My family have been coming to Coronado yearly for about 30 years and have stayed at several homes and hotels. This August first time at Bower...we already miss this place.. What a great vibe, what a great space. But the staff culture is what really stands out. Everyone was so nice, so accommodating . I felt like this was a family owned business and we were guests in their home. Sean the GM was every where, greeting guests , answering questions, as was sales director Nick. The Bower did not hold up to its price or 5-star rating. My husband and I spent the night for a part of our honeymoon with our friends who are from the area. We were both unhappy with our stays. The Good: - Great location at the center of Coronado right by all the shops/restaurants as well as the beach. - Really cool decor and overall vibe, whoever designed the hotel did a great job! - The rooftop restaurant/bar Dive was really great. We didn't try any food but our drinks were great and the staff was accommodating yet not overbearing. The Bad: - Super lean hotel staff. Only saw 3 employees during our entire stay and that showed in the service. Single employees were doing multiple jobs. For example, the valet guy was seen in the morning cleaning rooms as well. The front desk attendant then acted as the valet guy in the morning as well. - Front desk attendant is in need of more training. Upon check in, he wasn't aware of the hours of the rooftop restaurant. He also didn't tell us the access code for the WiFi which we had to request after the fact. We requested a later check out (12pm rather than 11am) and the request was granted, but our key cards locked us out after 11am and we had to get new cards made. - We got a Premium King room and it was VERY small. Reminded me of a European hotel room, which shouldn't be the case for somewhere in California. - Lots of cleanliness issues: There was a large stain on the blinds, the shower was dusty and even a bit moldy, and when we got into the bed at night, there was a ton of sand under the sheets (see pictures). It was obvious the linens either hadn't been cleaned at all or weren't cleaned properly. The sandy sheets were our last straw. We called the front desk at that time around 9:30pm and asked what they could do to make this right in the morning as we were too tired to have linens changed or change rooms at that point. The attendant told us they would make things right in the morning, but we never heard back about this. Just ended up sleeping on top of the comforter for the night. - Iron/steamer was broken in the morning so we called down to the front desk to ask for a replacement. They said they would send someone up in a second, but we never received the replacement iron/steamer and ended up having to use our friends'. Honestly just a really disappointing stay altogether. For calling itself a 5-star hotel and charging almost $800/night for a room, we expected a lot more from this hotel. Would not recommend. read more

First time traveling with a pooch and by myself. The experience was absolutely amazing thanks to the Bower and staff. I was celebrating a birthday. When I arrived there was bottle of champagne chilled on ice, a New dog bed and toy for Kona. The welcoming from drive up to lobby entrance was so beautiful and spa like. Very boutique not commercial. Very personable friendly staff. There were a few snafus however they were handled with the best of attitudes and the weekend was Blissful. I will definitely return and have already recommended The Bower & The Dive (rooftop yummies) to a few upscale associates that would love the privacy and luxurious walk in showers! I stayed here for six days. I would have given five stars on the first day, but the rating dropped every single day after that. Pros Great view, especially during Christmas. You can see the Del Coronado and all the Christmas lights in the park, and it is very pretty. Good and convenient location with lots of restaurants, shops and cafes nearby. Short drive to downtown and the convention center, around fifteen minutes. Pretty good pour over coffee. Prompt housekeeping. Friendly staff. Cons There were spiders in the room. If you are on the third floor, every morning before eight, the rooftop restaurant seems to drag furniture around. It is incredibly loud and makes it impossible to sleep. It continued even after complaining multiple times. For four hundred dollars a night, the amenities are embarrassing. The gym is tiny. There is no microwave. Nothing about the property justifies the price. The rooms are very small. They stopped refilling the coffee in the room after a couple of days, and I had to keep asking for it. Also, no iron box. They have a very small handheld pressing iron which is impossible to use. Overall, the location and view cannot make up for how disappointing the stay was, and does not justify their price. read more

Really cute rooftop restaurant with excellent service, but all of our plates were served cold. There's no parking if you're only looking to eat at the restaurant, and there's no espresso machine, so only drip coffee is served (also lukewarm). I assume the server waited for all of our dishes to be ready at the same time, and that's why they were served cold. Regardless, food is the most important aspect, so when it's served absolutely cold and it's over $20 for mere eggs and potatoes, it doesn't matter how cute the place, or impressive the service is, it loses the good work staff puts in. read more

The hotel was very nice, however, I expected it to be exceptionally nice considering the price of the room. We didn't have any maid service the 2 nights we were there. The room was clean but a little small. No closets for putting clothes away. The staff was friendly & professional. We had a nice stay, however, I would rather book a room at the Del and enjoy the amenities like spa services and a pool for the same price. read more

Cute rooftop restaurant. The sitting was comfortable. We were a group of 6 and they accommodated us great. The food was well flavored. I gave them a 3 star because the wait to get the food was more than an hour. When we did get our food my dish was cold. Place is shiny and new. Looks very chic. We went to Dive for an anniversary lunch 1 day before its Grand opening. The staff was uber friendly and courteous. Courtney was our server and she was great! Even offered to turn on the heaters for us. We tried the sliders, fish taco, and the garbanzo salad. The fries are shaved, unique and delish. Sliders and tacos are good but pretty standard for San Diego. Skip the salad, barely had any flavor. Could use some citrus or vinaigrette to it and salt for additional flavor. Drinks we had the Duchess and Mezcal, both were refreshing. The view from the rooftop was great overlooking the bay and views of the Del across. Suggest having blankets for balmy cool Coronado nights. Otherwise great new hangout spot for Islanders! read more

We heard about this new spot on Instagram. We came for brunch and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The Dive restaurant is located on the rooftop of The Bower hotel. All the staff there were beyond friendly and helpful. It was a beautiful day! I ordered a mimosa and the Avo Brioche. The avocado toast was good and fresh. The egg was cooked perfectly the way I asked for it - over hard. I feel it was good but could use a little more flavor. I still enjoyed it and was pleased with the amount of avocado. While all the staff were awesome, food took a very long time to come out and the ones in our group that ordered hot food said their food was cold. We still had a good time here. read more

Stayed here for one night and sadly it did not meet our expectations for the price point. For context we stayed in a premium king room and payed $770. I'll be fair and start with the good. Pros: - the aesthetic of the hotel is very nice and consistent throughout the entire property. - the staff were very friendly and upon arrival offered us sparkling rosé. - the rooftop bar is excellent with amazing service and great drinks. - it is in a great location to explore Coronado, close to shops and restaurants. - the interior of the room was as advertised and felt very luxurious, the bed was very comfortable. - the bathroom products they supplied were great quality. - they did have our room ready a few hours early which was great, but the guy checking in at the same time as us was told he had to wait a few hours so it can vary. - they did give us a later check out at 12 instead of 11 which was nice, but our keys stopped working at 11 so we had to go get them reset which isn't a big deal just wanted to give the full picture. Now for the cons - they really do not have a lot of people working there, so checking in, if you need help with a room key not working, waiting for valet, etc can take a long time which usually is whatever but for $700+ it did stand out. - the view from our room was really just the sidewalk which again for $700+ a night is not very great. - the rooms are quite noisy both from the street and from other rooms. I could hear the rooms next to us watching TV throughout the night and traffic was very loud. - this may not bother others but when we checked in the employee at the front was giving us the overview of the property and frequently did not know details and would say stuff such as "the rooftop closes at 9 or maybe 10 I don't really know, I have a lot going on" which again usually I wouldn't care but again for $700+ a night id lowkey expect the staff to know basic details. Nothing against the employee, seems to be a lack of training/support from management. - there honestly isn't much to do at the hotel itself. - there is only valet parking which is kinda inconvenient but they are upfront about it so there's that. - they have a coffee/pastry situation in the morning but when we went at around 8 am on our floor it was basically all gone, I think they refilled later but it didn't look that appealing. -the fitness center is basically 3 machines in the basement if that matters to you. Overall I would not recommend this hotel at its current price. I think there is better for cheaper, if this place was a few hundred dollars less then maybe I would say it's a good choice. They are newer so hopefully the above improve over time. read more

A premiere boutique hotel experience if ever there was one... The wife and I were doing some hotel hopping before Christmas to get our holiday cheer on and this one will be hard to forget. Bear in mind, everything is not perfect, but the overall is utterly fantastic. The lobby was very contemporary without being overly modern. I was getting a vibe of France or Belgium in spite of never traveling to either. There were a beautiful Christmas tree, sofas and fireplace, and we were immediately feeling great about our choice. We did not notice that the STAFF multi-task a lot here with the front desk even having to retrieve our valet parked vehicle. It may be based on occupancy or season or simply be their philosophy. We did not experience any real cons with it, so I suppose as long as the staff is good with it so are we. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a view of the Del. They are located on a fairly busy road, but the windows provide a solid damper as do multiple layers of dampening curtains. Would I call it ideal for an occasional "maintenance insomniac", maybe not, but it worked out. Noise wasn't really noticeable until morning commute time. The bathroom has Dyson hair styling tools which is another high-end touch. I think Hercule Poirot would LOVE this property. The room was beautiful from A to Z. The use of brass and wood tones, textured concrete and other metals was spectacular visually and to the touch. The Fellows in-room pour over coffee system was high-end and delicious. The metal shower cage was an eye-catching game changer. The room size was good for a boutique property in this location. Room service dining was excellent. They even had a coffee lounge right off our room with comfortable seating, 4 types of creamers (oat milk, whole milk, coconut milk, whole milk), regular and decaf. If you are into architecture and interior design the aesthetics here will have you staring often. I read in advance about the 3rd floor being noisy and the reviewers were somewhat right about that. The restaurant is above you so they will drag chairs in the morning or night (after closing) which you can hear. It is not excessive but light sleepers are not missing it. The restaurant closes at 9pm so that was no big deal at night. The morning did not bother me as much as I thought. It was not really constant. Maybe because of a very comfortable MEDIUM firm bed and all the other highlights I have cited. Almost everything here is so very well thought out and beautifully executed. read more

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed in a professional and friendly way from concierge/manager, Michaela/Mikayla and the valet. This is a new boutique hotel with many, many perks but as with other small-ish, boutique hotels, you're not going to get onsite parking and some other embellishments, as with a large resort (like the older Hotel del across the street). This is about experiences and the vibe and we were there for that! For ex, we knew going in that they have luxurious robes, sheets, mattresses, pillows, in-room pour-over coffee, etc. Those often appeal to couples looking for a luxurious get away and we were not disappointed. One of the pleasant surprises was receiving a high-end, stainless steel, drink container with all day fill-up privileges of: filtered, still water, sparkling water, or hot water. SO MUCH better than getting 2 small plastic water bottles in our room. The room wasn't huge but it was quiet and private with a view of the city of Coronado with a Juliette balcony (no furniture on it). It has 2 shades, one to have privacy, with filtered light, and a black out shade. The products in the room were Le Labo Santal 33 - we LOVE this brand and scent, and we have previously tried the lotion and body wash. We got to try both of those again, and the hand wash, shampoo, and conditioner here at The Bower. We like good product and helped make the world, or at least Coronado Island a better smelling place for a few days! The rooftop restaurant DIVE is super convenient for guests and non-guests with elevator entrances outdoor for visitors and indoors for guests. We ate at Dive at least 4 times during our stay because the food was delicious, coffee great, great views and comfortable seating, and staff attentive and friendly. We had Waygu sliders with fries, Calamari, avo toast, bacon, tator tots, etc. All delicious. We invited a friend to join us for dinner and we weren't rushed, even with a packed rooftop spot. There is one EV charging station onsite by lobby, and our only snag was not being able to charge our new Honda Prologue SUV. But the staff came up with an easy-for-us solution and found nearby EV charging, which they took care of for us. The Bower has both new electric bikes and cruisers with gears for easy riding the beautiful island. They are complimentary and provided with helmets and water. So glad it was easy since it's a small boutique, no hassles to get these bikes. Finally, the lobby and decor is hip without being snobby. Everyone (staff and guests) were friendly without being intrusive. It is right in town across from The Del, which gives you easy access to all the nearby shops and restaurants. We will come back to this hidden, epic, gem very soon as everything about it is easy and generous. read more

We had a wonderful stay at The Bower Hotel and felt comfortable and welcome throughout. What makes a stay memorable are the small, genuine interactions with staff. From housekeeping to valet, everyone was friendly and personable. The lobby clerk stood out. She offered us beach chairs after we checkout and asked about our gondola ride through the Coronado Cays. The bellhop was equally quick and welcoming. At The Dive rooftop bar, this was our third visit, and once again we noticed the teamwork. More than once, another server checked on us even when it wasn't "their" table. Those small touches, along with casual conversation about where we're from and staff sharing a bit about themselves, really set the tone. The highlight for us was how easy the hotel makes it to enjoy Coronado. They provided complimentary bicycles, which we rode around the island, and beach chairs and an umbrella for our time on the sand such a thoughtful perk that took the stress out of planning. I would describe the lobby as "like a living room" and loved the décor and light fixtures. I'll add that the mattress was the best I've slept on in years. If you don't want the hustle and bustle of the Hotel del Coronado across the street, I'd suggest exchanging it for this boutique hotel where the staff-to-room ratio feels like 1:1. The rooftop bar has a vibe that reminds me of old Palm Springs, the kind of place where Hollywood used to slip away for a getaway. The Bower Hotel is a gem, and we can't wait to return. read more

We stayed at the Bower for three nights and had a great time! It's a smaller hotel but with a very dedicated staff and so many nice touches and everything is clean and new. The decor, bedding, bath products etc are amazing. I loved the Dyson hair dryer, the daily morning (amazing!) croissants on every floor, free beverages in the floor lounge, and two very nice complimentary water bottles we got to take home. Our room had a balcony and a view of the Del and it was so relaxing to spend time there. It's also completely walkable- there are tons of shops, restaurants, coffee and the beach within a few blocks and I enjoyed a daily run by the beach. Lavon in particular was incredible, hustling everywhere to take care of us and other customers and the housekeeping staff was also great, timing their visits while we were out and leaving everything refreshed. I dined at The Dive which was 5/5 stars amazing. However, upon leaving I was going to write my memory in the book The Bower had on their front desk. As I was writing an employee walked in, asked if I was staying there to which I replied no, since I live in Coronado. He rudely told me "don't write in that book". There is no sign stating only hotel guests can write in the book, the front desk was unattended and anyone could have taken whatever they wanted. All we wanted to do was write about the amazing birthday celebration we had upstairs . The employee, Sonny, was rude and condescending. I will make sure to never visit The Bower or recommend any of my other of town friends to visit. Do better. read more

We have had two stays at The Bower, and I cannot say enough good things about this gem of a hotel on Coronado. It is a smaller hotel, but friendlier and much more receptive than anywhere else. Everything from arriving, to check-in, to check-out was met with the warmest hospitality I have ever seen at a hotel. The service here at The Bower rivals 5-star hotels, where the staff do everything they can to make your stay comfortable here. For anyone reading this, we have been to Coronado many times. It is one of our favorite places to go here in San Diego. The Hotel Del is a great place to stay, but it gets so busy and cumbersome at times, packed with visitors. Can feel like a circus sometimes that it feels like you can be trapped. The newly renovated Bower (we learned that it was a recent and complete renovation) provides guests with an experience of Coronado without all the fanfare of the Hotel Del. However, here's the secret: The Hotel Del is literally RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET!! It is a 2 minute walk (not even) to get to the beach, waves, sand, and even restaurants. Here's an even GREATER secret: For anyone that doesn't know, The Bower has its own Rooftop Bar and Restaurant!! We have had brunch, dinner, and very late night drinks up there on that rooftop. The views are panoramic, beautiful, and absolutely fitting for Coronado! We love that a rooftop bar is steps away from our room, giving you incredible amenities at this hotel! When I needed ice and the bar was down the hallway, they simply gave me a shovel full of ice and off I went! The service here is impeccable. Thoughtful, thorough, and welcoming. The tiny details are throughout. Everything from the magnetic shower door, to the snappy Dyson hair dryer (she looooved it!), to the electric kettle and tea, shelves and room decorations, mattress and pillows, everything shows that The Bower pays attention to detail. This is now our favorite place to book a reservation and stay on Coronado. It is simply the hidden gem that will make your stay exciting here in San Diego! If you are looking for a stay, I highly recommend The Bower. This is now the go-to place for the beach, especially for Coronado! read more

This hotel is elegant with a contemporary design and superb location close to the beach, restaurants and bars but the 5 stars is for the exceptional customer service my mom and I experienced. I had walker and wheelchair and needed help so called a few days ahead, Isabella was very gracious and assured me about all our specific needs. On arrival we were greeted like VIP's by Isabella and then Devon went over and above to address all our needs from wheelchair storage to hot milk for tea for mom! Nothing was too much - big shout out to Mickela for helping and Tim you guys made our stay exceptional. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the Bower very much. Beautiful room, very comfortable bed, everything brand new and clean, friendly staff! However, I wish hotel management could be more organized. We couldn't call the front desk because our room phone was unplugged and was not charged. I received a welcome text on our arrival, but did not receive a text back for my questions. I think more information about the hotel should be provided, including Wi-Fi password in writing in every room. With a little improvement, this hotel could easily be a 5-star experience. read more

My husband and I took my elderly parents to The Dive on the rooftop to celebrate their anniversary. I had called when I made reservations and I was told they had parking on site, but discovered it's only valet parking and not available for the restaurant, only hotel guests. It took my husband quite awhile to find parking after dropping us off and he ended up parking across the street at the Hotel Del Coronado, very expensive to park there. My dad uses a walker so that wasn't ideal that they don't have handicapped parking. The view is pretty and the staff is very nice and tried to help with the parking situation. The Dive Lemonade mocktail was terrible. The other cocktails were good. The tacos and sliders were delivered to the table, but the two salads didn't come until at least 10 minutes later. We had no place settings on the table when our food came and I had to get up and find a waitress to get some which took another five minutes. The food was okay, but the service was very slow. read more

Very cute but really understaffed. Took 20 minutes to get my car from the valet at 11 in the morning (starting from the time I sent in the valet request via text) and I had to make multiple requests to get enough towels for the room - ended up going to the lobby myself at night and waiting for the one staff member in the lobby to go get the towels for me after the other staff member on duty had apparently forgotten the towel request I'd made a half hour prior. Also, the restaurant never answered their phone, even though I let it ring for several minutes on multiple occasions - this was later explained to me as "someone else was on a long phone call at that time", but I wonder why this hotel doesn't have more than one phone line. Minor quibble is that the free coffee they provided in the lobby in the morning was extremely weak. That said, it's a very pleasant and otherwise upscale-looking hotel, the staff members were uniformly very sweet and well-meaning, and when the towels did arrive, they were nice and fluffy and large. I was on the fence about leaving a review because I did enjoy the stay, apart from the very long waits for everything I needed. But the 15-minute delay between checking out and having my car pull up is what gave me time and inclination to write this review. read more
