I used to visit SOCO for the waffle store on the corner or the Shucks Oyster bar. Now the chocolate or red velvet cupcakes from Susiecakes draw me in. Portola Coffee is still the longstanding purveyor of fine caffeinated drinks. We Olive bar has a bevy of beverages. Palm and Patties burgers is a favorite of my foodie coworkers and me. I happened to be here during the Lunar New Year event so one of the areas was decked out with Year of the Horse decorations. I also always walk by the Koi pond to see how the fishes are doing. Staff has always been friendly and helpful when I visit.

It's had it's share of anchors leaving (think Circuit City and Forever 21), but the owner (Irvine Company) continues to pour money into it, to keep it fresh and relevant. As an example, when Forever 21 declared bankruptcy and closed its store in 2019, the building was demolished in 2022 to make way for a new Restoration Hardware gallery store...which we found to be quite nice. Parking is plentiful, (mostly) covered, and free, with a pedestrian bridge on the 3rd floor taking one to the main part of the mall. And it seems to be one of the most dog friendly malls in the area, which is saying a lot. One will see a lot of signs for something called 'The Lot', which is a high end, ultra-luxury, cinema/cafe/restaurant, geared towards the clientele that the area feeds.

But, it feels really run down. When I went today, none of the escalators were operational and they were extremely dirty with gum stuck all over. I'm not sure if the elevators were working or not, or maybe just really slow! I could not find a public bathroom, and still not sure if one existed. I'd love to see Triangle Square get some shops, maybe a dirty soda shop or ice cream. I think it is a great location and has so much potential.

I left disappointed that it was more of a general toy store than a store specifically catered to enhancing kids' STEM aptitude. I like that the Newport Coast Shopping Center has a grocery store, a pilates studio, and a huge parking lot here. I also appreciate its proximity to the other Center. The building itself is a new, more modern type of place. It's not my favorite place due to the parking and cold modern look of the inside of the building. Very industrial feel, no originality.
