We worked closely with Michael, Sean, and Tritia every step of the way through meetings at their office, on site walkthroughs, and text and email. I had very specific design ideas I wanted to include and never once felt gaslit or unheard. Since we chose to live in our house during the renovation process, we were nervous about dust and noise but the crew was clean and the always respectful. They even worked through a power outage--with their own generator! Francisco, the carpenter, built all our cabinets to our exact measurements. For our wet bar, he took a sketch we came up with and built a masterpiece. In fact, we had planned to save a bit on budget and build our own media center but after seeing his craftsmanship in the kitchen, we knew he had to be the one to build our media center and we are grateful he did! His work is just beautiful--you can tell it's built to last. What I appreciated most was how well everyone worked together. We always felt like our project mattered, and if we had a question or change, the team was quick to respond and genuinely helpful. The team at Coram Design Center is the best. They worked with us to design and build our house interior and the whole experience was positive from start to finish. I appreciated how they listened to my ideas and then provided helpful and smart solutions. I struggled with feeling like all my ideas were too wild for my budget, but they were able to discuss things with me in a practical way and explain what we could realistically do. They guided me through the process step by step, first starting with inspiration pictures and then collaborating with me on every decision like kitchen and bathroom layout, the lighting, structural considerations, plumbing changes, flooring options, appliances, the cabinets, the tile, colors, even the placement of the mirrors and knobs. They provided different options to consider within our price range and knew when to discuss potential issues that could come up, things I never would have thought of on my own. Coram found a balance between getting my input while also providing me with professional opinions on what they knew would/would not work. Very collaborative. They do everything in house, the architecture, interior design and contracting work which made communication about the project a breeze. I could trust the project manager to relay important information to me when needed. Now that we are living in our house I keep having moments of noticing details that they worked on that we really love, for example, they put automatic lights in the laundry closet and that's such a nice touch. The hood range they helped us select has an automatic sensor and we were so pleasantly surprised the first time it turned on while cooking. I keep staring at the plumbing and lighting fixtures they helped us pick because they are so beautiful, functional, and they fit in our budget. There was no way I could have managed to pick all those details on my own. The overall feel of the house is exactly what I hoped for and everyone who visits us is amazed at how nice it turned out. I feel like their style is exactly my style--minimal, modern, sleek, incorporating traditional elements when needed--but it's more likely that they are just good at working with their clients to make it exactly their own. I think renovations can be so scary especially if there's a lot you don't understand. In our search for home remodeling, my wife and I were lost and had no idea where to start (what supplies/tools to get, what design/paint matches well with our home, etc.). But Michael guided us through the entire process in an uncomplicated, client-first mentality which helped ease our anxiety and made the whole process not only smooth, but also enjoyable. Coram is amazing! We had them gut and remodel our master bathroom. They were wonderful to work with and deserve more than 5 stars! Michael, Sean, Tritia, David, and all the crews were friendly, professional, and delivered high quality work. This was the first major remodel we'd ever done so we weren't sure exactly what to expect. During our first meeting we went over the project and Michael explained the process and answered our questions. He provided an estimate the next day with a detailed scope of work. We thought it would be helpful to have a single company do both the design and construction and based on our meeting, Coram seemed like a good choice. We were definitely right! They removed our old shower and bathtub and replaced them with a beautiful walk-in shower. They also replaced a window, installed new flooring, painted, and built a new wood vanity with a matching stand-alone cabinet. In addition, they patched and painted the drywall in the master bedroom closet. The team was very easy to work with and walked us step by step through the entire process. Michael, Sean and Tritia did a great job helping us figure out a design. We had some initial ideas of what we wanted but our talks with the team and the design boards Tritia put together really helped to shape and focus our vision. They have a lot of experience and after listening to our ideas they were able to point out design elements and suggest alternatives that we hadn't considered (such as tile type/layout, exhaust fan, window, and vanity design). They were great at communicating and we always knew what the work plan was for each day. The crews left the job site clean at the end of each day and always checked in with us if they had questions or suggestions. Coram also handled all the permits and permit inspections. Although this was the largest house project we've undertaken, it was by far the least stressful. We ran into one issue where the shower floor tile we had picked out wasn't available from the vendor. Coram suggested some alternatives and provided samples for us, one of which happened to be close to the original. In the end I think it actually turned out to be a better match for our color scheme. The job was moving along on track but was interrupted by the Eaton Fire. Fortunately, our house survived. There was about a month delay due to evacuations, inspections, etc. before the crew could continue the project. Coram was so supportive during that time. Even though it was no one's fault, I know it had to be frustrating that the schedule had been upended but they never complained and they were genuinely concerned about us. They absolutely put the customer first! Our bathroom turned out better than we expected. It's relaxing and inviting now, such a contrast from the old bathroom which seemed to scream at us whenever we walked in. This was such an easy and wonderful contractor experience that we're planning to have Coram come back in a few months to remodel our kitchen and guest bathroom. I would definitely recommend Coram! We used Coram to remodel our primary bath and give all our bedrooms a fresh look with new flooring, recessed lighting, paint and doors. The project originally was only going to include the bathroom, but over time expanded to half the house and Coram was able to make it happen. From the first walk through we felt supported and inspired. They were extremely organized and detail-oriented. They anticipated challenges before they happened. If we ever had questions or needed to talk through something in greater detail, they were right there. We've now had Coram involved with 2 bathroom remodels and a renovation of our primary bedroom. The staff are courteous, very hard working, capable and knowledgeable. Our lead, Sean, was onsite every day that we had crew in the house, checked in on progress, was flexible when changes were needed and oversaw all inspections. He also attended to punch list items in an ongoing fashion, which meant to me that the job was carefully managed. Our first bathroom remodel was estimated at 6-8 weeks and they finished in 5 weeks (2019). This remodel (January 2021) was scheduled for 8-10 weeks and due to source delays (windows, lighting) and an ever changing scope of work (that's on me!!) we ended up with a 9 week project - this is an awesome track record. We have a big remodel planned for kitchen, dining, living and family room later this year/early 2022 and are a bit worried that Coram will be too popular to make time for us because we are referring everyone to them! I know Coram team for over 10 years and my experience with them has never been matched. I hired them 10 years ago when I bought a new place in Pasadena requiring to do a big remodel to the place I purchased. There was large list of items in need to be redone, like remodeling the kitchen, bathrooms, windows, flooring, etc. My ask was to compete the remodeling in three weeks prior to us moving in. On the Friday three weeks later, the new place was done as discussed, with no additional whining or ask for more money. The only ask from Coram was to take my shoes off so the crew could take some final pictures that they could add to their portfolio of completed houses. Our Coram Design remodel is complete and we are just incredibly happy with the results. Michael Chung is a true professional and his entire team at Coram Design are amazing to work with. We did a full house remodel that took 10 months and the Coram Design team were here 6 days per week almost every week of that 10 months - all of them are really skilled, knowledgeable, very friendly, and have a great work ethic. Our home's dated primary bathroom was years overdue for a complete overhaul. It needed to be torn down to the studs and totally rebuilt. We had never done a major remodel, and especially one as complex as a bathroom. After interviewing five different five-star general contractors, we decided that Coram had the most relevant design experience and expertise, would provide the best customer service, and would meet our needs best. It was absolutely the right decision. Although they were not the least expensive option, you really do get what you pay for, and their price was both competitive and very fair for the extremely high quality of the work. Michael and his team of David, Sean and Tritia worked closely with us to outline and explain the scope of work in detail. We did not need much in the way of design services, since we had generated our plans with the help of an independent interior designer. Coram honored our preferences but did not hesitate to politely inform us if a feature would not work out as planned, and then they recommended workable alternatives. For example, they advised removing our proposed bathtub, which we were planning to incorporate just for show, and instead going with a large shower, which we use daily and really appreciate. The team was honest, trustworthy, communicative, and responsive during the entire project. In addition to providing updates on Buildertrend, they set up a group text which we used effectively on an almost daily basis for information, updates, and actions. The quality of the work from the subcontractors, especially Leo and his team, was also exceptional. They did a highly professional job, paying careful attention to detail and doing the job right the first time, cleaning up at the end of each day and being respectful of the neighbors. They also responded quickly to any items that needed to be tweaked; for example, two doors needed to be slightly realigned in order to close properly, and Coram fixed them promptly. The project did take somewhat longer than originally forecast, but that was not unexpected for a job of this complexity, including the careful handling of porcelain wall tile slabs and a quartz vanity top slab, and building three custom wood cabinets. Bottom line is that everything was built and installed to very high standards, everything works as it should, and we are delighted with the results! In parallel, we also worked with Michael and his team to get the exterior of our house painted. Our designer had recommended paint brands and colors; we needed only to supply the paint, and Coram provided the painter crew who did a careful and quality job of painting the siding, stucco, shutters and trim; we are confident that the results will last and look great for years. read more

I highly recommend working with Coram on anything related to rehab/selling a house. I personally used Coram for the rehab as well as my listing agent. For rehab--Coram was absolutely professional and efficient. They made me understand each of the actions they were taking and why. They also put it in layman's terms for me to understand. Overall, it seemed like they were really top-of-the-line in terms of their service, but they also were super approachable and took time to answer any questions I had. They set expectation (timeline, budget, etc.) and they met/exceeded EVERY SINGLE ONE. Overall, I went in thinking that a rehab will be a pain no matter what, but came out a believer that it isn't really that bad after all if you have a good advisor (like Coram). For listing agent--these guys know what they are doing. I was able to get multiple competitive offers within a few days; I was able to sell at above my listing price (during Nov 2022, when interest rates were skyrocketing and all houses were lowering their asking price); and I was able to close within three weeks. I'm sure each deal is different, but I'm sure I couldn't have gotten this without Coram. Michael and Sean are good listeners which is crucial for custom kitchens. There are many "pushy" contractors trying to guide towards the easier/faster route for them (in-n-out or quick cash system); however, Coram Design Center took the time to clearly understand our vision and more importantly, kitchen functionality. After few weeks of schematic design review, Michael and Sean put together a 3-D model clearly capturing all the discussed details and it was exciting to see the final design on the screen from different angles. There were few rounds of color and panels review/selection and we were ready for construction!!!Coram's construction crew was respectful and always kept the working areas clean at the end of the day. We had some unforeseen conditions after opening the walls but Coram's construction crew was able to smoothly work around these conditions without affecting the project schedule nor budget. David and his team did amazing job remodeling our old 1950's kitchen. The price quote was way below the other two contractors. I thought for the price only everything above the subfloor and outside walls would be replaced. However to my surprise it was a gut job. The cast iron/ galvanized pipe in the walls and under the house all replaced with ABS. New electrical wiring with dedicated circuits for each appliance. These guys don't cut corners and do everything to building code. Leo even replaced the existing horizontal ABS drain pipe from the laundry to kitchen due to substandard pipe used by the previous plumber. This should have been an additional charge but replaced out of courtesy. Despite all our last minute changes and slow decisions making. David, Sean, Leo and Romaio were patient, professional and went above and beyond to accommodate our changes. I highly recommend David and Coram design. The kitchen is beautiful and the best part of our house. We will definitely use Coram again in the future. read more

I had a very difficult assignment from my Santa Monica HOA to conform to new IIC and STC ratings on an 1-1/2" concrete slab. Most are tested on 6" concrete floor. Coram likes to sell the ends of mill runs which can be used on smaller jobs. He also found a hard surface flooring made from plastic with a layer of noise dampening material incorporated in the plank. Looks like old wood and went with the 1980's amber plumbing fixtures very well. Not only did help me solve my noise issues, but his crew was very professional,skilled and proficient in their trade. The price on the Mohawk carpet with pad was lower than Home Depot and of much better quality. The hard surface flooring, aka LVT, was from Mannington, who provided test data showing that their material could pass an IIC rating of 55 or higher without further underlayment because they had tested it on an 1-1/2" floor 10 years ago. I still had to put an additional one in to satisfy the HOA Board. We both got an education as specifiers for potent underlayments for HSF, My experience with Michael was great. He was patient, helpful, and had the homeowner's interests first on the list. I highly recommend him and Coram Design Center. read more

Then a guy showed up on time based on my schedule and told me they will send me the estimate in matter of one or two weeks. After 2 years and 4 contractors, (long story) I decided that I would be my own contractor on my extensive remodel project. We were completely remodeling and upgrading the kitchen, family room and laundry room. We were also adding hard wood flooring to the entire house. I went up to Coram Design to simply see a sample of the flooring we wanted, as they were the closest rep for the brand we were looking for. After talking with them, I asked if they might be interested in giving me an estimate for my project. Moving 4 months later to today....I can't believe how lucky we were to find Michael, Shawn and the entire crew that created exactly what I wanted. They kept me up to date, they were always on time, and were incredibly kind and accommodating to all our questions. They were true to their cost estimates and we actually had a few things added because I was so impressed with the quality of their work.
