I'd love to give this restaurant a great rating but they appear to be an embarrassment to New England's food culture. I was with one of two parties and couldn't receive service for 30 minutes. You could find livelier service in a graveyard. Half the employees were on an unscheduled break, the other half were either making wrong drinks or undercooking food. At least they had free popcorn, that you had to get yourself. Horrible place to start a restaurant seeing as how the eatery is placed in the middle of a residential area. Driving by your first assumption would be an abandoned warehouse with a "Cornell's" Sign hanging above the window. One star rating only because I respect the "balls" this owner has to create such a horrid restaurant and serve such repugnant food. I tip my hat to their popcorn machine. read more

This is a B-A-R bar like you might find in northern Wisconsin. Even the floor is tipped. And there's nothing wrong with that. There are too few of these places left in the world. As many have said, the food and beer is decent. Believe it or not, they also make a pretty good martini. Though you got me as to why that should be the case. After the revolution we'll tear down all the TGI Fridays and places like Cornell's can sprout up again. Until then, by all means stop by - it's worth the trip. read more

I probably would have never gone here if my son's soccer team didn't use the pitch in the back as a practice field. Standing around at practice with a group of parents on a warmish early Fall night, I cleared my throat and in my best Dublin thug accent said, "Ah da back me t-roat is a bit dry". Five of them took the hint and we headed for the Pub. What we found was a cozy townie pub with a quirky layout, it's the "Random Addition Syndrome" (RAS), with side rooms exploding from the main room. They have a decent selection of beer, I usually get the Hoegaarden, the Stella Artois or the Guinness. During the softball season it gets pretty crowded and noisy but there are three rooms and a outside porch. The real surprise here is they make an A+ hamburger/cheeseburger, in fact all the food is pretty damn good here and they run regular specials. The best thing I had here was the fried green beans. A couple of local golf courses have pretty craptastic 19th holes. When I play these tracks I head here after the round instead. Credit Crunch: Recently I saw this note from the owner on the chalkboard: "No more tabs, I'm out of the credit business. Ask the bartenders what their credit terms are." I try to pay in cash, but they take credit cards. I think the above was crackdown on "running tabs". Sign of the times mate. * FREE POPCORN, movie theater popper, self serve. * Great burger, pizza is better than may local pizzerias * the game is always on * proper/large glasses for the Hoegaarden and Stella * they have Blue Moon too. * Parking gets tight when you have multiple softball games or Pop Warner and Soccer practice at the same time. read more

Local place. Service is ok. Better for beers than martini's or mixed drinks. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with french fries. Good fries. Bland sandwich. Buttered and toasted bun was good. Sandwich would be better if they marinated and blackened the chicken and added crispy bacon and sliced avocado with a slice of pepper jack cheese and red onion. read more

Not safe for children at all (tons of alcoholics and drug users.) Heavyset bartender got very agitated and basically told me to leave a good review or I will regret it. Unclean bathroom, food is basically mcdonalds tier, and the beer was flat. I get everyone has bad days but this bartender was so rude to me. I love this pub, great friendly atmosphere. My menu favorites are thick hand shaped burgers and the paninis. I often see friends after the local adult sports league games finish up in the fields behind the pub. Our running club stops by each Thurday after our runs, and we've enjoyed watching the transformation as the new owners have renovated the interior. Love all the changes! read more

When my husband and I moved to a hopkinton we were looking for a casual bite to grab some food and a beer and relax. Well Cornell's exceeded our expectations! The food is really great. The steak tips are always delicious and if you ask for them medium rare they always are. Pizza is also great, sandwiches are awesome, wings are good- and the specials are always great. By far the worst experience I have had. The food is greasy and I overheard the staff degrading visitors with the "locals". I wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy. They would not serve one person who has an out of state license but were serving others who did! They were rude and condescending. If you look on the filtered reviews you will see this has been going on for years! If you are a local then I assume you engage in this behavior and it's disgusting. If you are from out of town avoid this place like the redneck plague it is! They give Hopkinton a bad name.... read more

Strange, strange place for food. There was no waitperson working, so we sat ourselves down and I acted as waiter. I told the bartender our orders, and a looooong time later, the food came out. This is a traditional style Irish pub with great food. The menu is small but its always changing. The average price is about $9.50 which is awesome. I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches and burgers when I go out which is the majority of the menu here but all the sandwiches and burgers here have been amazing! I also suggest the dry rub chicken wings! I would deffintly give this place a shot I drove by it for years but now that I've been there in hooked. read more

I love this place. The last time I went I had the pizza special and it was excellent. Good beer selection and generous pours. Prices are very reasonable. The is also free popcorn! The crowd is mostly locals. 1/2 townies & 1/2 Hopkinton yuppies. The bar is a 3 sided peninsula with plenty of seats. The TV's are low quality and when I asked to change the channel to a a basketball game (family feud was on) the bartender said no. read more

Cute little place. The inside and outside are well kept and inviting, the bartender was very friendly and helpful, and the food and beer were cheap and good. Everything was very clean and tidy by bar standards. Stopped by at noon on a holiday, had the burger, onion rings and a pint. Will definitely go back when I am in the area. Nice dive bar with good food for the value. However, it was fun to see a place before Bar Rescue gets there! The owners were sitting at the bar getting drunk and didn't seem to care that their waitress was just hanging with her friends instead of taking customer orders. The bartender John and the cook were both great and very friendly. I think my favorite part of the evening was the owner turning off the volume on the NFL playoff game so she could listen to some crappy music. Someone described as a Dive Bar, that's a perfect description. But I don't mean it in a negative way. I have been stopping by on Tuesday evenings after a yoga class, all sweaty and in exercise clothing, knowing I would not feel out of place in that state. I've had their pizza, surprisingly VERY GOOD. It's a great local dive. I would prefer to have my meals on real plates instead of the cheapest flimsy paper ones and I would prefer better wines, but that wouldn't make it a dive. Living in Hopkinton, this area was in need of an alternative to TJ's. So the makeover at Cornell's was a welcome move. It's nice to see the refresh of the décor inside. The menu has been streamlined - but while there are fewer food options, the quality of what's coming out of the kitchen is vastly improved. Finally, the selection of ales on tap is really an advantage here. You can get as good a selection as Stone Public House in Ashland without the hefty pint price. Service is pretty good - solid but nothing more. Sit at the bar and you'll get more attention. Sit at the tables and you may find yourself going to the bar to re-order drinks or settle your tab. A couple of downsides here. They are trying to be an Irish pub, but without satellite access to hurling, European football or rugby, you can't get there. And the female co-owner is a dour sourpuss who they need to keep from the front of the business, I've been there several times in the past month and I've yet to see that woman smile. I was in there Friday night and watched her barking at kids who were having a pizza party, and chirping at the adults about keeping the kids in what is essentially an open room that really didn't lend itself to a kids pizza party. So her demeanor and approach wasn't helping the situation. The reason I'm not rating this place higher is specifically because of her and the need to bring the service up a notch. This place is already worth a trip but it could be so much more. read more

Chalkboard out front saying "open for lunch". When we went in, was told by the bartender that you could only get appetizers until 3pm when the cook came in. Why advertise this? Fine dining...it is not. Cornell's is the quintessential local bar. They aren't trying to be something they are not. If your looking for cheap beers and drinks with decent food, this is the place. The burgers are great, and they make a pretty good pizza too. There is always something a little different on the specials menu. All of this and free popcorn while you stay hydrated. While they do have plenty of tables to sit at, you have to order your food ad drinks at the bar. If your looking for an inexpensive night out, then Cornell's is a great choice. read more
