Came here for a birthday getaway, and we were content but nothing stood out about this hotel. Service: Mid Building: old with modern remodeling Rooms: Mid Views: great Food/coffee: good; nothing noteworthy I don't think it's worth the price point, but I feel like there aren't too many 4 star hotel options in Coronado, so you either go Motel status and cheap, or luxurious with Hotel Coronado. Marriott is usually reliable, but this hotel is reliably forgettable.

Loved, loved, loved our experience at this hotel, came for a company retreat and we were treated very well. The room was very spacious, lots of pillows, bed was a little firm but was able to still sleep. Overall great hospitality, the convenience of having a restaurant inside was great. Everything we ordered was delicious. They had a breakfast buffet. We ordered off the menu and everything was delicious, staff at the restaurant was top-notch if I would return back to this hotel on my own, it would be because staff was very attentive the restaurant has happy hour times which makes it more affordable for the area. I guess if I have one thing to complain about it would be about the pool area. The bar closes early, and what was extremely disappointed was the size of the Jacuzzi, which could only fit about five people at a time for such a big resort, the Jacuzzi needs to be bigger.

We were so excited to stay at the Coronado Island Marriott for our wedding anniversary. Celebrating 5 years and returning to Coronado where we initially had our ceremony on the beach near The Hotel Del. After viewing photos on Marriott's app and reading reviews we were excited to give this hotel a try! The hotel grounds are well kept, there is also plenty to do if you are looking for a relaxing staycation around the resort including a large fitness center, lap pool, pickleball and tennis courts, and several fitness classes. There is also a pool overlooking San Diego harbor and a small jacuzzi. Aside from this we were left wanting more.. there is one restaurant on property that offers a Mexican/American blend, we dined here utilizing our free breakfast vouchers for being Marriott Elite members. The breakfast buffet had a lot to offer and was enjoyed. The rooms were in okay condition, but felt dated and dark for a seaside resort. Dark woods, carpets, and fixtures made the room feel smaller than it was. We felt that it could use some updates and a lighter color scheme to make it feel more beachy and warm We shared it was our anniversary and we're left a bottle of wine in our room which was a nice gesture. Overall we were looking for a little more liveliness to this hotel, like live music at the restaurant in the evenings. I am a loyal Marriott Bonvoy Member, but not sure I'll be returning to this location again.

Refrigerator knob gouged and stuck at too low to maintain safe food storage. Needed to call help but for rooms range $500 and up.

I recently stayed here while supporting para athletes that are Veterans as their medical team and had a very disappointing experience. Our group included roughly 50 athletes and about 20 staff, and during the stay we had packages delivered containing necessary items we needed. The most concerning issue was a $150 "package handling fee" added at checkout. At no point was I informed there would be any fee to receive these packages. It was not mentioned when picking them up, nor was it included on the information sheet outlining other charges. I was later told it exists somewhere online, but if a guest cannot reasonably find it during their stay, that is not transparency. There were also multiple unexpected add on charges throughout the stay. The hotel advertises microwaves as an amenity, yet they are only available as a rental for about $25 per day. This became a real issue given dietary restrictions, and we ultimately had to purchase one ourselves. Other basic conveniences, like court access, also came with added fees, creating a constant sense of being nickel and dimed. For a property that presents itself as upscale, the room conditions did not match expectations. There was visible rust on the bathroom ceiling, the refrigerator was difficult to adjust, and ants repeatedly came through poorly sealed areas in the bathroom. The refrigerators knob was so gouged out I needed to ask help to have it moved from minimal to keep my food in the safe refrigeration zone. Overall, the experience felt less like a premium stay and more like a series of hidden costs. For a company of this size and reputation, that should be concerning. If you stay here, ask about every possible fee upfront, because not everything is clearly disclosed.

My wife and I recently traveled to Coronado where she had a work conference at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. That meant that we got to stay there, in its second year (of four years) that the conference was going to be based there instead of the Del. It was our first visit to this resort, and we enjoyed our four days there. The hotel was nice, the food options onsite were good, and the staff were extremely helpful and kind. While it isn't a large resort, it certainly has a little bit of anything you could want for a resort. We visited the onsite restaurant ALBACA several times during our visit. ALBACA is considered to be the resort's signature restaurant blending fresh coastal cuisine with an inviting atmosphere. We enjoyed the food and drinks as well as the atmosphere to meet with colleagues or friends while staying at the resort. We also took advantage of the coffee bar near the front desk each morning, and we also purchased some snacks at the gift shop at the front desk. As a Marriott Gold member staying at this resort, we were entitled to a $15 credit for our room each day, which could be used at any of the resort's restaurants as well as at the gift shop at the front desk. While my wife was in the conference rooms upstairs for her conference, I took advantage of the pool, the gym, and relaxing around the resort. The pool had plenty of open seats first thing in the morning but filled up by the afternoon, at which time the bar was opened at the pool. The gym only had a few people using it at any point in time and had two floors of machines and work out space. They also had tennis courts that I didn't use and ponds around the resort including the flamingos outside of the gym. I also found the free summer shuttle that started across the street from the hotel and went to several great tourist areas of Coronado including Orange and the Del, which I took each day to explore Coronado as well as to grab lunch or meet up with a friend. As a Marriott Gold, we were entitled to an upgrade which was a standard room at a preferable location in the resort. We were on the first floor right by the pool. It wasn't too loud, and we had a cute patio right outside of our room. The front desk staff were so helpful and friendly, and we made a point of stopping by to ask them any questions we could think of. Christian was specifically the most helpful and recognized me and greeted me by name during the course of our visit. The hotel rate was also a bargain as we had a special conference rate with a half price resort fee each day. We also initially only could reserve two double beds but the contact for the conference helped us switch to a king bed room; my wife's supervisor had the same thing happen but the hotel switched the room type for him at no charge. Again, we had a positive experience, and we are hoping to have my wife go to this conference again so that we could stay at the hotel again. Thanks to the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa staff for a great experience!

I am so HAPPY, I finally get to cross off Coronado Island Marriott off my bucket list and of course I would be back in an instant. I always wanted to stay here, it did cost lots extra staying here but it was money well spent. I also had another place booked but decided to give up that reservation and just go with it, we also stayed here to celebrate our 29th anniversary, an extra special stay! It was a dream come true, I loved every single moment, great experience, amazing time staying here at the Marriott and at the same time checking out Coronado Island. Driving there, on the Ferry Island Bridge was Wow, loved the view heading in, we did so much ( except for missing out on the pool due to the weather, daily fitness class, tennis pickle ball, basketball courts) but I felt we took advantage of what Coronado island has to offer. Checking in was quick, finding our hotel room was a little confusing but the map and info. we received from the front desk staff helped. The property is huge! The rooms are nice and spacious, we got nice view of the bay, private balcony on the bottom floor in the corner. The beds extra plush and comfy, made me want to sleep in the next day but we had to start our day early with brunch and bike riding before the fun comes to an end, when we check out. Coronado Island where Marriott Resort & Spa is located, is stunning waterfront hotel, offers breathtaking views of the San Diego Skyline and the iconic Coronado Bridge. I am so grateful and happy to experience this in real life. Such a beautiful resort! Besides hotel rate, daily parking fee of $47., $55. for valet, Daily Resort Fee of $50. which includes daily bike rental ( up to 2 bikes for 2 hours per day per guestroom, daily beach rental, daily sports court access, daily fitness classes, daily lap pool acess & daily high speed internet. I felt we got our money's worth with the bikes for both of us for 2 days. Parking is a private lot run by third party vendor. If not doing valet, best to drop off your luggage then park your vehicle. We never left the premises, except for bike riding and hopping the ferry ride for our dinner. We relaxed a bit, did the bike ride to the other side and checked out the Del and Coronado island. Its such a beautiful island! Look for the flamingos (4), it's so nice to see them! Overall to sum my one day visit, Truly uplifting moments, happy dance, even cried tears of joy, Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa exceeded all my expectations, killing many birds with one stone during my stay. This stay filled my heart with gratitude and joy, unforgettable experience. Happy 29th to us!

Peaceful Coronado Stay with a Few Trade-Offs: * Length of Stay: 8 days * Purpose: Work trip (chose this hotel to avoid staying in downtown San Diego) Room: * Stayed in a king room overlooking the waterfall and pond. The room was clean and comfortable. The only downside was the number of birds around the balconies--it made me hesitant to sit outside. * The thermostat went rogue a couple times making it ridiculously cold. Couldn't get warm. I appreciated the fleece blanket they provided in the room. The thermostat and smoke alarm lighting was bothersome at night. Staff: * Very smooth. I checked in early right after landing around 12pm, and everything was ready. * Friendly and helpful throughout the stay. I liked the housekeeping daily. Amenities: * Unfortunately, I didn't get to use them--most seem to close early, and it wasn't clear where they were or how to access them. I'd love to try them if I come back for a leisure trip. Location: * I love being in Coronado. I usually stay at the Loews on the "lined" coast. The east side (where this resort is) is quieter, but there aren't many dining options nearby. * Didn't eat at the hotel, but I assumed prices would be resort-level and less than ideal. Downsides: * Navigating to my room was a little confusing at first, but improved after about a day. Thankfully they have stairs so you don't have to take the lone elevator each time. * $45 daily parking fee. * At least in the area I was in, being on your balcony seemed to be problematic due to the influx of birds roaming the area. It was less than ideal. Overall: * This is a great place to stay if you're looking for something quieter and scenic. I'd stay again, especially for a more relaxed trip.

Beautiful View, But Not Worth the Price I recently stayed at the Marriott Coronado and was honestly shocked by the disconnect between the high price tag (anywhere from $500 to $1000 a night) and the quality of the experience. The only standout here is the spectacular view from the rooms--and sadly, that's about it. There was no bottled water in the room, which was especially frustrating since I needed it to take medication. Instead, there was a coffee machine, two tea bags, and no water. When I asked the front desk, I was told they "don't do that anymore" and to go outside to a water station--with no cups. Not exactly what you'd expect at these prices. The grounds are unkempt, with trash lying around, and the phone in the room was filthy--so much so that I didn't want to touch it and used the speaker instead. It clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The food was underwhelming, and service was hit or miss. The one bright spot was a friendly and attentive waiter named Joe--he was the only one who made us feel like guests that mattered. If you're coming here for the view, sure--book a night. But don't expect anything extra or exceptional. For the price, it's just not worth it. Marriott really needs to step it up at this property.

Absolutely top-tier experience at Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. Booked a day pass specifically for the spa and ended up spending the entire day there -- easily one of the best decisions I've made in San Diego. The spa is the standout: quiet, clean, and actually built for real relaxation. Not overcrowded, not rushed -- just a smooth, premium experience from start to finish. Staff was professional, attentive, and dialed in without being overbearing. Everything felt well-managed and intentional. The views overlooking the bay and downtown San Diego are next level. You get that full resort feel without needing to book a stay, which makes the day pass incredibly worth it. If you're considering it, stop thinking and book it. This place delivers. 10/10.

The location is perfect. Right after the bridge. They were very accommodating of pets and our needs. Surrounded by beautiful views I couldn't think of a better place to stay.

This Marriott is one of the most worn down hotels. Rooms smell like a Motel 6. Food is ok. You're better off eating out. Drinks are extremely over priced. Bathroom fan did not work and had mold. Service was ok

My friends were hosting a wedding at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa, which was great for me because I could use my status here! Also the first time I ever stayed in Coronado, so I wanted to check the vibe. Was confirmed for an upgrade to a cottage even before I got here, which was nice. The room was really spacious and fairly comfortable. Really big living room area with a small-ish kitchen area (although no stove), a sizeable bedroom, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower and a separate tub. Both the living room and bedroom opened up to an outside patio as well. However, I need to note that the room, albeit nice on the surface, had some noticeable issues. The bathroom definitely had a moldy smell to it, which was quite noticeable when juxtaposed against my friend's bathroom that had no smell at all. The paint was also peeling near the toilet. And somehow I am bemused that no one noticed that the water from the ink was leaking on to the floor under it. Turns out that the pipe underneath the sink had a good-sized hole in it. Thankfully, hotel staff were able to quickly replace the pipe despite it being fairly late at night. Of course, I reported all my concerns to the hotel. I can't complain too much since I was upgraded to the cottage, but I would have been severely disappointed had I paid full price for the room. I do want to credit the staff, who are very good here. The person who checked us in was also the person that we had to report the pipe issue to, and he had it taken care of practically immediately. So kudos to him! Other than that, we were treated very well over the course of our stay. Location-wise, it's good to just be on Coronado Island rather than having to travel here if you want to explore Coronado. Very quick ride to Orange Ave., where all the action is. Other than that, not much else going on on Coronado. It was nice to be very close to the San Diego Bay, as it's always nice to look at the water and downtown San Diego behind it. Overall, the stay was fine, but the hotel is definitely showing its age a bit. Feels like it could use some work on renovations.

Overall friendly staff. It's nice but don't expect a 4 star. I'd say more 3.5. Clean, I will say they need new towels. They are in terrible shape. Worn out, some looked dirty still. We had to ask for more. Last thing, is they can upkeep the rooms a little better. For example the vents in the bathroom were rusty and gross. Not the biggest deal but it would make it feel cleaner and better while your stay there. The facility itself can use some TLC. Breakfast buffet was great, they had a waffle and omelet bar. Dinner was good, nothing too exciting there, but convenient. Everything reasonably priced. I love that it's family friendly. They have the turn for some family games. We also rode the bikes around Coronado. You get 2 rentals per room. Guy at the bar was super friendly. They offer dip & dots at the bar and that's always a win with kids. Jet ski right outside the hotel, which is very convenient. Also an 8 minute walk to IlFornaio!

Ask the Community - Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa

What brand of shampoo is used? Just curious because we really enjoyed the scent and feel! We stayed there late Sept 2023.

I saw this link where you can buy the products that they use: https://www.shopmarriott.com/product.aspx?this-works-hair-body-care-set

Is there a hot tub on premises? Is pool warm enough to swim in in early March?

The pool is not heated but there is a hot tub on premises

Hello, do rooms have central air conditioning? Thank you.

    Yes!

    Any constructions currently happening?

We didn't notice any construction going on in or around the hotel.

    Is there Beach access?

Yes. Walked past the pool, on to the boardwalk and then go left to the beach at the park.

Are restaurants pools open ? Any restrictions during covid?

Yes the bar was serving food, pool open and room was cleaned 3 days of stay because of COVID

How are they letting people into the pools? I hear there is two hour time limits? Can you go to another pool?

2.5 hour limits and they clear you out, clean, then let people back in first come first serve. Crowded but doesn't look like they are having issues.

Can you rent a cabana for the day if you are not staying in the hotel?

The cabanas are not even rent-able. There is no charge to use them. So, no?

Three cheers for Sandra and for the Del!…read more Service has gone downhill since Hilton acquired it. But we love this location so much we suck it up now and then to have a little staycation in this magical place. At check in time there was a huge line: the computers had broken! We left our luggage and got a snack at ENO Market. And luckily by the time we finished, the line had cleared and they had brought over extra folks to work reception. We were lucky to get Sandra who normally works at the more upscale Shore House on property. She was very apologetic about the line and also saw that we have stayed here at several times. My sweetie is Hilton Gold and they were initially going to upgrade us from our basic The Views room to a "Victorian room with a view". No thank you! Del veterans know that the historic hotel rooms are small and with no privacy, because of the courtyard. So Sandra looked again and managed to get us a beautiful upgrade to the ocean view room in The Views, which was amazing. And when we woke up, we had a note under the door saying we also had complimentary buffet breakfast at the veranda because we have an American Express Hilton card... and we also got $100 off our meal the night before at Serea! So in short an amazing stay that was an incredible value for the Del. Sometimes we stay somewhere else "cheaper" in Coronado and then come out and hang here. But this was a super deal. The credit card is absolutely worth getting if you like the Del! (last pro tip: service at the hotel can be spotty and the food very expensive if you don't have a credit. ENO market and pizzeria is the best value on property. But if you get Brett as your server at Serea, and sit outside, you are still sure to have a magical time!)

First, the good: The property has been nicely upgraded since I last stayed here in 1978…read more Now the rest. We checked in at 5pm. Thankfully the line was not long but the process takes a while so you can still wait 10 minutes even if you are first in line. The clerk was very nice but I could sense she was going to shaft us and sure enough we ended up in a tiny room that was down a long corridor with a view of nothing but rooftops. Probably one of the worst rooms in the hotel and maybe used to house the maids but now sold as a regular room to maximize revenue. So naturally we marched back to the front desk and thankfully found another clerk who could not have been more wonderful. Shocker, she was unable to find anything else that night (800 rooms, 5pm checkin, nada) but was able to convince the manager to let us upgrade the following day to a higher category room for $75/night (regularly $225). Of course this means packing up after one night and checking into a new room but we decided to do it because the first room was so mediocre. The next morning we stopped at the front desk at noon and were surprised and delighted to find the new room ready. It was like night and day - about 2x-3x larger with an elevated sitting area, a couch, and a sea view even though it was not ocean front. Well worth the upgrade fee though kind of sad that you have to pay extra just to get yourself removed from the worst ROH. Not that everything was perfect - the following morning we were awakened to children running wild in the room above ours (apparently a special turret room or something) - it was so bad that I had to knock on the door and was greeted by a displeased parent who apologized and said they were checking out. Bueno. Don't come to this hotel enjoy the water. The ocean is polluted by sewage from TJ and not recommended for bathing. The next day we arrived at the pool only to find it was closed for the day after a child had exploding diarrhea. So much for that. Someone asked management if they could use the special spa pool reserved for mucky mucks but was told that was off limits. On the plus side beach drink service was excellent, but $8 for a diet coke plus a mandatory service charge seems excessive. Similarly I think it was $25 for a cookie and a couple of soft drinks at the lobby snack shop. I was tempted to buy a yogurt parfait but I could not justify it as the cups were only half filled. It is one thing to gouge customers, quite another to cheapen the product. For those who want to save $$ there is a chipotle across the street from the property where you can get large soft drinks (and return for free refills, as the cashier explained) for $3. If you plan to spend all your time at the resort, save yourself the parking gouge by taking a $31 rideshare to/ from the airport. Overall I can say that the staff was very nice, the bar area is fun and the food served at the hotel restaurants is excellent. However I do not plan to return as there are so many properties in San Diego that have nicer rooms, nicer pools and nicer beaches for a fraction of the price.

You pay for the location and that is about it. The main lobby was super cute. We were very excited to stay here. But it took a turn when we were shown our room. The smell was so bad you could smell it a few feet outside of our door. We would wake up in the middle of the night because the smell woke us up. It smelled like mildew & mold so bad, on top of cigarettes and hospice. I went to call to ask for a new room and our phone didn't work. I moved the side bedroom table to see if it was plugged in and it was so dirty with bugs and lint balls. I didn't touch the phone again. I called from my cell phone to see about changing our room. She told me I could come the next day and take a look at other rooms that were available, but we were only there for one more night and we had plans with friends that day. The carpet is disgusting. The couch is so dirty. There were brown stains on the sheets of our bed. Every time the cleaning crew would come in, they would open every single window to the fullest to mask the smell. There's not a restaurant here so you have to go get your food and bring it in. There were dead bugs in the utensil drawers. So we used plastic utensils, and paper plates our whole trip. Our room looked nothing like the lobby. A motel 8 would've been better. Even the pool is sad. We were going to cancel our stay and book somewhere else, but we booked through Expedia and it's a nightmare trying to get a refund through them. Otherwise, we would've left after the first day. When leaving a manager pulled me aside and said he was going to comp one day resort fee for us because of the smell. He didn't have to do that, but it was nice of him. We will never be back unless they do a serious update. So sad because the location is killer!

My wife and I stayed at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina while I was participating in a…read moreconference, and we very much enjoyed our stay. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and ours offered a wonderful view of the bay and even the ocean beyond, with a clear view of Point Loma. Down below was Roy's Restaurant and the pool area. While our bay view king room did not have a balcony, the window did have the ability to slightly open if we wanted to hear the sounds or get some fresh air. With the window closed, the room was very quiet, so we had no noise issues. We also didn't hear noise from any neighbors, with the exception of the occasional person talking the hall or letting a room door close. Though the beds were not the most comfortable we've ever had, they were comfortable enough for both of us, though the pillows weren't my favorite because they were the kind of feather pillows you need to bunch up so they aren't too thin. They aren't very soft or spongy. Nonetheless, I was able to sleep on them sufficiently well. We can be a little picky about beds and getting good sleep, and we slept fine. Unfortunately, like many hotels, the sink, toilet, and shower/tub are all in one room, making it less convenient for two people to be doing things at the same time, especially since there is only one sink. There was a decent amount of lighting and space for toiletry items. We had no major complaints about the room, but we did have a broken toilet paper fixture in the bathroom on the wall next to the toilet that resulted in the toilet paper falling on the floor several times. Service was super friendly, but it was difficult to reach the front desk at times without a very long wait on the phone. When I called down to request a luggage rack for the room, I was told someone would bring one up, but it never came. I had to walk to the front desk to ask for one, which was later delivered. They do have an automated attendant that lets you request a limited number of items, and I was able to request a robe for my wife that way. While we were there, the elevators were a problem for a lot of people. For part of the time we were there, some in our tower were not working, causing relatively long waits for the remaining elevators and sometimes multiple stops on the way down or up at peak use times. The hotel said they were working on it, and things did seem to improve a little by the time we checked out. The property itself is beautiful and laid out well for its limited space in this part of town. Once inside, and even outside when walking the grounds near the pool, you are in a bit of a protected oasis that doesn't make you feel like you are sandwiched between the bay and the street out front. We ate outside every day with the conference, and the area we were in was super pleasant. There are a number of restaurants on property, but since we were usually eating with the conference, we didn't have time to try any except for the Marketplace. It was very expensive for most items, but the quality was really good, and we never had much of a wait. They serve Starbucks coffee here, but you can probably save a bit of money if you get that (or mobile order) from the on-site Starbucks, which is in a different part of the building. The food served at the conference was of good quality. If you go to many conferences, you'll find it to be competitive with any of the better resorts, though, in my opinion and as one might expect, it doesn't outshine the Ritz-Carlton or certain J.W. Marriott facilities. The food service staff for the conference were excellent, helpful, and fast. The hotel is in a very convenient area downtown on the bay next to the San Diego Convention Center. Traffic in the short distance between here and the freeway can be bad depending on time of day or events happening at either the convention center, downtown, or at Petco Park, where the Padres play, but the distance is short enough for it not to be much of a headache in most cases. I doubt you'll find very many cities with access this easy from the hotel to the airport and all of the local attractions, including, in this case, the Gaslamp District, Little Italy, Coronado, the bayside attractions, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, and more. Hotel parking is expensive, of course, so if you don't really need a car, I highly recommend using Uber or Lyft or walking to get around to the nearest things. Overall, I would certainly stay here again, and I do highly recommend this hotel if you are attending a conference or vacationing in this part of the city and can afford the price point.
