Food is on average $8 a plate. The hamburger I had was really good sized. The waitress was attentive but not necessarily friendly. The inside is a little out dated but it fits with the location. Dining room was quiet. Mostly old people. But this is our second visit back here so it's an option vs DQ. read more

Service was terrible took my order okay but dropped my food off didn't ask if I needed anything else I didn't have syrup or butter for my pancakes had to ask the manager. She didn't check with me the whole time I was there. Bought a coffee for 2.50 didn't get asked if I wanted a refill . I brought the mater to the attention of the manager when I cashed out and asked her to remove the coffee. She said no and replied don't tip which I had no intention of doing anyway. She did offer to get me a coffee to go. As a side note the coffee was terrible anyway but it would have been nice to have a warm up while I was eating I really didn't want a coffee to go. I asked her for the owner's phone number and she refused . Said I could call the restaurant but didn't tell me when. Poor service from the manager and the waitress. Went to this cute little diner today while passing through Petersburg. Food was wonderful, great burgers. Cute little waitress with an accent who made us laugh. Her coworker took the mood and blew it up if you let it. She complained nonstop, everything from how she is quitting to how hot it was because the AC don't work right. With her attitude she needs to quit or the boss needs to fire her because more people were complaining about her than anything. read more

On our way home from Springfield, we swung out of the way to Lincoln's New Salem and had lunch in Petersburg. Someone at New Salem recommended the Corner Café so that is where we went. We found a nice main street, small town café like I am used to growing up in Iowa. I was trying to lighten up a bit on the food after the previous two days. I should have stayed safe with a burger or breaded tenderloin, but a baked ham sandwich sounded good. I was disappointed that it was just a skimpy portion of deli ham on white bread. When it is described as Baked Ham, I was expecting some actual ham. I should have known better. They could have made it acceptable with a little more of the deli ham on it. I would not do that again. Ms T had an OK gyro. They are 100% lamb and I found it to be well seasoned and well portioned. We understand that this is not a Greek place and considering that, this was not bad. Ms D had some kind of Mexican breakfast plate that was better than the Mexican food we had at Xochimilco in Springfield and Mr D had an omelet with corned beef. I fully understand what to expect in small town cafes. They often try to have too complete of a menu. I like it when they have a little focus or at least one signature thing that is homemade and that they are really good at. The Corner Café was fine, even if what we had was not remarkable. Our service was friendly and helpful. It is unlikely that we would ever find ourselves in Petersburg again, but if we were, I would certainly stop in again. read more

Best breakfast in Petersburg! They are under new management and cleaned up the restaurant! So many choices for food and I've never had anything I didn't like (even under old management). I'm from Springfield so I'm used to having a lot of tasty food all around me all the time. Corner Cafe is definitely the best breakfast in Petersburg! read more

We live in the area and wanted to try something new. I wanted to take my parents out for breakfast. This place was NOT worth the money. Their menu items are an average of $8 a plate but they upcharge you for everything else. 3 coffees were $7! And it tasted like water. The eggs and hashbrowns were the only thing edible. There's only one customer service oriented waitress doing everything. The younger one kept making herself look busy to avoid interacting with you, even when she made eye contact with you and knew you were waiting. Don't order the corned beef hash. It tasted like it had sugar in it and was under cooked. Don't order the steak and eggs. The steak had a sick sweet after taste... like it was rancid or just poorly marinated. Nevermind the fact that if you ask for it cooked medium, they'll over cook it past well done. $43 for 3 plates of eggs with a meat and 3 coffees, it's cheaper to go to Le Peep at those prices. read more

What a delight. The two of us stopped by for a mid-afternoon meal not realizing that we were arriving minutes before closing but we were greeted graciously by Anita who truly made us feel welcome. We really enjoyed our salads and appreciated Anita's attention. As we travel cross country, we're always on the lookout for small locally owned eateries with friendly service. After visiting New Salem, we found this little place on the square of Petersburg. Our server was super friendly, and she made sure we had everything that we needed (always with a smile). We didn't realize that they closed at 3, and I think we showed up around 2:30. It wasn't a problem though. We had a party of six, all ordering different items, and they all came out super tasty and fast. We're from San Diego so we're kind of spoiled when it comes to getting whatever we want to eat. Food is great. Also the remodel did the store good. Service was great too. Only thing is, I'm a Dr. Pepper fan. I make compromises though and settle for Mr. Pibb if Dr. Pepper is not available. The corner cafe got rid if their Pibb entirely and replaced it with Orange Crush. I would still rate five stars though because that isn't a big deal. What is a big deal is when the boss man is rude to his employees. Five star for food and service also the look of the place. But the overall environment is stressful. read more

Had a difficult time moving tables to accommodate 6 people. Young waitress had problems taking our order, had to repeat numerous times. Same waitress could not remember who ordered what when delivering food to the table. One issue after another. Most likely won't return. read more

Our breakfasts were mediocre at best. The waiter did not know the menu at all, not understanding which sides came with the meals. We were told that One of the 'favorites' was a new menu selection. My stuffed French toast came with an over abundance of cheese, 3 strawberries, and smothered in very sweet red sugary sauce. When we asked about the whipped topping which was described in the menu, an entire can of topping was delivered to our table. We would not return to this establishment. read more

Although I live near Petersburg, in the past I haven't gone to the local restaurants as they had declined in recent years. However, my wife and I now try to go to the Corner Cafe as much as possible when we eat out. Many of the meals have been exceptional, and all have been at least OK. read more
