This is surely one of the most pleasant coffee shops in the borough these days. It gets crowded with the MacBook crowd on weekdays, but the pebble-lined garden is tranquil enough to offset any background banter. The simple menu reminds me of Lella Alimentari in Williamsburg, with light piadines on offer. For this first visit, I went with just a shaken espresso, but I'll return for food.

From JFK airport we went straight here for much needed coffee and food. I was looking for a cafe in Brooklyn and this popped up. Knowing how long lines can get in NY I did an online order and was able to arrive and wait only 5 minutes. We were greeted upon entering. The space is small. Each of the tables inside were already taken. There's a small outdoor patio with more chair and also 2-3 tables in front of the door. It was too cold to eat outside so we just grabbed our sandwiches and coffee. I enjoyed my cortado and the sandwiches were delicious and flavorful. Restroom was clean except the light wasn't working so I guess that why they had candles. I'd definitely return when I visit NY again.

Delicious coffee, friendly staff, and really nice interior with both indoor, covered/enclosed patio, and outdoor seating.

Came here for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. There was a line when I first got in, but it moved pretty fast. Prices are definitely higher than some of the pictures of the menu so keep that in mind! I got the benedetta and an almond milk cappuccino which came out to $20. Drink came out right away, took a little while longer for the sandwich. Both were really delicious. Also was really nice to sit in the heated outdoor area to the side.

Really disappointed. Went in and ordered the iced tea and was handed this. It's a 100 degree day and all I wanted was a cold drink. The tea had 0 ice and was lukewarm.

Extremely rude staff and the place has weirdly strict rules (like not being able to use your laptop despite it being a cafe??). Even with us eating outside and ordering drinks they were extremely rude about us eating a bagel, which we had to bring due to allergies! And while ordering the person behind the counter was mean and allowed us no time to look over the menu before telling us to move aside for other people. Plus half the drinks were unavailable despite it being before 11am on a weekend?! This place is overhyped and not worth it at all. Tried it twice and each time was a horrible experience (the other time they wouldn't allow me to come it cause they were "closed" despite it being an hour before closing. Lastly, the drinks and food are overpriced definitely wouldn't come back.

An interesting variety of coffee and non-coffee drinks, reasonably priced but delicious food, and a cute backyard. It's the best!

And I gotta say, the bartender is doing work. He's the only one working and the whole place is filled up and he manages it very well. They have food and drinks, mocktails included. I love it here. It's very cozy and homey. But just remember to be courteous, that this is a business so it's okay to do work here but if you're gonna be chilling for a while make sure you're getting some drinks every hour or tipping the 'tender. Also careful with some of the hot drinks they can be really.... hot. I burnt the roof of my tongue on my hot cider drink.

It provides the perfect setting for Barzakh Cafe, a social club/gathering spot of sorts for the pan-Maghreb community across New York. We came for the couscous celebration on July 4th. The owner is Mauritanian, and the couscous reminded me of the ones I've eaten in the northern reaches of Senegal, with tender potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. I had been hoping for something closer to kosksi, but the dish was enjoyable nonetheless. We sat outside in the casually-laid out backyard while hearing songs blending French and Maghrebian Arabic emanating from inside. Barzakh also hosts events from outside the region, including qawwali nights and the like. It is a rare unique space in the neighborhood.
