After hearing about this place from my mom I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is carry out only with a designated pick up area for call in orders. You place your order like a cafeteria style some things take longer like fried chicken and fry fish. Clearly, this place was popular because the line was long. But moved pretty quickly. The short ribs taste like if you put them on your porch after a blizzard, only the concrete will be showing they are so salty. My husband and I have been supporting this black, family owned business for years. However, just recently we've noticed a change in service. For example, forgetting sides with our dinners via (Uber eats) and entree portion size (meat). We were very disappointed because when you're hungry and have your mouth fixed you're ready to eat. You are not expecting to see missing sides or less meat and don't think customers are not going to notice. So instead of Uber eats tonight I decided to literally go into their location to get our dinners. I asked for the manager ( female) and explained what we experienced with the missing side and she made it right. While my husband was on my cell we ordered (2) rib tip dinners with (2) sides and peach cobbler. We also received our missing side from your previous order. I get home and we open our dinners and noticed the rib tip portions are much smaller that we've had before. Of course we were upset. I proceed to call them and asked for the manager again (female). I expressed my concerns pertaining to the dinners and she responds that they weigh the rib tips at 8 ounces. I thought that I'd give Southern Smokehouse a try,seeing that I was working in the area. They did NOT disappoint me! I wound up ordering up a fried catfish dinner, with collard greens, yams and a side of mashed potatoes with chicken gravy. Initially I was told that my meal would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Imagine my surprise when I received a text only 10 minutes later advising me that my order was ready. I was impressed that they had a dedicated line for called in orders which had a minimal wait. After picking up my meal, I was somewhat disappointed to see that there wasn't any tartar sauce or hot sauce in the bag. But when I tasted the catfish, I realized that truly amazing catfish doesn't need tartar sauce or hot sauce! The catfish consisted of two very large fillets, fried to a golden perfection. The collard greens were a generous portion, chopped and cooked perfectly. The yams were divine, lightly seasoned with brown sugar and cinnamon. I actually only added the mashed potatoes on my order because I believe you can tell a lot about a restaurant by tasting their mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were perhaps the best real mashed potatoes that I've ever had from a restaurant. I have to admit after seeing a couple negative reviews, I actually thought of going to the competition a couple blocks away, but I'm glad that I didn't! One review caught my eye which caught my attention after talking highly of the banana pudding. So I also purchased a banana pudding to try. OMGoodness was the pudding delicious! While typically not a fan of pudding with soggy vanilla wafers in it, I found that I couldn't imagine eating it without Nilla Wafers in it now! This meal was the highlight of my day! Now I just have to figure out a way to sweet talk my family into coming back here and soon! I actually split the meal and all the fixings with a co-worker. He was equally impressed by the quality and taste of the food. Having never tried Collard greens before, he was pleasantly surprised at how much he liked them. All told, the meal ran roughly $25 for the two of us, which is a little on the pricey side, but I'm willing to pay a bit more for quality like this!
