I'll have to preface this review with a disclaimer. I do not like having to leave a bad review. I always like to try and find the good in things. That being said.... here.. we.. go. This place is in Rockbook Village which in its heyday was considered West Omaha and it always had good nightlife going on. It seems like the area is still trying to cling onto being a fancy area and this wine bar is an example of that. The interior has hardly any decorations of note. Wire management of cameras or maybe speaker wires just hanging all over the ceiling and it just looks terrible. There is absolutely zero sound dampening so it's pretty loud in this place. My group sat down at some couches that remind me of something that would be in a dorm or first apartment. They are way too deep and the cushions are worn out so you sink in pretty good. Also they are fabric so you can see all the great evidence left by other patrons. The charcuterie board was laughable. It looks like they purchased a party platter from Sams or Costco and then divided that into 10 separate servings. Didn't even come with utensils to apply the small amount of mustard onto anything. Overall that food was a complete waste of money so don't get it because i already took one for the team. If you are going to spend ten to fifteen dollars for roughly 2oz of wine there are MUCH better options that have the 'pomp and circumstance' that come along with an expensive price tag. read more

Went to corkscrew tonight to get a bite to eat. While the kitchen menu has expanded I'm sad to say it's not as good. You used to be able to get a meat and cheese board in one. Now you have to get a cheese and a meat separately. The quality and variety of meat and cheese used to be WAY better. With Casanova butchery now open in rockbrook that where I will be headed. A great place for patio hangs. We went on a Friday afternoon and while it was sunny we were able to find a shaded table. There were quite a few people there and it looked like even a party. Walk in and choose a drink from the menu or walk up the wine wall and pick your own bottle. FYI- they will charge you a $5 corking fee to open the bottle even if you drink the whole thing there. Never had that before so that's why I gave 4 stars. Otherwise everything else was great. The Brie was perfect with the Chardonnay on a sunny afternoon. Everyone around us, literally all of the tables, had the Daou Chardonnay so that's going to be the next thing I get! This is my first time at the corkscrew wine and cheese. It's a very nice location that has both indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed a wonderful Barata, charcuterie, board,and truffled popcorn, to accompany a glass or two of wine with old friends. The food was great and nicely presented. The wine selections are fantastic and club membership is available that offers discounts as well as reduced corkage fee on any bottle of wine purchased in the store. The only thing that was out of order with this particular visit was the service. The server who was working bar and tables was clearly not having the best of days! We mentioned some problems with the individual working in the kitchen and after a conversation with the server things seem to get a little bit better. Had our server offered a little bit more kindness we would've easily given this location the five stars it really does deserve. read more

I came in for an enjoyable afternoon with some wine and a charcuterie board. It's a cute little place and the servers are nice and it's in a beautiful green area. However...it's one of the smallest wine pours I've ever had. That's not my biggest concern though. The cheese and charcuterie board....for $25...is the weirdest board I've ever had. Someone needs to go back to culinary school and learn cheese boards 101. The cheese was all chopped up into little tiny pieces (???) as if the chef is a new parent and got used to chopping up tiny pieces of cheese for their toddler....and there wasn't a lick of fig jam or some other spread to accompany the bread. I've just never seen such a bland boring board before. It's too bad. It's a cute place but I'd be nervous to try anything else to eat here. read more

We picked up a few platters for a small birthday gathering and they could not have been more of a hit! Just the right amount of food and everything was perfectly executed. My personal fave, the first to go, was the bruschetta with fresh savory tomatoes and I'm not sure of the cheese, but it was incredible. The bread and dill dip was great, it was like the perfect mix of hard and soft pita. I enjoyed all of the options that were ordered and don't regret a single calorie. But the hidden gem is Corkscrew's Homemade Baked Mac & Cheese. This combination of cavatappi, panko, smoked paprika and chives has a certain je ne sais quoi that I can't even explain. The ambiance inside is warm and embracing, while outside (in the patio area) provides just the right amount of "chill" that makes it perfect for a date or a small gathering of friends. Getting back to the staff, it's composed of a knowledgeable and friendly crew who really seem dedicated to ensuring an unforgettable experience. They bounce between the bar, the tables and the patio seamlessly. Aside from the Mac, they offer an assortment of meat and cheese trays ranging from a cheese board to meatballs. I was pleased as to how each cheese was perfectly paired with the perfect wine, allowing for an unmatched tasting experience. While not really being a wine connoisseur or even an enthusiast, I relied heavily on the staff's knowledge (who were more than eager to educate and share their passion for each pairing). I was so surprised to find out they also have a patio as that was one of the reasons we'd been going to the black stone location more than this one but this is much closer to our house! Overall a fantastic place to meet up for a drink and have a light snack. The ambience is perfect: casual but elegant. Plenty of seating choices from high tops to regular tables to a large L-shaped couch in the corner. I enjoyed the large selection of wine by the glass (at least 25) and the light snack menu. We ordered the meat and cheese for two and enjoyed it. There was a prosciutto and a salami for meat and they were both rich and complemented our Malbec nicely. We tried three cheeses: the Iowa maytag bleu and double cream Brie were very nice but the cows milk Italian cheese on the plate fell flat. It tasted quite bland, despite the red pepper flakes in it. They also have decent beers for those not so fond of wine. Our group enjoyed a Zipline and Deschutes. Prices were decent, but the service wasn't excellent. It started it well enough when there were only a few tables taken up but the busier it got, the more our service suffered. read more

I love Corkscrew. With this being their flagship location, I have been here on and off over the past 10 years - primarily if I am looking to pick up a nice bottle of wine. On a recent Monday night I enjoyed HH with a girlfriend and was really impressed with our server's knowledge of wine and the small plates we shared. We opted for a small bowl of olives ($4) and a smoked salmon platter that came with a soft cheese with capers, more olives, tasty bread and lemon. As far as ambiance goes, the location in Blackstone does have more to offer with their patio and outdoor fire pits, but this location is cozy and has nice large windows at the back of the shop. I think the addition of a fireplace would be excellent here. read more

This was a 5 star visit until I met with my dessert and the attitude/ineptitude of the chef. The wine selection here is fantastic - there's a wide selection of wines at a variety of price points and the Cab we chose was fantastic. Our waitress was a sweetheart and did a great job of walking the fine line between very attentive and overly-so/annoying. We ordered a Cheese Board and the Tomato Bruschetta for our dinner and I highly recommend both. The Cheese Board had a lovely variety (I do love a Stilton Bleu) and the tomatoes on the bruschetta were fresh and flavorful. Then dessert... I ordered the Creme Brulee and upon cutting through the caramelized sugar I was met with something cold and soupy in consistency. When I called the waitress over to inquire if this was normal (knowing full well it was not) she apologized and took it back to the kitchen. She returned a few minutes later, clearly embarrassed, and told me that she would be taking the dessert off of my bill and that the chef said that was the way the Creme Brulee always was. I questioned on her on it. "Really?! Creme Brulee should be custard-like in texture. Not runny and cold." She agreed and apologized again, clearly at a loss as to what to do other than to offer me a different dessert, which I declined. I've been to the Blackstone location a few times but doubt I will return to this one. A "chef" should know that Creme Brulee is not cold soup... AND should have the professionalism to acknowledge and fix a mistake when he makes one. read more

That's my normal attire when popping into Corkscrew to pick up a bottle or two of wine. My neighborhood bottle shop, prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and the selection covers a wide range of price points. I like that you can describe your flavor profile (and price point) and they're pretty spot on with wine recommendations. I tend to zip in and out, looking disheveled and questionable, so it's a rare occasion that I actually hang out at this establishment. The decor is clean and open. Choose from one of the plush seating areas, table/chair arrangements or chill out at the bar. Buy wine by the glass or by the case...er, I mean bottle. During nice weather months, the patio with fireplace is a nice option, especially for dog owners who want to bring their four-legged friends to Yappy Hour. Food items are limited but artfully displayed. I should probs just stick with the bottle shop concept. Not just because I love sweatpants, but because "let's meet up for a glass of wine" turns into "let's mortgage our houses to pay for our bill" type of situation. It wasn't nice enough to sit on the patio, but it looks like a cozy spot for a future visit. We were greeted immediately. Our server let us pick out a table and asked us if we had been there before. We hadn't and she went over all of the basic information that we needed to know. She was extremely personable and it really added to our experience. We had the meat and cheese plate and although it was a pretty basic assortment, it was good and reasonably priced. The bread was served warm and it was delicious. They have a large wine selection both on the menu, but also within the store if you want to select something else. My fiance actually had beer with his food, whereas I stuck with wine. L9ved the wine and the food despite they have no bur champagne by the glass or by the split. I bought a full bottle. My companion and I had a lovely nosh, totally over 100 including tip. AND THEN I asked them to recork the champagne. These devices are offered everywhere, are easy to use and maintain pressure. (yes, they are anticipated and that is bad but they can be reused!! Most wine shops have them. Not this one. They recorked my brut champagne with a cork from another bottle of red wine. I drove 3 miles and the entire bottle exploded all over the interior of my front and back seat, a bouquet of silk flowers and curtains I was to hang at Mom's. This happened while I was driving. Thankfully, I didn't have much of that champagne or I would have wrecked. Now I need to have the entire car pro cleaned and shower when I get home. I will stick to LaBuvette and other places that know wine and how to handle it from now on. Lesson learned! read more
