Tenn's absolutely saved the day for me! I originally took my car to the Firestone on Hamakua Drive for a power steering fluid change ($449) and a radiator coolant exchange ($148). When I got home, I noticed power steering fluid leaking onto my carport and saw the fluid level was at the absolute minimum. I went back to Firestone, and they told me they hadn't actually changed the fluid, but rather replaced a leaky hose. They then claimed the low fluid was due to a bad power steering pump and quoted me an additional $900 to replace it. It just didn't sound right, and I felt they were being dishonest. I took my car to Tenn's for a second opinion and showed them the Firestone invoice. Tenn's quickly found the real issue: two entirely different power steering hoses were leaking. They replaced them, and now my steering is perfect with zero leaks. On top of that, Tenn's inspected my coolant system and found both the radiator and reservoir levels were dangerously low because Firestone failed to properly refill the antifreeze after their flush. I have taken my car to Tenn's Auto for safety inspections and they handled those efficiently, on time, and without any issues for several years. I also got help when my a/c failed and they were able to keep my a/c going without a lot more expense on my part. But then my 2010 PT Cruiser seemed to have some serious problems about 4 months ago --initially a dead battery which was replaced on 10/17/25 --but then my car died again within a month and was towed back to Tenn's with what I was told was an anti-theft problem with the key setting off the car's alarm system. Then my car sat for 5 WEEKS while nothing was done until around 12/23/25. I kept calling for updates every week and would be told by the front office staff that they were "short-staffed" and just needed "another week". I also talked directly to the mechanic (Blake) who told me that the car was actually running but he hadn't had time to really investigate what was going on but that he would be able to set aside a few hours before Christmas to figure out what was going on with my car. In the end, the only thing the mechanic could do was put in a temporary battery disconnect system to bypass the key setting off the alarm when I tried to open the car door or turn on the ignition. Except it didn't really work. I texted Blake right after I got my car home and he suggested I wait longer than 5-10 minutes to reset the battery; I should try waiting 15 or 20 minutes. I waited an hour. I tried the next day and the next. I got my car to work once or twice in the next 5 days. But not after that. Tenn's was closed for the holidays until 1/6/26. There was never a way to leave a phone message and my texts to the number that I had previously texted went unanswered. Eventually, I decided to sell my much-loved car for parts since it wasn't running. Two different people showed up who looked at the temporary battery disconnect lever and they were each rather surprised at how it had been installed since it was 1) on the positive battery terminal rather than the negative and 2) it was loose and so close to the metal frame of the car. Evidently this was a risky situation for creating a spark and potential fire each time I used the car. The Tenn's mechanic said on my receipt that my car needed parts that weren't available from their vendor or the dealership (SKIM and PCM module) but as it turned out, I sold my car to someone who was a very experienced mechanic who replaced the worn ignition and got the car running again. It didn't need the two modules that were recommended at all. I'm still really upset because I don't think the Tenn's mechanic knew what he was doing at all but he never gave me the option of taking my car elsewhere; instead he put in a potentially very dangerous and completely inefficient "solution"; wasted a lot of my time and money but most important of all, he undermined my confidence in mechanics in general and Tenn's in particular. read more

I left my car for nearly 8 hours and nothing was done to it and was charged $130 for an "hour" diagnosis. I asked for new terminal connections and they said they couldn't do it today because they were rusty...which isn't the case. Very disappointed. After asking why nothing was done they pointed to sign that says basically we don't guarantee anything. Can't believe I wasted $130 on a bs diagnosis to plug a computer in my car that probably took 5 minutes and they didn't even change my terminal connections. Huge waste of time. 10/10 would not recommend. To answer your reply. I signed the form outside and didn't see the sign inside that says you don't guarantee any work done on time. I guess it was a bad assumption that battery connectors could be changed in 8 hours. I politely asked to first and foremost have my battery connectors replaced but they weren't and I was told it was bc my wiring was rusty, which it wasn't. Instead I did what I should've done in the first place and went to oreillys bought the connectors myself and was able to fix it myself in 1.5 hours and I'm not a mechanic. Sadly I worked all day and came home to more work. It wasn't an issue with time constraint, I just don't trust you guys will do what you say you will do in a somewhat timely fashion. My gaskets were already changed and the rattling is not coming from there. read more

I sent a website contact form and was notified by text I had an appointment a few days later. I went in for an oil change and they got it done in a few hours. I live close by so so was able to walk home while waiting, it would not have been comfortable to wait there. There is also a Starbucks across the street. Cost seemed high ($200 for an Audi oil change) but it's my first island auto service and I usually go to the dealership so it's likely comparable. They kept me updated and charged what they quoted. They didn't try to sell me on anything else despite me asking for them to check it over for anything else I may need. read more

Wow, I am so glad I found this place. I took my car to a dealership service station for a safety check and was told I need a couple of things done. They were going to charge over $400, so I said no thanks. Tenn's is really close to my house, and I pass it all the time. Since it is walkable and my husband has used them before, he called them and they charged $200 for the same work. Literally half the price. I took my car first thing in the morning and it was PACKED. The woman behind the counter was very nice and informed me that my car would be there for most of the day. That was totally fine, so I walked back home. They contacted my husband to let him know my car was done in the afternoon and he contacted me. Apparently, they were very clear with him that they charge extra for credit card, but unfortunately, the memo was not passed to me. That is totally on us, but I would note to others that they charge for credit card and they don't take check! So make sure you have cash on you, unlike I did! It was a different woman helping me during pick up, and she was also very nice and friendly. I really appreciate their work and their prices and will definitely be using them from now on for all car services. read more

So thankful they could fit me in this morning. I wasn't too keen on bringing my car in into the other Auto Shops In Kailua (bad experiences) but I remembered this place since I frequent Enchanted Shopping Center. Maybe it's bc their lot always looks packed it seemed silly to try to make an appointment for a simple oil change. But the women who picked up the phone was extremely friendly and willing to help me find a slot for drop off. They quoted me a couple hours for the wait time but finished earlier which was a plus. They give a small discount if you use cash which I appreciated. All the workers were very pleasant and efficient. Extra kudos that they text to confirm your Appointment and if needed, they text to notify you on estimate updates and when your car is completed.. which I lovvvve bc I'm antisocial. Great business! Heard some good things about Tenn's. They were quick to respond to me. However, now I'm a bit leery. The door handle on my truck is clearly broken, and it's just your old school door handle with no electrical, and hand crank windows. I took it to two other mechanics to get estimates, no problem. When I contacted Tenn's, I was told it will cost me $130 to "diagnose" my broken door handle...HUH?! I even mentioned the make & year ('03) to Tenn's, but I guess they need to run a test... So I scheduled to take my truck in to the other shop and when I mentioned it to the Tech/Mechanic, he said that does NOT sound right. FYI to all get at least 3 estimates... read more

This is the first time I ever used Tenn's auto repair. My son in law always goes to them. Well this time I went to them and so happy I did. I didn't know we had a top notch repair shop right here in Kailua They are honest and fair. BMW aren't cheap to repair but I felt they were very fair for all the work they did. I thought something wasn't working correctly and they said bring it right in. All it was I didn't have the air on the right settings. My fault but they were so nice. Thank you very much!! read more

"Walked away Scott free" says no one ever from an auto shop. Went in for a brake check since mine had been screeching. Let's just say I've had to replace rotors more then the average driver. Leaned on the side of caution this time around. Got a state inspection as well. Received a nice surprise at pick up - both were free. First 100 folks starting today get a free inspection! My tech and Lori were super helpful as well. Definitely plan to use these guys again. read more

Told to bring car in first thing on Monday morning. Work not even begun until Thursday afternoon. Poor communication. Said they'd call with updates but didn't. We had to keep calling . Receptionist ignorant and rude. "Nope we haven't done anything since you last called". Finally diagnosed problems on day 9. Said they'd try to get it done by the weekend. Ended up giving the car back without completing the work. Two weeks! Junk! Will never go there again. They just tell Everyone to bring it in Monday and then play Tetris with the cars all week. We took both of our cars in for oil changes a week ago. During the course of the oil changes, they found the brakes and rotors were bad on our truck. They called us right away, Pat talked us through the prices, and were able to get the work done that day. Friendly, efficient, not the cheapest but a fair price. When we drove our hybrid off the lot after the oil change, the check engine light came on. We took her back, they looked, couldn't diagnose, and asked us to come back the next weekend. We did. Daniel said "it may be dirt that got sucked in when we checked the air filter last week during the oil change. I'll take a look." At 3:00 pm, they called and said the car was ready to pick up. I said "great, no problems?". The lady at the front desk said "we replaced the air sensor". I said "great! No charge?" She laughed and said "ha! No, it's $186 plus tax and labor." I went to pick up the car and explained it is bad business to fix someone's car to the time of $250 and not tell them prior to completing the work. She said "well, we will just take the part out!" Then she said "did you bring this car from the mainland? It's the salt air." (Really? I look like I was born yesterday?) I don't think we will be back. This may be one of the reasons car shops get a reputation for shady business. read more

First off, let me say the mechanics treated me with respect and were very professional. That being said, nothing but bad experiences here. Made appointments for safety checks and oil changes on multiple occasions, and ended up waiting 45-60+ minutes on every instance. I previously went to them for an oil change, and decided that on the next oil change I would do it myself. Fast forward to the next oil change, and I can't remove the oil plug. I'm no mechanic, but I know enough to know that the oil plug is only supposed to be a little more than hand tight to prevent shearing the bolt; this thing seemed like it was put on with a torque wrench. I called Tenn's and told them about the situation, and requested if I could come in so they could loosen the nut. I was then informed that I would need to schedule an appointment, and that they would charge me for loosening the nut. Tenn's has lost my business for life; would rather drive out of my way than deal with stuff like this. read more
