We called afterwards to notify them that the food they served had a possible contamination, so that no other customers would have a similar experience with the food we ordered that day. Instead of being appreciative for our call, the manager was defensive, unprofessional and rude. It was obvious that they don't care about the well-being of their customers. He denied that the food caused us to be sick, proceeding to blame it on nonexistent food allergies or "something else"...even though we got sick ONLY after eating here, having not eaten anything that day prior and following our meal at Coppelia. A 24 hour place to get nachos! We ordered the beef short rib nachos, which came adorned with nacho cheese sauce, guacamole, refried black beans, sour cream, and salsa. I'm not sure how they got the smoky flavor in it but those were tasty. We got guacamole and it comes with tortilla,sweet potato and plantain chips. Guacamole could have been fresher but on a Sunday night in a 24hr restaurant I guess it was made earlier for the brunch service. I had Salmon and purple mashed potatoes as main course. The salmon is fine, I recommend getting it medium rare. The purple mashed potatoes are glutinous so I'd get a side to go with it next time. They have nice sides of yuca fries, sweet potatoes fries , maduros or rice and beans or others for $5 . Get a couple for the table with your mains .My friend got the house Burger with sweet potato fries. They'll bring a caddy of sauces out if you ask . That burger is a lot to eat and a bit messy!. So be warned - you may have to deconstruct it . But my friend finished it and liked it. For drinks we got the Margarita Cubano which is delicious with tamarind puree and tangy salt rim . Get this. My friend had the Hemingway Royal with rum Bacardi and ginger syrup and Cava. He liked it but I thought it was more a Summer drink being light and refreshing. Next round I got Atrevido which is really smoky mezcal with pineapple and strawberry puree. Be warned - it's very smoky so if that's your thing you'll like it. My friend got Guarapita with rum, passion fruit, strawberry and cucumber and this was delightful. Get one. Get Tres Leches cake for dessert in a little glass , it has a nice cinnamon flavor and cream. Ask to sit in the back in a booth if you can. Came on a Saturday night around 9pm and was seated immediately at a booth. Ordered the cubano sandwich which was much larger than expected. Added on the yucca fries for extra. The pork meat was a lot drier than I expected, which should have been the highlight of the sandwich. Hefty amount of meat. Pickle was refreshing in-between bites. The yucca fries are quite fat and tastes great with the included sauce. It was plenty of food for dinner. Most of the dishes here aren't actually Cuban, but more like Latin American. They have a very strong busser/runner staff. Our server was great too. Even though it was apparent that he was very tired and has probably been working all day, his attitude was still very positive. The food was great as always! The Arroz Con Pollo was a tad bit undercooked but everything else was so delicious! The oxtail empanadas isn't an actual empanada but it's still damn good. Margaritas were terrible and each order was different from the last. Bartender inconsistent. Service bad. This is a small space trendy crowd bearing place. They are open 24 hours which is awesome for its location. They serve a variety of tapa type meals and great breakfast options. We had their oxtail empanadas which had this awesome sweet plantain dough. However, not enough filling to distract from the sweetness. Corn and cheese empanadas were literally just that. Chicharron mac and cheese was terrible. Like the powdered cheese type mac sprinkled with store bought cracklings. Disappointing to say the least. We didn't try any entrees but the wait staff was attentive despite their obvious busy work. I hid my water refilled like 12 times without asking which is great because I miss NYC water lol I will give this place another try and will opt for an entree. Heard a lot about this place and want it to give it a try, as you arrived someone great you at the door, we didn't wait much to be seated, our waitress took an order, we order an oxtail empanada and 2 orders of salmon on a bed of sweet potatoes, we also ordered 2 cocktails: Paloma, I asked the waitress if we could get mezcal instead of tequila ,I also asked what mezcal was used for the house, he said Vida Mezcal, I asked about other options on brands and I asked him to use Montelobos instead. We had our dinner and when we asked for the check, the Paloma's were $28.00 each, but the price at the menu was $15.00, almost double the price to get the mezcal I preferred? I asked the server about the prices, and he directed me to his manager on site, Luis. As soon as Luis approached to our table with an attitude as I questioned him about the prices, that we were excessively overcharged and his answer was, that's the prices we have as Montelobos is a higher quality then vida mezcal and the wholesale cost is higher, his non professionalism on how to handle the situation, it's what takes places to Coppelia to make new customers never come back again. read more

My boyfriend and I came here last Friday night for a late dinner after a 4 hour drive. I found this place very last minute because it's open 24 hours a day. Most restaurants in the city close their kitchens at 11:30pm and we got there past midnight. As usual, parking in NYC is a hassle but this place is worth the walk. There is construction happening in front of it so it might be easy to miss. First we started with Chicken nachos as an appetizer (11/10) I also had a mango mojito and passion fruit margarita (10/10) My boyfriend had a regular passion fruit which was also delicious and the real deal. I ordered the Arepa "Llanera" with yucca fries as my entree, however, I'll be completely honest with this one and give it a 5/10. I absolutely love Venezuelan Arepas, and ultimately my expectations were pretty high since they also had reina papiada in the menu. I should have followed my gut and go with a steak dish because that steak from the arepa was good. The arepa was just very blah. It had couple steak pieces, a piece of tomato, cold cheese and piece of lettuce. My boyfriend ordered the churrasco plate and it was a (10/10) The sides were moro de habichuelas negra, salad and maduros. The serving was big so he did share some with me :) and that's the reason why my rating is 5 stars on Yelp LOL. For dessert, we shared a nutella mousse cake and it was a delicious (10/10) I'm glad I found this place on yelp! It's a cute small place. Great vibes. There's breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and so much on their menu. It's a nice place to go on a date, go out with your family, hang out with your friends or go on a solo date. I took my elderly parents for dinner a few weeks ago. The service its is not up to par. The waitress serving us, was too busy chatting with the other employees to notice when we were calling for her. After we placed our order she sat down at the counter to eat. I imagine this was her break. No one else came to our table while she was on break. The food also was not up to par. One dish was good. The roast pork and yucca was lousy. I then proceeded to order a single piece of grilled flank steak in lieu of the pork and yucca. They advised me they could not sell it to me unless they charge for the entire plate. I reluctantly ordered it because I was hungry since I did not eat what I originally order (roast pork yucca). Good for small groups. I tried to come once on a Friday night with a huge group and we gave up quickly. But I came back on a Thursday with a party of three and we were seated right away. The drinks were great but not too strong. I got a few appetizers and samples my friends' entrees. The Mac and chicharron was definitely a highlight for me. It was spicy, creamy, and the chicharron gave it a wonderful texture and flavor. The frito de mar was ok. Not bad, but maybe a bit over-battered. Based on other pictures I don't think this is the usual. I would order it again and give it a second chance. The rabo encendido (braised oxtail) was fall off the bone tender and very flavorful. The churrasco was bomb. We ordered it medium and I think maybe it was bit more medium well but I wasn't mad at it. Next time I will probably order this for myself. First and foremost this is not a review on the food. No issue with the food. It's still pretty good. However, not good enough to ignore the service I got tonight. I went to dinner w/ my aunt tonight and we came here. I thought no biggie I've always left happy. Not so much tonight.... so let me just list the ways: 1. Before we could truly sit down, we were asked did we know what wanted to order. Dude can I get my coat off?!? I just thought maybe he saw the hungry look on our faces...so I let that slide. 2. When my aunt was ordering her grilled chicken sandwich, he asked if she wanted fries with that. She couldn't hear him, so I said it comes with fries or maduro. He corrected me saying that it doesn't come with that it's extra. I said yes I know that I was actually going to say that next. He just looked at me like whatever. I ordered the steak sandwich with a side of Brussel sprouts. He said to me you know that's not a part of the deluxe. My response was yes, I know. That's why I asked for a side of Brussel sprouts. He then said well I was just telling you because you would get mad at me when the bill comes. UMMMMM, ARE YOU SERIOUS IS what I wanted to say. However, I responded by saying why would I be when I clearly see that it's a side. 3. After that he and the manager (I'm guessing) began to hover over our table. It was getting crowded. I get it, it's Saturday night and people come out and you don't want the wait to be too crazy, but I don't think you should let your guests know that you want to hurry and flip the table. We didn't finish our meal so we wanted to wrap it up. My aunt wanted coffee and to see the dessert menu. When we asked for it he rolled his eyes. That's when my attitude completely shifted. I went from trying to be cool and calm to I will sit her for 5hrs drinking water and eating bread just to piss you off. We ordered coffee. When I asked for decaf he said there are no refills with decaf. I said okay, but I still want it. He's response was I'm just telling you just in case you want another. My response was if I want another I will order just that. DUDE....WHAT THE... 4. When he arrived with the coffee he also gave us our check. My aunt said I guess he wants us out. I said he does,but you better sip on that coffee like we have nothing better to do. He came by 3 times for that check before I would let us pay. DON'T you rush me. 5. When we finally left and were outside the table across from us were outside as well. I went to them and asked did they feel rushed? They responded that they were just talking about that and couldn't believe how rude their (our) waiter was. I felt relieved that I in fact wasn't crazy. They were telling us of a Cuban spot in Queens to go to (J we must check it out). I went to bookmark it in Yelp (aaaaaooooowwww) and realized I didn't have my phone. I left it in the restaurant. 6. I go back in and I don't see the waiter, but I see the busboy and ask if they found a phone. He said no, but do you see your waiter. I looked around and finally saw him next to the manager. I went up to him and said excuse me did you find a phone. He rolled his eyes and said I don't have it. MOTHERF...... DID I SAY YOU HAD THE PHONE?!?!?! Again my brain spoke, but I said I didn't ask if you had my phone I asked if you found one. I just turned around and went back to the table. There my phone was on the seat. I took it and as I was leaving the manager said we found your scarf. I said I wasn't looking for a scarf. I was looking for my phone. His response was well we didn't take your phone. I turned around and said clearly you weren't listening to me I asked if you found a phone, not did you take it. No worries I found my phone. And I walked out. So it's is safe to say I will NOT be going back there. Paying customers should never feel like they are being rushed or given an attitude. Go at your own risk. There are far too many places in the city that have great customer service that matches the food. read more

If you didn't know it's a Cuban diner with a great vibe; loud Spanish music, fun cocktails, good service, and of course Cuban food. We started off with some chips and guac, which was fresh, mild, and tasty, not spicy, it was a hit. For the entree, I went with the classic Cuban sandwich, which I was pleased with. It was a large sandwich that came out of the kitchen nice and hot, everything was melted and seasoned well. The pork was not too dry. As soon as I walked into this place I was taken by the ambiance. The small hallway like dining area was just perfect for a date night. I loved coming here with my friend. We sat down and our waters were promptly served. The menu section was great and all of them seemed significantly filling and satisfying. When we received our starters (fairly quickly) the aroma and the presentation was immediately welcoming my knife and fork! We got the fish tacos and the guacamole with plantain and tortilla chips. The fish was perfectly seasoned and very tender and the guacamole was clearly made within the hour. After the meal I ordered an espresso and it was amazing! My boyfriend has been wanting to come to this place for a while so we decided to give it a shot last night. I wasn't impressed. I was expecting Cuban food but it was nothing like I thought it would be. We shared the mac chicharrón for an app and it tasted like boxed Mac n cheese. I got the camarones Cienfuegos with rice and beans. The rice was extremely hard (nothing like Cuban rice) and the shrimp werent even cleaned out which was gross. The only thing I did enjoy was my capirinah drink. The manager was very welcoming and friendly, but the staff could be a little more attentive. After we got our food they never came back to check on us, but they were also a little busy so I'll assume that's why. This Place is open 24 hours so it's a cool place to go after a night out on the town. But if you're coming for some authentic food, this isn't your place. read more

This place is open 24/7!!!! That's the first good thing about it. Secondly, the drinks are strong. Of course comes with NYC prices but you get your moneys worth drink wise so I have no complaints. I see other folks used this as a factor in their rating. I ordered a pitcher of sangria for $36, its a good deal as other places want $40 and up. The sangria was definitely strong and very well made. The vibe is more of a diner setting. Its comfortable, low lighting and very relaxing. When I was there it was super busy but they had enough staff on hand that we never were left waiting for service. I ordered the mac with chrurrasco was so delicious. I wish the plate would be bigger only because i wanted more!!!! For entrees ordered the lomo saltado was filling and the meat super juicy and flavorful. I wanted seconds!!! Also, got the trio tacos with beef. We asked for pico de gallo on the side and no onions and they complied with the request to the letter. Many places choose to ignore when we ask them not to include onions in dishes that come with. I found that service was on point and they didnt disappoint, followed instructions clearly. They do offer happy hour with $6/$7 drinks (half price) until 7PM. We have been longtime fans of this place and order takeout frequently - like we did last night thru here around 530pm, and we usualky order their cuban sandwiches because they have been usually great Not sure if their chef has changed, but last night i bit into my cuban sandwich and into a hard round object as in attached pictures - both sides of object - about an inch long and 1/2 inch wide and solid bone - that aside from making me sick to my stomach with a direct trip to the bathroom - also hurt the tooth i bit into it with. This is too big of an object for anyone to have missed - you would have felt it when you pressed the sandwich. This is not accepatable even from a place we have loved and always tip for takeout as we if we were eating in the restaurant.
