I have been a long time customer of Coppelia. It has always had delicious food, fantastic drinks and a fun atmosphere. It can get pretty busy at times. Just after the pandemic, the food could be hit or miss. But, when I went today it was fantastic and back to its normal self! We got the nachos which are always very special there and we also got the octopus/ chorizo sandwich which was fantastic. I went to Coppelia for dinner and ordered the Pepito Sandwich. I couldn't really taste the bacon in the sandwich, but the steak pieces were cooked well and went really well with the Gouda cheese and corn. There were also supposedly shoestring potatoes in the sandwich, but I didn't really notice those either. In addition, the sandwich bread was flattened and hardened in a way that made it impossible to eat the sandwich in the normal sandwich style, so I had to resort to using a fork and knife. Nevertheless, this was a very tasty sandwich. For $11, it was a pretty good deal. The atmosphere at Coppelia is very lively from the music and people in the restaurant. There is a bar, as well as normal table seating. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The service speed was decent. Coppelia is actually open 24 hours, so it can be enjoyed at any hour. Again a very long wait until we had to get up and ask someone if we could get our drinks ..... one of the items ordered were peanut butter and jelly waffles that was supongo have banana cream on it ... when we asked someone the waiter came back and we told him this is missing the banana cream and a few min later they brought extra peanut butter and jelly and just put it on the table and walked away, I am so disappointed because I recommended this place and it definitely did not live up to my expectations... I came with a friend for lunch on Saturday around 2 PM and the place was packed. Thankfully there were 2 spots available at the bar so we were able to sit there right away instead of waiting in line. I wasn't too fond of the drink I had ordered and didn't touch it for the entire meal therefore when the bartender saw he graciously took it off our tab which was super nice of him. For food we settled for: --CHIPS AND GUACAMOLE: The guac was yummy, great flavor that really mixed well with the tortilla chips. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the plantains or boniatos but my friend really like them. --CUBAN SANDWICH: The cubano sandwich was absolutely delicious - a must get for sure. Great flavorful and juicy meat that mixes well with the sauce, cheese and pickles. --3 FISH TACOS : I love fish tacos and feel that I get them at every restaurant I get but personally for me these were just mediocre. The fish was very well fried but the composition of it with guac and the cole slaw was a bit strange. The guac again was great flavor but having cole slaw right above both of those items just did not taste right to me. Long overdue update. Opinion-there is nothing not to like about Coppelia. From the outside, it appears to be a diner, but it's not your ordinary diner. Coppelia is a diner with Cuban flavor and although I have only eaten here a couple times for brunch/breakfast, I really love the vibe, energy, décor, friendly waitstaff and food! My recent visits allowed me to select from their breakfast/brunch category. First time I tried the delicious 2 eggs any style --served with Cuban toast and home fries. I was very satisfied by the quality of food, portion and price point ($9.95). Hit all the right notes. I dropped in yesterday and was craving eggs again since it was late breakfast/early lunch time. (BTW, breakfast is served all day and the diner is open 24 hours). I was torn between a few options but ultimately went with the Tacos Heuvos which was two eggs scrambled, Monterey jack cheese, bacon and pico de gallo. I asked for the bacon to be eliminated. No problem. Minutes later, 2 soft tacos arrived, delicious and satisfying (although not a huge portion, but fine for me). A previous Yelp check in offered a perk of either a free iced tea or soft drink so I was able to redeem it for a diet coke. Neighboring tables were being served colorful cocktails (they have a full bar) and some interesting main dishes such as Arroz con Pollo. I have my eye on the veggie burger for next time and instead of ordering regular fries, I'll go with Yuca fries. Their main entrees seem to average around $20--quite reasonable. Coppelia continues to be a home run for me and I'm eager to return and order real food next time, including a cocktail (Mojito please!). If you crave a diner with Latin flavor (and food), good service, great food and ambiance salsa your way to Coppelia. I guarantee you'll be happy you did. read more

My boyfriend and I arrived at Coppelia around 4:15 pm on a Saturday, when the restaurant was only moderately filled. Given the alleged popularity of this place, we had been prepared to wait, and therefore found this surprising. After a few minutes of waiting inside by the door, the host noticed us and asked whether or not we wanted to sit in the front alcove of the restaurant by the windows, right by the door that was only concealed from the cold by a flimsy curtain. It should be noted that the outside temperature was ~30 degrees F at the time. In the five seconds that we showed brief hesitation about whether we wanted to sit near the window or instead sit at a table farther inside, we were greeted with a shooing hand motion by the host, as if to hurry up and sit down. Quite rude, since it was not as if there were tons of other patrons clamoring to sit down, but I thought ok, maybe it was just the host who had a bad attitude. We felt we had to choose the table by the window. Then after taking our seats by the window, we realized it was much colder than we would have expected- even wearing jackets and coats. A pair of ladies who had also just sat down by the windows asked to move to a different table away from the entrance and were cordially escorted to a new table. However, when I asked our waiter if it was possible for us to move to a different table away from the window, I was met with an incredibly rude, "didn't you talk to him (the host) about it?". I was actually shocked at such a reply-which was a completely unacceptable way to speak to a customer, especially after that customer made a more than reasonable polite request. I responded that we had only just sat down- not sure why this simple question, with an even simpler solution, was met with so much aggression. Recall that there were many vacant tables in the rest of the restaurant at this time. It is possible that the waiter realized how rude his response was, because he then motioned to the host to let us move to another table. After the host rolled his eyes in response to this request, we promptly got up and left the restaurant. That was the final straw. As an NYC native, I have dined at many places in the city, and have never been treated with such rudeness and nasty attitude as at Coppelia. What a shame, because we were really looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, given what I experienced, Coppelia will never earn my patronage nor would I ever recommend it to anyone else. read more

A little taste of Miami in NYC. This Cuban style diner hits the spot. Come here to get a churrasco steak covered in chimmichuri sauce atop a bed of rice, beans and platanos. The steak was cooked perfectly!! It even came with a little Brussel sprout salad and some cojito cheese. Make sure to ask for the avocado sauce on the side, you won't regret ir!! I really hope the staff is paid extra to deal with all those NYE drunks :) Second, it is a haven if you are craving good Cuban cuisine. What to order: well, everything under the sun. We walked in without a reservation but were seated immediately on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was more than half full. The music was pretty loud and the space is on the dark side. Everyone seemed like they were having a great time! I ordered the Cubano and a sangria blanca. Yes. The food was excellent. This is one of my favorite sandwiches and they did themselves proud. It was freshly prepared, warm and had excellent bread. The sangria was light and refreshing. The service was a bit slow but we chalked it up to them being short staffed. Very good Cuban food available here. We went after work one day and there was no line. The ambience was good and our server was very fast and friendly. He gave several recommendations that we ended up taking which turned out very well. For drinks I got a gran paloma and my friend got the non alcoholic version of a different cocktail. They both tasted pretty fruity. I had asked to be recommended a sweet cocktail and the paloma definitely fit the bill. For food, we ordered two appetizers, the Gamabas Al Ajillo and another one I forgot the name of (a flat bread cake with filling). Both were delicious, though I'm not sure if I would get either again. For the entrees, we got the most popular items on the menu, the Lomo Saltado and Churrasco. I personally preferred the Churrasco, but both were very flavorful and the meat was very well prepared (despite the my friend asking for his steak to be well done). For value, I don't think it's that great. It's pretty pricey even though the food tasted good.
