High way Robbery! I called in asking about a safety i needed done for a car i just bought. The registration is old so i know hawaii's stupid system of needing a safety to get a registration and needing the registration for the safety. Thats not the problem. He says he only takes cash and the safety will be $26 so i went to the ATM about a block away and pulled out $40 being my only option. It charges like a $5 fee for the ATM as most charge an extra fee if its not your bank. Then upon return, he points out my license plate light not working and i could use new windshield wipers. I had planned on getting the wipers anyway and he gave me an estimate on how much and said it would be a 30 minute wait. I went, got food and then walked around. AN HOUR later he called and i had went and got extra money totally $100. I get there and he says its $120.49 i asked if i could just get $20 more since i would have to draw another $20 out if he wanted the 49c. I come back from my 3rd time at the ATM and give him the next $20. He says I'm good to go. I asked if i could get a receipt please and he seemed annoyed and said he'd have to fill out the paperwork. I answered his questions and he filled it all out, then said it was going to cost extra! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So i had to go to the ATM AGAIN. Thats $20 the ATM has taken at this point and he's really charging me almost $7 for just the receipt! I'll be going somewhere else for sure. I asked why i have to pay for the receipt and he said,"well at first you were paying cash so you didn't need the receipt but now that you want one i have to add the taxes" but I'M STILL PAYING IN CASH! Corey is pretty much a straightforward guy. He's not gonna sugar coat anything and pretty much tell you exactly what is on his mind. So if many people think he's rude - I can see why. Look beyond that and he's a pretty cool guy to get to know. He's got a heart of gold, and does take the time to help people out in their last minute inspection needs or other car malfunctions. He'll be honest about his time, again he's not gonna hide it. We use him for our car inspections, and he is very thorough and gives great attention to detail. (He almost failed my car once due to the rear wiper being bad, but he cut my hubs some slack after hubs said he did have it in the car to put on). Oh and forget it if your tags are not on the car even if you just got them; he won't do the job til they are on! So yeah frustrating for you, but also it's his job on the line as well. Untrustworthy! I went in for a simple oil change, they changed my cabin air filter without permission. I guess this is what happens when you try to trust the local car shop. Took my car in for idling issues, Corey says leave it I'll check it. Not only wasn't he able to figure what my issue is, he charged me $136 for just he's best guess of what May be causing the issue. No work was actually done to my car. I could understand a small fee for attempting to fix my car but I think $136 is way to much for the little effort that was put into it. read more

Was able to get the safety inspection done for my vehicle quickly and easily. I called prior to arriving and Corey was very nice and straightforward with me over the phone. He gave me all the information so I was prepared when I walked in the following day. (Advised I needed ORIGINALS of insurance & registration). I dropped off my car and he gave me: an ETA for when the inspection would be completed, advised me of the amount that would be owed, and that payment had to be cash. Based on the other reviews it seems like you either love Corey or you hate him. Well... I definitely don't hate him. He worked on my van a few times. Took care of the brakes, battery, engine mount and other small jobs. When i needed a rebuilt transmission he even helped me get in touch with a guy that could do it for a very reasonable price. A dealer would have charged me a lot more for the rebuild. In my experience he is honest in saying wether it is worth getting the work done by him or not or if you should wait or go somewhere else. Some people may take that as poor customer service. I take it as being straight forward in honest. I didn't have any issues with my safety inspection by Corey. He's done a few small jobs on my gf's Kia too. Fixed the AC today. Very reasonable prices every time. Honest work. read more

Can I give zero stars? Worst customer service ever. And I never complain and rarely write negative reviews. I had to get my safety inspection done first, then get my registration, then back to safety to show proof of registration. I did all this and he told me to come back after the weekend at the end of the day to finish it off. I do that and he says sorry he is busy, I ask can i make an appoint and he says "no I don't do that." I'm like ok, when do I come? He said he doesn't know and is busy. I go again two days later and he again says he's busy, i then said can i get an appointment or if not give me back my money. He says no. Sooooo he's rude and hustles people. Expensive, and Corey is rude. I needed the starter in my car changed, he wanted almost $500 for the job. The dealer was charging $200 less! The dealer is never supposed to be the cheaper option. He's done my safety a couple times, and has failed me for the smallest things like a mildly dirty headlight. His customer service skills also suck. I always get an attitude from him, like I'm a big inconvenience to his day. I've tried to make small talk and he shrugs me off. He doesn't even try to be friendly. So guys... This might sound like more of a rant than a review, but please hear me out. My car has been making this god awful noise for about a week and a half so I decided to take it into Corey's for an oil change and to figure out the problem. 3 hours and $70 later he tells me it's the alternator. K, I go out and buy a $250 alternator and get it installed the next day.. Turn the car on and what do I hear.. the same god awful noise. So I take it elsewhere to get it checked and they told me it's actually something completely different that's going to cost me $300. Needless to say I made the mistake so you don't have to. Corey's Auto Care has always given me excellent customer service and fair pricing for vehicle maintenance, safety checks, and other services that required a mechanic. I have been taking my cars to him since 1996 when his shop was where Longs in Kailua is now, I finally found a mechanic I could TRUST! His newer location at Aikahi Shopping Center has been super convenient since I live a couple blocks away. I will always use Corey's Auto Care even if he has to relocate from the Aikahi location because he is the very best mechanic on Oahu in my opinion. Some people simply don't realize the amount of time involved in taking care of what "they think" is a simple fix. The way some cars are manufactured now days take more time to replace a part or to fix it so that will obviously cost more i.e., my battery needed replacing which I thought was simple and I tried to do it myself. It was crazy the parts that needed to be removed just to replace the battery. I decided to call Corey and let him deal with it because it was just too much trouble for me. For years, I have been taking my vehicles to his shop for services and safety inspections and I'm always met with a smile and friendly service. What many fail to realize is that he is normally working by himself and always has a full workload. He is thorough in his inspections and as long as you bring the proper documentation/information, service goes smooth. If he does not have a particular part, he will go out and get it (or order it, depending on the vehicle). I found a gem in Kailua. Corey Wong the owner was so fast and efficient. I shared with him that I was a little late because I needed to put gas as my gas light was on. He explained why I shouldn't wait for my gas light to go on and potential damage to my fuel pump. No one has ever told me about that! Yikes! He cares enough to teach. My family and I have been Cory's customers, and now friends, since 2005. Cory is a straight shooter who loves fixing cars with passion. Because of our trust in Cory, we have managed to keep and maintain our Honda CRV for 17 years. Other than the usual old car's wear and tear, the CRV runs great. Cory once saved us a new windshield that could have cost us $700 to replace, by recommending a low cost plumbing solution that we used to clean up the stubborn dark film on our windshield. Honda dealer in Kaneohe and two other mechanics told us there is nothing we could do but to change the windshield. More recently, he changed my Mazda's breaks, but the new part was defected and made noise. He changed the part very quickly with no charge. It turned out the new part was also defective and very quickly caused problems. As soon as, I mentioned it to Cory, he once again changed the break with no charge. Wanted to support a local business and then it bites me in the @$$...The owner (I think) isn't friendly, which you would think he would be since that's how you gain loyal customers with small businesses. Anyways, went in for a safety inspection. He didn't tell me until I handed him my papers and keys that it's a flat rate wether or not you pass or fail?!?! That should have been a warning sign for me, but I was desperate and figured I'd pass. Then he said it'll be an hour or so. Flag number two for me but then I'm an idiot I guess you could say. Disappointed at best! I am a big fan of local business so I came here first. I am new to the island (2-weeks at the time) Talking to corey I found him to be a great guy, so I set up a time for an estimate for a repair. I left the car with him for 4 hours. When I returned he said everything had to be replaced and quoted a $350 price. When I got into my car, I noted that he never even looked at the problem. What do you get when you combine a hoarder, hopelessness, and an early 1990s strip mall car repair shop?...Corey's Auto Care. I made the mistake of going to Corey's for a safety check and have never met a small business owner who cares so little about customer service. The place has three auto bays but only one had enough room for a car to pull inside as the other two were blocked by piles of junk. He told me that he takes card payments for everything except safety inspections after I got there and needed cash. I told him I had to run over to Safeway next door for cash and he huffed and asked if he "really had to stand here and wait for me to get cash". He then told me that if I wasn't waiting outside his shop when he was finished, I would have to wait until morning to to get my car and it was 3:30pm. My safety check failed due to my car having some mysterious suspension problem. After asking what that issue was, he told me he didn't know until I paid to have it put up on the rack. I took it to my dealer and they said absolutely nothing was wrong with it. Very, very disappointed with my wasted time, money, and energy spent going to this place. My Honda would not start shortly after I had a new key made by the dealer. I got the car to Corey's, and after he did a full workup he discovered the problem was the key. The dealer had reprogrammed the 2 keys I gave them, but not the one I did not. Not knowing this, I tried it to start the car with the 3rd key and it failed. It made "starting" noises, but wouldn't turn over. I'm so thankful Corey diagnosed the problem, called me to bring another key, and the car was fine. The rudest car shop I have ever been to in my life. I went to Corey's shop to get a safety inspection one day and he mentioned to me over the phone to bring registration and insurance card. I get to his shop and hand him all of my vehicles paper work, and he slaps it on a table and rudely walks away saying he can't do my inspection because my insurance card isn't the original. I told him that I knew nothing about the law, because my last inspection was done by simply showing the inspection station my insurance on my Geico app. He then proceeds to call me a liar and said that no shop would accept that. If you are haole STAY AWAY! Had a vehicle shipped over from CT to hawaii and it needed a recon permit, got the recon permit in the morning and Corey's was the only place that could do a safety that day, that should have been a red flag! He accused my husband of bringing a copy of the reg- it's not! Its also very unlikely that he is an expert in CT vehicle registrations anyway. Then he failed the safety because of a rusty bumper and SAID that any other place would pass it but he wouldnt. WHAT!? Come on. I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

I called at 3:30 pm and asked if they could squeeze me in for a vehicle inspection. He said if I needed it today he could do it today. I got there at 4:30pm. I had to wait for him to finish other cars for ab an hour but he stayed late and got it done for me. Really saved me on this one. He is a very good mechanic and his work is top notch and my breaks have never squeaked he warranties his work and has had many of my vehicles and they have never come back with the same problem.
