Oh my goodness, this is the best fried chicken that you can find! I used to believe the Amish in Shipshewana, IN have the best fried chicken, but the Cornbread's Restaurant chicken is much better. Actually all food that we ordered was great! We ordered desert to go, it was a lot of food:))) And the carrot cake and peach cobbler were delish! All food is fresh, and homemade. I also liked the atmosphere at the restaurant, it is nice and cozy and more importantly very clean. Staff is very nice, welcoming, and friendly. We are definitely going to go back! We decided after almost 2 hours of Yelp searching for a open soul food restaurant. Called they stated yes we're open and available for business. We arrived and was seated promptly. Gumbo was not good at all tasted like chilli, but would have been a good chilli. Others ordered salmon crochettes , fried catfish which they stated we're good . I ordered the B & C's Fried Chicken and it only costed an additional $4 to get white meat (i.e. breasts), and one breast alone was so filling. I got fried okra and mac & cheese as my sides and both were super delicious and flavorful. I was in love with the fried chicken as the meat was juicy and tender but didn't lose out on its crispiness. The leftover chicken breast I took home was just as flavorful when I reheated it up in the oven (would definitely recommend) and I was really impressed by how delicious it still was! The wait for the food can be relatively longer but it's definitely so worth it. Additionally, they have dinner specials until 7 PM for $15 and it comes with a dessert too! Even though we came in even after the dinner special had ended, the waitress was super sweet and still gave us the dessert option for free. The only thing I want to warn you about is that the lemonade drinks that they offer are not the freshly squeezed version I thought they would be, but rather from a soda machine (think Minute Maid lemonade). Great tasting food. I had the fried catfish with greens, okra and mac & cheese. Surprisingly the greens were almost as good as back home. The catfish was better than most I've had around Detroit. I've been hearing about this place for a long time, and finally made it in for lunch today! I'm a self professed lover of corn bread and fried chicken, so I was very excited to try this place out. We sat down for maybe 5 minutes before a basket of warm corn bread was already in front of us. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan because it was very crumbly and not sweet enough for my liking. Upon recommendation from a coworker who had been here before, I ordered the sweet potato muffins and those were eons better than the cornbread! They're small, but very moist and delicious. For my entree, I got the chicken and waffles. It comes with 3 whole fried chicken wings, and they were very good; crispy and golden brown. The waffle is a Belgium waffle and it came with a sticky syrup. Overall, very good food but since it's a little heavy, won't be making this a weekly spot. read more

This was my first time visiting and to my surprise the menu was quite authentic to southern style cooking. Being born and raised in the South (NOLA), the catfish made me feel as if I were back at home sitting at my kitchen table with bread,ketchup and a sweet tea. Thank you so much for not putting the dreaded lemon flavor in the batter. The fish was so tender and crunchy. It melted in my mouth. The red beans and rice though......the beans and rice......There was some type of flavor in them that made me think of pintos beans and rice. And there was no smoked sausage, seasoning (The Trinity). I added sugar and ketchup but to no avail. They tasted like they were from a can. The potato salad......the potato salad. Potato salad is difficult because everyone makes it different. It is all about the palate. There were seven of us there. 3/7 loved the potato salad. Like I said it is about the palate. I thought it was pre-made though. But that catfish!!!!!! This breaks my heart to write, because I've loved this place for a long time. I know everyone is trying their best during COVID but I'm sorry, y'all are getting a one star from me, because you DIDN'T try your best, you did nothing at all, refused to give me my money back, and acted like I was the problem. I ordered food at 5:30, they always say online that it will take 38 minutes. I didn't even pull up until 7:05 just to give them extra time. I got a pork chop meal, mashed potatoes & mac & cheese. that's not a hard meal, that doesn't take long, AND IT WAS ONE MEAL. As I said, I understand everyone is trying their best but the person who delivers the curbside to the car let me sit there for 30 minutes, he didn't even come up to my car at ALL, I had to let him know I was there because no one was answering the phone, he got my name, and then let me wait 30 minutes. it wasn't until I came up to the door that someone told me my order wasn't ready. I ordered at 5:30!!! And it would've been fine had he told me when I walked up, but he just ignored me & my car until I asked. ALSO, it's super hard to get a refund from this place. Super hard to get them on the phone, super hard to email them. How am I supposed to get a refund?? Beans & Cornbread was slow as shit BEFORE the pandemic but gotdamn, if y'all can't handle it right now y'all should stop instead of losing customers who spent BIG money there. I rarely leave a review, however 10's across the board. From the amazing energy of the hostess seating us, to our server Latonia who was hands down the best waitress I've ever had. Amazing atmosphere and vibes! The food was amazing, well seasoned. We both had the bayou dinner and desserts. The mac, green beans & yams were exceptional! As well as the chicken wings, ribs and catfish! WOW!! Everything tasted amazing and came out fresh! All of my requests and needs were met with kindness as well as fastness. I'm a longtime fan of Beans & Cornbread. I used to love coming here for lunch when I worked out this way. The lunch deals were cheap and delicious. Colleagues from Dallas insisted on coming here every time they were in town. This past Sunday, I tried the Sunday brunch buffet ($14.95) for the first time. It's not the fanciest brunch you'll see, but it's definitely well worth the price and the food is delicious. The buffet included fried chicken, barbecue chicken (my favorite), fried catfish, mac and cheese, green beans, grits, bacon, pasta salad, fruit salad and mini sweet potato pies. Also included, but prepared fresh in the kitchen, were eggs, waffles and pancakes. One tip - bring a wet wipe, you'll need it after eating the fried chicken. Per the staff, they don't take reservations same day, but it doesn't get too crowded until 11:30-noon on Sundays. read more

I particularly enjoyed the Fried Catfish (yum-yum) and fresh green beans, and my daughter enjoyed her salmon salad. Generous serving portions. There is a small (4 tables) area for outside dining. Small bar onsite (beware of ordering Chardonnay...served in a small glass with a hefty price of $11; won't make that mistake again). The One Con: the service here is a toss-up (the reason for giving this a 4-star rating instead of a 5). Some servers appear to be the hardest working servers in America - very friendly, knowledgeable and aim to please you.
