I was provided the privilege to get a "behind the scenes" tour and meet the staff of Costa Family Dentistry. Wow. This group is as personable as it gets. I walked in, immediately greeted with a smile and I was welcomed by everyone. I was told about how the business started, etc. I was provided with a tour of the facility. Speaking of state of the art! I would have never known about the place, assuming they work with children (there's a sign that says pediatrics), but nope, adults as well. In fact, they separate adults if you want to get away from kids. There are small chairs with Ipads up front for the kids, a room to relax you (if you have anesthesia, and around the corner, they have private rooms for the patients. The best part of this place is they have a "comfort menu." You can choose between a blanket, pillow, ear phones, ipad or NETFLIX! They have small flat screen tvs above you. When I spoke to one of the nurses who was very approachable, I did let her know I didn't have a dentist, but this makes me thrilled to come to a dentist. read more

This happens to be the 2nd time major dental work performed by your practice that has gone terribly wrong. Allowing your phones to roll over to voicemail during the middle of the day isn't also what I'd expect from a medical practice given the abundance of call centers willing to lend their services. What's more disheartening is that your receptionist Alexis continuously put me on hold to then determine what to tell me; which often time is that the Dentist whom treated me is not available. Here we are (8) month later and I'm yet to get a call back from Dr. Kim the dentist who performed my crown. I have since taken my business to another practice when today I was reminded that my crown needs adjustment/replacement. This explains my unresolved pain. As of this review, I'm still awaiting a response form Dr. Kim as to whether she will correct the issue and properly seal my crown. By this time, I'm hoping and praying no further harm has been caused but I do know one thing; I have not been able to comfortably chew on the right side of my mouth since this so-called crown was placed back in February of 2023. read more

Terrible. Don't go for adult dental care! The facility looks nice, front desk is helpful. But, if you are visiting this place for an annual/bi-annual check up they are going to tell you that you need a deep-cleaning and need to shell out an additional 300 to 500 USD in addition to what the insurance will cover. They did that for both me and my wife, which baffled me! I consulted Dr. Courtney and she appeared to be not genuinely caring enough for her patients. Overall I was not only left unimpressed but am absolutely determined not to go there ever again for my dental care. Must say that we were pretty impressed with the Pediatric Dentist Dr. Jonathan Konz. He seemed to be very caring and was able to connect with my 5 year old daughter. So, if you are looking for pediatric dentist, Dr Konz is a good person to go to. However, for adults, if you are planning to visit for an annual/bi-annual visit, my sincere suggestion is to stay away! read more

Everyone who left less than a five is wild. Costa family dentistry is amazing, their staff is nice and fun, and don't make you feel self conscious like many other ashburn area dentists do. They really helped me out when I broke a tooth, and my original dentist put a cap on it instead of fixing it like she said she would. Dr. Costa provided a dental service to me on 9/17/2018. The office collected $2872 on the same day. I thought they have contacted Aetna (my insurance company) and that was the amount Aetna said I should pay. I paid in full. I checked the benefit explanation four months later. It showed the code provided by Costa was invalid, therefore Aetna didn't pay a penny. I called the office and Linda answered my call. Linda and I had many unpleasant phone exchanges. Linda was very rude and irresponsible. It took me 5 months to chase Costa office to submit the documents requested by Aetna. Based on the new code, Aetna made some adjustments and issued a check of $667.20 to Costa. I received a refund check of $667.20 from Costa office on 4/24/2019. The updated Aetna claim shows "Patient Responsibility" is $1784.80. I paid $2872 to Costa on 9/17/2018 and finally got $667.20 back from Costa. Therefore, Costa still owed me $420. ($2872.00 - $1784.80 - $667.20 = $420.00) I contacted the office Manager, Denise. She totally ignored the "Patient Responsibility" amount, kept insisting on what they received from Aetna was what I should get. I got Dr. Costa involved. He got Denise on my case again but he didn't follow through. I was so sick of dealing with Costa office on this issue for more than a year. For $420, it's not worth my time and all the negative emotions. The lesson I learned from this painful experience is: Don't pay anything extra in advance and expect to get refund later. Once the money is in other people's pocket, the ball is in their court. You may never see the ball back to your court at all. Note: I have all the email exchanges to support this review. read more

Beware. Awful experience. Went in for my regular cleaning covered by insurance and was told my options were to either receive a deep cleaning or leave. It's my personal choice whether or not I want to receive or delay a deep cleaning, not theirs to tell me they "ethically have to" I asked for a regular insurance covered cleaning and they denied. Dr. Costa and his entire team are excellent. I never have to wait more then 5 minutes. Costs are always explained prior to treatments. Look, we pretty much all hate going to the dentist but we have to go right? Costs & team always do their best to be gentle and as pain free as possible. I appreciate that. Dr. Costa has always done what I feel is superior work. He is a bit of a perfectionist like me and always seems to go that extra mile. He is also big on preventative dental unlike some dentists who just like to "drill & fill" and see it as job security. His office staff are super friendly and always greet me by name. I go there merely because its closely. The dentists are ok - although they keep changing every year or so. I have no major concerns with the dentists but the front desk - they don't know what they are doing. My appointment was changed to some other provider when I had specifically asked for that provider. When asked if I can see the profiles of their hygienists, I was said its not possible. Overall, I don't feel like going back there merely due to the front desk. read more

Some other reviewers have highlighted this before. They charge you after insurance processing an exuberant amount and blame it on the insurance not paying up. They can always do a pre - approval for such things but they do not. I received a bill of over $215 after paying $180 out of pocket initial estimate. The insurance tried calling them but the person responsible never spoke to the insurance. They just lost a family of 4 members as their customers. Stay away. read more

Like others have said, they overcharge. I made sure to ask that they took my insurance. My benefits state cleanings are covered 100%. I still managed to receive a bill for over $200 for a cleaning. My husband had a treatment plan set up with costs and they added other costs after treatment was performed. They also always try to "upsell". Telling you that you grind your teeth at night and need a $700 night guard or need $40 toothpaste or special mouthwash. I never once saw Dr. Costa and the hygienists and other dentists are constantly new. read more

I started going to Dr. Browning 2 years ago. I was told I needed a deep cleaning and would have to come every 4 months to maintain. At one of the visits I asked about Invisalign, if I was a candidate etc. I was told my Dr. Browning I would be a great candidate and also should consider Propel which stimulates the bone so teeth can move faster. Proceeded to get Invisalign/Propel. Fast forward, went for my cleaning this week, the hygienist said there was bone loss and I would have to see a Periodontist. She explained Invisalign/Propel was the cause. I asked for Dr. Browning, but she had left for the day. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed as I was not told this before getting Invisalign. Shady shady shady. I had an appointment for fillings, the day of the appointment, the office calls to tell me that the appointment was too late in the day and would need to be rescheduled. When I asked if the time of the appointment could be moved up, I was told no. If I were to call less than 12 hours prior, I would have been charged a cancellation fee. When I expressed my concerns to the office manager about the lack of respect for my time, I was told that during the cancellation call, I was offered the opportunity to come in earlier in the day, by a mere 15 minutes to get the fillings done. Fortunately for me, they called to cancel while I was driving into work and the phone call was picked up by my dash camera. So they lie as well. No apology from the office manager when I emailed her the audio of the call. I'll go to a dentist that treats patients with respect. read more

My experience at Costa Dental has been a disaster from Day one, beginning with my first appointment when I was assigned a dentist who was leaving the practice. The office was so cold I got a migraine. The dentist had a litany of things that needed to be fixed despite the fact that I see the dentist every 6 months and brush and floss my teeth twice a day. The list was so lengthy and complicated, that I had to return to have all the work reviewed with another Dentist. On this appointment the Dentist was both rude and patronizing and even accused me of violating HIPPA laws by looking at their computer. Firstly, I was not looking at the computer which the hygienist confirmed and secondly if whatever was on their computer screen was so confidential then why is it left open for any patient to see? It seems as though if anybody is violating HIPPA laws it is Costa. So my next appointment was for Glow Whitening which was recommended because I have a front veneer that needs to be replaced and that tooth would be matched to the color of my other teeth. I was told by the first doctor that I could expect my teeth to whiten 4-8 shades lighter in one office treatment and no pain sensitivity, the cost of which is $650.00. There was in fact a tremendous amount of tooth sensitivity/pain during the procedure along with a burning sensation on my lips. Before I left I asked if there was any ointment they could recommend for the pain and they said no. On a pain scale of 1-10, the pain level was about a 10 during the procedure and about a 8-9 for the next 18 hours, but only because I was taking 2 Percocet every 4 hours. After 18 hours I finally fell asleep at 8:00 am the following day. When I woke up early that afternoon, I immediately called the office and left a message on Costa's voicemail asking that someone please call me back because I was still in a lot of pain and my teeth were no whiter than before. No one bothered to call me back. On day 4, there is still no color difference between my front veneer which matched my teeth prior to the whitening and my other teeth after the whitening. I have asked over a dozen people if they could find the one tooth that is "supposedly" darker than the rest and most said no and a few people identified a tooth other than my veneer, however not one person identified the veneer as being darker than my other teeth, so basically I threw $650.00 away and for that I only received pain. I could go on, but just suffice it to say I do not recommend Costa Dental. read more

I always get the "up-sell" from staff for services and treatments that don't feel necessary and are not covered by insurance. For example, they encouraged me to replace my silver fillings because they said it was best. Now just 3 years later, they tell me I need to replace those same fillings that they improved! (The silver fillings worked fine for 25+ years and were not bothering me). They recently preformed some "laser degranulation" without telling me that they wouldn't even attempt to bill my insurance for it which cost me an extra $140 out of pocket. They even ding you $30 out of pocket for the fluoride swipe at the end of a teeth cleaning!! I absolutely expect to pay for regular and preventative dental care, but Costa Dentistry feels like they are just trying to make money off me. The staff are pleasant and the place is clean but I'm not confident that they have my dental health as their top priority. After 5 years of this, I'm done. read more

Front desk staff in medical offices are usually not too quality, so I'm always surprised and pleased by the knowledge of the front office and their desire to please their customers. Never had a bad hygienist and love the personal touch of TV's and "care menus". I would give two stars because dentist are amazing but front desk have no idea what they are doing. Couple years ago I had bad experience with Ashburn location but want to give it a try again, Since it was 2-3 years ago. NOPE! They are same. 2yeas ago, they over charged me and my insurance company have to contact with them and do all that stuff. Today I want to make sure my treatment plan is correct before my appointment. Thank goddess Im so glad that I checked! 3day ago I went to dentistry for check up and whoever treated me she told me I need treatment and bring me a treatment plan and it was 500 out of pocket. So I told her my insurance should cover more and she said she will ask front desk to contact with insurance. And 3Days later I call and asked the front desk, where is my new treatment plan because they never contact me. Anyway they sent me a treatment plan and they charged me triple more then first treatment!!!! I canceled my appointment right away. I used to hate going to the Dentist until I got referred to Dr. Kim at Costa Dentistry.  She changed my mind and eliminated my fear factor.  She is just terrific , gentle and thorough and with her assistant Neffer you would think you are on a visit instead of at a dentist.  They will do anything in their power to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.  I needed multiple extractions and a new Denture plate and she did a magnificent job.  I get soo many compliments.  She takes extra care in choosing size for comfort and  color to match, no one would know it is a denture.  They both make you feel like you were the most important patient.  I highly recommend choosing Costa Dentistry with Dr. Kim in Ashburn, VA.  They even have payment plans if you don't have insurance and they spoil you with relaxing television shows, blankets etc to make you comfortable.  But what really impressed me was Dr. Kim's artistry in designing the denture.  She took extra care in making it perfect.  Her empathy and gentleness  took me from being terrified to looking forward to see her again.  Now that is a hard mountain to climb, so thank you Dr. Kim and Neffer - you make Costa Dentistry proud. read more

Okay, so I didn't think I would be over the moon about getting my SEVEN 15 year old fillings replaced yesterday, but it was such a great experience I had to post. I was scheduled for 4 on one side and 3 for another day- Dr. Browning gave me my "Comfort Menu" Netflix? Blanket? and off we went. I felt like I blinked and she said, "All done!" I couldn't believe it- She said, you're here, do you just want to do the other side too and get it over with? Absolutely. On his first trip in we are told my son has four cavities and are presented with a plan to fix it to the tune of $500 or so. That seemed odd, so we took him to a different office for a second opinion. One cavity, that wasn't worth messing with because it was on a baby tooth that was about to fall out. I don't think anyone really looks forward to going to the dentist but after multiple visits to Costa family dentistry it's become a lot more comfortable of an experience. I have never had to wait for my appointment to start, which in my career is critical. Time is money and if I'm stuck in a waiting room it's a drag. Once I'm in the treatment room I've always been greeted with a smile, thorough explanations of the services available and made to feel completely comfortable. I would have never correlated a dentist appointment with a spa treatment but here I feel welcomed and relaxed and always leave feeling better. Everyone there is obviously well trained in the services they provide and make my visit comfortable and easy. As someone who would like to visit the dentist as little as possible, I would never hesitate to go to Costa for any dental needs. read more

We love this place. From front office assistants (esp Candy) to the Specialists (Dr. Kon, Ms Sam) everyone is so professional. They made us feel like part of a family and the care was exceptional. I love this place! They make you feel so comfortable here. There is a menu with several options that will entertain or comfort you during your visit. Going to the dentist is not everyone's favorite thing to do, but if you go to this dentist office you'll probably have a much more enjoyable experience. The staff is professional and courteous. I was a regular patient of Dr. Costa for 3 years and enjoyed the exceptional customer service I received when I was receiving a deep cleaning treatment through my time there. The hygienist were always very nice and made the entire cleaning process helpful. But In 2018 I went through a financial hardship and was left with a small balance with their office for a chipped tooth. I informed the office team that I needed some time to make a payment towards the remaining balance. But unfortunately they went ahead and sent over my bill to collections, which has impacted my credit and they also added two missed appointment fees to the balance, which is inaccurate. I called numerous times in the past 2 months to have this corrected with their office manager and I have yet to receive a call back or a status update on when this would be corrected. And as much as I liked going to Dr. Costa's dentistry, it feels like I am being treated like a number now because I couldn't pay my balance right away. If I get a call back from their office manager and have their billing statement corrected I will be happy to adjust my current rating. But as of right now this has been a nightmare to get fixed. read more

Dr. Costa, his assistant Dani and his staff, are above and beyond the best in the field of Cosmetic dentistry. Any problems that arose, whether with insurance, implants or otherwise, they handled immediately with the utmost concern and care. Always pleasant, always smiling, always holding my hand through it all. They are perfectionists and very professional in every aspect. I can be extremely demanding, and I have had more than my fair share of really bad dental experiences in my life, but I can say without any hesitation, that I would, with the utmost confidence and enthusiastically, refer anybody into Dr. Costa's care, knowing that they would be very, very happy with the results in the end. read more

I really liked Dr Browning for the cavity procedure, very little discomfort and really good bedside matter. This place is a rip off! They know your benefits and coverage details and would try to mint every single penny out of your coverage. They won't even cover a filling that was done by them less than six months ago and would ask you to cough up $ to get that filling redone. Would keep coming up with new issues at every visit when an issue did not exist six months ago. Crowns are a totally different ballgame. I have never seen dentists asking you to pay "lab fee" to ensure that the crown meets the quality and standards requirements. Do your other Doctors ask you pay you extra fee for making sure that the treatment they give you is the right treatment on top of paying their normal fee? read more

I started going to them from 2014 and had couple of cleanings done and a Tooth Cap as well. They charged me over 500 bucks for the Tooth and I still seem to have some pain after 2 years. I called them recently for a cleaning/sensitive tooth appointment, thought they gave me an appointment, when I went there, they did say I donot have any appointment with them and they are rull for the rest of the year. I asked if they scheduled my appointment to a later day by mistake and they did say they dont have any. The front desk lady was not apologetic for messing up my appointment. They try to automatically schedule appointments ocassionally and charge us for not showing up. That was bizzare. I had to call them twice and have the charges removed as I never even scheduled them. Me and my family will never go there. read more
