Sorry but have to lower to a three. I think I was on a pretty high dosage of xanax when I wrote my initial review and wasn't at all bothered by the massive crowds and chaos. Either that or my experience was drastically different that time because it was a weekday. Today, on a Sunday, I literally witnessed two women almost kill each other because one of them "stole the other one's spot" in line. To successfully navigate through the masses, you better have some SERIOUS New Yorker speedwalk & dodge skills... which I guess I do, but it's still stressful and annoying. Savings are still unbeatable, but know before you go that it will be a sh*tshow. Makes sense seeing as this is the only Costco in Arlington or DC. Everyone is there and a lot of them are angry. The website says they open at 10 am but when we got there just after 10 today it seemed like they'd already been open a while as the parking lot's 80% full and many people were already leaving. At 11 there is a short line to get in. Not sure what the shopper limit is but it didn't feel uncrowded inside. They have staff at the door handing out wipes for your cart. But if you are looking for toilet paper they still haven't restocked. read more

A trip to Costco is no easy feat, there are long lines to deal with and I almost always get the back of my ankles pinched by an unweildy grocery cart. Love this Costco and all of their employees. No love for the parking company. This narrative is for them as there is always something questionable happening with the parking situation. For example, waiting in line for over an hour to get in or exit and charged that time in parking fees is. .. really crazy. I was just there. It took over 30 min to park. Less than an hour to shop and the 2 minutes to exit. Parking is supposed to be free for 2 hours. How much should I have been charged on exit? My ticket time on the card was less than 1 hour and 20 minutes (yes, we picked up pizza. Which is really necessary when shopping at Costco). In normal math $0. In that parking lot $4. Yes.. my ticket was validated. I didn't want to cause another back up. So I paid it and left. Someone needs to look into this. While it may seem like a small amount, add in all the parking spots and the fact that the entry is "unmanned" and you got yourself a NY style ..business worthy of a law and order episode. If you catch what I mean. "It is just $2 or $4, why can't you pay that?" There is a word for that type of business model. Start with an e and ends with an n. I hope that whomever owns it, fixes it. Otherwise, I hope Arlington County or the State helps you out in ways that teach other business like yours a lesson. Don't bother calling the number on the ticket. No one ever understand you. Again, bad business model. Let's not forget the printer rarely has enough ink to stamp your time clearly enough. I always start the clock on my phone as soon as I pull the ticket or make a note of the time when I can't. I'm so disappointed in Costco meat sales. I bought a tray of EXPENSIVE lamb and it said it should be good until the 8th, I opened it the 5th and it smelled so rancid. It was old meat and I tried to cover it with spices but it's like it enhanced the smell of garbage!! I never come to this Costco location but after this experience I definitely will never come back! If you shop here I advise you not to come to the meat section. Time are hard now, it's not easy to buy groceries anymore. I paid almost 30$ for meat I couldn't even used, I'm extremely disappointed. I couldn't just drop my life to go return old meat! I lost money and dinner for my family last night. I hope the manager gets a grip on the meat section. read more

Really fallen through the floor at this location. Cancelling membership and may follow up with SCC to recoup the money fraudulently milked out by this Costco. If this is a reflection of Costco's new corporate leadership changes becoming more messy and greedy (which it seems like it may) then don't waste your time with them anymore. Have been an executive member for years but now they are refusing to honor features of the membership - this is on top of this location having a more disorganized inventory and a smaller and smaller inventory selection with poor QA - alot of food gone bad and clearly damaged items. They also mark prices differently for some reason. It may just be this location is particularly bad. The staff have been increasingly more idiotic, incompetent and all over the place here. I saw other people being harassed and mistreated by many staff, and particularly the managers names Quinn and one other shorter woman. Appalled they have employees who are so unprofessional and seem to be routinely pushing arguably illegal practices. Costco is usually known for great customer service but this place makes the worst franchises look like AAA angels. Either way this is the final straw. Save your money and time and avoid Costo and particularly this location. Updated note: After reading some of the reviews it seems Quinn and a few other employees are well documented to be serious problems at this location. However it seems like they have been present for at least close to a year, which speaks volumes on the management of the location and Costco leadership. Run. read more

I visited on a Sunday afternoon and was pretty convinced I was going to go into stress-induced labor at any moment. Warning: do NOT visit on the weekends. It is overly crowded, hard to move through the aisles, and lines are abominably long. Parking....forget about it. Yeah there is that garage but oy-what a headache. I'm glad I can walk here from my apartment. My husband and I decided to purchase a membership due to our parents-to-be status. We figured we'd save on diapers and wipes this way. FYI only huggies and Costco brand of diapers are in the store. We left with a box of wipes, but mostly, we purchased medicine and toiletry items after noticing the significant difference in price vs., for example, Harris Teeter. We bought claritin, tums, breathe right strips, and multivitamins all at greatly reduced prices per unit. We also bought a big thing of Snapple. We would have bought water too but considering we have a 1 bedroom and a soon-to-be born baby, we have zero space to store 80 bottles of water. The membership rep was helpful and, of course, convinced us to do an executive membership since it is, essentially after rebate, the same price as the regular membership. We will see how well it pays off, but for now, I will visit here occasionally to restock on baby essentials and other household necessities. read more

Gotta love Costco! I started shopping at the Arlington Costco about a year ago. I can't complain as its pretty standard Costco, however the parking situation is definitely unique. When you enter you have to go through a parking gate, so be prepared to take a ticket! However, if you shop at Costco, they will validate your parking which is great! The other odd thing about this Costco is that they have a parking garage along with outside parking. I didn't understand how this would work with all my shopping, but they actually make things quite efficient with large elevators that can accommodate folks and their carts. This Costco is usually pretty busy, but also well stocked and the folks working there are generally very friendly. My husband and I buy so many things here from food to batteries to pajamas! UPDATE: I never shop at Costco so never returning to the store is not an issue. It was my friend who let me know what was going on and he looks white. So annoyed. I was racially profiled at Costco at Pentagon City in Virginia. I bought 17 items at the store. The lady who checks your items as you are exiting Costco checked everything in my basket except for ONE thing which was in my hand which cost MORE than everything in my basket. It took her a good 60 seconds to check me out. I was with my friend who is racially ambiguous so he points it out to me what was happening. So, I got loud and said "oh, so you are doing this because I am BLACK." The lady didn't flinch and kept on doing her thing. My friend and I realized I was singled out because the white man behind me who had as much or less than me was not checked out at all. He showed his receipt to the lady, and she cheesed smiled back at him. And that was it. She did not walk around his cart to check everything in there, and she did not look under the cart either. She did all of that to me and didn't make eye contact at all. I was trying to look at her in her eye but she wouldn't go there. If I were not rushing, I would have returned all my items but for now I will not renew my membership nor will I shop in any of their stores again. I am returning my Samsung watch tomorrow though. The Costco experience has been pared down and streamlined due to the current crisis, and honestly, it's kind of great. While the long lines out front due to limiting capacity and wiping down/sanitizing all carts between customers might seem intimidating, the line moves quickly! They have a large sign out front that immediately states what hot-ticket / scarce items are or aren't currently in stock (TP, paper towels, wipes, disinfectant, etc.) Due to the limiting of capacity, it's actually a really pleasant shopping experience once you're inside. All employees are masked, the aisles are all well marked and restructured to be one-way to limit people from getting too close. Their food court menu is pared way down to only include pizza and hotdogs. This location's parking lot makes parking and getting in a lot easier than the Fairfax location too, in my opinion. read more

I'm fortunate that I can walk here since I live nearby. If you have to drive to this locale and park I'd give this place -1,000,000 stars as the lot is small and traffic seems to always be backed up around the block on weekends, evenings, and any other time you might actually consider going here. This is a typical Costco with good deals, tasty samples, and huge crowds on the weekends. I prefer to go during the week when the crowds are a little less odious but then again they have more samples on the weekends. Dilemmas, dilemmas.. Also, the food court is really cheap for some surprisingly decent foot. I'm not a hot dog fan but those are popular and I enjoy the pizza, italian sausage, ice cream, or gelato. I remember the good old days when you had only enough core food options at Costco food courts to count on one hand: berry shake or fruit parfait, churros, supreme/cheese/pepperoni pizza, polish/hot dogs, and chicken bakes. Buck fifty for endless soda and a dog was so prime in the college days. Now there's all this newfangled junk I want to try out, like the italian sausage sammy and carne asada bake. PARKING here is AWFUL and PRICEY. They have a terrible policy here where they will try to jip you with money, if you for whatever reason go beyond the time limit (2 hrs), you have to pay $2.00+ (!!!) for going over, even under circumstances you cannot control. When I came in one time, I had to wait in lines that took over 15 min to get through, so really only had very limited time to browse selection and get the items I needed. Although this Costco is conveniently located, it's NOT run well based on how they do parking. They won't let you go back and will charge you $2.00 EVERY TIME if you do not comply to every single rule they have, to try to get $$ from you. ***Very unhappy with the "customer service" I received here from the Parking guy who for the second time won't let me through the gate for going over by a few minutes the allotted 2 hours! I get that parking is a hot commodity here in Crystal and Pentagon City as I'm quite familiar with this area BUT as a business you should really consider giving customers a break for giving you business...you shouldn't have to PAY for already shopping somewhere. The customer service at the Costco location in Arlington, Virginia is poor and returning items is difficult. In particular, an employee named Cornell provided poor service. Additionally, it appears that the management is not concerned about the unprofessional behavior of their employees. An attempt to bring this issue to the attention of manager Mrs. Quinn was met with disinterest. Costco have all sorts of products you can buy in bulk. It's huge that you can get lost. Not just that their isles arent labeled properly. Usually on grocery stores you will see the list of types of product that you'll see in an isle with a signage, but here instead of list they have numbers! What's that number for? I dont know! Then we went there looking for cream of mushroom we went around three times in the food section, didnt find it... we asked the staff if they have it they said we should check in the food area and pointed us back to the same section we went to. Tried looking for it again and it's not there. :( no cream of mushroom. To be fair, the thing that I love about costco is their food court were we bought their hotdog sandwich. I a really bad experience with customer service. The worker told me I couldn't return a perishable item I purchased the day before just because I didn't like it. I told her, each time I purchase a item if I am dissatisfied I never had a issue in returning it. She told me she has been working for Costco for 25 years and I couldn't return perishable item. And that she was going to make a bad note on my membership card for returning a item I did not like. I asked her for her name because she did not have a badge on. She told me to refer to my receipt for her name. I looked down on my receipt and her name was Yvette. I asked for a manager and her name was Jercedes and she was very professional and told me if I didn't like a item I could return it and that they do not make notes on a customer membership card. I also told her Yvette was not wearing her ID badge and she told me it is company policy that all employees wear their name badge. So the employee who works there for 25 years I guess is making up her own rules now and being rude to customers. I took a picture of the rude employee not wearing her name badge. I agree with all, that the parking and silly validation process stink. I showed my Costco card at entry, before entering the self-check-out area, and again at the self-check-out register, the card was then validated by the check-out machine before I started checking out. The guard, I mean the cashier assistant pointed to 3 large boxes and said she would only scan them. Then right when I was finished scanning all, she stepped forward and pointed to a small item I had put back in the cart and asked loudly and roughly if I had scanned this item. She was trying to be intimidating and was just rude. She was standing broad-legged, hands clamped behind her back, Marine Sargeant pose. Too many checks, for what I ask myself. I need to see what losses if any Costco had last year to come up with this redundant form of control. I will try avoiding Costco for a while. read more

The only downside to the Pentagon City Costco was addressed last year with the building of a new parking structure. This location was always too busy for their surface lot which is shared with a small mall, but that isn't an issue any longer. Yet another no-service, poor service, customer service. They target individual shoppers who don't have a huge loaded cart with 3 kids in tow. Every time I come here I am targeted. Today, I was asked if my card handy while in line. I responded that yes I do in my pocket. I was solo, and my granny small cart loaded and items in my hands. The employee demanded to see my card before proceeding to the self checkout and couldn't wait until I got to a register to unload and pull it out of my shirt pocket. I mentioned that my card was checked when I came in. (While others were not, like the granny who aggressively ran and side-swiped me to get in ahead of me(you know the type) .....nope not checked......discrimination because that employee discriminated not to look at granny's card but looked at mine. Costco has to do better to control theft but not at the expense of making members aka customers feel like criminals at check out. Change that policy and add more enforcement. Don't tell me that you applied all those cost saving measures for self checkout to keep prices low. They have only gone up since post pandemic inflation. More employees up front will save on theft. This is your typical Costco, conveniently located for people that live in the Pentagon City/Crystal City neighborhood, like me. It is near Pentagon Row and Pentagon City mall. PARKING IS FREE HERE FOR UP TO 2 HOURS AS COSTCO WILL VALIDATE YOUR PARKING! Before you exit Costco, make sure you get your parking ticket validated. Parking does get crowded here, but I always seem to successfully grab a spot without waiting. It does get more crowded on the weekends (surprise surprise it is NOVA) so I try to go more on the weekdays. THERE IS NO GAS STATION HERE!!! If you are trying to get gas at Costco, the next closest Costco gas is probably Costco located in Washington DC. Other than that, there is nothing out of the ordinary here. I blew two tires out on my car in DC. I had it towed to Costco and they said though I didn't have an appointment they would get me 4 new tires mounted in about 3 hours. I was having a really bad day so this was awesome. They said one rim was unusable due to a jagged spot that might damage the new tire so I was going to order 1 new rim and just ride with the spare home. Well they worked so hard, they were slammed with customers, and had it done in about two hours. AND the technician ground down the jagged spot so my rim was still usable. Oscar was my main guy interfacing with me but many others helped. I have honestly almost never seen a harder working group, and they were very diplomatic with some customers who were maybe a little frustrated by the waiting time. I've been coming to this Costco a lot since I moved to the area about a year ago. If you've ever been to a Costco, you know the general experience, so I really shouldn't have to spend much time rehashing what you already know. One of the things that I typically dread about this location is the parking situation. Up until a few months ago, it was a complete disaster, cluster**** if you will. They recently opened up a giant parking garage next to it, which has helped alleviate some of the parking issue, but the traffic at all hours is ridiculous. I have almost been hit going up and down the parking garage because the configuration of the garage is so narrow. Plus cars are zipping up and down the ramps way too fast. Makes me nervous all the time - maybe adding some mirrors so drivers can see around the corners. A simple suggestion, I suppose. This Costco also does not sell hard alcohol, so you only got your selection of beer and wine. You'll need to make a trip to the Costco in DC or your local VABC store if you want the strong stuff. I do love Costco for the food options. Chicken bake is a go-to classic for me. Try the mocha freeze - it's like a Starbucks Frappuccino. The whole pizzas are $10 - what a steal and so darn good too! Awful customer service, the staff look stressed and unhappy and most have an attitude problem. My guess is the managers and supervisors are likely running an uninspired, snarky, sad store that doesn't value good service. It's a shame because historically costco was known for their upbeat service. Toxic environment is what I'm guessing must be going on inside this store. Skip this location. On top of the awful staff, the Produce and food area are mediocre at best. Subpar quality of fresh foods. Parking is difficult, the place is too cramped and crowded.
