This review is for Greg Hudson. He is the best, most competent, most caring real estate professional. I just moved to New York City from Charleston, West Virginia. I am an newly-graduated attorney and lifelong public interest advocate, but I'm also a performer. I came to New York to continue to pursue my dream of performing after years of working regionally. I got ahold of Greg Hudson via referral from Mr. Warner after a laborious and deflating process before I was lucky enough to cross paths with Greg Hudson. Greg took my needs - a small apartment that took dogs and was semi-safe, affordable, and close - and he ran with it. He didn't just run with it, he ran multiple marathons with it, if you will. I have never seen someone with more indefatigable energy, and I tend to be a pretty energetic person. Greg showed me from the first phone call that he *genuinely* cared about me, my dog, and our dreams and needs. He circulated many options for me and I chose a handful to see. He went above and beyond from the beginning, and happily worked around the fact that I needed this apartment quickly (my job started in a week), and was in WV for most of the search. He rushed to the apartments for me and we did FaceTime tours. He also happily tried to work with my friends here to see it a second time on my behalf. We talked all day long, everyday. He never, ever quit. Everyday, he always showed me that he was constantly working on my and Winnie's behalf. He always kept me updated. I ALWAYS felt VERY secure that he was advocating on our behalf. It gave me faith in my decision to move. Greg actually gave me faith in New York City, and the people here. I know that's a large task, but he truly did. I owe him more than I can even express. We found an apartment that had a bad broker on the other side (the landlord's broker). He was very sketchy and stalled for days, with us relying on his word that our application was priority and the only one in. He kept stalling. Long story short, the other broker really did us wrong, and broke some professional ethics and fiduciary responsibilities in the meantime. Greg did not take that lying down, he felt wronged because I had been wronged. We were back to ground zero. I was at the end of my rope. I was starting to lose hope, and had lost faith in my decision to move to NYC to chase my dream. Greg, however, was more charged than ever to make it right and get Winnie and I something even better. He was determined to do right by me. That's exactly what he did. I saw a very adept and energetic person take it to an even higher level, and really gave me every ounce of his time until we secured an apartment. We applied to the one I eventually ended up getting, but we still faced obstacles. He kept pushing and advocating for me, beyond what anyone else would do. I truly felt that he cared about me as if I were a dear friend and he believed in my dream. I truly felt that he cared (and still does) about my and Winnie's well being. He still checks on us even after being settled. From the time we applied to the apartment I'm in, to the time I actually got the keys (I had to start work before I actually got the keys), Greg fought hard to help our first day or two in NYC. He even tried to find me movers that would work after normal business hours (the only time we could move). In short, he just went above and beyond. I consider him so much more than just a great real estate professional who helped my dreams come true. I also trust him 100%. I even consider him a friend. He truly, genuinely cares. I also say these things as the daughter of a top-selling realtor in WV, so I have seen plenty of scenarios, both good and bad. Greg Hudson is the very best in all ways. I recently moved into my new apartment and I would be remiss if I did not take a minute to sing (as loud as I can) about the amazing experience I encountered from Mr. Greg Hudson. I had been searching for an apartment for an entire month and was just about to give up all hope of finding the right apartment for me. Until Mr. David Warner a committed and compassionate broker took some extra time to help me. Mr Warner saw I was someone with "a few issues" that were getting in my way and went out of his way to help me. To put it mildly, I was at a point where I was deeply concerned about my future residence. David Warner promised to help me and introduced me to Greg Hudson. I have lived in New York City since 2011. In that short timeframe I've had to deal with four separate real estate brokers. But none of them even remotely compares to the sublime experience I've had with Jed Wilder and Lindsay Krantz from Citi Habitats. My girlfriend and I were looking for a luxury apartment in East Harlem to rent. Still reeling from a horrible experience with a broker and unscrupulous landlord who surprised us with $1,000 in hidden fees, an unstated actual rent $450 more than the list price, an excessively restrictive lease, and countless HPD building violations, we were desperately looking for someone who wouldn't rip us off or surprise us. Well, Jed and Lindsay are as honest as they come. Everything was extremely straightforward with them----no tricks, no nonsense, no hidden fees, no deceit. They only work with honest landlords and they're honest people. You can trust them. And that's exactly who you need as a real estate broker, especially when you're looking in a tumultuous market like NYC where dishonesty and greed are rampant. Their lightning-fast responses to any inquiries or questions are almost unreal. I don't think a single email to them took longer than 15 minutes without a response, even emails sent at 11 PM! Their commitment to their clients is at a level far and above any other real estate brokers I've worked with in the past. What takes a day (or two days) with other brokers takes 15 minutes with Jed and Lindsay. There's a reason why they have won awards in the past---they're the REAL DEAL. Not only were they lightning fast, but they were extremely warm, friendly, personable, and fun to be around. Every other broker we've worked with has been cold, dispassionate, and aloof, but when Jed and Lindsay were showing us around it felt like we were old friends. This is important because the New York City rental market is massive and we're just small fish in a big pond. But despite this, Jed and Lindsay still took time out of their day to be extra courteous to us even though they had much more substantial properties on their plate. For Jed and Lindsay, EVERYONE matters no matter what your rent is or how much commission they'll get from you...and that's extremely important. They showed us the place immediately and two days later we signed the lease! What a response time! It is not possible for us to have a better experience with real estate brokers. Our time with them was so perfect and so seamless that I honestly question if it even actually happened. We had an AMAZING experience working with Helaine Tishberg. My boyfriend and I moved from San Francisco to New York City in November. We connected with Helaine through an interest link on a posting in late August when we started to stake out the NYC market. While we initially spoke with a couple of agents from other companies, Helaine was by far the most professional and was the only agent who took the time to explain the NYC market in detail. She covered everything from cost details, potential negotiations with landlords, neighborhood, transportation, etc. As a native New Yorker, Helaine has a depth of market knowledge and brings years of real estate experience. This was the first time my boyfriend and I were shopping for an apartment as a couple. We were learning a lot about each other through the apartment hunting process. Helaine recognized it. She was insightful and patient. In retrospect, Helaine knew what we wanted before we did but she didn't rush us. She let us get there on our own and gently advised us along the way. What we appreciated the most about Helaine was that she took the time to learn about us, listen to our "must haves, "would likes" and "not necessaries" and presented options accordingly. The first day we saw a range of options and provided feedback. Helaine listened and the next round of apartments was closer to what we were looking for. Then day three, we saw four apartments and any of the four would have been a great fit. All winners. In the end, Helaine found us our home, a spacious walkup that is more than we could have asked for at a price point at the lower end of our budget. But it is after we found the apartment that Helaine shined even brighter. We had some complications with our paperwork (all on our side, nothing to do with Helaine) and Helaine managed the landlords until we could get the necessary paperwork completed. Through the paperwork debacle, I was a wreck. By then I had fallen in love with the apartment. We didn't have time to come back to NY before we moved to continue looking. Helaine stayed in constant communication with me and the landlords. She kept me calm until she closed the deal. It was clear that our happiness was Helaine's goal. We are finishing up our furniture shopping and decorating and are excited to have our first dinner party at our apartment. Helaine will most certainly be on the invite list. This review is for Jackson Sansoucie, who we only met briefly when he showed us a 1 bedroom we were interested in on the Upper West Side. We had reached out to another realtor initially to see this apartment but at the last minute, there was a switch. So despite having told the first realtor all the information on our criteria and budget, none of this information was relayed to the realtor we actually met with (Jackson). First off, jackson was 20 minutes late to the appointment despite living just around the corner from the the apartment we were meeting at. He in fact texted me multiple times the day before and the morning of our meeting to make sure we were still showing up. When he got there, he looked like he had just woken up. The address we met at was not even for the right apartment unit. He had trouble getting a key to get inside the apartment. Once inside the apartment, he had minimal knowledge of the unit. He also texted me earlier in the morning before our meet to say that he had another similar 1 bedroom in the same area with a fireplace to show us afterward. However, when I asked him about this later, it turned out there wasn't a second apartment because he in fact completely forgot we were already seeing the same 1 bedroom apartment with a fireplace. After my husband and I decided we did not like this apartment, he then proceeded to tell us that our $2400 budget was too low to get anything on the UWS and kept saying he had more places to show us but was not actually prepared to give us details on any of the units he supposedly could show us. He kept trying to drive up our budget. He then asked me for my email so that he could email me details on apartments later when we had already in fact been emailing each other just the day before. We quickly left him since we had other apartments lined up to see that day but he then also demanded to know which realtor and apartments we were looking at. Overall, we found him to be unprofessional and unprepared. This is a review specifically on the agent, and not necessarily a bad review on Citihabitat because my husband and I actually used Citihabitats to sign for our current apartment 3 years ago and had a better experience than the 15 min experience we had with Jackson. read more

I have sincere appreciation for the exceptional service I received from Aaron Chesky during a recent apartment search. From our very first interaction, Mr. Chesky demonstrated a rare combination of professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care. He took the time to ask and listen to my story and understand my unique situation, which made me feel like more than just another client. Based on what I shared, he thoughtfully suggested an alternate property that I had not considered but turned out to be an excellent fit. What truly stood out to me was how Mr. Chesky treated me with respect and optimism even after learning that I was not currently employed, because I just moved to NYC within the month. I explained that I had a strong professional background - including experience as a teacher, in finance, in real estate, and that I had just graduated from law school - and that I was confident a job offer was imminent. Unlike other realtors who stopped returning my calls or texts once they learned of my situation, he remained supportive and assured me that using a guarantor was a perfectly acceptable option. That level of understanding and flexibility meant a great deal to me. Knowing that I was actively apartment shopping that day, he went above and beyond by adjusting his schedule to meet me at the alternative location that same day. Throughout the process, he kept me informed of his timing, provided clear directions for staying in touch, and maintained open and respectful communication at every step. He was kind, never pushy, and always genuine - qualities that made the process not only smooth but actually enjoyable. While I ultimately decided to extend my stay with my current company after they met my terms, I want to emphasize that this decision was in no way a reflection of Mr. Chesky or the outstanding service I received. On the contrary, I will absolutely reach out to him first when I am ready to move forward with a rental or home purchase in the near future. In july 2014, I came to New York to look for an apartment for myself and my daughter, a graduate student in the city. I answered dozens of craigslist ads and got only two responses. One was from a wonderful young lady with a slight Russian accent named Adelya Terranova, who worked with Allan Gewurtz. I was looking in Morningside Heights, and Adelya marched me up one hill and down another, up to the fifth floor of one building and back down, constantly on the go while I was gasping for breath. As it turned out, we found an unadvertised apartment through a private party, so all that marching didn't get Adelya her fee. But within six months, our wonderful building was sold, our lease was not renewed, and In August 2015, I had to start the whole process all over again. Back I went to craigslist, and this time, only one person contacted me. I was getting off an airplane when she called, and the reception was terrible, but this person was patient and kept calling me back after we were cut off repeatedly, and finally we made an appointment to meet. When she told me her name and that she worked with Allan, I thought, "Could it be the same team who was so helpful last year?" What was the chance of that in the Big Apple? When I saw her, it was indeed my "Russian agent" from last year. Although she could hardly remember me, she had become part of my "Coming to New York" story, in which I was marched up one hill and down another by a tireless young woman who was half my age. But this time, we didn't march at all. Allan said that he'd studied the listings and had decided that a particular apartment was the one for us. Instead of walking, we took the elevator, and we found a nicer apartment than our previous one, and it was larger, in better condition, and even a bit cheaper. Within hours after getting off that plane, we had a new apartment. Allan and Adelya are phenomenal with tireless energy and confidence. I hope I personally never have to use their services again, but I would highly recommend them to anyone, especially newcomers to New York who are overwhelmed by the whole process of finding a decent, affordable place to live amid of sea of places that are neither. read more

Where to even begin discussing Greg Hudson? He is the finest, most intuitive, most committed, creative, and genuinely devoted real estate person working (primarily) on the West Side. We met Greg when we were seeing a dreadful apartment with a broker, a gum-chewing woman who carried keys. She knew nothing about the apartment, the building, the block, the neighborhood. She just had a lot of keys. There are brokers like this. And then there is Greg. Without stepping on any toes, he maneuvered the whole party to another building where there was an apartment much better suited to us. (And he'd known us all of five minutes.) He was very careful to be absolutely fair to our original "broker," generous, transparent, polite and gentlemanly, which is how he operates. And which is how he is as a person. We switched our allegiance to Greg, who immediately decided we shouldn't rent in the building he'd shown us; the landlord, upon considering it, "wasn't good enough." (To be absolutely certain, he checked complaints against the building--vast--and he interviewed people in the elevator and outside.) We had lived many years in the village and didn't know the west side that well. So, Greg began to educate us in the styles of apartments in our range, each in a good building. We spent a lot of time together, walking around the neighborhood, and everywhere we went Greg was working for us: Not only dreaming up ways to get us better deals, but checking in with doormen to see what was happening and on the phone to various contacts to see what else we should see. If we'd agreed to see one place, he'd have found four more during our time together. Ultimately, what he found for us was way beyond what we'd dreamed. Big for our price point--really big. Sunny. With an extra room that we needed--oh, and not that hugely expensive. We could not be happier. The only downside of having moved in at last is that we don't get to see Greg as often. But, if you're reading this, you should. No one knows the west side like this guy. And he is so much fun to hang around with. More importantly, he will find you what you want and he will get you a great deal. read more

I wanted to come here to leave another great review for Sherry Mazzocchi. A couple of months back, when I finally decided I wanted to move out of my tiny studio in Washington Heights for something larger, I only really had one requirement: I loved where I was - just a couple of blocks north of the 168th St A,C,1 station - and I didn't want to leave the immediate neighborhood. Over the years, I had tried to do this unsuccessfully with other brokers, so I thought I would reach out to Citi Habitats, who had helped me years ago to find the place I was currently living in. I saw the review for Sherry a couple of reviews down, and in it the client said that Sherry lived in the Heights, so she had good knowledge of the neighborhood. PERFECT! I emailed her that day, and a couple of days later we were meeting at our local Dunkin Donuts to go check out some apartments. First, she showed me a gorgeous 1BR apartment on the SAME STREET that I currently lived on, as well as some other properties in the neighborhood, and then a few that were a bit further up into Inwood than I wanted to go. I started my apartment search early, so I still had plenty of time to look around, but I really liked that first apartment we saw, which was everything that I asked for, so I wanted to press "go" on it before I lost it to someone else. The next day, which was a Saturday, Sherry took me to see the place again so I could be sure, and then took me down to her office so I could put in my application. A couple of days later, she called me to tell me I got the apartment. I was signing my new lease within the week! New Yorkers know how horrific and soul-crushing the apartment search can be. Sherry knew what I wanted and she found it for me, and it was the first place we saw! How often does that even happen?! Furthermore, it was just so easy to work with Sherry. She was super attentive as far as emails and texts, and as a bonus she also knows so much about the history and culture of Washington Heights. I learned a lot just by walking around with her! This review is for Tuval Mor We previously worked with Tuval in 2015 as our tenant broker when we made our initial move to New York from another state while he was working with his previous brokerage firm. He was referred to us by a friend who was one of his previous clients. We contacted him a week before our planned a 2-day house hunting trip to the city, and he lined up a full day of apartment viewings (probably ~15 different apartments) the next week that were consistent with the location, price range, and other features we specified. His selections were great, and he worked very hard throughout the day helping us with pictures, measurements, and anything else we needed. At the end of the day he helped us through the application process, and we were able to sign a lease the next day. We loved the apartment and stayed for 3 years (brownstone building on the UWS in the 73rd St-Columbus area). 3 years later when we needed to find another place that would accommodate an expecting addition to our family, Tuval was the obvious call. Tuval, while in his final week at his previous brokerage firm in April of this year, again delivered an ideal range of options within our desired location and price range, and again we were able to successfully sign a lease within 48 hours. I think another thing we did not appreciate about Tuval the first time he helped us that was very apparent this time was his access to certain listings that were not being shown to the general market. That was something that we could only appreciate after living here for a few years and a better understanding of the market, but was definitely a huge value that he delivered as a result of his long-tenured experience and relationships in the New York real estate profession. This review is for Agi Anderson: I contacted Agi Anderson after reading a number of positive reviews about her and she was FANTASTIC! Before I contacted Agi, searching for an apartment was a personal nightmare. I couldn't trust anything I was finding online--Craigslist was giving me some serious trust issues. Every apartment I inquired about seemed to be misrepresented in photos, already rented (even though it was posted 10 min before I reached out), or had a number of random fees that weren't disclosed until the last second. Additionally, move in costs were astronomically high because I was a recent full-time student and just started working. Because I was a recent grad most landlords wanted 1st months rent, last months rent, 2 months security, move-in fees, and a guarantor (some even requested that I pay a number of months in advance). After searching for an apartment on my own proved to be an incredible waste of time, I decided to go with an agent. As I stated above, I reached out to Agi because of all the great things I heard about her. Agi responded immediately and was ready to show me apartments the next morning. Personally, I found Agi to be incredibly kind, caring, optimistic and always available. She is also SUPER motherly (you will see what I mean when you work with her). Agi went above and beyond trying to find me the perfect place and she never tried to push me to take an apartment I didn't like. Ultimately, Agi found me a great place that was under budget and 10 min from work! Additionally, thanks to Agi, I wont have to blow every paycheck on rent and I did not have to blow my entire savings just to move in. When we found an apartment, Agi stayed up until 1AM preparing my application, talking with the other agent and advocating on my behalf to ensure my application was accepted (without a guarantor). AGI ANDERSON was our agent and there's not enough good things we can say about her. We were in Texas looking for a place in Astoria, and from our first point of contact with her until she secured us the incredible place we live in now, she was always quick to respond and went above and beyond to work with us. We were relocating for work, and had never been to the area, so she gave us all the information and guidance we needed as we narrowed down the best location for our family of 4 (2 young kids). (it's not easy apartment hunting in NYC - much less when you're doing it out of state!) When it was finally time for my husband to fly out to NYC to apartment hunt in person (we had been searching online for weeks, and Agi was there every step of the way with any questions we had), Agi picked up my husband from the airport herself, and even drove him to meet with ANOTHER agent who was scheduled to show him a place. Even after the lease was signed and her work was done, she has continued to remain in contact with our family, making sure we have everything we need for our new lives here in NYC. This is a review for Jessica Flynt. I had just moved from London to NYC and was really struggling to find any decent apartments, due to not having any US credit history. Almost all landlords were looking for 6-12 months security on top of my first & last months rent. I was seeing apartments through brokers that I could afford and the brokers were pushing me to apply (paying the admin costs each time), just to be told the landlord wouldn't accept me because I wasn't a US citizen. I was under immense pressure to find an apartment as I was flying back to London for the Christmas break the next week. I found Jessica online, and emailed her explaining my predicament. Within a couple of hours Jessica had come back to me and fully listened to all of my concerns and issues. Jessica explained that she would call ahead and only set up appointments once the landlords had agreed to me not having credit history, being a US citizen etc.. The very next day, Jessica set up ten amazing viewings to see back to back at a time which suited me. Each and every apartment was of a very high standard and met every specification I had outlined to her. I was really pleasantly shocked at the options, especially after the trying experience I had been through since arriving. I would have taken any one of the apartments that Jessica has shown me that day, as they were all great. It was a tough decision to choose the perfect one, but I found a perfect apartment which I LOVE! In the days following Jessica was amazing at managing everything for me, from all of the landlord dealings to coming into to my office to get the landlord checks etc.. I would highly recommend contacting & working with Jessica. I found from a professional point of view she was fantastic, but also she was very compassionate. I recently worked with Joe DiPaolo to find an apartment in the upper west side area close to Columbia University. He was very easy to get ahold of and worked around my schedule which was great because I was coming into town for the weekend from Buffalo. He is very professional; walked me through all of the paperwork and answered every question that I had to the best of his ability in a way that I could easily understand. While looking at apartments that day, he took all of my wants and needs into consideration and we ended up finding some wonderful places. I found a roommate the next day and he was more than happy to meet with her and her family the following week to show her the places that we looked at so that we could make a decision together. We ended up having to work with a VERY difficult management company, (seriously we all wanted to rip our hair out for two weeks straight) but Joe was constantly helping us through the process every single step of the way and worked very hard to make things work with them (he deserves a gold medal). He worked extremely hard all hours of the day and was always very quick in answering my phone calls, text messages, and emails; not only for me, but my parents, my roommate, and her parents as well. After a crazy few weeks I am extremely happy to say that we successfully signed a lease for a beautiful apartment right by campus with everything that we could have asked for. I can't imagine going through this process with anyone else. Joe worked tirelessly for almost two weeks straight to help my roommate and I find an apartment that was perfect for us. This whole NYC apartment search would have been a complete failure if it weren't for him. Hats off to you Joe! Review of Davide Somasca. I have used Citi-Habitats three times to look for rental apartments in NYC, with two actual rentals through them. I've gotten various agents, some were decent and some were awful. Davide Somasca is quite possibly one of the best brokers in this city. When I first went to the Citi-Habitats on Columbus, I wasn't expecting much. I was returning to them because my experiences at Citi-Habitats weren't beyond awful and I've used other agencies with less than favorable results. Really I was just hoping to get a feel of the market and didn't expect to actually rent through them again. I can't tell you how grateful I am that Davide was the agent to approach me. Just blind luck I guess. This man must never sleep. He is "balls-to-the-wall" working for you 24/7. The amazing thing is that you can tell he's like this for every client, and yet you will always feel like his most important one. HE DRIVES. You'll see so many places on your outings with him that you'll need a full week to recuperate. This man knows real estate and he won't feed you any BS. Give him what you're looking for and he will produce results. He has 15 years experience and a silver tongue. If he thinks you can get something discounted, I guarantee he will do his best to make that happen. In the end, Davide's experience is what got me and my girlfriend our first choice in all the apartments we saw. We beat out another application that came in a day later because ours was more complete thanks to Davide. His tenacity really pays off - and he's far from pushy - he's just real. We worked with Josh Bergen to find our apartment. We felt that he truly heard what we wanted in our new home and could see he was working very hard to find it for us (and within our budget!). He was very easy to communicate with and always incredibly responsive, we always felt we were very important and that made us feel like VIPs. We never felt pushed or rushed, he took your time to explain, answer questions, and became our advocate with the potential apartment landlords/supers which made things very easy. He was very friendly and relatable, he understood what it means to look for a home but made us feel comfortable in asking what we really wanted to know. With Citi Habitats, you have to be comfortable paying a fee. We went in knowing that with this fee, we would be gaining service (and we definitely did!). Josh set up appointments for us around our schedules, he met us and had knowledge of each area we were in, so as we were walking he could give us insight into those particular areas. He worked with other brokers knowing the fee would be split - only because he wanted to find the right place for us. Josh took his time with us and asked questions for us before we even arrived (no issues with false information or pictures given by the broker - he called each place beforehand and asked specific questions to make absolutely sure it fit our criteria). It made things 1,000 times easier than searching around on our own. He found the perfect apartment for us, and he was incredibly active in communications during and after our move (he even asked if we wanted him there to help us coordinate the move!), to ensure we were properly settled and felt comfortable. This is my experience with Sherry Mazzocchi Ever just find the perfect person you need for an arduous task? Well, CitiHabitats broker Sherry Mazzocchi was that person for me. I had planned to move in 3 to 6 months anyway, but when I got a notice that the next door neighbors were going to be doing a 2-month kitchen/bath renovation starting in two weeks, I knew the time was now. Working nights means you sleep days and no way was I going to get any sleep with a construction site next door. So, I started looking on the usual websites to see what was out there that I could afford. I didn't want to move out of Manhattan, so affordable meant uptown. I found some suitable apartments in Washington Heights that met my budget so I emailed the broker listed on one of them. I'm not really one to leave reviews, but Lauren was so helpful throughout my entire process searching for an apartment in NYC. I had just moved back to the east coast from SF and so thought I had a good handle on challenging rental markets, but with the bidding wars and 60+ people showing up at listings, NYC was something else. I felt totally overwhelmed but luckily I got put in contact with Lauren. Through the whole process, Lauren was pragmatic, helped me realize what was important to me for my living space and lifestyle, and positive. She helped me adjust my expectations and feel confident in my budget and criteria. I was also looking out-of-state, which made things even more difficult and added a lot of anxiety. Working with Lauren took a lot of this anxiety out of the equation. I could send her listings to look at (because I could not stop obsessively checking StreetEasy) day or night and she was responsive and helpful. Every time I was in town she set up listings for us to see, and it was also very helpful to have her there with me to discuss and compare to things we had seen previously. Many times too, Lauren noticed things about apartments that I hadn't that would have had a considerable impact on my comfort level living there. I appreciated her constantly thinking about my lifestyle and looking out for things that would impact how I felt living in a space. I truly would not have made it through this process without her!
