My wife and I ordered a large barbecue sandwich with the sauce and coleslaw already on it and split it (we're small people and didn't want left overs) and she also ordered a side of potato salad, the goal was to have room for desert. They brought us out some free bread and butter that was tasty! The sandwich was satisfying. The server was nice. It was cold in the restaurant so I went out to get some long sleeves. My wife barely ate any of her potato salad (and it was a surprisingly small portion size) then offered it to me. I tried it and it tasted strong of mayonnaise. (and I like mayo!) I noticed what appeared to be little pieces of stringy meat. I've never had meat in potato salad. It was weird and I didn't like it either. We asked the waitress what was in it, she went to ask the chef, and came back to tell us it only had 3 ingredients: potatoes, mayo, and bacon. No wonder we didn't like it! We ordered peach cobbler ala mode for desert, and it arrived warm, yellow vanilla ice cream was cool and melting and that helped take the yucky taste out of our mouths. Desert was more quantity than quality and when the bill arrived I noticed that they did not charge us for the ice cream but did still charge us for the potato salad. $22.47 + $4.53 tip = $27 total for an okay experience that could have been better. read more

The drive through was wrapped twice around the parking lot. Our waitress was friendly, knew the menu, and was prompt with refills and service. We started of the meal with the pulled pork nachos. A table for 4 shared this easily. We all go a different meal and shared. I had the rib & chicken plate. I asked for my 1/2 slab of ribs To be half dry and half wet, therefore the middle section was "muddy" (according to the menu). OH MY GOODNESS!!! They were amazing. Multiple Corky's in town... best are the two Poplar locations (Memphis & Collierville locations) and this is 3rd in quality. The service yesterday was fine for lunch. I had the Catfish dinner was good and fresh. Waitress was prompt with serve. I should have remembered to sit in the darker part of the restaurant. My problems are the flies that seem to be at the window seats at this location. 2nd trip in two months and same issue. They don't seem to be able to control the flies which are a normal Memphis issue in the summer. Fly electronic traps or strips need so stay away from the windows they seem be attracted too the sun. read more

BBQ - the name just says home for me. Okay to be fair, I'm from Texas so Memphis style is different, but man is it oh so good too! The hubby and I started out with some catfish nuggets. Okay technically not BBQ, but come on - fried catfish, well how could you go wrong. Definitely not us! It was crispy, not greasy and the breading was just enough (not so much that you felt like you got no fish). For our meal, we opted to get a slab half and half (wet/dry). Both were excellent - my personal preference is the wet. I felt like I could really get more of that smoky flavor and the dry needed a little something in the rub to make it stand out more. This was a pretty decent meal, but I was not really blown away with the food as I was hoping I would be after reading through the reviews. I got the ribs dry style, which I've never had before. They had a pretty decent flavor, but I found myself disliking the thick coating of spices the more I ate.....I was kind of hoping for more of a smoke flavor that I think was getting hidden by the thick dusting of spices. The chicken was surprisingly dry, so not too happy about that. Hush puppies were very dry and seemed over-fried. The Corky's BBQ sauce on the table was very good, and I would dip my pieces of rib meat into it. Mac&Cheese.....eh....I've never had a mac&cheese that I considered good at any BBQ place.....I can make it way better. This place was my second BBQ restaurant that I've tried here in Memphis, and it was decent for being not too far away, but I don't know if I can see myself going here too often. After a late check-in at our hotel and craving some barbeque, I found this chain, located a short drive from where we were staying. Supposedly, it's a Memphis institution. This location is in the 'burbs, east of the city. With parents who were tired from driving all day and didn't want to eat out, I placed a to go order that was ready in about 20 minutes. Located in a strip mall in Cordova, the large interior was dominated by plenty of flair that was part Disney-esque and over the top. But the food is the only thing that really matters. The rib and beef combo ($19.99) consisted of a half rack of ribs covered with a dry rub showcasing a great mix of heat, tang, and sweet and tender and moist brisket with a sauce bordering on being too sweet. The regular order of wet ribs ($16.99) were also a touch sweet, but the smokiness from the fall-off-the-bone meat made up for it. Finishing up the meal was a slice of their Karo pecan pie ($3.99), heavy on the corn syrup with ample amounts of pecans, it may not be the best, but it definitely hit the spot. With a few locations in Tennessee and neighboring states, this growing chain is good enough to fill your barbeque needs in a pinch. read more

Very disappointed. We ordered 100 dollars worth of food and received horrible customer service. The guy taking my order was rude and rushing me while I was trying to read a list of orders to him. Then, once we finally got the order, a sandwich was missing. Cool, mistakes happen. When we got back home, one of the 6 wings that comes in an order was basically a bone that had been cooked. All of the sides of baked beans had maybe 10 actual beans in them and the rest was sauce. They literally gave us the scraps of whatever was left and were rude about it instead of simply saying they were basically out of certain things. So we paid 100 dollars for scraps of food. There wasn't any banana in the banana pudding. I got half and half ribs and it was dry and not seasoned. The sauce and rub was on top of the ribs so I guess that was supposed to make up for the dryness. Green beans was salty but a good size amount and the cole slaw was just like any other cole slaw. The catfish and hush puppies was edible and the bread was okay. Not a much visit if you are in the area. Figured I'd keep it simple, so I ordered the pulled pork sandwich for takeout. They had the sandwich ready maybe 3 minutes after I paid for it. I was traveling from Texas back to Ohio with my mother and she decided she wanted to stop for the night. She saw Corky's and she wanted to stop. I had told her, you don't travel out of state and eat what you have at home, So we stopped at Corky's. We in Tennessee, so you need to eat bbq. Granted it was about an hour until closing. We go in and there was a nice ambiance of country music, but no host. We stood there for about 30 seconds before a female host came over and took us to a table (booth). I asked the hostess what she recommended because we were from out of town. She suggested the half/half of ribs with the four sides. So we got that order and my mom had water while I had Rootbeer since they didn't have Pepsi. The rolls that were brought out were hard as bricks. The ribs came out and they looked okay, but nothing to write home about. The ribs had very little meat and no flavor (The sign in the lobby said these were the Top 10 ribs in the country). The meat was tough (award winning ribs, should have the meat falling off the bone), The wet sauce had no kick and the dry rub tasted like cayenne pepper/paprika thrown on top of the ribs. The French fries were supposed to be season, but they were plain (unsatisfactory). The pork and beans were no Bush's Baked Beans. My mother agreed with my assumptions. She had the green beans that was swimming in juice. The waitress (a nice young girl) asked if we wanted a box. We declined and I said; "you should pay us to eat here". On the way out I looked at the awards, and the last reward was 2013, so things must have declined after that. One plaque showed Red, Hot & Blue in the same competition. In my opinion, Corky's is no where close to the caliber of Red, Hot, Blue. I read the other yelp reviews and I am sure Elizabeth will give the same response she gave others as they strive to be better based on the reviews. From what I had, they should close down. Very very disappointed. Long time customer (several years). Had an UberEats order delivered on Monday evening. The order was in a stapled bag with the servers name on the ticket. The sausage and cheese plate had just a few slices of cheese and some pickles. No sausage. Phoned the restaurant and explained the situation, including the servers name. Was told to take it up with Uber. Reiterated that the driver did nothing wrong, and was told the restaurant couldn't do anything. What happened to customer service? Ordered take-out for 14 people last night - it renewed my faith in my "years ago" great experiences with Corky's. Last year's wasn't so good (it was from a different location), but last night's food was great. We had the "triple threat" - ribs, bbq chicken, beans, slaw, extra sauce, dinner rolls and rolls for sandwiches. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. I ate WAY too much and enjoyed every morsel. Corky's was our go-to for BBQ every time were were in Memphis. The food USED to be delicious and the service was fabulous. We were there in July 2022 and it was some of the worst BBQ I have had. The pork was not tender and moist like it used to be. And the chicken dinner was a joke: The meat was tough and it was a paltry piece of chicken. Additionally, the sides were not tasty like they had been in the past: The cole slaw tasted soured, the potato salad was bland, the mac and cheese tasted like it was made out of a box, and the seasoned fries were not well-seasoned. The bread was ok, tho. The server pretty much ignored us and there were only a few occupied tables. My suggestion: Go to Payne's or try another BBQ place because Corky's has gone WAYYYYY downhill. read more

In Memphis on business and was told Corky's was the place to go. I came on a cold Monday evening so it wasn't crowded. I ordered the dry rub ribs and they were "OK". They were a bit dry so that kept them from being amazing. The pork was very flavorful and the rub accented the meat well. I tried the sauce (to make them more moist) and that helped tremendously. What happened?... I've been going to Corky's ever since I was a kid. So first, it's Friday night and there is barely anyone there... that's a sign. There are four of us at first, then we just add a person. The hostess wouldn't reseat us so we wouldn't have to pull up a chair. There were big tables everywhere. She was kind mumbling the whole time like she really didn't give a shit about her job. I finally just gave up and went back to our table. Our waitress took our order, brought us our food, and then never came back - until it was time to take our plates. No water refill, no extra sauces, extra napkins, nothing. One of us waited for silverware the whole time. Lastly, I got the beef brisket plate - which is 14 dollars and came with ONLY four slices of brisket... which oddly enough wasn't very lean or tender. Kinda charred and black goo all over it. Maybe everyone was having an off night, but no employee working there acted like they wanted to be there. Food was NOT Corky's quality. I was really disappointed I've gone to the original Corky's before and it was amazing. Since this location was more on my drive, I stopped here. Most have a drive through which is convenient. I ordered a pulled pork sammich and some Hushpuppies. The sammich pork felt old, granted, the cole slaw on top was chilled, but it was a bland taste. Not sure what happened there. The cole slaw was excellent as was the bbqsauce, but left the meat something to be desired. The hughpuppies were over fried cornmeal. As a Memphis native, you're not going to find a better barbecue joint than Corky's. This place consistently has the best and freshest barbecue around. Rendezvous, Neely's, Germantown Commissary, Central, are all decent, but Corky's is #1 in my 21 years of eating barbecue. Wait time: On a busy night, it usually takes no longer than 20 or so minutes. Definitely worth the wait. Atmosphere: It has an old timey feel with neon signs & wooden overlay with old school Elvis & rock'n roll playing in the background. Service: Very friendly and professional staff. The wait time for the food can be a solid 15-20 minutes, but they always make sure you have enough rolls & your drinks are topped off while you wait. Food: Outstanding! The ribs fall right off the bone and melt in your mouth. I would suggest going with the dry rub (my favorite). The food is always smokin hot and fresh no matter what you order. Driving through Memphis and decided to stop by! This place is known for their dry ribs and they were wonderful! We did a full rack half dry half wet. Also ordered a fully loaded Memphis style baked potato with pulled chicken, that was okay I'm not a fan of bbq sauce in my baked potato. For the appetizer we got half a loaf of onion rings, it came on a knife, it was huge for half a loaf, I can't imagine what a full loaf looks like. Service here was great. I'm from Southern CA, so while we have BBQ there, it's nothing like Memphis. Having spent close to 3 weeks in Memphis over the last 2 years, I've had a chance to experience legit Memphis BBQ; Corky's was my first experience. A little over a year ago, I went here, and now I'm glad I waited to write the review. So, take this filtered through the lens of having experienced amazing Memphis BBQ. I came here my first full night in Memphis with a co-worker. We were determined to eat BBQ on our first day, and this place didn't disappoint (or so we thought, at the time). I had preemptively made a list of all of the BBQ places to try in and around Memphis, and this was on it. It was near our hotel, so it made complete sense. I don't remember what he ordered (it was a year ago, give me a break!), but I do remember what I ordered. I got the full slab of ribs for 1 meal, and subbed out Mac & Cheese for the cole slaw. I ordered the ribs wet (which I've come to realize is my preference), and overall was satisfied. Corky's was as good as any BBQ I had ever eaten up until that point. In fact, we walked away from the meal feeling like we had just had amazing BBQ. We soon realized that we were just hitting the tip of the iceberg. So more about Corky's, specifically. The ribs were good, as were the beans. So was the mac & cheese. I think it's one of those places that if you're looking for a good starter/intro to Memphis BBQ, this could be it. Their prices are fairly reasonable (compared to the independent BBQ shops), and you get pretty good portions. I also bought some sauce to take home, and I remember thinking, "Man, this is a good deal!" I think, ultimately Corky's is doomed by the fact that Memphis is the home of BBQ, and there are SO many other places to go in the near vicinity that are better; stick this place anywhere in SoCal, and you've got lines out the door. Hell, stick this place in Vegas, Oregon, anywhere west of the Rockies, and you've got a hit. But Memphis? I'm sure they'll stay in business and do nicely with some expansion, but they're definitely not on my "must-return" list, and I'm guessing that's the case for many a...Memphian? Memphite? I don't know - basically, if you live in or around Memphis, you've got other options that will blow this out of the water. If you're visiting Memphis, it'll be a good warm-up to the BBQ treasures that await you. One last note - the service was really good here. I remember walking away thinking, "Wow, people in the South are really nice!" Kudos to Corky's on that! read more

A party of 10 for a lunch meeting, it took the staff a while to get the tables set up and they weren't busy at all. There was construction going on at the bar area so the place reaked of wood finish. When we finally got seated the service was pretty good, we all got served at the same time,apps were hot and delicious. The ribs as always were done just right. Late lunch there yesterday around 4. Great service from Jonathan. Seated right away, as there were only about 3-4 other tables of diners in the place. Our food arrived in a timely manner. It was good. Not awesome, but good. However ... that being said, there are some serious management issues going on that are, unfortunately, going to cause them serious problems if not addressed right away. First, the dining room was not at all busy, but the drive-thru was. So there were several waitstaff inside (more waiters than tables) that could've been helping in other areas that needed attention. The ladies restroom desperately needed a good cleaning. While we were waiting for our food, a man came from the kitchen and told the hostess (or bartender) that when taking anymore phone orders to tell them it would be much longer than usual because the kitchen was "backed up." We finished eating and while I sat near the front door, right by the hostess stand, waiting for my husband, that's when things seemed to be heading downhill fast. It was 4:32. A man and woman came from the dining area and while the man headed out the door, the lady stepped toward the bar and said, "we've been sitting over there for 15 minutes and have yet to even be acknowledged, even though several waitstaff passed our table several times, so we're leaving." A couple of employees just looked at her like they didn't know what to do, then finally the hostess asked where they were sitting. She told her and the hostess said, "I'm sorry."' And then just stood there. No offer to get the manager, no offer to try to rectify the situation, no offer to try to make it right. Just let 'em walk out the door. So they did, with a promise to call management. And there were PLENTY of waitstaff on the floor at that time, with very few tables. Then a man came out from the kitchen and told the hostess that if anyone came in for inside dining, to tell them it would be at least a 15-20 minute wait, again saying something about the kitchen issues. (Remember, the dining room is empty except for three tables at this time.). The hostess was standing about 4 feet from me so I asked, "are y'all short handed in the kitchen today?" (I realize restaurants are having difficulty getting workers.). Imagine my surprise when she said, "no, but several are on break and the drive- thru is really busy!" As a former restaurant manager, I about choked when she said that SEVERAL employees were ON BREAK during an extremely busy time!! Are you kidding me??? So, just then. a man came in, one single lone man, to dine in and she told him it would be about 15 minutes. He was pretty perplexed, noticing the empty tables and booths all over the place, but sat down to wait. Then a woman with a long, grayish ponytail/braid (waitperson? Not sure) came up and said, in a very angry voice, "DON'T SEAT ANYONE UNTIL 5 O'CLOCK!! NOBODY!!!" It was 4:35, by this time. Then the angry lady said, "I'm going outside!" and promptly proceeded out there from door. Very helpful when your kitchen is going up in flames (not literally, of course). Coming in as we left was a large party, obviously there to celebrate a birthday (balloons were a good hint). They had called ahead because while sitting there, I had heard one waiter tell the hostess, "when my party gets here, go ahead and seat them, table is ready." As we left, all I could do was wonder "are they really going to keep all those people standing around at the front of the restaurant for the next 25 minutes, after they'd already called ahead?" My second thought was ... "this is going to be the Saturday night from hell for employees and customers alike at this Corky's tonight!!" Well, I love Corky's. I placed an order through UberEats but there wasn't an option to order a drink. Immediately after I placed my order, I called the restaurant to ask if they could add a sweet tea to my order and allow me to pay over the phone. The young man who answered the phone said he needed to check, then he asked a woman who said that they couldn't add a drink to UberEats orders. When I inquired about paying separately, the guy just said they couldn't do that (but I didn't feel like he really knew whether they could). He seemed really annoyed with me, so I asked if I could speak to someone else. He then put me on hold for several minutes, until I eventually hung up. So that sucked, but then my food arrived. Was out of town, traveling and went here through the drive-through about a half an hour before closing..... not only had they shut the fry station down where you couldn't order any fried foods they had the nerve to have a combo where they gave you two side item for five dollars..... why in the blue Hell, when I ordered a side of corn and some mac & cheese, they had the nerve to give me the most pathetic sides I've ever seen. The mac & cheese came in a 1 ounce container ramekin... and they gave me I have a ear of corn, how dare you try to charge me five dollars for that when I got to my hotel and open the Styrofoam I was noticeably pissed.... A cobette and 1 ounce of mac & cheese for five dollars.???!!! You've got to be kidding me I understand we were in inflationary timed , but that was just a flat out ripoff.... to the credit the jumbo Pulled chicken sandwich was good though and plenty but the sides totally I could've done without I'm over it.
