We were given a $250 gift certificate to stay at the El Cordova Hotel in 2019, it was misplaced and we considered it lost. Last weekend we found it. I called the hotel five times in three days and left messages, with no returned calls. I finally reached someone and was told the gift certificate had expired, end of conversation. California Civil Code Section 1749.5 states that gift cards/certificates cannot expire. We have decided not to pursue the matter, because who wants to stay someplace you are not welcomed. Lesson learned: There are many nice places to stay in Coronado, El Cordova is not one on them. read more

OK, I wasn't sure about staying in this hotel, but I decided since it was cheaper than the hotel and Still Close enough, I would. The room was decent. Nothing modern, mostly older vibes, but comfortable and pretty spacious huge closet! The only thing I just did not liked was the walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors. Especially if somebody's being loud. I was directly in front of the restaurant so I could hear everything that's going around. Other than that The staff was great, rooms were great. Probably another downside is, there is no parking available there. You have to park about a block or two away, but I would stay here again. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here in June and we have been trying to get in contact with the general manager for a little under a month now and when we finally did, we didn't get the answer we were looking for, but that's not the point. The point is that I called a few times and was told to email the general manager and I got no response. I was told to call back at certain times still no response. They even took down my name and my phone number so that he would call me still no response. For how much money people are spending to travel to Coronado, the area, and the atmosphere I am shocked that this is a customer service level that people are experiencing with this hotel. I advised to maybe not stay here. I don't want to come off as rude. This was just my experience. read more

Location! Location! Did I mention they have a great location? We were thrilled with this hotel. Literally, right across the street from the Coronado Hotel with easy beach access--and right next-door to several excellent restaurants! There is shopping all around. It doesn't get better than that. Yes, it's an older hotel. The rooms have a Spanish flare, which is kind of cool. They are old, but they are clean. They are comfortable. Not fancy. The staff really makes this special. From a few phone calls before our arrival, to the front desk staff, the people who work here seem genuinely happy and truly want to be helpful. We arrived early in the day and they were kind enough to let us check in, and even upgraded our room to one that was available. There is a pool in a hot tub and we used both. There are also two restaurants attached to the hotel, and both are excellent. There is offsite parking for a daily fee and that was definitely worth it. You could park right out front to load and unload before you move your car. Housekeeping is available on request. If you are looking for a great place to stay on Coronado without a high resort, price tag, this is the place for you! Highly recommend! read more

Outdated old hotel. Had to return to front desk after climbing the steps to the room as the key cards did not work in the door. Rude front desk staff. Absolutely no parking!! Nowhere to unload your car. We did it in the alley behind the hotel which lead to verbal discussions with other people driving to their condos behind the hotel, Steep steps to get to room. Bathrooms are very small and outdated. Tub/shower has a strange floor in it as it collapses slightly when you step in. Full kitchen with no utensils. Front desk would not give us a wine bottle opener. They sent us to the Mexican restaurant who would not open our wine bottle unless we brought the bottle to them. How embarrassing. We were not able to cook the one meal we had planned on using the kitchen for. Will not ever stay here again with the other choices on the island to choose from. read more

And we had to call 2 times to get help and it took them forever to get someone here to help fix it. Would not stay again also the pull bed felt dirty. First time visiting Coronado. Amazing history of this place and expansion. Walked in was greeted by the front desk. Our room wasn't ready yet, but they offered to hold our bags. They have a couch and chairs as well as water available in their lobby. We killed about 2 hours before checking back to see if a room was ready and they were able to accommodate us. Some rooms are located up stairs. Be cautious if you have large bags or children. I was surprised when I saw the room. I was expecting just the bed and bathroom, but it also came with a large walk in closet that we were able to store our bags. I was also surprised to see a mini fridge and microwave. They have a little binder with the history of the hotel, things to do, and recommendations. Because this location is 100+ years old and a converted hotel, the bathroom was a tight space but had everything you need: toilet, shower, sink. There is Miguel's right in the middle of the hotel. They are open until 9ish, but those wrapping up dinner were heard for a while longer. Then the morning came and the restaurant staff was a little loud cleaning before opening. Jayden assisted us that evening checking if late checkouts were possible, it is based on availability, but we were lucky enough to get extended for a fee. We enjoyed the beach the following day. The hotel offers beach chairs and umbrellas first come, first serve. 1/2 of the morning front desk crew was friendly and helpful. The first one we asked the chairs for seemed to brush us off. We would like to see some renovations and made an addition to a fitness center for the price paid, but location is premium here. read more

My fiancé and I booked here for 2 nights and ended up unfortunately leaving early and didnt stay our whole vacation. Thankfully, we are receiving a partial refund. I loved the little feel of it and how it was close to most things in Coronado. However, it was really hard to overlook a lot of things. The noise level is I N S A N E like we can hear the person snoring below us. Ive never experienced that. I know many others had a hard time with the noise level and it was difficult to get a good night's rest. The trucks were so loud outside and someone at 7 am was throwing wood into the back of a trailer and it was so loud. People were up so early so we can feel the slamming of the doors and people talking and walking around. It was awful. We couldn't find any parking and was not advised on any parking options or anything so my fiancé parked a couple blocks away. That was the thing that bothered me was the staff were not as welcoming or informative about our stay. When we left, we were not given any options of what to expect or what we can do next to recieve a refund for the night we didnt stay. The rooms are pretty old feeling and not very inviting. The bathroom was tiny as well. There was a really big hole where the soap dish used to be and it wasn't very pleasant to look at. Especially with how much we paid for the room. There were also holes in the ceiling with wiring and we were a bit concerned. It just was not our thing and if you like older hotels with that "old town" feel, then this is for you! We unfortunately will not be staying here in the future. It was supposed to be a little vacation away from home for us but it was not restful and relaxing like I hoped. I usually try to stick these things out, but I couldn't. Listen to the reviews about noise if youre looking for a quiet space. If youre going here to have a good time, then by all means. I'm giving 2 stars cuz of the room, staff, and the fact that I had to leave early due to all the problems. read more

We had a fantastic stay at El Cordova in Coronado, California last year. The service has been nothing short of the utmost professional from start to finish. The property itself is absolutely beautiful--charming, well-maintained, and full of character. I especially want to recognize Danny, who was truly amazing to talk to. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and his accommodating and genuinely hospitable nature made the experience even more enjoyable. We were extremely disappointed with our stay at El Cordova Hotel. We stayed in a two bedroom suite with friends. We found mold in the closet, air vents that were loose in the ceiling & holes in the walls that weren't repaired properly and just painted over. The kitchen was also not really supplied well enough to do much cooking. This hotel was extremely over priced for what we got, and we would not stay here again. read more

Went for a one night stay for my wife's birthday. They put us in unit 102 that has the view of an alley way and the air conditioner units of the building next door. The room is dated but decent. The jacuzzi was tiny and not hot...but rather warm...so we passed. BUT...the big but...there were rats in the walls and ceiling of our room. They were so loud eating the insulation, running around and squeaking/shrieking that we were up all night. zero sleep. It sounded like they were going to eat through the walls and come into our room. When we checked out in the morning and told the front desk they feigned being shocked but did nothing to make it better. Booked on BOOKING.com and they wouldn't do anything either. This is a great hotel!! Centrally located on Coronado Island, this old style Spanish themed hotel has lot to offer! The room we had was like a 2 bedroom house, with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. Each bedroom had its own fully stocked bathroom as well as huge walk-in closets. The living room and bedrooms had big screen TVs, and the kitchen had a gas stove, refrigerator, microwave along with cabinets full of all the dishes you need. The location was great, with only 5 minute walk to the beach and many restaurants within walking distance also. And if you don't want to leave to eat, Miguels Cocina is the restaurant in the hotel, and their food is very good and popular. The only thing not great is parking, they have a garage a few blocks away where you park at, but given how great this hotel is, that's small potatoes!! read more

My wife and I stayed over the Memorial Day weekend and we really liked the Spanish themed rooms. The hotel is in a great location with a ton of shops and food in walking distance. We did have trouble with some appliances with our room but the manager understood and we were compensated for the inconvenience. The staff was very friendly and helpful the entire time. The restaurant Miguel's does start setting up at 7am so be prepared to wake up around that time. Overall a great stay and we will be back. read more

I stayed in room 53 for three nights and found my room to be average at best. Vinyl floors with no carpeting, somewhat dated furniture and kitchen appliances, and small bathroom with a single sink. Bathroom would've been very difficult with more than one person trying to get ready in the morning. Most annoying was that the bedroom backed onto an alleyway, which was used as a shortcut from one street to another, as well as delivery vehicles very early in the morning, garbage trucks, etc. Also, the room above was very noisy with what must been vinyl Floors with no carpeting as well. Children and adults were clamoring around in their hard soled shoes at all hours, sliding furniture across the floors, etc. It sounded like one guest was waking, getting ready and leaving very early each morning (5:00am). It made me wonder if it was really a long-term rental for a family living in the rooms above. I got very little sleep for three nights. read more

I stayed here for my time share and it was a wonderful staycation, the staff was really nice and did me a solid, we stayed at another hotel and check out was at 11 am I asked if we could check in early cause check in was at 3 pm and they let me check In at 10:30 am so I can get ready for the wedding I was going to attend. The front desk was sweet and gave us snacks and bottle water, they walked us to our room. My room was A one bedroom suite with a kitchenette so a full fridge and a small stove, we had a king bed and a bathroom with a tub And shower. He bed was comfortable and we were Across from the pool, the only thing wish this place had a bigger pool and a gym, but we Are at Coronado so we Just walked the beach, we will be coming back again . read more

Excellent location but the rooms are lacking in pretty much every way. On the positive side, the room was clean. On the negative side, the wall HVAC system is unusable while sleeping unless you can sleep through anything. It kicks on and off which is to be expected, but when kicking on it was so loud, I thought I was on an Afghanistan tour of duty. The shower is so small, it's basically unusable. And the shower nozzle was no higher than my chest. So I had to take a second shower when getting home to rinse off all the soap. It's probably the smallest bathroom I have ever seen. And the toilet seat is so low, I thought I was in China. The parking is less than desirable. I'll spear you the details and summarize by saying bring your walking shoes. Ending on a positive note, the staff is very helpful and very responsive. They text and respond to texts very quickly. read more

The moment leisure stay occupancy was approved & announced by Governor Newsom, the hubby & I immediately begin researching the right spot to enjoy our Babymoon. Avid fans of San Diego, we opted to try something old but new, which landed us in Coronado Island. So the stay. Absolutely amazing! Customer service started off on the right foot prior to our check in, when we phoned just to see at what capacity El Cordova would operate in -- despite the Phase 2 of the pandemic, we wanted to confirm the pool and dining wouldn't be an issue. -Tim really assured us that all would be well AND he even graced us with a room upgrade once he heard we would be celebrating our "Babymoon" -- and mama-to-be is less than 4 weeks away. -Benny & Ivy, just exceptional at checking in with guest on their wants/needs AND they have great attitudes which goes a long away. The Room (#82) we adored. Wonderful Spanish touches with a comfortable bed. The kitchen was fully-equipped which made for refrigeration storage and microwave reheating if needed. For certain people who cannot handle outdoor sounds, this room might not be for you seeing as it is directly over the restaurant. This didn't bother us but if your looking to rest between 6p-10p, opt out. Regretfully we didn't get great weather this weekend, so though the pool was open we failed to venture down. After reading several reviews I was nervous about parking, but we easily found parking about .2 miles from hotel in residential area and didn't move the car until it was time to check out. Why!? No need to because this hotel is centrally located in the heart of the island -- restaurants, beach, etc. -- and if I can handle the walk, waddling & all, I'm confident most can to. So what's wrong with this place? Well if I'm forced to find an issue, I will say the only setback is the water temperature drops significantly when showering at the same time as another room/guest -- I only know this because when we got in, it was great (hot) BUT when I heard the water coming from our a neighboring room it cooled down. Bringing this to a close -- I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. If ever we get time away after the baby comes, we would certainly consider the Cordova Hotel. read more

Key note: Noise. If you are hoping to explore during the day, eat good food, and enjoy a drink at the end of the night, this hotel is a prime location to enjoy Coronado. However, if you expect a good night sleep to recharge, this is not the place. The walls do not absorb any sound and you can hear everything going on around you and we were woken up multiple times throughout the night. It also surrounds Miguel's Restaurant which starts setting up at 7:00AM, so expect your alarm to be moving chairs and banging pans. Definitely a missed opportunity for a hotel, it has potential just not an ideal hotel for a vacation. read more

Edit: dear owner, thank you for your response. I'm sure you never intend to inconvenience your guests. And I don't fault you for not being able to get us into our room early, although it shouldn't normally be too difficult to get one clean room within an hour or so. But check in is at 4 and when we came back at that time we were told 4:10. At 4:10 we were told our room was being cleaned right then and would be ready in 20 more minutes. 20 minutes later we were told it was being vacuumed, and 15 minutes after that we were finally given a room. for a 200 sq ft room this seems like an unreasonable amount of time to keep us waiting. Perhaps being told upfront that we'd be waiting an extra hour, and maybe given the complimentary appetizer at that point to go use during the delay would've helped. We've come to Coronado many times and consider it one of our go-to destinations. This year for our 24th wedding anniversary we booked a room here and we're excited to try it out. We have previously stayed at The Glorietta Bay, Coronado Beach Club, and the La Avaneda Inn. We love Miguel's Restaurant and have been in this lobby many times and always wanted to stay here. I very much wish we hadn't. While the staff at the front desk have been friendly, we have been waiting for our room for almost three hours due to one of their housekeepers leaving early. We arrived a couple hours early, before check-in time, but they weren't ready for us even 45 minutes after they said they would be. We keep hearing the housekeeper is "in there now" and should be done "in twenty minutes." The lobby bathroom floor is covered in water too. Okay, we have now been "upgraded" to a room... overlooking the busy restaurant! I like meeting new people, but I don't want them joining me in my bedroom on my anniversary. A lot of conversations and rattling of dishes are carrying through our walls. This is the least romantic anniversary we've had, and seeing as how we only planned a one-night getaway, we're barely going to have time to enjoy anything. I'm very upset because I feel like our anniversary plans completely backfired and you can't get that back. The "delux" room itself is small and plain. It's more of a motel than a hotel. I'm afraid to know what the non-upgraded room would've looked like. On the plus side, we get to go home tomorrow to a larger bedroom and only three kids' voices on the other side of the wall rather than a whole communities' kids. Next year is 25, we definitely plan to do better. At least we get a free appetizer at the Brigantine. read more

We are in love with this hotel! We checked out of a very upscale hotel near the Gaslamp where we were attending a business event and transferred to El Cordova for a weekend getaway. El Cordova is a perfect boutique hotel with a hacienda feel. Our room was at the top of a steep staircase with Mexican tile. The room was renovated without losing the warm feel. We loved the old tile and solid wood doors. The bathroom was very small, but everything was super clean. Every single employee went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We loved the beautiful quaint courtyard and stayed beside the fire pit each night. read more

The previous manager's response to both mine and my fiancée's recounting of the events with Mauricio are both false and highly insulting. We were falsely accused of wrongdoing (as we were obviously not the perpetrators of the loud and drunken yelling, since we were ASLEEP). As mentioned by many previous guests, the walls are paper thin. Maybe what we thought was a perfectly reasonable volume to be watching TV at night was not acceptable to a neighbor (there was an elderly lady next door), but it was certainly not at a volume that would be unacceptable at any other hotel with normal walls. We didn't complain about the ladies across the hall from us who were on a bachelorette weekend and clearly having the time for their lives, because we respected their right to have a good time. So we turned on our TV to drown out their party and went to sleep. Maricio banged on our door and woke us up, and then left and proceeded to call us and yelled at us and then got into a verbal altercation with my companion when he denied the wrongdoing. Do you like being falsely accused of yelling and making a ruckus when you're asleep? We certainly didn't appreciate it. While hotel staff do not deserve to be treated unfairly by customers, customers equally do not deserve to be mistreated by staff and then lied about to their managers. read more

We were in SD for a few days and decided to get out of our Airbnb because the bed was awful. This place is beautiful with Spanish/Mexican tiles everywhere. Centrally located with a broad load of restaurants and bars all the way around and the beach is less than a 5 min walk (if you can make it across the street). The beds and pillows were very comfortable. the room is small but very nice. The bathroom is smaller than anything you would find in a Tokyo hotel but tile work is so beautiful you will not notice the size. Staff were also very friendly. Honestly, for the price, I am not sure I have ever stayed at a better hotel in a tourist town. read more

If you make a reservation here, MAKE SURE TO NOT GET ROOM 117!!! This room is so small it can only fit a bed and night stands. No desk or even a chair. I am here on a business trip yet have nowhere to work :( No counter in the bathroom to put your toiletries and no big person is going to be able to comfortably take a shower. It's almost as small as an RV shower. The walls are so thin that I am laying in bed right now listening to the movie playing in the next room. Also know that there are no elevators, so pack light! Great location and nice staff, but uncomfortable accommodations. read more
