We booked our stay through Hotels.Com but the place was called The Lake house townhouse, so we were slightly confused when the hotel was called Baseball Hotel. I was happy to find a pet friendly place. There's a $15/night charge for the dog and if you booked through a website, be sure to note that you are bringing a dog (owner will settled the pet Payment separate). The exterior looks slightly deteriorated but the inside was pretty charming. They also have fire pits and picnic table onsite. The main building has single room rentals and there's upstairs too. The common area has a large seating area for breakfast dinning, games, and a separate sitting room with sofa and piano. The rooms in the main Building are very close together, I don't think I would like that. Luckily, we were at the townhouses. The townhouses are located behind the main building and there were 3 (?) separate townhouses. The one we stayed in had 5 separate rooms: Room 1: 2 queen beds. Room 2 -4: 1 Queen bed, Room 5: 1 queen & 1 twin + separate room with another queen bed. Each room had its own bathroom. The interior looked like it was recently remodeled. Country home feeling with wood panel throughout. Each townhouse has a shared kitchen and living room. They weren't fully booked so they were able to put our 2 parties together in the same townhouse. The beds are comfortable but the sheets were a little worn out and doesn't fit the bed too well, so when you sleep on it, the fitted sheet tend to roll up. The rooms are clean enough. We stayed here for 2 nights and each day, the breakfast is the same (buffet style): scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuit, coffee cake, milk, cereal, coffee, and OJ. Not bad but unfortunately they didn't have any ketchup or hot sauce to go with the eggs. I would say the overall feel for me was just OK. They definitely need some improvement and we've stayed in better B&B. For for the price, it was a good find if you are in a pinch. read more

Let me start by saying the staff was great and tried hard to be helpful. But they were limited as to what they could do. I use a wheelchair and asked if the room met ADA guidelines. I booked the room based on the assurance it did. It did not! My chair fit in the room, it did have a roll-in shower and ONE grab bar by the toilet. That was it. There were no grab bars in the shower, the controls for the shower were about six feet from the shower chair and there was no place in the shower, or bathroom, to place toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush ...). It also had a fixed shower head, not the hand held head you'd expect in a handicapped shower. If I had a 30" chair instead of a 26" chair it would have been almost impossible to maneuver around the room. This does not meet the ADA standard for a handicapped room. I could get into the shower but couldn't use it. My husband did and said there was no water pressure. The shower would only provide a light mist. Took forever to rinse off the soap. The restaurant is over a mile from the hotel. The library is a random collection of books, including World Book Encyclopedia Yearbooks from the 1960s.Totally missed any meeting room. No amenities (phone, ice, vending machine or snacks ...). They did have a communal refrigerator but I wasn't about to trust my prescription meds there. If all you are looking for is a room and a bed it was barely acceptable. I'd look else ware. read more

I booked this hotel knowing it was 30 minutes from Cooperstown. To those who claim a bait-and-switch: Why didn't you Google map your destination first? Their sister location, The Lakehouse, IS on the lake. The Lakehouse is a hotel/restaurant. The front desk at The Baseball Hotel will recommend the restaurant at The Lakehouse (food is classic American, we enjoyed it, the service was excellent). These two locations are owned by the same person. On my bank statement, the charge was to The Lakehouse, not The Baseball Hotel. Advice: be an adult and do your research. Yes, it was a bit pricey for a one night stay. I paid $207.20 for 3 adults in a Standard Room, Multiple beds (1 queen, 1 twin, private bathroom). The place is set up like a summer camp, but decorated with old furniture, mirrors, church pews, piano, paintings, rugs, etc. Its a little musty. Not an ideal "HOTEL experience". We only stayed for one night so I cannot comment on the hotel's maid service. This is a popular spot for families and traveling little league sports teams. The surrounding area is pretty ghetto, but there is a liquor/wine store (no beer) within walking distance. Personal opinion: I would LOVE to do a photo shoot here. The set-up is just so eclectic. PROS: We were able to check-in an hour early! If you are considering this place to stay, run the other way!! First off, let me preface this to say I have never written a review on any site previously. However, this place was so bad I had to do so. First, there was no one there to greet us even though it was 4:00 pm. We rang the bell they have at the front desk repeatedly. Finally after 10 minutes we called the number on our reservation confirmation and were told they were not on site and would send someone there. While waiting, we looked around the public areas which seemed to be furnished in all sorts of hand me downs. Nothing was a nod to the name, the Baseball Hotel. After another 10 minutes someone appeared and directed us to our room. We had requested and paid for a first floor room with a king bed. We received a second floor room with a queen bed. This room was extremely small with, again very old furninure. The bathroom was so small we could not use the commode while closing the door. Then I could not find the toilet paper. Here it was up under the window curtain. On the edge of the curtain was a bit of something brown. The sink and shower were both dirty. Then we looked at the bed. It was obvious that these sheets had not been changed in quite a while. The front door of the facility was left open all night long with no attendant. There was no security of any type. Lastly, not only was there no breakfast offer as advertised, there was not even a coffee pot to be found. So, if you are looking to find a quaint place to stay with baseball memorabilia this is not it. read more

If I could rate this hotel 0 stars, I would. Talk about false advertisement. This place claims to be the "Baseball Hotel" but has 0 baseball memorabilia or anything baseball-related. The hotel room was dirty - stains on the bedding, crumbs/hair under the sheets, hair on the towels, cobwebs, visible dust everywhere. Breakfast was included in the price, but due to the lack of cleanliness, we didn't dare to eat there. I have never felt strongly enough to write a review before, but this place was outlandishly overpriced and extremely dirty. read more

This was by far one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Upon arrival the lady at the front desk had no knowledge of my reservation. I showed her the email confirmation and my ID. She then calls someone(I assume the manager) and then proceeds to give them the wrong last name. She then tried to hand me the phone and I was like I will just go somewhere else. I start to walk away and she tells me they have a room for me. I was exhausted and should have left but I really just wanted to take a nap. The rooms were old and gross. No blankets. No hot water at 9am and 10:30pm. No internet. Breakfast on a weekday was luke warm scrambled eggs, overheated leathery sausage, cold biscuits, toast, and cereal. The bed had BROWN sheets. The bedspread had many stains. They tried to cancel our reservation and said we hadn't paid when actually we had made reservations a year in advance and had already fully paid by credit card. We had to send them our credit card statement to prove we had already paid. Upon arrival we were booked at the Lake House and they switched us to the Baseball Hotel, so there wasn't any lake views, just some run down housing around the neighborhood. We needed a last minute place to stay near the Baseball Hall of Fame, and ended up here. It was far better than I would have hoped. We stayed on the 2nd floor which has totally been renovated. They offered some coffee/bagels which was nice. The hotel was comfortable and conveniently located to all of the Cooperstown attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The staff was extremely helpful. After I left the Hotel, staff was able to hold my bags after the airlines lost my luggage. They called me and let me know my bags were delivered. read more

A great place to stay. Our group of 10 (3 families with kids between 4 and 11) stayed in the hotel rooms. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. This is the off season so the rooms are not used as often but we found our room had been opened up and aired out before our arrival, the bathroom had extra over-the-door hanging space. There are full menus in the lobby for local restaurants and the staff offered extra info on each restaurant along with unadvertised coupons for a free glass of wine with our meal. We will definitively be back again and spend the week next time. read more

Went on a family trip to Cooperstown and stayed at this beautiful Inn. It's located on a lake and the views are stunning. They offer onsite fishing and canoeing- which my kids loved. The room was spacious, clean, and filled with antique charm. The restaurant was very tasty. If you are going to Cooperstown take a few extra minutes to stop and enjoy the sights at The Baseball Hotel along the way. read more

Great great great hotel!! Never been at a hotel like this. Felt like camping like when you were a kid at summer camp. The place is very historic, very neat place that had a lot of soul. Everything worked, very comfy. Not like at some name brand hotel with no feeling. This place made you feel glad you were there. They supplied wood if you wanted to have a Bon fire, served a neat little breakfast for free as well. Plenty of books to browse through, a common area where one might study maps or meet fellow travelers. A very old cemetery by the church was really neat to walk through. Also, Shane who was the check in guy, was very helpful, very friendly, and made us feel glad we chose this place to stay at. No regrets. Ignore the snobs who gave this place one star. They are way out of line. My wife and I stay at places all over the country and very few places we have stayed at left the impression of this place. If we didn't live in Washington state we would stay here more often. Check this place out if you are staying in the Cooperstown area! read more

The Baseball Hotel is NOT near Cooperstown. Beware the bait and switch. I booked this hotel on Expedia, thinking it was near Cooperstown. I did a search for "hotels" in "Cooperstown." The location on Expedia shows this as being on a lake. NOT the same lake as Cooperstown is on. They show pictures of the location on a lake. HOWEVER, the location is of their sister location the Lake House (which has less than stellar reviews). The Baseball Hotel is in the town of Richfield Springs. It is NOT on a lake. It is over 25 minutes away on very windy roads. The listing on Expedia is very deceptive. When I realized the deception, I contacted Expedia, immediately after making the reservation. Expedia contacted the hotel, but they refused to refund my money, even though this was immediately after making it. Expedia threw up their hands and the hotel hid behind a policy which does not make refunds. Apparently they make money off of people's honest errors. I called the hotel, was told by Brian that he would call me right back. He never did. I called a dozen times, sent two emails and a tweet, but got no response. I would not recommend this place at all. There are many other choices that are better options closer to Cooperstown. I have to give one star. If I could I would give no stars. read more

The hotel has its pros and cons.It is not next to a lake or a short drive from the HOF, but the staff was friendly and it was not difficult to get to the HOF or a few lakes. There is a bar, Chinese restaurant, and pizza place walkable. When we stayed here the clientele seemed to be primarily families who were in town for junior baseball tournaments. They had bonfire pits and park benches on site for the guests. Not a fancy hotel and the location isn't overly impressive but I would still recommend this place to a guest who is looking for a clean, decent place to stay. read more

As you enter the lobby you are assaulted with the smell of a cat litter box. The hotel check in desks were piled high with a mess of papers and junk and if you look into the office you would think a hoarder lived there. I can't believe they charged us $140 for a room that I would not have paid $50 for. The furniture and bed are probably 50 years old and filthy. The bed had two nice indents on each side, one for my husband and the other for me along with stains and bleached out spots on the sheets. The room is at about a 15 degree slope and you feel like you are in the fun house. The dirt and grime in the room is from years of not properly cleaning. This odor of mold, mildew, cat pee, dust and burnt food permeated the restaurant, stairway, "great room" and our room # 3. The only redeeming factor was the bartender and waitresses which were entertaining and sweet. The view on the lake was beautiful also. read more

We had a great time staying at the Baseball Hotel for a two night stay. It's a short drive to the Baseball Hall of Fame, downtown area, and breweries. The house is so adorable and the hosts are very welcoming, offering tons of tips on local restaurants. STAY AWAY!!!! I booked this hotel via VRBO/HomeAway based on the title "Cooperstown Baseball Hotel." This place is no where near Cooperstown. Over 30 minutes away, I arrived after a 7 hour drive. The lobby was dark, dank and a dive. They couldn't find my reservation. Clearly the "Cooperstown" part of the title was a marketing ploy to mislead customers. It wasn't even part of the sign once you arrived. I requested a refund for false advertising and have received no reply from the owner. A complaint to VRBO said it was between me and the owner. VRBO wouldn't even let me leave the review because I didn't actually stay there (I left and drove to a real hotel in Oneonta). DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS DUMP! read more

We booked this hotel for 6 nights with high expectations after reading the description on-line and reading the mostly positive "reviews". I travel a lot to big cities for work, so when traveling with my family I like to go "off the beaten path" to explore small towns. So when we booked our travel for my son's baseball tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park, the "Baseball Hotel" in Richfield Springs sounded like perfect place. Upon arrival, it became immediately obvious that the name was chosen to attract baseball families like our own; yet, there was nothing baseball-themed about the property except for five small trophies in the eating area. Calling this the Baseball Hotel is like calling my house the Hamburger Hut because I have a pound of ground beef in the fridge. There was at least one other baseball family there that we met in the parking lot as we pulled in. They'd checked in the day before and I asked the dad how the hotel was. He paused, made a face, and simply said, "Interesting," in a way that implied it wasn't what they were expecting. We didn't let that curb our enthusiasm since we were tired from a long day of travel and happy to be at our resting place. Our room was small, but neat and clean, with quilts on the two queen beds. We didn't stay long since we needed to get to Cooperstown for opening ceremonies. When we returned that night, we were exhausted and slept fine. The next morning we went down for the continental breakfast. It is standard fare for a low-end hotel chain: Styrofoam, plasticware, a couple types of dry cereal, English muffins, plain bagels, mini-muffins and pastries (the kind you buy frozen by the hundreds) and some fruit. The OJ and milk dispensers were on a table about 12 inches from the coin-operated washing machine guests can use. Not sure if that's a health code violation in NY, but just a little bizarre. My youngest son and I went on a walk to explore the area after breakfast. We walked down Main Street which is one block from the hotel. While the hotel website makes Richfield Springs sound like a quaint step into yesteryear, the sad reality is that it gives the appearance of an economically depressed town with aging buildings and several vacant storefronts. Two of the four corners of the Main Street intersection are occupied by a liquor store and a bar. The hardware store nearby seemed to be the only thriving business aside from a small diner-type restaurant. The neighborhood near the hotel has old homes with beautiful architecture, but many were dilapidated and at least one appeared condemned. Another review for this hotel referred to it as "ghetto" but I wouldn't call it quite that bad. According to an online query, the median earnings for this zip code is about $32,000 and the area reflects that. Now I am sympathetic to the many small towns that haven't recovered from the most recent recession (or earlier ones) and the people that populate them. Most are honest, hard-working citizens with not a lot of options. But, honestly, it's not the environment I want my family to be in when we're aiming for a relaxing vacation. The real problems started the third night when we returned to our room from a long day of baseball. For a second straight day, we returned to a room with unmade beds and unemptied trash. To be fair, the first day a cleaning person came by but we were still in the room and told her to come back in 15 minutes after we departed. But they never came back, and no one came at all on the second day. My wife went down and told the woman at the front desk. She apologized and said that was awful and promised it would be cleaned the next morning. Not a huge deal - we're not high-maintenance people, but disappointing since we were paying $150+ per night to come back to a dirty room. As I prepared for bed later that night, I happened to look up at the bathroom ceiling and noticed several orangish-brown spots all over the ceiling. I had noticed the peeling ceiling paint before, but wrote that off to just being an old building and it didn't really bother me too much. But I've been a homeowner long enough to know when I see spots like that (and peeling paint), you're likely dealing with a moisture problem. At worst, this could be mildew or mold. It's at this point, my eyes were opened to other issues that I wouldn't expect in a $150 room: - Cracked window pane - Water leaking from the base of the toilet onto the bathroom floor - Exposed wires in a corner of a ceiling where I assume an ancient light fixture had been removed - A rusting old light fixture (no bulb) above the toilet that had never been removed But it was the spots on the ceiling that led me to the decision to check out early the next morning and find other accommodations. I do not mess around with anything that could even remotely possibly be mold or mildew. I have a special needs son who has severe allergies that I cannot take the chance of exposing to bad air. read more

Included breakfast was marginal - a bowl of hard boiled eggs and a couple of cold cereals. Spiders and flies in the cramped room. Stay away! read more

Friendly service and the bathroom was clean. BUT the bath towels smelled musty and the bed linens did not looked washed. At our request, the bed linens were changed. The walls and ceiling are paper thin. If you stay here, request a room upstairs AND bring ear plugs. A morning shower with cold water topped it off. Will not return. read more

Please read before you book here! My husband and I booked this hotel knowing it was not in Cooperstown but thinking it looked like a quaint place to stay during our anniversary weekend celebration. We booked the hotel for a Friday planning on driving only 3 of the over 6 hours it takes us from Maryland and leaving on Thursday after my husband got off work. Plans surprisingly changed and we were on the road shortly after 2pm Thurs. We called the hotel asking if we could change our reservation from Friday to Thursday. The gentleman who answered the phone informed us he wouldn't be at the hotel when we arrived that evening because he was leaving for an appointment. This was at 5pm. No problem, we'll stay at our "go to" Holiday Inn Express Thurs evening. After all it was the same price AND you get breakfast. I called booking.com to see if they would contact the hotel regarding a possible refund, on a non-refundable room, because we did try to stay at their hotel. They were able to get a return email from Christine stating we would be charged the full amount, she provided the room and it was non-refundable. Thinking that maybe if I explained our situation, Christine might have a change of heart I tried to phone her. It was early enough she could have rented the room out to someone else or maybe she had already. No one answers the phone on Fridays apparently. Several, several failed attempts later we resigned to the fact that we had lost $140+ and a lot of respect for this so called business. Upon reading some other reviews it seems we are not the only ones who have experienced their feeble attempt at customer service. read more

I booked this room for more than 9 months from now. An unfortunate health condition has forced us to cancel our trip to Cooperstown planned for August of 2017. Expedia appealed to the owner of The Baseball Hotel on our behalf twice to refund our money due to these circumstances. The manager was insensitive and uncooperative. Shame on you. You would easily be able to rent the room to another customer. I will do my best to spread the word. read more

He immediately said he couldn't do that and that I should have let him put us in another room since he had "20 other rooms" he could have put us in (yes, the hotel was mostly vacant while we were there - maybe 7 or 8 rooms occupied by my estimate). Truthfully, after what we experienced above, I wanted to get as far away as possible. And in all my years of travel, I couldn't believe that was his response. No apology. No owning anything that they came up short on. He simply wrote down the items I listed and said he would check to see "if these things were actually as I described."
