The food is good, but I don't know what's the point for calling for take out when they start your order right then when you come to pick it up. They told me it would be ready in 15 minutes but then 15 minutes later I arrive they haven't even started my order. I had to wait an extra 15 minutes for it to get done. This place is cheap! They nickle and dime you for everything and they skimp on the meat. I got a sweet pork salad and was amazed how little meat was actually in. So amazed, i took it home and measured it. 1 ounce of meat, 1 ounce! I'm not paying $8 for a salad with rice, lettuce and 1 oz of meat. Ridiculous. They will load you up on rice and beans to fill the bowl but they are just being cheap, cheap, cheap. Save your money and go some place that actually cares about service. read more

Don't come here if you're vegetarian. Come here to eat the sweet pork. Put it in a burrito, put it in a taco, put it in an enchilada or two. It's so good. This is a weekly lunch spot for me and my coworkers and we just get the same thing. Haven't had the chance to try anything else. read more

SWEET PORK TACOS. Ok, so I have tried much of their other food, and love it all...but the sweet pork tacos are a personal addiction of mine. Very visible location in downtown Boise (no free parking nearby) - just wish they were open Sundays. All food options can be made Gluten-free, and if you're Celiac you will be happy to know the servers even change their gloves to insure no wheat contamination in your food. I just got back from my first trip to Costa Vida on 8th and Main in Boise. My vegetarian salad was OKgood, but the service I received was shockingly bad. New employees at a new restaurant provided a disappointing first impression. As I went through the line to build my salad seemed not to know how much of the items to put on it. I wound up with an extraordinary amount of lettuce, and had I not requested appropriate amounts of toppings, little less. The employee asked if I would like tortilla strips and when I said yes, he put ONE on my salad. He should have said tortilla STRIP. I was no offered cilantro or onions, and I requested extra hot sauce and did not receive it. When will Boise have a decent burrito shop downtown? read more

I'm a 40 year old guy who grew up in Southern California so I know Mexican food. I'm also white as white can be (blanco de blanco) so I can't do spicy. I tried the raspberry chipotle burrito and loved it. For a whitey like me it was on the border of too spicy but I ate it anyways. I would have eaten had it been spicier. The tortillas look and taste home made. Yes it has a chain feel to it. But unless you're heading to a hole in the wall in a business district you ain't gonna get more authentic. read more

The food is fine, my issue is with the price discrepancy between in-store prices and Grubhub prices. I placed an order on Grubhub for costa vida and was charged $10.39 vs $7.99 in-store. Plus, they are missing the option to choose a veggie salad on Grubhub, so you have to order a meat-based salad but ask for no meat, but pay for it anyways. Grubhub states that the price differences are because that's what the store gave them. Why does the store charge less than on Grubhub and why don't they include all their menu options? Delivery from here is useless, definitely don't bother. read more

This place is great! My girlfriend and I go here all the time to get the sweet pork nachos. Staff is always friendly and quick to get people through the line. Food is good, great quick stop for lunch and a cheaper option if you're not in for spending a fortune on lunch in downtown Boise. read more

I really wanted to like Costa Vida. It's across the street from my office, and many of my co-workers rave about the place. Having said that, I thought my steak enchiladas were just okay. The steak was bland, tasted warmed-over from yesterday, and was quite tough - as in, spit-it-into-my-napkin tough. The enchilada sauce was pretty good (not great, though), but could do nothing to enhance the unremarkable meat. My side condiments made this review a 3-star, rather than 2-star. The guacamole was tasty, seemed fresh, and was less-processed than that offered by Pollo Rey, down the street. The tomato-cilantro salsa was absolutely delicious, and because of it, I plan to give Costa Vida another try, with a different meat in my enchiladas or burrito. The manager near the cash register seemed to be in a bad mood; at least I hope that was the reason for the dirty look he probably didn't realize he gave me (which would make sense if my appearance weren't neat and clean and I were unpleasant) - maybe he was thinking of something bothering him. Anyway, my interaction with him was fortunately short-lived as he turned me over to a cashier, who was friendly and rang up my order quickly. My order included two steak enchiladas, refried beans with sour cream, guacamole and (amazing) salsa. It cost $11.something which I thought was high compared to Matador's enchiladas (Matador is a Tex-Mex place down 8th Street), where the roja sauce is superior, the meat always flavorful, and the chips and salsa a meal in themselves. read more

I've been going to Costa Vida in downtown Boise since it opened. I have loved the food and service. A few things that frustrate me: (1) Portions are inconsistent, as in I get used to a portion size of whatever it is they are serving me, then one day I get much less, causing me to feel ripped off. Consistency is important! (2) I sometimes like to buy just rice and beans or just sides of things. They seem to struggle with this and I get charged a different amount every time. (3) Their black beans are black bean soup - why can't they use a slotted spoon? It soaks everything. I ask them to strain the beans and I hear others in line asking the same thing. All of this I have overlooked until I experienced their unreasonable price hike today. Unfortunately I can't afford $10 for 2 tacos...especially for inconsistent portions/pricing and unwanted black bean soup. read more

Taco salad. Rice? Requested steak, texture of boiled tires, flavor of old dried up leftovers, tough enough to break a decent metal knife. Lettuce brown and wilted. Guacamole tasted like plastic. No real salsa. What a waste of money and time. The general consensus is similar around the group of people who all attempted to eat this meal today. Taco trucks are better. Yeah, it's ok for "fast food" Mexican. Their rewards are not worth it. I'm not downloading their app to get .01 back for $1.00. At that rate, I will have to spend $100 to get $1 back. Whoo! Their old reward was worth it, since it was .08 per 1.00. Way to cheap out. Speaking of cheap, the manager at the downtown branch is known by me and my co-workers as Mr. Chintz. He gives you the bare minimum of ANYTHING, when he is putting items on your plate. Here have a half a scoop of pico de gallo, Cheese, well, let's get a pinch and not put it all on. Whatever. I cringe when he makes my food. I hardly ever get rice or beans, but if ask for the peppers instead, they charge me a buck.
