Lots of empty tables but they refused to seat us at an open four seat table (only two of us) in the more vibrant area of the restaurant. We waited for other tables to open but ultimately chose to sit at the bar, and our bartender did a great job. Throughout the entirety of our stay, about an hour or so, the tables we had pointed out as open, remained unused. From the moment i walked in, I was treated awfully. The owner/ manager made it clear they didn't like people not ordering food and everyone NEEDED to be served by an actual waiter, except this place is advertised as a CAFE/ BAKERY, as well as a place with lunch and dinner service. i said being served was fine with me. except my waitress was SO much nicer to other customers. If you're trying to get some work done, don't come here. Unless you're a business person in a suit- they didn't seem to have any problem with them having laptops out. I have enjoyed lunch on several occasions. However. I will never dine there again. Last night I attended a jazz show at the Bechtler next door and decided to stop in for a glass of wine and a light appetizer. It was early and I was the only patron in at the time, except 3 men sitting at the bar. I was seated and my waiter took my order. My food came, I dined and enjoyed my beverage. Noticing the time getting close to curtain, I completed my portion and by this time one more person came into the restaurant. I am a black woman and she was not, I need to mention. I laid my napkin on the table and assumed someone would notice that i was just sitting there. My waiter proceeded to converse with her with his back to me, but a waiter, a waitress and the host stood at the front and completely ignored me as I patiently waited, thinking they would notify him. Eventually I help up my finger, but a glazed look came across their face and they proceeded to walk past me, heads down and escape to the barista room behind a wall. I called out excuse me to each staff that came in ear shot, still nothing. 10 minutes later he came over and seeming to not care that I was not pleased. I asked for the check, which of course promptly came. As I exited. those same 3 were there, saying nothing as I crossed their path. I went to Coquette to get a coffee and a pastry. The young lady taking orders was very nice I got a chocolate croissant and I got it warmed and in the process of it being warmed in their oven I was looking at the other pastries and while looking I saw two huge gnats flying around in the pastry window one big was on the glass and the other on the almond financier. I brought it up to the young ladies attention that there were bugs in there and she smiled and didn't seem to worried about it. At this point I was a bit upset I had already paid for my croissant but I was disgusted I let her know I wasn't eating the croissant and that I would be leaving. I don't know but I was just expecting a bit pre care especially if there are bugs on food you're readily selling. Very sub par experience for the price and what they're trying to be. I told our server I have a severe allergy to a food. First dish comes out and lo and behold the food I'm allergic to is right there on the plate alongside the rest of the food. Was told eat around it. ‍ She didn't seem to grasp the severity of cross contamination... makes me question their sanitary practices in general. The parking situation is very bizarre. You get to park behind the building and the way in is through a sketchy and very confusing route. If I were alone I would have not walked by myself. Also we were told by our waitress they validated parking. She took our ticket and "validated" it. I put that in quotes because she didn't... still had to pay $12 for parking. We were there for about an hour... On the way out we passed right by the manager who seemed very mad and didn't even acknowledge us. He almost bumped into me and didn't say a thing. My girlfriend and I visited the Charlotte area for her birthday weekend. We came across Coquette. It was by far the worst decision we made. The atmosphere was decent but the service was terrible. We ordered two steak entrees. After 30 minutes, the waiter informed us that the restaurant ran out of ribeye steaks. This is poor communication between the kitchen and staff. We placed our new orders. My girlfriend specifically asked for less mushrooms but her order was swimming with them. The icing on the cake was when we asked for the check. After multiple mistakes, our waiter handed our checks with the steaks we never ate. Honestly, it was a terrible experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant in uptown Charlotte. read more

Overall an enjoyable meal and a welcome addition to Uptown. The food was very good with the stars of the show being the Duck Fat Fried Chicken and Apple Tarte Tatin. A nice flight of Oysters and a Coquille St. Jacques rounded out a tasty meal. A miss for me however was the $5 "Bread Service" which constituted a small roll cut into 4 pieces with some soft butter. It's one thing to charge for bread but this felt more like a junk fee for what should be complementary on a $100 pp meal. Service was friendly but a bit on the chaotic side, but given a new restaurant and a very busy Friday night, it's to be expected. Definitely recommend and look forward to my next visit. read more

What a great addition to Uptown Charlotte! Love this place already, and it's only my second time here. The head chef here has really created an amazing menu, and I have not had anything that was not a 10/10. The must try dishes are: the bone marrow, steak, oysters and the fried chicken! My husband and I came here for a date night and were sooo impressed. The food was exceptional, the service was outstanding, and the restaurant is just beautiful. We shared the canard a l'orange (duck), the mushroom tart, and the Brussel sprout salad. Second time at Coquette and it was just as excellent as the first time. First, it's a beautiful space. Second, the service is spot on. Our server this evening, Gabriel, was so gracious and attentive. Same with Kyle who served my group last time and Michelle who helped us at the patisserie and kept our goodies refrigerated while we went to our show. The food is excellent. We had a nice cheese board, followed by the incredible mussels and pomme frites. The portions are perfect for sharing. Yeah we're cheap - but why not just honor the price?They leave the salt on the table in these serving bowls, at a coffee shop I gotta assume this was sugar - put it in my coffee. I was so excited to dine at Coquette. Unfortunately, my husband and I will not be returning. See below for the appalling reason why. We love to eat dinner at the bar. Unfortunately, there was only one seat open. It was at the end, next to an older gentleman, who looked like the owner, doing his accounting. He had Toast opened up and was sorting through stacks of cash that were sitting on the counter. It was rather odd and did not seem like the time or place to be doing that kind of bookkeeping. While we tried to keep our distance, there was no where else to stand. He did not offer to get up and give us his chair and move his accounting elsewhere...there were many available/open tables to chose from (not a good sign on a Saturday night at 7pm). Finally, after about 15 minutes, a couple sitting a few chairs down got up, so we planned go grab their seats. As we were getting ready to move, he muttered something in French under his breath and then said "good, fuck off." I was hoping that I had heard wrong, but my husband said he heard the same. Unfortunately, his glaring facial expression did not help matters. The situation definitely put a damper on the night. Our bartender, on the other hand, was super attentive. We had the escargot, which was delicious. It was wrapped in a croissant, a light and buttery hor d'oeuvre. We also had the foie gras French toast. It was okay, too much cinnamon, which overpowered the taste of the duck, which should have been the star of the show. We also enjoyed the fried chicken and sole. The chicken was moist and had a wonderful crunch, but was in desperate need of a sauce of sorts. The sole was deboned table side, which is a nice touch and how the finer restaurants present it. However, the server admittedly said she had no idea how to do it. I would have hoped they would have trained their staff to debone a $62 fish, without it being a guessing game and ultimately ending up as butchered fillet. The fish was also rather dry, luckily the side of lemon caper butter helped. We also had mushrooms, which we're doused in wayyyy too much butter, and mashed potatoes, which were actually divine, a lovely purée. We each got three glasses of wine. With tax and tip, we spent almost $400 at this "establishment." While the food was good, it wasn't great, certainly not worth the price or the added bonus of being told to fuck off. read more

Dined for brunch today and had a wonderful experience. Our server Kyle was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food was all excellent. We got the croque madame, quiche, and creme brûlée French toast. Rich, flavorful, but not heavy handed. Good stuff all around. The manager and chef Christian came to our table while we dined to check in on us as well which was definitely a nice touch. They really nailed it in every aspect of service.
