After taking the local route from north Georgia into Tallahassee, to decided to stop at this place Guy Fieri visited back in 2024. As you walk in great to be welcomed by what looks like a place where the locals meaning college crowd hang out. Dropped with sports and college memorabilia, well used tables and chairs, we were properly greeted by a young college student. Quickly shown to our tables we were welcomed by our waitress. She was very friendly and helpful in highlighting some of the better dishes. So we ordered the gator appetizer which was lightly breaded and tasted very fresh, served with a side of remoulade dipping sauce. Then we had a bowl of seafood gumbo and the red beans and rice with have a hot link. Both dishes were very flavorful and I would definitely recommend them. The only negative is that they were both a little on the salty side for our liking. Oh and my wife had hoped for more okra in the gumbo. But yes I would definitely recommend this place and it was great to see a diverse crown from young kids to the elderly in what looked like a college bar environment. read more

2025-03-30 The onion rings were stellar- just like my grandma used to make them! My friend is addicted to their burgers and always asks for them to be flattened a little on the griddle because he doesn't like thicker burgers. Delicious- all the time. Today, I was in the mood for fried seafood. I've had their seafood pasta which is terrific. I wanted to know if the shrimp was fresh or frozen and the waitress went back to ask. She said they were fresh from southern seafood. I ordered the catfish and shrimp platter. I wish I had remembered to ask for them lightly fried. When I saw the shrimp, I knew it was overdone. The batter on it was not light and flaky like on the onion rings. The catfish were small nuggets and I got about six of them. The saving grace was the delicious cocktail and tartar sauce. I don't think I'll be ordering fried seafood from this location again. The hush puppies were dense, heavy, tasteless and inedible. I took a bite and spit it into my napkin. I will eat at coosh's again because I know some of their food is very good. I even like their custom dressings and seasonings. Well, this visit was nice, the bathrooms were clean, the waitress seemed to forget us when it came time for the checks. --------------------- This is from another visit: I've been to Coosh's several times and enjoy the food. However, there are two things lacking. One would be the service and two would be clean bathrooms. I arrived first thing in the morning for breakfast. The service was slow and there were not many patrons in the restaurant. The beignets were very good. My chorizo and eggs with corn tortillas were great and the grits were perfectly seasoned. However, when I went to the restroom to wash my hands, the floor was so sticky my feet would stick to it. My sneakers made sounds as they were pulled from the floor as I walked. The sinks were dirty and the toilet was not much better. A lot of young people work here which is a good thing but it seems like they have very little oversight. Tables were left sitting without being bussed. This restaurant has a potential to be a four-star restaurant. Because of the slow service and the dirty restrooms I removed a star. read more

Coosh's is a Tallahassee institution (at least for me as as a Chiles alum). In high school in Tallahassee, kids always came back from lunch with a Coosh's to-go cup in hand. All these years later, I finally checked Coosh's out for brunch after church to see what the hype was all about. It was SUPER busy on a Sunday afternoon but we were seated immediately at probably one of the last available tables. Service was slow but we got our order in quickly once our server came around. We ordered three of Our Famous Beignets which were pretty solid - they're not Cafe du Monde but I was still satisfied. I decided why not go big while I'm home so I ordered the Hangover, which was a massive bowl of grits (I'm not exaggerating when I say massive). It was super heavy, as I expected, and maybe not my first choice for an entree if I were actually hungover. However, it was tasty and flavorful and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Overall, while I know one brunch dish is not indicative of the entire rest of the menu, I definitely would love to stop in again to see what brought the kids in everyday for lunch. read more

Coosh's Bayou Rouge Restaurant was recently featured on the Food Network Guy Fiere show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We really wanted to try this location after seeing the show. I am fairly certain we had dined at one of their previous locations. I will treat this review as never having dined there before, which is true for this location. We arrived after the lunch crowd had departed about 1:30 pm on a Saturday. There is ample parking in this strip shopping center. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. Bring a sweater. It was cold, but then again, I am usually cold in most restaurants. As I am reviewing the restaurant's website for their menu, please note that one item we ordered is not even listed on the website menu offerings. I am not sure about the reason. We were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered a trio of Coosh's standards. Maybe it was a flite or just the way it was offered on the menu. At any rate, on a platter, we ordered Gumbo, Crawfish Étouffée, and Atchaflaya Soup. (see picture) They're served in three separate cups with a small slice of bread. It is enough for two people. We took home probably half of each. The server was great to accommodate to go cups for each item. The Crawfish Étouffée was my dining companion's favorite and next time, he will order a regular portion by itself. I ordered the seafood combo plate with choice of two items. I opted for the fried shrimp and fried catfish nuggets. The plate is served with fries. One noticeable thing was the way the batter adhered to the shrimp and catfish. Often as you take a bit, half the batter falls off. Not with Coosh's batter. They also provided remoulade sauce on the side, and that has such a striking and delicious flavor. You want to dip everything in it! I also liked the Coosh's seasoning, which they offer at the table in a shakable container. They also sell it, but we couldn't find anyone working at the counter to make a purchase. The seasoning is tasty but subtle in a way that Tony Cachere's seasoning tastes like 99 percent salt. Coosh's seasoning is really good and try it on fries! Again, the plate was plentiful and I took home half. The restaurant also featured a pretty extensive dessert case, t-shirts and other merch, but we again, couldn't find anyone to help us with a purchase to go. Service was attentive up to the meals being brought out. We had to flag the server for to go containers and again for the check. This restaurant is worth trying out and we felt fortunate we picked a time we didn't have to wait for a table or wait for our meals. read more

Looks like a fun place. Don't mind the casual atmosphere. The server was mediocre at best. Served my husband salad and never brought silverware. We had to ask for it. His Captain Al dish - catfish covered with crawfish étouffée - could've been much better. Too much flour in the étouffé and crawfish was far too fishy smelling and tasting. He could not finish it.(we are from New Orleans). He said the catfish was good though. My Atchafalaya soup was pretty good, and my daughter-in-law said her burger was very very good. Kids meals were ok, although these are not very good fries. Far too dry. And the chicken nuggets were very very dry. My grandson was not a fan. read more

Coosh's is filled with Cajun favorites. One son had gumbo, the second had a half muffaletta. I had a burger. All were prepared well and the server was super, friendly and attentive. She had lived in Raleigh, as I had. The portions are very large and the price was around $50 for all of us with Bigneits for desert. Coosh's Bayou Rouge (specifically), 6267 Old Water Oak Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312 restaurant came highly recommended, and up until Saturday, every visit lived up to the hype. But this last experience? An absolute disaster from start to finish. From the moment we were seated, the warning signs were there. Our waiter arrived looking like he had just come in from yard work (not an exaggeration), shoulder-length oily hair, sweat-soaked armpits, and attire far from professional. When he asked, "How can I help you?" my gut said LEAVE. But, trusting my past experiences, I stayed. Big mistake. We ordered ribs with fries, and red beans and rice. What we got as insulting: cold ribs (not lukewarm cold) and fries burnt to a crisp. I called the manager over and asked him to touch them, and afterwards, he admitted the ribs were cold. He promised to remove them from the bill and replace them with something else. We asked for the buffalo chicken dip. Unbelievably, the tortilla chips arrived burnt. Again, I called the manager and this time he was clearly irritated, and with an attitude said, "They're not burnt, that's how we cook them." No, I've eaten here many times, and the chips have NEVER looked like burnt. Instead of acknowledging the problem, he doubled down with arrogance. At that point, we decided not to take another chance on the kitchen and prepared to leave. But wait, it wasn't over. The final slap in the face came when reviewing the check. The manager, who had promised the replacement that one meal, never mind my dried out, clumpy, lukewarm red beans and rice, would be free, denied ever saying that. Selective amnesia, on top of cold food, burnt food, and an attitude problem. Coosh's Bayou Rouge completely dropped the ball. This wasn't just a bad meal, it was a cluster of poor service, cold and burnt food, to a missed "teachable moment" by an dismissive manager. This is one of the few really "local" places and I can't believe it was my first time there. We were there to celebrate a family memory and a birthday and it didn't disappoint. Usually we loge the Sunday brunch, but today it was disappointing. I ordered a mimosa which was delicious and three beignets. The beignets were hard and cold and not fresh the fruit cup was good.. Then I ordered the Irish coffee because I was chilly. It was lukewarm at Best, and even though I said, even though I sent it back, it was never very hot. At $10 a cup, I expected more. The food was genuinely inedible, which makes its feature on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives difficult to understand. The food belonged in the dumpster. Unfortunately, the dishes we ordered were bland and significantly overcooked. Again, all these dishes were featured on the show. Items that should have been enjoyable, including the gator and fried pickles, were excessively tough and heavily breaded. The only consumable part of the meal was the soda. A little flava of Louisiana in Florida. I spent years working the western gulf coast and this is as close as it gets in the sunshine state. The red beans are as good as you'll get outside of the bayou state. Do add some extra andouille sausage. We tried the Buffalo po boy this time and it was spicy and delicious. The food was fantastic. Our server must have been new because he was t sure what was in any of the dishes. He was very polite. Coosh stopped by, too, and he had a warm smile and friendly hospitality. For dinner and appetizers, we tried the jambalaya pasta, Buffalo chicken dip, house salad, shrimp po boy, and seafood gumbo. Everything was delicious, and the helpings were generous--enough for two meals. I picked up two desserts to go. The cookie dough cake was outstanding and made a perfect mini birthday cake. The chocolate cake was a bit on the dry side, but the icing was tasty. The staff were all very friendly. I hope to visit again. read more

I don't know really what to say about this Resturant. It was reading as 4 stars from reviewers, but after going, I'm thinking all the reviewers are the ones working there. Atmosphere is cool. But none of the food is. I have never in my life had dry jambalaya until I got to this place. My wife got the ribs, but they wasn't good either. My grand daughter got the cheeseburger, but she never touched it. Cause it didn't look like a regular burger. But the taste was different to. To each his own. I'm not gonna knock this Resturant, but it's definitely not for me and my family. And we will never eat there again. The red beans and rice was super dry to. Also everything is 1 dollar more then what is on the menu. They don't let u know that. You just see it on your check. read more

Decent place. Server was excellent. Look at desserts when you enter because they say they're not on the menu based on daily preparations varying from day to day. Each time I come the alligator becomes ... more & more chewy. Sometimes they're good other times not. It's a roll of the dice and you're never sure if they're a 5 or a 9 on any given day. It's like going to a BarBQ spot and not knowing what taste you're going to get. Fried catfish with a sauce?? So so. The rice was cool (neither cold or warm) with warm gravy over it. Just a meal that they seemed to be serving without much love in prepping the food. I like the ambience and want this to be a go to spot, but ...... probably not. This is my husband's favorite restaurant, I think mainly because the cake slices are humongous! LOL! The food is good, though I've had a couple of issues in the past with lukewarm entrees that I had to send back. In any case, we recently took a colleague to dinner (informal, after work). We started with the buffalo chicken dip, which my husband loves but is "so-so" from my point of view. My husband ordered fried catfish, I ordered the seafood, and our colleague (from Pennsylvania) ordered the shrimp and grits, which she loved! The portions are very generous (enough to take home "doggie bags" to have leftovers the next day). We ordered a slice of pecan praline cheesecake, which I took to go and my husband had a piece of what I believe was Mississippi mud pie/cake. Either way, he enjoyed the dessert. My cheesecake was delicious the next day. :o) Our server was super nice and attentive. Great service, good food. I visited coosh's on a Friday afternoon. On google it states this location is permanently closed but they were still open. We walked in the establishment and greeted by a kind server that sat us and got out orders in. This place was extremely dark on the inside so we sat by a window. We ordered the shrimp Cajun pasta which was okay the hush puppies were disgusting and I ordered the shrimp wrap. One of the best places on the northside of Tallahassee that we've been to. It was a rainy day but they have a covered porch outside where we could sit outdoors with our pup and still enjoy a great meal. We started out with an appetizer of alligator which was fried and comes with a tasty sauce. Our hosts had had it before and said it was tough before but this time it was great. We really liked it and would definitely order it again. Since my kiddo (teenager, actually) hadn't tried alligator before I wanted him to try it out. Everyone loved it. They had $5 hurricanes which were so sweet and wonderful. A nice sized drink. I'm now a big fan of juicy rum drinks. (We might have had more than one of those! ) For entree I chose a trio sampler of marvelous Atchafalaya Soup, the Crawfish Etouffee and chicken & Sausage Gumbo, It was really good. Kiddo got the po' boy and really liked it. My gracious host got the jambalaya pasta which was amazing ... I'd like to get that myself next time. Really creamy and delicious. I heard that the service was spotty but our service was excellent. She was someone who was prompt, and she was very pleasant. She seemed well versed I the menu and was able to steer me in the right direction when I had questions. No dessert so I can't speak to that. Maybe one of these days on our next visit to Florida, we'll have to try that out. Yep, there's a good reason why this place is highly recommended by my hosts. Coosh's Bayou Rouge - $5 Hurricanes tonight - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Tallahassee, Florida

I was in town visiting my sister and she wanted to bring me to Coosh's - we chose the much further away from campus location since they are a quieter crowd and have parking available. We got the garnet and gold nacho appetizer and it was delicious - the sauces they use are incredible together. I got the cajun chicken club, which was excellent. We also had the buffalo chicken sliders and fried seafood platter with gator and crawfish. My entire family was in town for graduation this past week and we decided to have dinner here and the experience was much less pleasant this time. Our server was attentive and constantly running back and forth to keep our drinks full, but the food wasn't great. I had the cajun sampler and chose the red beans and rice, seafood gumbo, and crawfish etouffee. The seafood gumbo was cold, which is so weird because I saw another review on here stating the same thing happened to them. I was so hungry that I didn't get a chance to mention it to the server when she came back a while later to see how everything was. We tried a variety of dishes - the fried seafood platters (fried crawfish had a ton of tiny bits and pieces of batter but not many larger ones) with shrimp and crawfish, jambalaya pasta (really good and highly recommend), and salads. The seasoning they use on their french fries is good and their ranch is really nice too. They were all out of any daiquiris, which is why we chose to eat here, so we were extra bummed. I've been coming here for years but recently tried their Bloody Mary for the first time and I must say they may be the best I have ever tasted, and I am 'quite old' and have had 100's of Bloody Mary's in my lifetime. I cannot believe I haven't left a review for Coosh's yet. I am giving 5 stars because out of the numerous meals I've gotten here (brunch, lunch, and dinner) I have not been disappointed. Like a few check-in pictures featured, I chose to have the Logan's chicken salad last night. For those doing lo-carb, this is the dish for you. There are caramelized onions, blue cheese crumbles, grilled buffalo chicken, tomatoes, and cheese interspersed throughout this salad. The blue cheese dressing pictured on the side is fresh, chunky, and one of the best I have had in town. I think the most impressive thing for me about Coosh's is that they served the community for a reduced price a few years ago when the hurricane knocked out the power for close to a week. They got their food truck purring in their parking lot and provided a tasty menu at a reduced cost. My family and I enjoyed our meal by candlelight. I will continue to support Coosh's for its food and service consistency. Double bonus, their desserts are rich and delicious. read more
