Coosh's was a good spot for lunch by the FSU campus! I was very impressed with the jambalaya pasta - it was cheesy and had delicious meat throughout the pasta. The flavor was topnotch. My friend got the BBQ poboy and was not a big fan, but said the fries were good. The ambiance was not bad. When you walked in, there was an odd smell, so that took away from the ambiance. Been here many times. Usually a fun place. Tonight, a blond waitress in the back section near the bathrooms told us we could not order food. So we went to the bar and they took our food order. Next thing we know security is trying to escort us out. For no reason! Waitress was mad we ordered from bar but we tried to order from her and she refused. We are not confrontational people. We just wanted to watch the game. We were made to feel very unconformable. I will never return. I would recommend any other college town restaurant and NOT this one. So, for me that was awesome because I knew my order would be quick and fresh. Okay for the food: The shimp and grits were divine!!! The shrimp was plentiful and the cheese in the grits were just enough not to overpower the taste of the grits. The gumbo was also full of flavor.(I actually ate it the next day because the shrimp and grits was such a huge offering) I could taste the crab all the way through. TLDR: Food was horrible. A lot of food was unavailable. Service was fine. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! Being from Louisiana, and feeling a bit homesick, my wife and I decided to get with a few other Louisiana friends and go to Coosh's. This was a mistake. If you are from Louisiana, avoid this place. This is NOT Louisiana food. FOOD: They were out of several items including hush puppies, oysters, muffulettas, and jambalaya. We were not allowed to get anything in place of the hush puppies except more fries. Seeing as how we had already had cheese fries for an appetizer, this came as a great disappointment. The order of cheese fries was the best food eaten that night. Once the food arrived, we were shocked at the catfish. Instead of the catfish fillets several of us ordered, we instead received what can best be described as "breast of unnamed fish". Even though I have easily eaten my money's worth at several All-You-Can-Eat catfish joints, this fish tasted so horrible I was only able to choke down one of the "fish breasts". As my stomach later informed me, even that one "fish breast" was a mistake. DRINKS: The beer and mixed drinks were exactly what you'd expect. While not everything was in stock (theme of the night), no complaints on the bar. The water tasted off (perhaps they just have old pipes) and the sweet tea was neither sweet, nor tea. That "drink" was so bad we ordered different drinks. ATMOSPHERE: It was fine. Nothing to brag about, but no complaints either. We were told that this place was "the place to be" for Mardi Gras. Excited, and anticipating a large crowd, we called ahead and made a reservation for 5:30p. Upon arrival, we found this was unnecessary. The restaurant had one table of four seated when we arrived. My Jai Alai IPA was served in a plastic cup and as a fraternity and their dates walked past us, I had to remind myself, this -is- Collegetown. Our waitress was attentive and the food came out quickly. I went with the shrimp po'boy and the bread stood up to the fillings. Overall, a nice sandwich that came with gratifying cajun-seasoned crinkle fries. The fried pickle chips, like the rest of Coosh's fried foods, are well seasoned. I skipped the strong mustard-based remoulade that came with them in favor of ketchup. I'm happy to have a Coosh's closer to the heart of town and look forward to revisiting this location in the calm of the summer for breakfast and beignets! 3.5/5 read more
