Thank you to Don for being so friendly and helpful. I met Don while walking a friends dog. This pup clearly 'knew' this shop and just ran right in with me in tow! After chatting with Don for a bit, and him giving the pup a treat, we began to discuss the Providence Jewelry District of the past. You know, the one where there were a bunch of jewelry companies in downtown? Anyway. This reminded me that I have a sentimental ring that no longer fits me and Don offered to take a look and see if he can resize it for me. Next trip into the city, I brought along the ring and Don got to work. Sadly for me, the type of ring it is does not allow for him to resize it without dramatically changing the appearance. Well, now I know. I appreciate his efforts, honesty and integrity. He shined up the ring before returning it to me as well. Excellent experience with the jewelry repair service. I had purchased a mother of pearl in sterling silver pendant on a recent trip to New Orleans and was not happy the mother of pearl fell out of its setting after just a few months of wear. I brought the pendant, plus a ring that needed the setting tightened and and sterling chain with some minor damage here for repairs. The owner turned the items around in less than a day and the prices for the repairs were quite reasonable. He even returned the items sparking clean! I asked for a price and time estimate, and he had neither since metal prices are by market, so that didn't bother me. I dropped it off on a Monday evening and it was ready on Friday, which is WAY faster than I anticipated. (A big name jewelry store sized it once. It literally cost 4x as much there and took 4 weeks. Don is a magician of a Craftsman and a joy to work with. I broke my glasses frame the day I was flying out and had 0 backups - lesson learned. I called around to optical stores in Providence but none were willing to fix it. I then called up Copacetic Rudely Elegant and Don said he'd give it a shot. In an hour and a half my glasses were soldered together tightly and probably stronger than before. Don provides fantastic glasses repair work in an outstanding time. I'll be honest; I don't remember the name of the guy I spoke to today because I've been in such a hurricane of events over the past few weeks. What I do remember (hopefully. I'm young) is that I dropped off a PRECIOUS ring at this shop at 11:45AM and got a call back at 4:30PM saying it was finished. Granted, it wasn't the most complicated feat, but it did require a lot of touch. It was cheap, it was done well, my ring came back beautifully and polished and the man I spoke to was so kind with me and was very transparent about the kind of work it would require and the risks. Again, I gott the ring back and it was immaculate, he told me everything he did and told me what to do if I continued to have issues. My biggest worries with getting services done in industries I have NO idea about is that I'll get lied top and not know it, but the proprietor here seems to be so transparent, it was very comforting. I highly recommend going to Don! I have been there twice and each time it's been amazing service. First time I brought in my boyfriend's bracelet that needed a new clasp. I can't remember the turn around but I want to say it was no more than 2 days. The bracelet looked brand new!! I didn't even ask for it to be cleaned- added bonus. Then I brought my boyfriend's broken watch that has a dead battery. Don said it would be challenging like putting the pieces together of a puzzle but he was able to fix it!! AND I went a few days before Christmas so I wasn't expecting to get it anytime soon BUT I was able to pick it to the next day. This place is tucked away on Peck St in Providence which is across from the arcade. The owner has a really cool eclectic collection of jewelry from various artists, with a wide array of prices. I went in looking to have a necklace made from a shell I found. He was able to drill a hole in it without cracking it and made it into a lovely necklace, within a day, and very inexpensive. To my surprise, the owner stopped what he was doing, did a quick diagnosis, fixed it while I was there in less than 10 minutes, and did not charge me for his expert work. My watch is a bit tricky as it's wood so he had me come back in a couple of hours for it so that he could take his time with it - which I appreciated. I got engaged Friday (yay!) but my engagement ring was about 1/2 size too big. I called around to about 6-7 jewelry stores in the Providence area, but they all said it would take about 2 weeks, were very unhelpful, or had no idea how long it would take. I called Copacetic, and the man who answered was VERY friendly. He told me to come right over and he would see what he could do. I dropped it off at noon and it was done TWO HOURS LATER. SO FAST! He was very nice and explained the process to me. I was a little worried about dropping off my diamond to a place I didnt know, but I felt immediately comfortable there. I even went back after about an hour to have it made slightly larger again, and he was totally nice about it and did it right then. I would definitely recommend this place, and it was less than $30! As I begin to develop a jewelry collection I try to purchase pieces that have stories behind them, such as supporting local RISD grads, rather than get something mass produced. Copacetic could have fit the bill for me, but the jewelry is far from memorable. I would disagree with the tagline "rudely elegant jewelry". Don't get me wrong, I love unique, one-of-a-kind finds, but Copacetic falls flat. It feels like a place that's stuck in the early 90s, ridiculous clocks on the walls included. It's a shame that a small business like Copacetic can't appeal more to young professionals. read more

The owner was really cool. I got this fun space age looking watch. They definatly have some odd and weird things that i'm sure are hard to come by (and i live in NYC).The watch i got was from Tokyo Flash...a brand i had never heard of and with further research is a lot more expensive than what he sold it to me for. There was an issue with the battery in the watch so i brough it back the next day and he gave me a brand new one to replace it. The new one works perfectly. He also gave me (YES GAVE ME) a watch of similar design because it had a chip in it and he was able to sell it. which was very cool. I saw a few pairs of cool earnings that i liked. They had a lot of really cool clocks all priced very fairly. He also told me that a lot of items come from local designers which is really cool. My fiancé and I were in a pickle...we needed my antique engagement ring significantly sized down and only had a few days before leaving town to see family. Yikes! Well, Don came to our rescue! I went in around a quarter til 5 on a Thursday and, less than two hours later, he had not only sized the ring PERFECTLY, but had also fixed up a very intricate band that belonged to my fiancé's grandmother. Copacetic is one of Providence's last remaining fine jewels. It's located on the 3rd floor of The Arcade, the oldest mall in America! The Arcade itself is a work of art built in the 1800's and Copacetic has been the only business there for over 20 years. I go in every once in a while when I'm downtown and always find something new and different that I can't live without! They carry works by local artists like RISD students and by famous artist like Sorrelli and Ed Levin.
