen. So, we bellied up to the wine bar and ordered a variety tasting. The gentleman pouring the wines was friendly and helpful. I liked most of the wines I tried. When our table was ready, we perused the menu and found it all appealing. We ordered an appetizer which is itself generous enough to be a meal on its own. For supper, my husband ordered the chicken and chorizo entree and I got a more traditional surf-and-turf with filet mignon medallions, scallops, garlic mashed potatoes, and grilled mixed vegetables. (Hint: I detest cooked carrots, but these were really good!) Everything was well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. The staff were all friendly, kind, and helpful. The food was superb. After supper, we returned to the tasting bar and purchased some bottles of wine. Cooper's Hawk is now one of our top five places to dine in the Dayton-Springfield area. My wife and I, along with another couple, visited Cooper's Hawk on a Monday night. The restaurant itself is nice, with a solid ambiance that sets the right mood. However, the food was pretty mediocre, and the service left a lot to be desired. A few examples - It took them 40 minutes just to tell us they couldn't make a tea we ordered, which was frustrating. We also had to ask for silverware after our food had already arrived, and they placed it directly onto the dirty outdoor table--definitely not ideal. Everything seemed slow, and it took a full 20 minutes to get our check after asking for it. The servers were all quite young and seemed a bit out of their depth. Overall, not the worst experience, but it didn't live up to expectations. The ambiance might bring me back, but the service and food would need to improve significantly for me to become a regular. read more

The best time to go to this place in during their twice a month wine tasting events. You can't beat their selection. With a wide range of flavors and choices, it was great to be able to try 8 different pours with their "variety" package. Wine club members get free tastings, but it's $10/person for non-members. the bar was PACKED and we barely got a spot at 7 PM. Asia was a great bartender and made sure our glasses were full. Hostess/Greeter "Ana" SUCKED, based off HER attitude alone my party of 9 said they won't be back! Had reservations for a party of 8 @1:30pm asked to be outside the day before & reservation was adjusted, Upon arrival 12:30 we said we could wait to be seated in a area together. Ana repeatedly stated "we told you we can't guarantee anything" I told her it was fine as li g as we were "close" we understand purposely attempted to seat us on opposite ends of the patio with a free table next to the other one she stated there is "no serve for that table" I asked her if she would have her birthday lunch with her party completely separated over 20ft away she said "nothing is guaranteed" I said that is fine I called a day ahead and we will gladly wait. I asked for a manager but her snotty attitude will be address to corporate as NOBODY should stear away a party of 9+ at 1pm with WIDE open seating! Server Garrett is as accommodating and great!- thank you Garrett! You turned things around for the company and need a raise, WE appreciate your service and coopers Hawk need to be thankful for you as Anna almost ruined it for guest flying in from California. As for the manager she waited till she was addressed more then once to address and accommodate our party. A a buisness owner this is pathetic for a company that had wide open seating to not accommodate or figure it out at 1pm or a reservation on 8, yes we did have a last min add on so 9 total and next time I'll take a photo of how many tables were open. Regardless of staffing this GM should be ashamed of it staff for the poor service of today. Not only a wine member but an Amex buisness card holder who Mande a reservation flying in to have lunch for a birthday at a no full restaurant is ashamed and we won't be back. Appetizer border egg rolls were great. Charred broccoli was a little too chard and it wasn't steamed first. Parmesan crusted chicken was just okay. Portion comes in two flat breasts. It lacked flavor. I'm not a fan of white cheddar with potatoes, so the Betty's Mashed Potatoes as a side wasn't pleasing to me. Great place to dine with family & friends. We have been twice and I just feel Cooper's Hawk doesn't hit the heights you'd be looking for as a restaurant compared to the wine options. We tried varied dishes and appetizers and it just eclipse similar restaurants like a BJs or Cheesecake Factory. The wine options are obviously impressive, but the rest of the experience is just average. Looking at the length of the menu, it doesn't inspire confidence in any single "marquee" dish. Atmosphere is busy, service alright. For the price, I'd choose other options. read more

We went to Cooper's Hawk for the first time for our anniversary. We were seated quickly, but the service went downtown from there. It took forever to get our drinks, bread, and food. Our server checked on us once. It was obvious that we had finished our meal, yet it took our server over 20 mins to come back to our table so that we could get our boxes and the bill. She then brought the boxes but not the bill. When she FINALLY brought the bill, it took her another 15 mins to bring back my card and the receipt. We would go back for the food, but I am hoping the poor service gets fixed. Server tried to blame their computer system, but we watched other tables with different servers get in and out quickly. read more

My husband and I decided to stop in for lunch. I made a reservation through OpenTable, which works like a charm! First, I'd like to say, our server, Katie was amazing. Cheerful, had a smile, she offered good suggestions on the menu and even answered all of our questions!! Brett had the chicken piccata. He said the chicken was very tender. It wasn't as lemon-y as he usually has it but he said it was very tasty. I had a soup and salad, and I chose a Caesar salad and the lobster crab bisque. The bisque was absolutely amazing. I'm not sure I've had a lobster bisque that's been so flavorful. The Caesar salad was good dressing to me tasted a bit bland. I was going quite well until table was sat near us. The guests were extremely loud. I think they had a bit too much wine. Their language was a bit disturbing. I think it caused our server to be delayed getting us our bill. We definitely will return. The food was really good. The price was reasonable and I'm sure given different circumstances the disturbance would be less. I have to admit, I really like Cooper's Hawk, even after working at one for almost three years. It's where I first met my lady (at the location in Kenwood in Cincinnati) so it holds a special place with us. We also like to visit different locations to see if they do anything differently. Plus this one was very close by some good friends of ours so that made visiting here better. The tasting room up front was pretty nice and spacious. The staff, however, seemed very aloof and unattentive at first. It took at least 10 minutes before one even acknowledged us and they weren't busy at all. They could've at least greeted us and said, "I'll be with you in a moment." Even after we finally got our tasting started, our attendant simply poured and walked away, saying nothing about the wine. When I worked this position, I spent proper time with the guests, describing each wine, and answering any and all questions, no matter what. I like to think that made for a memorable experience for all my guests. Still, after our tastings, we went to the dining room for dinner. The dining area was nice and open. Our server, Jazsmynn, was extremely friendly and attentive. She started us out with a tasting of the delicious barrel reserve wine before we ordered our drinks. We ordered a bottle of Barbera on our wine club card as well as an order of Southwest Egg Rolls (always a favorite) to share. Couldn't forget the pretzel bread (mandatory, end of the story). As for our main courses, our friends got the ahi tuna sashimi and parmesan-crusted chicken, my lady got the parmesan-crusted mahi-mahi, and I got the short rib risotto (another favorite). It was all good, except our friend's chicken was a little undercooked, but a friendly manager fixed that right away. Go figure, we were too full afterwards to even contemplate dessert. Overall, this was a pretty good experience. I'd give a higher score if the tasting room attendants were more attentive and knowledgeable. I don't expect sommelier level knowledgeable, but have some knowledge of the product to share, because anyone can just pour the wine and walk away. The dining room experience helped though. Still, I feel the Kenwood location in Cincinnati is the best we've visited thus far, and not just because I helped open that one. read more

Salt and pepper haired host was stoic when my mother approached the stand for our 1pm reservation. He did not speak at all. I understand all staff is extremely busy , but his behavior was distasteful. Common courtesy is a quick "I'll be right with you ma'am". This is not the first time we've experienced this from a host. After we were sat 5 minutes later, we sat for 15 MINUTES until we had to get up and ASK who our server was. Brianna finally rushed over to take our order. We're understanding of things happening but again ... a simple "Hi I am your server and I'll be right with you " would have soothed us. Despite our service being barely adequate all of our food was delicious and it did not disappoint. Hopefully on our next visit we can have a better experience with the service. read more

Food: I'll start with the appetizers. We had bread and the egg rolls. The bread came out warm. It had a soft texture with a light taste. The egg rolls were delicious! If anything, this was my favorite dish of the night. It came with a bed of slaw and 3 different dipping sauces. I can't really remember the names, but one of them was sweet & tangy, and I enjoyed that sauce with the egg rolls the most. My husband got the trio medallion. It was cooked well and pretty decent sized filets. He said it was good, but he could go without the toppings. If anything, he would probably order something different next time as this isn't one he'd highly recommend to order. I got the red wine braised short ribs. It was good, but nothing earth shattering or something to truly rave about. I believe there was another dish that had the short ribs in it, and a part of me wished I had gotten that instead. Maybe next time if it's still on the menu! Our little one had ordered from the kids menu. It was your typical options: hamburger or cheeseburger, pizza, spaghetti, Mac n' cheese, etc. Little one ordered the flatbread cheese pizza with fruit and fries. She enjoyed it all, particularly the fries. Which I will say, their fries are yummy! If you can get fries in your adult meal, definitely get it! We ordered a Reese's PB and chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of ice cream. It wasn't my first choice but our little one was stuck on the idea of cookies + ice cream. I won't get this again as it is overly sweet. I love sweets, but this was something I couldn't really enjoy. I'd much rather stick with the pizookie from BJ's instead. Drinks: My hubs ordered the "Dirty Nasty" aka extra dirty martini. He enjoyed it. He then got a sample of wine -- can't remember which, except that it was a merlot. He said, it was smooth and not overly dry. There is a wine bar as soon as you walk in though. So if you're into wine tasting, this looks like the place to start! Service: our waiter was amazing! I wish I remembered his name, but he was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He checked in on us, but not so much that it felt like hovering. Ambience: It was good! It was a lively place for a Thursday evening, but that's a good thing. It's good for dates, families, and groups. Price: It's pricy. If you're looking for a cheap meal, this isn't the place. If you're looking for a simple, yet fine-ish dining experience, this is a good start! Can't find a listing for Yelp's Big Night In, but I opted for my fave dining spot! They closed completely for awhile, but quickly developed a carry out menu. So yeah. Curbside no less. Called it in, gave card number and picked it up. Easy peasy. And I tipped well...have family in service industry so I know times are hard. Got Short Rib Risotta and Gnoccie Carbona, Key Lime Pie and Chocolate cake wuth a side of vanilla ice cream. All delicious as always. Didn't go in to pick up my wine. I'll pick ir all up when this is over. Hope they will extend our tastings as well, but won't risk that now. It was so nice just not to eat my own cooking! I will be doing this again. read more

The manager assured us the full menu would be returning in July/August. My husband was disappointed & ended up just ordering a cheeseburger/fries.
