I love an inventive chef. And Corndance has one of the most inventive I've met in a long while. The standard menu is great. Can't go wrong. But the nightly specials are downright tantalizing. Octopus, lamb, and hog snapper were the stand outs for me on this night. But I have been many other times where the list was totally different and equally as impressive. Our server Allison was very knowledgeable on the nuances of each special and she served us with flair! The nightly "sword" features a meat, poultry and seafood option on an actual sword (ish). Dramatic presentation! For dessert was had "coffee and donuts". Fresh beignet style donuts with coffee gelato and Ghirardelli chocolate sauce. I don't usually do desert, but I didn't leave a morsel of this one behind! The South Bend fine dining scene is quite limited. But that's ok when there is an option like Corndance. I had this sort of John Adams. Everything on it was delicious. I noticed from pictures of this item that what is on the sword seems to vary considerably. On my night it was sausage, chicken, and salmon. All three items were fantastic. Probably the best salmon I've ever had. However, I did notice that the items on the sword and other pictures seemed significantly better menu items. However, I was happy and portion was adequate. read more

I made reservations for my daughter's 30th birthday. We had 6 people to celebrate. I made my reservation about a week in advance. Of course the week before Christmas is always hard to find a good restaurant with accommodations available. This should have been my 1st clue. Let me give you a brief rundown of our dinner. We found hair in our butter AND the bread basket. We ordered drinks before dinner and never was offered a refill or an additional cocktail. I only had ice tea and it was gone before my meal arrived. They delivered the meal on a lopsided table. My family members dinner (a hamburger) was served in a metal contraption that failed and almost the entire meal slid into the floor. They told us they were replacing her fries. Never happened. Our waitress was so rude. I had more then 3/4 of my meal left and she brought me a box and when I ignored the offer of a box since I was still eating, she flung it on the middle of the table and walked away. We brought a cake and were told if they cut it out was $1.50 per slice. I said we would do it ourselves. We waited 20 minutes after dinner and had to flag a manager to get a bill. We ended up going without the cake as we had been there 2 hours. The excuse was that they had a large table arrive an hour early and the waitress was stuck with us and the large table. I understand we are in a world of covid, but how long is everyone going to use that excuse for poor service? If they can't take care of a guest within reason, they should not be serving that many tables. A $300 dinner for 6 should be at least checked on.... not here! Go elsewhere for dinner. I was here recently for dinner. I got the california roll, shrimp and spicy crab roll, NY strip steak, grilled shrimp, lobster tail, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, a blackberry mocktail, and I took some cake cans to go. I sat in the bar area. The service was very friendly. The steak was perfectly cooked. I actually really like the lingonberry sauce. I wasn't sure if the sweetness would be too much. I did not like the peppercorn sauce unfortunately. Mashed potatoes are amazing. The sauce on the brussel sprouts was good, but there was too much of it and it was overwhelming. I did not care for the taste of the shrimp roll or the lobster tail. The blueberry sour cream cake can was my favorite, tres leches a close second. The peanut butter one is very heavy, but the flavor is good. I did not like the birrramisu. I would return to try some other things. read more

Fantastic birthday dinner at Corndance Tavern. The service was awesome and the food and service was top notch. I had the sword of John Adams, although I'm still not sure why it is called that. Maybe sword of George Washington makes more sense? Anyways the chicks, lamb, and New York strip was money. The scallops, salmon, ribeye and bison meatloaf didn't disappoint. Allow me to start off by saying I travel four days a weeek across TN, KY, IN, IL, OH, MS, WV and this may be my new fav restaurant! The service was spot on, I sat at the bar (7:30pm 4/4/233) the bar staff was friendly and accommodating, even offering recommendations when I asked (even allowed me to "taste" two wines before ordering. The dry aged Pork Chop was the recommendation (as I wanted something other than steak), wow it did not disappoint, the flavor was amazing and the Yukon potato side was just as impressive. I don't usually do dessert, but with the entree being so good, I thought what the heck, I'm trying whatever is recommend. Dessert did not disappoint, had the White Rabbit Cake, which was a twist on carrot cake (my opinion), light and very good. As a business traveler, who frequents Ruth's Chris and Jeff Ruby's (which I do love) this place more than held their own, honestly if I had to choose betweeen the three, it would be difficult. This was a nice surprise out in the South Bend/Mishawaka area. While they style themselves as a tavern (and they do have a nice bar area on your left as you enter) they are really a bit more upscale than a straight tavern. This is but one restaurant in a group of five owned by the same people out here. For appetizers we started with the pimento dip (5+ stuff) which came with crusty dipping slivers of bread ... this was the hit of the evening and we could have made a meal out of this with some wine. As it was, we had wine anyway and enjoyed entrees too. Our table had the Tavern hamburger (4 star very nice burger done as asked), the beef brisket (4 star and a healthy serving to boot), and a special dry-aged steak. Since this is a steak house they present many steak choices - mostly regular wet-aged steaks and some select dry-aged offerings. They have a blackboard in the restaurant that shows what and how many of the dry-aged offerings are on tap for the day - and this includes the cut and how many days it has dry-aged. I noticed a 65 day dry-aged NY strip on the board and ordered that (in sum 3 star stuff at least for that single steak). The steak was dry ... not like shoe leather dry but if you flipped the steak over on your plate there was no moisture underneath - none. The steak tasted ok, but just wasn't a juicy Midwestern steak. Next time - and we will be back - I'll stick to the regular wet-aged steaks that they offer. We had a variety of glasses of wine which were all nice - standard pours and all around $9 to $15 each. The bread they served was delightful, and they get extra credit for serving it with butter without having to be asked. I also though it was a nice touch that they acted like an upscale place since they fashion themselves that way. When we were done with appetizers and the like they cleared the table and gave each of us a new setup of silverware - a very nice classy touch. Too many places tell you to keep your fork, I guess it saves them some cleaning. But not this place, they start you clean ... small item but much appreciated. Fun place and we will be back. We shared a crispy wonton and crab dip appetizer. My wife had a seared Halibut main course, following her Caesar Salad. I chose a 10 oz filet with a lobster tail, following a Caesar salad. Everything tasted amazing. The ambience was beautiful and our server from the bar was attentive and helpful. We had our own music, a happy anniversary sign, a beautiful table setting, and privacy to enjoy conversation about our 25 years of marriage. read more

We happened on Corndance Tavern thanks to Yelp!, after walking out of its partner restaurant when they were unfamiliar with (and rude about) a drink they were unable to make because of their very limited bar. Shame, because we'd been there twice previously for brunch and had really enjoyed it. Had we known they shared an owner, we may not have eaten there, which would have been our loss. This place is a gem in a sea of shopping mall-area chains. As we walked in, we happened on three friends, who were also in town to see the same performance that brought us to South Bend that weekend. We decided to share a table, so our dinner turned into a bit of a party. We were intrigued by the Dry-Aged Experience, a limited number of steaks offered for sale each day that have been dry-aged for a various number of days. My husband chose one of these, of the 45-day variety. He loved it, and I also took a small taste. It was delicious! I had the 8oz filet, medium rare, which was also wonderful. I think next time I'll add the asiago garlic crust, but other than that it was perfect. I subbed the side to get the truffle fries, and those were also great, and plenty to pass around to share with the table. The reason we'd walked out of the other restaurant, their inability to make my Manhattan and their condescending response about my being unreasonable to not to just choose one of their available drinks, was quickly remedied at Corndance. My Makers Mark Manhattan was perfectly made, and cheerfully delivered by our wonderful server. We're usually in South Bend a time or two each year. This is now our go-to place for our future trips -- I can't wait! read more

Came in on a Saturday night at 6:30 for our anniversary. We did not have reservations (last minute babysitter) but we're able to walk right in and get a high top at the bar. Service was awesome as always. I have never been disappointed by our visits. Husband had the filet and said it was "prepped PERFECTLY medium-well" while I had the 55 day aged ribeye at medium rare. My steak was exactly how I wanted it. The house steak sauce is amazing and available for sale at the butcher shop store front. This is by far my favorite local restaurant in town with the "farm to table" options. It is pricey, so that is why we save it for special occasions. read more

I heard good things about this place a few years ago, but didn't get the chance to go. Then I heard the service had gone downhill, so I skipped it the last time I was in Indiana. Then I was back last month, we heard it was under better management, and we decided to check it out. So, very glad we did. We went on New Years day with a special brunch menu, so you probably won't get to try the delicious pictures I posted. Two of my sisters got the crab omelet. It was the size of an arm, with quarter size chunks of crab all over the place. They had South African lobster and Filet Eggs Benedict. Sweet, sweet lobster and melt tender filets. My burger was delicious. Crispy edges, toasted bun, full flavor bacon and onions on top. Loved the truffle fries and the garlic aioli. Our server, Alma, was super sweet. Her service, and the manager's care, really stepped up the occasion. I loved the classy decor, too. And their Oreo cheesecake was a VERY high quality cheesecake. Our reservations were for 6:30..we were seated right away. We ordered the pick 3 Appetizer.. and two side salads. When our waitress Megan took our dinner order it should not have taken till 8pm to receive our dinner! It was nothing out of the ordinary..pasta..meatloaf..Sword of John Adams. I did not receive the Alfredo sauce as ordered. Tables were not completely full. There was one big party but they were already receiving their meals. read more

My wife and I had a date night and went to CD. We ended up getting seated in a side room that we had not eaten in before. All in all there were three couples in the room and it was a very nice and quaint environment. We both had steak and as always it was delicious and prepared to our liking. I would rate the steaks better then Ruth's Chris and RC has been my favorite for some time. Our server was polite attentive and knowledgeable about the menu for that night. Our waitress was amazing and kept our glasses full and kept the table looking shiny. Since this was a birthday dinner I was given a free dessert that came with candle.
