I'll share the positives. The hand made tortillas were amazing and I could taste the freshness in each bite. The rice was fluffy and flavorful and the refried beans were fine. The chicken was grilled perfectly and I enjoyed the balance of spices. This style of burritos was slightly baking the burrito with sauce on top and cheese and adding pico and lettuce. I'm not sure if this is Cali style. I enjoy it. I'll share what I didn't like. I asked for a red sauce on top of my burrito expecting a chipotle sauce as it looked thick. The sauce tasted nothing like what the chipotle name sounded like. It had a strange Trader Joe's Asian Szechuan taste to it. The sauce was pretty diluted and gross tasting and overly sweet. I took the sauce off and the chalula hot sauce tasted way better. I also tasted the sweet pork as a sample and it tasted like candy. I'm not sure on whether the sweetness level was supposed to be so sugary but it was pretty off putting. It wasn't balanced like bbq or a Thai noodle. It was sweet like peanut sauce or fondue. Not the best tasting. I'm still giving this place 4 stars. I'm not sure if it's local or not. The staff were all really nice and I appreciated the service. .27 cents or so for a handmade tortilla is so cheap. I'll return. read more

The location and flavor of the food is good. I was alarmed that they wanted to charge $1 for sour cream, cheese, corn salsa or anything outside of the general bowl that only includes: protein, rice, beans, salsa and tortilla strips. When did the add on selections get a minimum of $1.00 on it? Even guac or cheese was $2.00. Two minimal bowls for lunch and no drink was still about $30.00. Ridiculous. Chipotle doesn't do this. So bad. Today's special was grilled chicken burrito. The medium hot green sauce was sugary!!! sweet, so odd. Everything else was bland. The grilled chicken seems very processed. A micro dot of guac was extra $, it got in the sugar sauce and I couldn't eat it. My husband got the same with red hot sauce. Not sweet at least, but certainly not spicy at all. Despite their restaurant being closed due to COVID19 they were fast to have my online order ready in about 10 minutes. Super delicious for very fair price. If you come often enough, you earn points for discounts. My favorite is Raspberry Chicken anything; best as burrito. It's like a meal and dessert in one. I ordered a chicken salad and it was inedible. I never write reviews but I felt inclined to warn people from wasting their money and time. The chicken was so dry that I couldn't even eat it. I asked for guacamole which was extra money and it was a dollop size. I had one bite and had to throw the $10 salad straight in the trash. Absolutely terrible. My favorite go to lunch spot. Costa vida is centrally located downtown, fast, and costumizible. Almost any one with a diet restriction can eat here and make a few modifications to suit their needs. The staff is always friendly, and I don't feel guilty indulging a little bit. Its also inexpensive for eating downtown. You can definitely make it expensive, bit the menu is very clear about extra charges. I try and stay away from carb heavy foods so I usually go with the small chicken salad without rice, beans, or tortillas but all the toppings. I usually struggle to finish the last few bites because it is so big but always finish because it is sooooo good! read more

I wish I had this restaurant back on the east coast because the food here is refreshing. It reminds me of Chipotle or Mexican Subway because of the way you order. The ingredients were fresh, flavorful and a nice change of pace from your run of the mill burger joints. There are so many great selections to choose from like burritos, tacos, nachos, salads, quesadillas, and enchiladas. I prefer the chicken burrito drenched in the roasted green chile sauce. I would love to give them more stars but I feel like there are too many little things that I have to deal with for me to quite go there. I've been here a number of times, alone and with friends, most often on a lunch break but also with the family in the evening. At the order area they move so fast they don't really give you a chance to add items (we love to add the sauteed veggies to everything) or ask questions. You have to speak up very fast right from the start to get anything extra/customized. If you order a salad, know ahead of time if you want a tortilla on the bottom. Often I order a salad to avoid the carbs so I get the salad with no tortilla, rice or beans. However, if you do get it head's up that it's nothing but a soggy mass at the bottom from the second you get the salad, and to me it is very unappetizing. Served on the side rolled up would be lovely and I'll have to try asking for that next time. I do like that they have a small and a regular size (which is quite large and would be VERY filling if you got all the carbs on it). I always add the sauteed veggies because otherwise it is a bit light on anything but salad greens. The dressings are all pretty good, and I tend towards adding enough pico that I only need a small bit of actual dressing really. The grilled chicken and the steak (only meats I've gotten) are both excellent. The burritos are large and really only able (for us) to be eaten with knife and fork so don't plan on walking and eating :) We've never tried them smothered but it looks tasty. I like Costa Vida better than Chipotle in terms of the taste of the food, but you have to play with stuff a bit to find what works for you and then know exactly what you want and order it fast! :) read more

I'm a sucker for this place and make a point of getting here every time I'm in Boise. If you're downtown or on Eagle and want something a little different, go here. The sweet pork is good on anything, but can be a bit too sweet for some. If you're looking for something more savory, try the shredded beef burrito with mild sauce. It's a filling meal and actually comes in at around 750 calories if you don't get it smothered (covered in cheese and sauce; you'll want to try a smothered burrito at least once). The chicken salad is also a favorite of mine, meaning I often come here twice in a week. Service is good and the workers are friendly. If you come closer to noon, expect a few minutes to get through the line, but nothing too serious. There's usually plenty of room to sit and enjoy your meal. Final note: they have horchata, Jarritos, and flan if you're looking to satisfy a sweet tooth. All in all, one of my favorite places for lunch, as you get a filling meal for a decent price with great service. read more

Came in when they first opened, ordered a steak salad. Lettuce was brown and wilted, steak was bottom of the pan and swimming in grease. Quest was cold, tortilla was definitely not fresh. My girlfriend had a salad too but vegetarian and it was same. They're supposed to be all about fresh, it was anything but! Never eating here again! I ate at Costa Vida with friends on our lunch break. We were able to order and eat with plenty of time to get back to the office. As a rule I am not fond of cafeteria style ordering, but I found it amazing to see all of the ingredients and to watch my chile verde nachos being constructed. When you visit Costa Vida, be sure to take advantage of the underground parking. As I said my coworkers and I were able to get parked, get upstairs to the restaurant, order and eat within that free hour of parking. I used to drag my husband to Costa Vida any time we were in Utah, and was so excited when one opened here. We eat there probably once or twice a month. Everything is very fresh and yummy. There are some things on the menu I'd like to try, but I can't stop myself from ordering the sweet pork salad every time I come in... I like that you go through the line and order your food, which is made in front of you. No sitting down and waiting around for a server. Excuse me?!
