At the beginning of October my husband picked up takeout from Cosimos like we have done for years. I got the house salad with some add-ons and he brought it to me at work. Within an hour I started feeling sick. By the next morning I called my doctor and he sent me to the ER. I had food poisoning and it took a day in the hospital and week after to start to feel better. My father went to Cosimos the day I was in the ER to let them know what happened. He spoke with the manager and gave his/my information and NO ONE CALLED US!! We didn't want anything from them just to let them know this happened and they should take precautions. My family is long time Newburgh residents and I am extremely upset. OK I have to give them five stars. There is nothing about what I i have eaten that I can criticize in the least. I had the calamari which was crisp and tender all at once. The marinara sauce had lots of garlic and cracked pepper. I will say I wish the marinara sauce was on the side. However they did give me a cup of it as I asked. I ordered a busy pizza. Those of you that know me know that I do not do busy pizzas. I ordered fennel (a fan of Fennel) and hot Italian sausage. I'm just gonna leave that at that. This was a fabulous place! It is a family place with a lovely atmosphere. Our waitress was great and helpful with recommendations. It's always special when you find a place with such a great menu that you'd like to comeback to the next day to try another dish. Sadly, we had a full schedule and would not be in town for dinner the next night. DINNER: I enjoyed their Portobella Raviolis. It was a good portion and full of flavor. Our son had the Create Your Own pizza and loved it. My husband had the salmon on top of broccoli rabe (broccolini) and fagioli (Tuscan bean). He was really happy with his meal. The salmon was cooked perfectly and it was a nice sized portion. DRINKS: Although the food was fabulous, I did have one disappointment, thus the 4 stars. I'm a bourbon girl, and especially when traveling, like to try Old Fashions and other drinks with bourbon in them. The Old Fashion here was not that great. Maybe they had an off night. If you try it and like it, let me know. I like to hear what others think too. My hubby enjoyed his IPA by a local brewery. Wish I'd taken a picture to remind me of the name. Sorry guys! DESSERT: OMG guys! They have these sherbet deserts that are so yummy. Our son enjoyed the pineapple sherbet served in a frozen pineapple 1/2. Service is shocking, so many hostess' at the table but none was able to help. Our group was patient but they had us wait for 45 minutes to seat us and once they did call us in, they did not have space for all of us. It was awkward and unprofessional. Would never go back or recommend. read more

Went here for dinner with 3 other people. Service was mediocre. Ordered calamari which was good. I had the dinner special pizza, a white pizza with shrimp and sautéed greens. Crust was super thin so it wasn't able to stand up to the toppings, resulting in a very soggy crust. Flavor was not remarkable. The rest of my party had pasta of various sorts. The serving size is enormous. Although the wait staff are courteous, they are not very attentive. We were asked if we were "still working on " our food or would we like containers to bring it home. Visiting from California and stopped here for a late lunch. I loved the marinated olives with herbed olive oil and their fabulous rustic bread that was great dipped in the herbed olive oil. I had the lobster risotto which I really enjoyed but I found the rice a tad soft. My daughter had the mozzarella ravioli and and the Caesar salad and loved it! Don't let the flashy sign fool you. This place is amazing. Excellent ultra flavorful Italian food. Very attentive, friendly & knowledgable service. I'm not sure if this is a chain (I'm not a fan of chains) but I can make an exception for this place. A party of seven of us were swiftly seated despite being very busy, and our server was impeccable never missing a beat. The clams casino was made with little Neck clams which were succulent and delicious. Very fresh crusty bread complimentary with extra virgin olive oil crushed red pepper and large olives make for a nice start. They serve long hots peppers as a regular menu option. If you love hot you'll love these! The salad with beets and pistachios and goats cheese was excellent. I've been a few times now, and I always get the spicy chicken fusilli with fontina. I don't want to know the fat content but it sure is delicious. The roast pork over Pappardelle, grilled shrimp over pasta rice, and pizzas are also good choices. I like my pizza little bit more char & crunch. But everyone else really seems to love their pizza. We had excellent cappuccinos. Make room for dessert. The Nutella pot de creme with housemaid charred marshmallow was divine. The menu offers creative smaller appetizers, traditional Italian dishes, pasta dishes, seafood, ultra fresh salads, & daily specials as well as all a cart additions. It's always busy here. Met a good friend here for an early dinner as I was passing through the area. Liked the ambiance immediately. Classy. Had a choice of dining outside (too noisy as the restaurant is on a main road and it was rush hour) or in one of two rooms inside. We chose the smaller, quieter room that you enter as you come into the restaurant. We both ordered the Eggplant Parmesan. We specially requested garlic and oil on the rigatoni instead of tomato sauce. Delicious. Their authentic, flavorful sauce tells me that everything here is homemade with great care. It was just about the best sauce I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The eggplant was very good as well - just the right cut, and enough to take home for 1 or 2 other meals (!). The server was perfectly attentive. Our beverages and food came out within a reasonable amount of time. I would like to make mention of their bathroom. OK, just the Ladies Room. It was sparkling clean and very inviting. One of the nicest restaurant bathrooms I have ever experienced. Deserves mention. What can I say? There is more than ample parking, and even a Tesla charging station right outside. Coming from NJ where Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen, Cosimo's is a gem. Wow! Everything has been great: starting with their their tonic water (trust me, plenty of places serve Titos & Polar. Gag!), the wide slices of cheese they use over the salads, the unpitted olive they drop on the oil plate served with their crusty bread, their amazing balsamic honey dressing... For some reason after the reno they changed their menu. Menu changes are cool sometimes but not when you mess with a signature dish that was my absolute fave. My husband and I are traveling from Virginia to Cape Cod. We stopped for the night and found this establishment close to our hotel. Looked promising for a tasty supper. The drinks tasted like cleaning fluid, the Caesar salad was tasteless weird lol. I ordered a seafood pasta thing (diavolo?) that was weird and rubbery and tasted like old socks. My water glass had a big chip (sliced my lip but I'm fine, and a big crack down the side on further inspection). Our server was trying his best and we very much appreciated him. The cost of my meal was deducted from check do to water glass thing, I would not have asked for this but nice the restaurant did this. The music was loud and totally out of touch with Italian restaurant vibe. Overall this place was awful awful awful. I asked for doggie bag as I couldn't eat my lousy dinner however felt bad throwing it out. On second thought I tossed it immediately upon returning to hotel. Since changing their menu we have been going to the Middletown location. The herb roasted chicken is no longer on the menu with mashed potatoes and spinach. A couple of meals that we ordered were not up to the standard that they used to have before the renovation. I don't know why they changed the menu ...the new brined chicken with the hot potatoes is just not good in my opinion. My husband ordered the steak frites and the steak was just tough. This used to be our favourite place to go. Thankfully the pizzas are still up to par. read more

Came in the other evening with my husband and son. My son was craving calamari and this was definitely the spot to get some! It was cooked to perfection, crispy and fresh. I ordered eggplant parmesan which was delightful and a nice portion that I took home to reheat the following afternoon. My husband had the sirloin which was nice, cooked medium rare just how he likes with broccoli rabe on the side. The only thing is he wished he changed the croquette potatoes that came with it to smashed garlic potatoes. He said the croquettes were no bueno. Our waiter was excellent but the "host/guy" walking around looking over tables pacing the dining room with the very long painted fingernails was very unappealing. That was the only down side. It made for uncomfortable dining. I would go again but maybe request not to be seated in that particular area. read more

This location is SO much better than it's sister location in Middletown. Much more elegant and peaceful than the others. Food is excellent for lunch or dinner and the bar area is small yet lively. I highly recommend going to this location over the Middletown one. read more

From beginning to end it was great. Jocelyn the hostess was sweet and pleasant. Brianna the waitress is fantastic and knowledgeable. We had everything from apps to dessert and not one complaint. It is a bit pricey so be ready. But the food and wine choices are really delicious. _________________________________________________ Soooo, went back for my anniversary dinner a couple of days ago. Everything was good, but then at dessert time I was sadly disappointed. I ordered the warm chocolate lava cake and was so excited and couldn't wait to get it. But then once I received it I could tell just by looking at that it that it was not an actual warm cake with lava in the center. It was more like their flourless chocolate cake that they have. I decided to call and ask someone about this and I was told they actually serve a fudge type of chocolate cake and no lava. Fake news!!! Very nice and pleasant and happy to work employee who gets commended for her constant attention to our group of 6. Best Italian I've had this side of Catania. Jeanine, best server ever, made sure our second anniversary dinner perfect. From timing and delivery of food and drinks, she was outstanding. BF had Mixed Grill, steak outstanding but homemade sausage like a religious experience. Damn. Really. My arancini appetizer spot-on including piselli in the San Manzano red sauce, and Margherita pizza better than great. Sauce Marzano-splendid, fresh crust chewy on the inside perfectly baked and crusty on bottom real mozzarella di bufo.... We came to Cosimo's after a long day of travel. Our hotel was nearby and the receptionist told us that we could get a discount at the restaurant by showing our room key. That helped make our dinner decision easy. When we saw the full parking lot, we thought there would be a significant wait. But I hopped out of the car, went in and asked, and found we could be seated immediately. As we were pretty hungry, we couldn't have been happier to hear this. Son got a margherita pizza. It was delicious. The crust was the perfect combo of chewy/crisp, the sauce and toppings were fresh, and it arrived piping hot. Daughter had spaghetti and meatballs. Again, the dish had a lovely fresh taste and the meatballs were just moist enough and were flavorful. Husband and I both had a pasta special -- I can't remember the name, but it was penne with sausage and kale and in a wonderful tomato-ey broth, not really a sauce. It was one of the best bowls of pasta I've ever had, perfectly cooked, and the sausage looked and tasted homemade -- it was that fresh and tasty. We were so full there wasn't room for dessert, but I'm sure it would have been just as good as the entrees we enjoyed. Add to all this an efficient and friendly server and a cheery ambience, and I can't imagine a nicer way to end a day on the road. We would definitely return to Cosimo's if we're ever in the area again, and we heartily recommend it to travelers and locals alike. read more

We got there early ahead of the rush and was pleasantly surprised to get right in. Looks and feels like a true Italian family place. The waitress was very pleasant and knew the menu so it made it easy. The pizza, a small one was one of the best I ever had. We ordered the chicken parm and honestly I like a thinner cutlet but this was really very tender. We were going to skip dessert but opted on the cannoli and a creme broulet. We walked out stuffed and happy. My only comment is, geeze they bring the food out fast. But even with that we left with a warm thankyou and goodbye by the Mgr and the hostess. My wife and I are regulars at Cosimo's in Woodbury. Rarely if ever have we had a bad meal or experience there. And yes consistency is the mark of a great restaurant or chain. Just ask McDonald's. Regrettably Cosimo's in Newburgh, at least on this occasion, fell far short. Especially the kitchen. An example. The chicken francese at Woodbury is an elegant two piece cutlet presented beautifully and seasoned nicely. At Newburgh it was one thick hunk of almost cooked through chicken breast. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. Food is consistently good, and service is always excellent. It's a friendly and fun atmosphere. I do not, as a rule - take the reviews for restaurants or business establishments under consideration before trying them out. I prefer to explore and experience for myself, before making a firm judgement. This stems from the idea that it may be an off night for a "server" or "chef"... So I like to give it a chance a few times, and then base my experience from that. When I read reviews that refer to staff members as "brain dead" or inattentive; and food as "greasy" by people who claim to be "fellow Yelpers" .. ( what does that really mean?) I have to laugh...and wonder about that person's attitude and disposition. Grain of salt time... Therefore, having dined many times at Cosimos's on Union, and enjoyed the service, staff and dining fare- I can say without hesitation that it is a truly wonderful restaurant with wonderful service.
