I was scolded by the manager for peering, just peering, into the office to catch a glimpse of their cat who was referred to us by the Sebastopol bookstore employee. But, we did purchase a book at a good price and the cashier was friendly. So, the Sebastopol store is larger and friendlier. No cat. The Healdsburg store is smaller, less friendly, at least the management, and has a cat but is virtually not there. I recommend Sebastopol. read more

I've been to other locations, but this was my first time at the Healdsburg location of Copperfield's. My husband, daughter, and I each found some great books to add to our "to read" stack of books, and all for very fair prices. Right in the lovely downtown area of beautiful Healdsburg. If you love shop cats, this is the place for you. There are two absolutely cute shop cats here. We needed a place to pass the time before our tasting in town and decided to enjoy the charm of a bookstore. The two cats were a delightful surprise. I loved how this bookstore was organized. With different book recommendations and notes from the employees on display. They also had an incredible supply of charming gifts. I had been searching for a journal on my trip and found the cutest floral cat journal. I also came across some MadLibs books which felt like such a throwback to my childhood. I purchased it for fun since it was a great price. Besides books, they also had candles, Jellycats, toys, and more. Since my TBR books stand is full, I decided to pass on purchasing any books, but would've in a heartbeat. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful bookstore. read more

Love our local bookstores and we're fortunate to have two in Healdsburg, both on the Plaza! Copperfields is independently owned with 10 (I think) locations around the North Bay. This store is on the smaller side but it's bright and inviting and full of books and other gifty-type goodies (note cards, games, toys, tote bags...). I've called before to see if they have a book in stock, and if they don't, they can usually source it from one of their other locations in a short turnaround time. I stopped in recently, to look at games, and came home with this adorable bear hat for my friend's baby (whose nickname is Bear). If you're in town, definitely check them out. read more

I love that I can come to Healdsburg and spend 2 to 3 hours in this book store just looking through everything before making the selection. I am so glad I decided to take a walk downtown. This bookshop was adorable and fully stocked. The two employees working were amiable and offered assistance. I bought three books for my baby niece, and she LOVED them. As I was paying, a few customers came in and were impressed that they had a book that had just been released or was about to be released. Seeing the excitement in their faces was refreshing. I'm glad bookstores like these are still around. read more

Cute from the outside, but somewhat disappointing selection. The store feels like a Barnes & Noble in that there's a lot of space for cute displays and giftable items, but without the capacity for a lot of actual books it falls flat. The selection just feels lackluster overall, since they aren't stocking a number of popular new books, but they don't have used stock to pad the inventory. Not sure if they are understaffed but I felt like they could've offered help or been more friendly overall. I walked in fully intending to pick up a stack of books and have to limit myself, but ended up leaving without seeing anything worth buying...a first :/ Maybe it's better for children's books. read more

For having a children's section here they are extremely unwelcome towards children. My 4 year old had taken a pile of maybe 7 books (what young child doesn't ??) and the lady who worked there reprimanded me for letting her do that coming up to me to say "your daughter has made quite the pile" When I tried to use it as a teachable moment to tell my daughter to take one book at a time, the lady interrupted me saying "well, she's just a baby". When i tried to help put the books back in the stand the lady then reprimanded how I was putting them back and that she wouldn't have told me to if I wasn't going to put it back any better than my child. Insert mind blown emoji . I have never felt more mortified about being a mother than I had at the bookstore and shouldn't have been. My daughter wasn't screaming or making a mess, she simply made a pile of books she wanted to read and if an adult had made a similar pile they wouldn't have been treated the same. This was clearly a lady that had no personal experience with children and should not be working in a bookstore that had a kids' section. Good thing there's another bookstore in the plaza ! read more

It is not every town the size of Healdsburg that can support two bookstores on the town square. I guess tourists like books, greeting cards, and small gift items. Include me in that category. Cooperfield's has relocated a door or two down since my last visit to Healdsburg a year ago. It seems somewhat smaller and a little crowded. While I had limited time for browsing before the store closed, I was happy to find a paperback that looked intriguing, plus a birthday gift for a friend. Cooperfield's is a small chain and has a better vibe than the larger chains like Barnes & Noble or Half Price Books. Wish there were a Cooperfield's in the East Bay. read more

Went in to make purchases as gifts for my sons birthday. Bought 4 items and I asked to have them wrapped. I waited patiently for the two women in front of me to have all their gifts wrapped. I then paid and waited as three more customers were taken before me so I could then have 2/4 gifts wrapped. I was told to wait as another four customers were taken to then be told she didn't want to keep up the line therefor my last two gifts weren't wrapped. I patiently waited with kindness as everyone was taken before me , why couldn't I be shown the same courtesy? I love Copperfield's and I love to shop local, but I won't be back to this location. read more

I'm a sucker for bookstores in general but Copperfield's is actually pretty great and diverse in selection. I find books here that I can't find at larger chains, like Barnes and Noble. Specifically I've been on the hunt for unique bartending books and all of my best books are from Copperfields. I walked in the other day thinking it'd be a slim chance they have a book- let alone two- on JUST Amaros but lo and behold they sure did! I bought those books in a heart beat. I love the atmosphere, the layout, the store cat and the little doo-dad gifts they have. Things you'd never think to get for someone until you see it. This is a fantastic bookstore! I can't pass up visiting a bookstore, especially when there are carts outside with books that are on sale - "if these awesome books are on sale, just imagine what's waiting for me inside!" I could spend hours at Copperfield's. The store is intuitively organized, with a very cute children's area in the very back. There are tables with the requisite bestsellers and additional books for sale, and all of the other fun book-lover accoutrements. read more

The rudest girl working there today barked at me twice about keeping my mask on? At no time did I take my mask off or have it below my nose. I pulled it from my mouth so I could breathe at one point and was beyond shocked at her lack of unprofessional behavior! Ironically I do know everything about mask mandates and the proper way to wear one. When the power went out and I asked if they had called to find out what the estimated time of power restoration would be, the other sales girl said she had more important things to deal with! Interesting place. On the one hand they have tons of magazines like Guns "N" Ammo and Weed monthly, on the other no magazines about building your own PC nor any on video games. When asked why the cashier had zero idea. Informed staff I see... A random cat and dog also call the place Home. Cute enough with hardwood floors but lacking in any true diversity of selection. Copperfield's is a gem of a bookstore. They have one of the hugest magazine sections I've ever seen. Really great selection of every topic of book you can imagine and often times the paperbacks have 2-fer deals. At the back of the store is a cafe that offers delicious Italian food which can be eaten indoors or in the outdoor garden space. How nice! If I'm away for a weekend in Healdsburg, this is the place for me to while away some time and stock up on good reading material. read more

What a great bookstore in the center of Healdsburg! The thing that caught my eye was the table of discounted books outside. There were a lot of really interesting titles and had my luggage not already weighed close to the 50 pound limit, I probably would have bought some. Instead, I went inside to purchase a book that I had on my to-read list. The books in this store are laid out with plenty of space, and there's an entire room dedicated to even more discounted reads. The delicious smell wafting through the place comes from the pizza restaurant in the back. Try to deny that intoxicating scent as you browse the paperbacks and other cute gifts. read more

Copperfield's is a wonderful local book chain. While Waldenbooks and Borders have gone under in the North Bay, Copperfield's has survived. They're a great place to hang out, they have couches... and in this case, a deli. Copperfield's has a great sale section. I was able to get Sofia Tolstoy's diaries (fitting here in the Russian River, and nearby Fort Ross was founded in 1812, the same year as Napoleon's defeat at Borodino&the burning of Moscow) for a great price. The service is friendly. It's busy on Labor Day weekend. I will definitely return! Read and enjoy. read more

Went in here on New Year's Eve afternoon to browse for books and also in search of a Kindle charger. After wandering around for a while, we noticed the woman at the cash register was free--and no other customer in the store--we asked her if they had any chargers, to which she said no. We then asked if she had any ideas or could recommend any places in Healdsburg that might carry them, to which she also replied "nope." Her attitude was not great: surly, curt, and uncivilized. It was not that she couldn't help us ... lots of times we inquire about something of someone and they're not able to help, which is totally fine--but if their attitude is positive or they try out they're gracious or something anything good whatever... we're happy to have this human bit of interaction especially at a time when everyone's faces are covered with masks. This woman just didn't care to do any these things--thought cannot assign her introns or motivations, she perhaps simply did not want to be there. Or something else was going on with her, maybe bad day, whatever. But after all, this is her job for which she's being paid--if not actively to be helpful, to at least feign the willingness to be so. But apparently even acting 'as if' was too much trouble for her. We left the shop with a bitter type cloud ... while it'sa very quaint little shop, especially for Luddites in this age, the customer service we got was non existent. Really bad--and I try not to give poor ratings on Yelp because I know how much it can hurt a business. But they need to know that something's not right: either they need to train their personnel better or have more supervision or something's gotta give. Btw, if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic, I'd give one star. read more

A wonderful local book store in the heart of Healdsburg. Very spacious with a lot to offer. I was looking specifically for a travel journal when I came here in and hadn't quite found "the one" at other shops around the plaza, but found something funky and unique the minute I walked into Copperfield's. I was also deeply appreciative of the gigantic Sale section in the second half of the store. Picked up a copy of a great Jasper Fforde book for $6! Score! Copperfield's also has a full deli in the back, as well. I just felt a bit stupid when I tried to pay for my books at the deli counter... maybe I'm blind but I kind of wish there was some signage about that so I didn't look like a complete idiot. Still, they were very nice about letting my boyfriend use their bathroom! I'd definitely come back and browse on my next trip to town. read more
