This is the only Costco in Eastlake/Otay Area. They do a great job with customer service considering that it is typically very busy. We totally need another one in this area though. Nevertheless, I've been to every single location in San Diego and the best selections have been at this location. The prices continue to be affordable. Today I found two things at Costco for cheaper than I had just purchased on Amazon. Suggestion, look here before purchasing elsewhere. They've done a great job mandating social distancing procedures. This review is for the optical department and not the independent optometry office inside. Covid measures are severely lacking. Especially in optical department. Technicians asked covid questions and took temperature AFTER standing next to and having customers try on multiple glasses. One customer tried on glasses without her mask on. Wait area for optometrist office was crowded and filled optical area. So glad that I found glasses at another costco that followed proper protocol which included limiting people in optical area, temperature checks BEFORE recieving optical services and sanitizing work area after each customer. Came in on July 21st at 6:30P because my tire looked dangerously low at the movie theater so I brought it back to where I bought the tires, Costco Tire Center. They had me wait 2 hours to tell me nothing was wrong with the car. They didn't notify me it was ready, I had to go to the front desk because the store was closed, it was 8:38P by then. I asked the young man that finally showed (same who checked me in) why it took 2 hours to tell me nothing was wrong with the car and he said, because I was a walk-in and didn't have an appointment. I asked him, "so you're saying I had to wait 2 hours for you to tell me nothing was wrong only because I didn't have an appointment?" and his reply was simply "Yes". That was Sa**y at the front desk. Super nice kid, not rude at all just very blunt, but with a smile. I'm giving them one star more than I wanted to because the person who finally brought my car around really tried to make sense of it and heard me out when I explained why I brought the car in. Very friendly and nice staff everywhere else in the store, it was just my experience at the tire center and my aching back from sitting 2+ hours on a food court bench...for nothing... that brought on this review. Doing anything at this Costco is always stressful due to the amount of people. It's constant traffic. I've never personally had a problem with the employees, but I have with the people that shop there. I regularly get gas there and each time I have to drive like a douche or else I'll get cut. People have no courtesy and will gladly get in front of you given the chance. The only reason why I continue to get gas there is because of the prices. Only time that I have never had problems is if I wake up and get there right when they open. If you plan to shop there any time after 12pm, I strongly recommend not showing up. This is the costco location we always go to... Pretty typical for a costco... They have an outdoor food court area, gas station area, tire shop, optometry, etc... The aisles are spacious and not as cramped as the broadway location. Employees are friendly. The parking lot is almost always full.. And it can get a little busy at certain hours. Actually, this place is always busy! Costco does not accept credit card, unless using their Amex card. Their milk and eggs (huge eggs!) are a good deal, amongst other things!... Huggies diapers... Birthday cake... No coupons needed anymore, it will automatically be deducted at checkout. read more

The time I turn into this stores parking and from finding parking to pushing a cart into the store, it seems like I really didn't need to come here. Narrow parking lanes, pedestrians, cars chasing the people who are walking out of stores to their cars, its a chaos ... unless its not the case on a weekday. The store is pretty tidy. There is always more traffic where people want to try food samples. I didn't spend much time inside than outside finding the parking. I could go through the aisles quickly. This rating was for optical department only. I went I to have two missing screws replaced o my glasses and was helped pleasantly. While waiting I browsed their selections of frame which were much better than the other Costco on Morena Blvd. unfortunately the optical section is situated right next to the tires center which gives out such a strong, unwelcoming smell!! The gas attendants are the worst! They stand around with their hands in their pockets, never leaving the tanks. I have witnessed this many times. Meanwhile cars are all jammed up because people are needing guidance as to where to line up. Who doesn't love Costco??? Lol It is by far one of the best store that exist!!! They charge an annually membership price but it's worth it. You can literally find whatever you're looking for. They have everything. Including gift cards for restaurants and also for Disneyland and all those fun parks. I particularly went for protein bars, some healthy snacks, and vitamins C. Obviously I found all of that!!! Not To mention they give samples of a lot of food which is pretty nice!!!! You get to try different items. Customer service is awesome!! They make you feel super comfortable...they greet you with a very warm smile and when you leave same thing. It is a little bit expensive but it's worth it because everything comes in huge portions. All the fruits and vegetables are super yummy!! Very fresh and tasty!!! The salmon and chicken breast are delicious as well!!!! Highly recommended!!! Me and my wife have been members (executive) for 28 years now. Just recently my wife was flagged (stopped) twice by management during the payment process (two different occasions for same incident). She was told that roughly 1-2 months back she did not pay $200 when she was being rang up at the register. My wife was stumped! First that Costco would treat her as if she were some sort of criminal and second she couldn't believe that they would let her walk out with out paying her bill. After all she did have a receipt that says she paid. As a habit she always hands the cashier the cash first (portion of bill) and then she pays the remainder on a card. When they pulled her aside they told her that they reviewed the video and that the video showed that she didn't hand the cashier the $200. So my wife asked to see this video and they told her that they no longer had it as it had been erased already. Hum... what a coincidence! My wife asked to speak with the store manager and they said that he/she was not in at the moment. Shame on you Costco for accusing a good customer of not paying $200 from a transaction that was 1-2 months old. If that cashier was short $200 at the end of the shift and that $200 was cash, is it possible that they pocketed the money??? I mean employees do steal from their employers, that is a thing. I can't believe that they would accuse a customer (of 28 years) before suspecting their own employee. We will be taking this up with upper management as we feel we were insulted and embarrassed! read more

First time purchasing tires with Costco. The tire shop folks are friendly and answered all my questions. I have special order tires and those were easy to order in store and have delivered within 2 days. Relatedly, I will say, appointments don't mean much though. I came in on a Tuesday morning with a "10am appointment" for installation and my car still wasn't done until about Noon. What most people do is line up early next to the garage, and once the store opens everyone files in line and makes their way back to the front desk. So, essentially, your place in line is how you're prioritized. Anyway, just sharing my experience so others know what to expect! read more

I will never shop here again. Ordered a set of tires, gentleman stated they'd be in by next day at 3:30p. After three phones call attempting to reach tire department; finally, I get through. He stated tires were in as of this morning. It was 4:30p, I wondered why no one called me. He claimed there were two calls made but I didn't have a missed call nor did I have a voicemail. So I asked when can they be installed. To further poor customer service, he stated that I had to make an appointment & they weren't able to do it for another two days. Good store & I love the pizza & hotdogs that are at an unbeatable price. Of course the free samples are always a plus! This is my least favorite Costco store because of the insane amount of traffic. Be prepared to do a lot of swearing & cussing & pounding on the steering wheel when you come. There are a lot of insane drivers circling the parking lot & this place can be hell especially during the busy times when things tend to turn into gridlock coming off Palm Avenue. Going here it seems, always results in high blood pressure & road rage for me. It seems like all Costco's are getting like that. Its hard to escape the madness these days. I love my costco! Where the hell else can you get enough TP to last you for the year and dinner already hot?? I tend to go for only certain things. It is easy to spend a lot here in a few minutes. Because I really need these new ravioli that they are sampling mom......... yeah I learned my lesson I tend to go alone now. I always find things I never knew I needed till I entered the lovely doors of costco! Yes I NEED a lawn chair that sings to me damn it.... Considering that I just wrote a review on the Costco in San Marcos that I had never been to before but seemed nicer than this Chula Vista location, this review is long overdue. I shop here once every 10 days or so. The wine selection is noticeably limited compared to other Costco's in the area. The clerks aren't quite as friendly although the guy who checks your receipt is always smiling. So what is prompting this review is a call placed this morning to the tire department. I was told they could order my tire but I would have to come in to the store to place the order. It's about a 7 mile drive so not too bad and I was there within 30 minutes only to be told that they couldn't order that tire. To be fair, the guy who made the claim came over and apologized but it still didn't take away from the fact that it wasted my time. I never get a real warm fuzzy when I shop at any Costco but this just made it even more noticeable that this one needs to work on execution. read more

You really need to know when and what time to come to (this) Costco if you want to avoid the crazy-ness. I went twice this weekend. One time on Saturday around 3 pm and again on Sunday about an hour before closing. Let me tell you, Saturday is CRAZY! Don't EVER come on Saturday unless you really need to. And if you absolutely need to, then park by K-Mart to avoid getting run over. I swear folks go crazy over free samples. I was there w/my 2 year old nephew and I had to almost throw down with some chick hogging up all the free samples! I wanted to scoop some for my nephew so that he can munch on something while I shopped. Any other day besides Saturday wouldn't have been so crazy. Don't come on Saturdays! Consider yourself warned! I like that this Costco is so close to mama and papa dukes but the crazy people on Saturdays make it so hard to come to. I would honestly drive to Market street on Saturday. One of my favorite store. I like Costco a lot because it is such great place to shop. I have no complain at all for their products. Lose one star due to some of their employees have no service. They have no eye contact and basically trying to ignore you or push you away if you have question for them. (I found most of them are elderly ladies. ). Young employees there seems great so far as every time if you need any help, they are so happy to help out. Another thing is the location, kinda further way out. Exited to hear that they will open one in the mall, I think it would bring a lot traffics to the mall. Personally, I will shop the one in the mall instead of this one due to location is much closer. And you can have other activity after the shopping. The one pretty much just heading home as there are not much things around it. Only 24 hours fitness nearby. read more

This location was incredibly busy around 5 p.m. Friday that I was tempted to go anywhere else. However, I ended up at the register closest to the entrance, and it was quick. The overall design of the store seems as though people weren't following the plan, as most I've visited are organized in the same way. Maybe, they're the exception. In any case, I got my exercise trying to find items, and was finally successful. Prices are a little high but otherwise okay. They're close to being too high for the level of service but the cashier was friendly. I just don't think I'll renew my membership. read more

Costco in Chula Vista on any given day is like Christmas shopping everywhere else in the country. Why the hell is the store packed on Tuesday at 11am? Do people not work in Chula Vista? You have to time getting to the gas pump otherwise its like sitting in rush hour traffic on the 805. Usually around 9am in the morning is good or timing it after lunch rush and before rush hour home. The store itself is fine. I agree with others about the parking lot. Way too small given the amount of traffic driven into that location. At least the Broadway location downtown has a huge parking lot. I really only go to Costco when I need to go. There is no down-time in this store. Part of the reason that Costco is so packed is because Sam's Club just didn't make it in San Diego so there is no competition. I miss the days in other states of just driving up at any given hour to a Costco gas station and actually being able to get gas or shop without feeling like I am on a morning commute in Japan. read more

Costco itself gets five stars but this rating is for the food court. The staff, especially the one who's giving the pizza orders, are rude. I asked the pizza order associate and he was rude and wouldn't even listen or let me finish my sentence. He just kept saying, "you need to go to the end of the line" and I just asked, "I have a ..." Not like other Costco food courts, if you order by phone you can bypass the line and pay at the cashier/order window to the far left. NOT THIS ONE, you got to go to the back of the line, no matter how long it was and this line was long. By the time I got to the order window and got my pizza, it passed more than 15 minutes and my pizza wasn't even hot, it felt nearly cold already. I've been going here ever since I was in elementary school and I love the improvements! Being a member has so many perks and the has prices are great. Definitely love the food (pizza, berry smoothie, ice cream bar with choco and nuts) and the K. Bell socks!!! KB socks for the win. If you forget your card, it's okay they can issue you a temporary one. Oh yeah, and don't even try to find close parking, just park by the gas station side and walk. It's a lot easier that way and you can exit a lot quicker. People are everywhere so be careful to not hit a pedestrian. Optometry center is amazing. Dr Solis is really cool and so are the people that just work in the general area. Be sure to pull a number just in case it's busy though! read more

And there's no waiting area in the optical section, thus people are just waiting around the nearby area. The number gets called twice and then moving on to the next. The guy Jerry - need some customer service training! There's some people that got skipped because of this. Call the number louder and 3x ... wait and then call the next. I feel entirely disrespected by Costco employee Josh w the black glasses. As he was opening up a new lane he asks the two customers in front of me if they wanted to come to his lane. They said no. So instead of asking asking me (who was behind those two customers) to come to his lane he looks me in the eyes and bypassed me then goes to the lane on the other side and tells them to come to his lane. The worst Costco I've ever been to. I returned a TV and a few jackets that I purchased on Costco.com. The person helping me with the return had an attitude as soon as she looked at me for some reason. She was clearly not having a good day. You could see it in her eyes and facial expression. She asked for order numbers since they were online purchase so I had to look them up on my phone. She said we're lucky to return the TV on time since there was just one more day left to return the TV. She started the return for the TV and asked where the warranty is. I thought she was joking and I asked "What warranty?" She was referring to the Allstate extended warranty that automatically came with the TV. She said I need to return this warranty. I told her I only received the TV in a box and I don't know anything about the warranty. She said she needs it to return the TV. She called her manager and we had to wait for at least 10 to 15 minutes for a manager. Mean while she says to a coworker that the stress pills are not working for her. She was clearly very stressed. Someone else came by and asked for the warranty as well and I told her the same thing. Finally a thirds person came by, which was likely a manager and she said no, just touch here and touch here on the screen and it's done. The first person helping me asked "What about the warranty?" The manager said it's done and this is how she does it. The person helping me was so sure I received this warranty and I could physically return it that she was very concerned I would use the warranty on something else. Warranty is tied to a product serial number so she was clearly not thinking straight. I told her that she was corrected about the warranty and she said this is how she does it. It was a waste of time and it turned into a stressful situation for no reason whatsoever. These people need to be trained. Other Costcos I go to just take care of returns without any issues. This employee was clearly making up stuff to bother someone because she was not having a good day. She walked off after she gave me the return receipt and did not apologize for wasting my time for no reason. I'm sorry she was having a bad day. read more
