Visited Charlotte to see soccer god Messi and Inter Miami play Charlotte FC in final match of regular season, and lucky us -- had brunch at Coquette, in the museum district of Uptown. First, the restaurant itself is AMAZING, from the lovely decor to the wonderful staff. Our server (Amelia) took excellent care of us, managing to be attentive even though they were super-busy. And the FOOD! Everything was absolutely delicious, from the charcuterie to the salad to the steak sandwich to the french toast to the interesting cocktails. Even the fries were perfect! One cannot go wrong ordering from their menu, which changes seasonally. And then we ordered the crepe soufflé (HIGHLY recommend), not knowing it would be brought to our table by chef Cristian Medrano - what a thrill! The soufflé was light and fluffy, but also flaky, crispy - and SO tasty. Perfect ending to brunch, with coffee. Next time we are in Charlotte, we are DEFINITELY dining at Coquette! read more

Came here with friends on a weeknight! Recommend making a reservation in advance since it gets pretty crowded. We ate family style, and my favorite dishes were the potato beignets and the chocolate bouchon dessert. Also the wine we ordered was expensive but delicious (Hautes Côte De Nuits, "les Renardes" Burgundy, 2021). Atmosphere and service was 10/10. Ooo la la! Coquette is a wonderful addition to Uptown. As a self-proclaimed amateur Francophile, I was already getting excited when I saw the signage go up weeks ago. It is so beautifully appointed inside! Pics don't really do it justice. The atmosphere and menu are authentically French. We were even greeted with a cheery "Bon Jour!" from the hostess as we walked in. Great service. The manager even offered to move us to a "better" table, although there doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the place. Must trys: The duck fat fried chicken is as tasty as the name suggests. You get a whole half chicken which I promise is enough to share (though you may not want to!) It was impossibly crispy, so juicy, and flavorful from the Herbs de Provence--the rosemary, thyme, and oregano really come through. I think all chicken should be prepared this way going forward! Lol. TIP: Add a sprinkle of sea salt (readily available in marble ramekins on each table) to the top of the chicken for a perfect finishing touch. The French potato salad with haricot vert was pleasantly chunky and bright. The aioli was appreciably garlicky and mustardy. Brunch isn't brunch without a touch of sweetness IMO, so we opted for the creme brûlée French toast with apple butter, roasted apples, maple syrup, and meringue. Truly delightful. Perfectly sweet & indulgent; nice crust on the outside of the toast and tender inside. #chefskiss I really wanted to try the omelette à la Francaise with herb & garlic butter and fines herbes because of a similar dish I had at a small bistro in Paris. (It is still the simplest and best omelette I've had to date. So good, in fact, that I went back for it the very next day!) Coquette is simply AMAZING & I'm thrilled to have experienced this addition to Charlotte's culinary scene! First, they nailed the theme. Softly playing French music beckons you from the sidewalk patio while beautiful lights and decor guide you, and serve as a delightful backdrop, for, an enticing (and seasonal, we learned!) menu. The menu appears designed to meet the needs of a variety of palates, offering equally impressive salad, seafood, meat-based, & off the beaten path (hello escargot!) options. I enjoyed the brightest, most citrusy (& therefore enticing!) French 75 that I can recall having, before moving into a shared escargot & potato beignet appetizer (beignet is now my preferred potato format, lol) and the duck fat fried chicken entree. The entree name says it all--perfectly crisp, wonderfully decadent, expertly seasoned chicken (and lots of it!) balanced with a bright, herbaceous potato salad. As the pictures suggest, this meal will absolutely require a to-go box or someone to share with. I took the first option & used my remaining (and limited, lol) capacity to split an apple tart with my dining partner. The tart is a movement by itself--buttery & flaky with the right touch of sweetness from the tender apples--but that rosemary ice cream makes it a FORCE when they're together. Absolutely phenomenal! Had a business lunch here and I along with every single one of my colleagues loved it. The atmosphere and the decor was so beautiful. I ordered the Le Mans cocktail to start which was fantastic. The table ordered the Tarte Aux Champignons, Tarte a l'Oignon Caramélisé, Saumon Fumé, and the Crème Brulée Frecnh toast. The flavor in each dish was amazing. My favorite was the Tarte Aux Champignons or, mushroom tart. For my entree I ordered the steak sandwich. It wasn't what I hoped for. The menu does say roast beef in the descripton. It's not steak prepared like I would hope it would have been. The flavor was great but personally too spicy for me. It was well prepared but not exactly what would order again. Dessert!!! We ordered the Apple Tarte Tatin, Crème Brulée, and the Chocolate Bouchon. Again. Perfect! My favorite as the apple tarte. Nothing went well. Money down the drain. Our server, while attentive the first 10 minutes, forgot about us repeatedly. Great restaurant in downtown Charlotte! It was a bit tricky to find because it's located in the lobby of an office building and I went in the back entrance of the building and it was in the front. I got a French 75 and Salade du Jardin which is a garden salad. But this was no typical garden salad with boring veggies and bland dressing. I had a wonderful experience dining here. The food: Scrumptious! The mushrooms (side dish) were thick and meaty. The fried chicken was juicy. The scallops were flavorful and large. I rarely make it downtown for dinner so when a friend suggested we meet them here- I was excited! The entire experience here was fantastic! Everything on the menu is authentic and most of the ingredients truly do come from France. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts salad - the warm egg takes it to the next level! I just had an incredible French meal at Coquette in Charlotte. From the vibe to the service to the food, everything was top-notch during dinner service! We started with cocktails - a Negroni blanc and an Herve Rousseau 75 - which were both great. The Tuna Crudo was tender with a fantastic freshness to it. The Mushroom Tart had a flaky crust and meaty mushrooms. And the raclette fondue took it to the next level. The Poached Rose Shrimp were delicate with mouthwatering notes from the saffron aioli and Meyer lemon. The Oysters were classic and exactly what good oysters should be. The Smoked Bone Marrow may have been my favorite of the night: Rich, herb-packed, with a balanced sweetness from the shallots. The Steak Tartare was bursting with umami flavors and brightened with notes of dill and pickles. The Gougère au Truffe were also amazing. Creamy, salty, and decadent while the Croissant au Escargot were tender, flakey and buttery. The King Crab Legs were exceptional - a taste of seafood heaven. For entrees, the Côte de boeuf with béarnaise was a perfect rendition of steak frites. The Coquette Duck Fat Fried Chicken was crisp yet succulent with a peppery seasoning and added richness from the duck fat. The Coquille St-Jacques was well executed too. Perfectly cooked scallops with a touch of saltiness that was balanced out by the cold potato and green bean salad. And for dessert you really can't go wrong. We tried the Chocolate Bouchon, Cherry Clafoutis, Cafe Gourmand and Apple Tarte Tatin. They were all solid choices, but my favorite was the Apple Tarte Tatin. Buttery, flakey, and caramelized to perfection, topped with a creamy honey rosemary ice cream. All things considered, I was truly impressed by Coquette. My wife and I decided to have dinner at Coquette before attending an event last weekend. We were excited to dine there but ended up having a truly miserable experience. We had a reservation for a high top table and everything started as expected. Drinks were served promptly and we ordered appetizers. Sadly, we never received the escargot's that were ordered or the bread service. When dinner arrived, the duck was ice cold and vegetables were as well. I ordered the lobster pasta which was a little fishy, but warm. The floor manager came by and we brought up the fact that we did not receive our appetizers and the duck was cold. She offered to make a new one which we declined as we had an event to get to. She agreed to take the duck and escargot off the check which was appreciated. When our server brought the check, both were still on the check so we asked her to take them off. When she returned with the correct check, her response was "Sorry, the kitchen is behind tonight. Don't hold it against us." I felt this was a horrible response that showed a lack of empathy and care. At the end of the day, we left a $10 tip on a $150 bill due to the horrendous service and attitude of our server. Come to find out, we checked our credit card bill a few days later to find our tip was changed to $30 instead of $10! A perfect 20%. Think about that... We called the restaurant a few times and spoke to several people but got nowhere. They stated they would email us our receipts which we never got. This is an absolute coverup and this server should no longer be working in the industry. The managers protecting her should be in the same boat. The whole meal should have been comped but I am not worried about that. The only thing we asked for is to have the tip changed back to what it originally was which is $20 to the company. This has not been done and our only option at this point is to post reviews and report the restaurant to the Better Business Bureau. This will be forthcoming but DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! read more

Perfect spot for brunch with friends, with French themed ambience including suttle music. We sat on the patio outside seating which was eloquently put together and created the perfect French atmosphere. We tried the French toast and Croque Madam sandwich, both of which were delectable. The French Toast had cooked apples with it giving the dish a slight taste of fall to round out the sweetness of the syrup that complimented the perfectly cooked toast. The toast was soft to slice through with a fork like cutting butter and absorbed the syrup to make each bite more mouth watering then the last. The Croque Madam was topped with a perfectly cooked egg that allowed the yolk to compliment and create robustness in the underlying sandwich. The Mornay cheese created a creamy sandwich that really up tiered a traditional ham and eggs sandwich. The real standout star for the dish were the french fries that were just a touch crisp on the outside but soft within, topped with a great seasoning that made them a item we couldn't get enough of. The service was great with a good balance of speed and allowing us to enjoy our meals / take our time. The wait staff was overall very nice and knowledgeable with the only constructive feedback being drink refreshment (especially coffee), could have been better. Food was exceptional, the bone marrow had a sweet sauce and was plentiful as it's cut along the length rather than in slices. The tartar was mild and came with plain bone marrow and a quail egg, it was far less seasoned and a little fishy as it is raw (I enjoyed). Hot chocolate was made of darker chocolate but it made a good balance to the apple dessert which had a nicely sticky caramel sauce. Waitstaff were exceptional, polite, and I wish them the best in pursuing their dreams! Ambiance outside was pleasant despite being roadside, it felt like being cut out of the city bustle enough to enjoy the meal. read more

The Ambiance feels rustic and bright, the service and management are very accommodating, and the food doesn't upset at all. Found this restaurant on yelp was so glad that we decided to try it for my husband's birthday. We started out with oysters on the half shell. They were fantastic brought out in a very timely manner. Next we had bone marrow the best ever and I've had a lot of bone marrow in my time. it was very flavorful. It was served with bread that was a delight. I could not recommend this enough. Less but not least we had the halibut. It was light refreshing perfect complement to the meal. Tried to go once for coffee and pastries, doors were open, staff were working in the kitchen, but nobody out to take our order or serve us anything. We left and went to Amelie's down the street. Tried again recently. Doors were sort of open. Staff was serving but not super friendly. Patio was not set up despite beautiful weather. Almost felt unwelcome. We were served our pastries and coffee in all "to go" containers but we chose to sit at a table and relax anyway. Wait staff set tables all around us and other customers started to come in and were seated nicely and served with regular dishes. It was a very odd experience. Coffee selection was limited but very good lattes. No flavorings. Excellent pastries. Just a shame the morning experience is so odd. read more

Absolutely beautiful restaurant! The lighting, the soft seating, the spacing, the city views! Every detail about this place is a treat. The pretty designs on the water glasses, the soft individual hand towels in the bathroom, the toilet paper! I know that may sound silly, but if you are truly high-class, you will get the nice toilet paper, ha! The staff were so exceptionally nice, especially the hostess who greeted us with a genuine "Happy Anniversary!" and our waiter, who went out of his way to make everything super special for our celebration. I haven't even mentioned the food! Wow, the flavors! We went with the escargot, bone marrow, steak tartare, and mushrooms. Would I go back, yes, do I wish they did a few things differently, yes. Their menus are really beautiful sounding and I would love to try more items. We went for breakfast which although they have a brunch menu I believe it is only served on weekends. Couldn't find on their website when exactly it is served but we went on a Tuesday and only pastries were available but wow do they have a beautiful selection! We got the Savory Paris Croissant, Ferraro Rocher Croissant, Canele, Tarte Bretonne, a cafe au lait and a French hot Chocolate. They were all very good but could have benefitted from being warmed slightly, especially the Savory Croissant. A croissant laden with butter, cheese and ham doesn't improve when cold. Also, all of our items were served in togo cups and pastry boxes but there were other people there that got plates and saucers. It made eating our delicious items awkward. No one asked when we purchased our things if it was to go or not. Maybe we were supposed to say something? We don't live here and so maybe we just don't know the drill but there are many hotels in the area so it isn't like this is a place that primarily caters to locals. About half way through the owner (I believe) brought us a carafe of water and glasses. The glasses btw were adorable as is the whole restaurant. It is really a gorgeous place and and it would be wonderful to sit outside on their large patio, sip a beverage, listen to the lovely French music and enjoy the weather. read more

What an awesome little addition to Uptown! From the moment you walk in you feel like you have been transported across the pond. The restaurant is bright and welcoming with calm French music that is relaxing. I've been here a couple times to grab some drinks after work and the staff are all excellent at what the do. The cocktails are delicious and creative, you can try one of their creations or go for something more classic. They excel at both. I came in for lunch with some coworkers and they had one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a long time. Cooked in duck fat it is perfectly crisp and tender, and it is adorned with a great sauce and chili flakes that give it some spice. To top it off their French fries were perfectly crispy the way I like them and came with a garlic aioli far which in my opinion is far superior as a fry dipping sauce than ketchup.
