First time in, the food looked good but I never had a chance to try it. After ordering I watched the waitress walk by me a dozen times without stopping in to check. After 35 minutes of no service, I asked another server who said my food would be out any minute. 10 minutes later I got up and left. I walked in this place and the first thing I notice is about 7-8 people running around trying to figure out who ordered what. I ordered the 2 hotdog and fries and they charged almost $10.00 No one seemed to know what was going on. Constantly opening to go orders to see what was inside the carry out boxes. It really did look like a circus. 10 min. past and still no hotdogs. 20 min. pass and I was informed they forgot to put my order in. It's like 3:30 way past the lunch rush and not that many people in the place and still they were acting like no one knew what to do with the food coming out and several orders just sitting on the counter as they continue to open all the orders to see what was inside. (mark the boxes in the back? naaa...just let em open them again up front and let them try to figure it out.). I can get a dog anywhere in 5 min. or less...any place but here that is. After 20 min. pass and no food, I walk out late for work and told them to forget the order. They brought my 2 hot dogs to my car as I was driving away. What I got was worse than the service. Tiny Hormel dogs LOADED with mustard, enough to hide the hotdogs. Only enough chili to hardly stain the bun with huge chunks of onion. The fries were even worse, half cooked and they had black spots from dirty grease.. I full cup of crushed ice and hardly any coke in it. What a circus and over priced for the low quality of the food and horrible service. I ate half of one dog and 2 fries and threw the rest away, pure garbage. read more

Was looking for a new place to take my wife for breakfast. We came across the corner cafe and figured we would give it a shot. I had the unlimited toppings omelette supreme and she had the French toast. The portions were plentiful and the price was great. The staff was friendly and prompt. Today is Saturday and the lunch special is fried flounder, the breaking was over cooked and had no flavor, the inside was done just fine. The kids chicken tenders were over cooked, but when I brought it up to the cashier she took it off the ticket. The coleslaw tasted like a lightly seasoned salad, was pretty awful. The baked beans were good, well seasoned, be aware if you expect homemade definitely not. They were canned with added onions, peppers, and bacon. Reminded me of my Navy days. The fries were under cooked, nothing to really say but that. The staff was very nice, and I would definitely go back to try some other things, just because the staff was very cheerful, and the prices were right. But they need to change a few things. Take away the patio until you have a different break area for the workers, it is gross to be eating while they take out the trash, and openly wish they could smoke. It also came with an au jus dip. Yum! It's a very small family style restaurant with a modern style. The floors and tables were spotless. Super cute jewel in Portsmouth. Went here for lunch today and made it on time for there delightful breakfast. The staff is nice enough...the food is delicious and price is ok. I got the French toast, eggs, cubed potatoes...really good. My friends got fried fish and shrimp and both loved the food. The desserts looked beautiful..I will try next time. It's fairly small so you can't get too loud and unfortunately they don't cater to vegetarians being that they don't have non meat substitutes for entrees...which made my meal more than necessary. Fries, coleslaw, and bake beans were nothing but average. Beans tasted like they were straight from a can. The corn muffin was pretty good if you like a "Jiffy" mix taste (very sweet). I had taken my family here today based on recommendations. Extremely tight seating area for the amount of people. Bumped into several times when people were leaving the counter seating area. Service was slower than expected for short order type food. We had three different meals. Omelet's were fantastic, hash browns were good but slightly under cooked for my liking. Sausage links lacked flavor and were barely warm. Biscuits were excellent. I was told they are homemade. Turkey sausage looked good but was completely raw throughout the middle. Guessing it was fried up frozen and the outside cooked before the center. Sent it back and the replacements were good. Coffee was good, when the cups were actually refilled. Overall I would say it was an OK experience but would not go out of my way for breakfast there again. read more

Saturday, I went to the Corner Cafe to get some hot dogs. I ordered 3 hot dogs "to go" with mustard, onions, and chili. I used to eat there all the time when it was "Nick's Hot Dogs," and the hot dogs back then were great! But not yesterday at the Corner Cafe! I watched while standing in the seating area as the kitchen worker prepared my hot dogs. He placed three buns side by side in a square clam shell-type styrofoam container, squirted all three hot dogs and buns with mustard, sprinkled chopped onions over the mustard, then ladled an overabundant amount of thin, runny chili over all three buns. When I opened the styrofoam container in my vehicle to eat a hot dog on my way home, there was no way I could pick up one of those chili-covered, messy hot dogs. At home, I had to use tongs to remove the unappetizing, cold, soggy hot dogs and put them on a plate. I still could not pick them up and I ate 1 1/2 with a knife and fork. The rest were soggy from too much mustard and gobs of chili. I threw them away. The other food at Corner Cafe might be edible, but if you go there, DO NOT order their hot dogs! As for me, I would have to be starving to ever again buy hot dogs from Corner Cafe! I should have driven a little farther and gone to Ray's Dogs, where the hot dogs are prepared with care, served hot, and INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED! Like Nick's hot dogs used to be. read more
