Cute little store but very pricey. We were looking for some homeopathic medicine while on our vacation and luckily found it here. They have a great selection of options for health conscious shoppers. The selection is very large, the grocery section is larger but not by much, that's how many options they have in clean personal products, vitamins, homeopathic remedies etc. They focus on health food and organic which is nice. read more

Up until today, I've had really good experiences in this store. Today I went in looking for something specific that they advertised having. Three employees were standing around talking and when I asked where the product was, it was clear I was interrupting and annoying them. One of them pointed in the direction of one of maybe 3 aisles. The item wasn't there, I asked again, it became even more evident I was annoying them with my question. When I tried again explaining what I wanted, the employee was very dismissive and interrupted me. Finally I got my point across, the pointed to the other end of the store and told me it was on a shelf and " it has it's name right on it". The thing is, it was a brand and packaging I'm unfamiliare with and would not have recognized so I didn't know what I was looking for. The whole experience was hostile and unfriendly and I won't be back. Hoku's gets my business now. read more

I spent over 40 years working in natural foods stores in Northern California. This is a very nice well stocked store. Yes, prices are somewhat high but what isn't expensive around here? We took an Uber here to check out the store and the grab and go. They had a few vegan items in their grab and go section. All were very good. Hummus wrap, tofu poke and noodles. The only challenge was there was no silverware or plastic ware so be prepared and bring your own! I ate with my hands ‍ We wound up getting stranded there with no ubers available and walked back to the hotel. But it is a very touristy time in Kauai. If you take an Uber, ask them to wait and take you back. read more

They don't sell beer and the pre prepared food options were slim. Went to this store rather than Safeway to support local but I didn't enjoy the sesame seed pasta and had to go to Safeway to get a beer and generic chips. Don't come here! I have been here many times and spent a lot of money here. I bought something that was incorrect and went back less than 24 hours later to exchange it. The product was unopened and unused, brand new. I was talking to an employee about it and they gave me no good answer and finally called the manager up. The manager said if I had bought it that day she could exchange it and I told her I bought it last night and it's brand new. She said she can't "in good conscience" take it back. Was completely dumbfounded because she said she could take it back if I had bought it that day. Was shocked they would rather lose a loyal customer rather than exchange a brand new product. I used Yelp to find this hidden jewel. In the far rear is a kitchen that skillfully produces superior fresh fish( just out of the water)tacos. In addition,there are broad variety of bowls, wraps and plates of delicious vegetarian fare. The rest of the small store has everything you need to satisfy a vegetarian diet. Also available locally produced organic meats. I took home Kauai organic, grass fed rib eyes, sweet potatoes etc to grill a locally produced meal tonight by the ocean! I came here for something to help alleviate what I thought was just an eczema flare up. (The next day it was obvious it was more than eczema). The staff was knowledgeable and guided me to some anti itch creme that was formulated for eczema and an eczema lotion. This is a small store, about 1/4 size of a Whole Foods or Sprouts but a viable option for those looking for specific diet friendly foods. I also picked up some Keto friendly snacks. Although I do recommend skipping buying the macadamia nuts here. I paid $10 for 2.5 oz bag. The ABC stores and even Longs drugs sells a 10 oz bag for $8-10. read more

We have significant dietary restrictions and eating out at restaurants is not an option when we are on vacation. We travel with a lot of our own food, but finding a grocery that carries brands we know are certified gluten free (and that we rely on at home) makes traveling and provisioning on island so much easier. In nearly every aisle we found brands that we trust and that are difficult to find on the island. We are so glad this store exists, and we will definitely be back. read more

The best fish tacos and fish wraps. I had the blackened ahi cooked medium on corn tortillas. It came with two sauces cilantro, and a chili sauce, great mix of flavors. My husband had the blackened fish wrap which had a multi grain wrap and wasabi. He said he wants to eat one of these everyday, it was that good. We also grabbed a green tea dragonfruit drink and some wasabi chips from the grocery isles. A nicely stocked store and prices were in line with what you would pay at larger stores for organic goods. If you have food allergies, they have a book ready to look up the ingredients for all of the sauces. read more

Covid got rid of the salad bar so there were only a couple small vegan options to choose from. I bought an expensive sesame noodle salad that left a lot to be desired. HEALTHY AND YUMMY We came here on accident it's a market with a little food spot in the back. Didn't know what to get and the guy working gave us his recommendations. Fish tacos were good but we liked the grilled fish over the seared. It had Cajun seasoning. Yum. Reuben burrito was yummy! I have zero idea what was inside tho lol. I didn't read the menu but it tasted really healthy lol Edit: So I looked it up and the Reuben burrito had TEMPEH in it! An expensive but much needed grocery, specializing in natural, organic and sustainability sourced products, Papaya's is one of the very few places to find more healthful solutions to typical island issues. Also, it's one of the few places to carry the elusive Kava or i'wa beverage, an evil-tasting mild sedative made from the root of a pepper plant and consumed by Pacific Island peoples for centuries, notably Tahitians. Worth a try in careful moderation, if you are having trouble relaxing or sleeping. Of especial interest is the little cafe located in the northern part of the store. Their salad bar is excellent, as are their sandwiches and specials, but the infused beverages are really refreshing and I recommend them particularly for weary travelers! Great pick-me-ups. What a great find just across the waipouli beach resort. They have all sorts of health foods, spices like paprika, turmeric, kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils, even naan bread. Of course it comes with a price tag for very little quantity but I am guess that's everywhere in Kauai. Even the local Safeway is exhorbitant with little value in terms of quality. I had their sesame pasta and tofu from the kitchen section and it was great. Will come back and try other goodies soon. read more

Papaya's was an old favorite on Kauai. I went to their previous location in the Safeway center and was disappointed to find it boarded up. So I was pleased to learn they'd moved a short way up Kuhio and were as good as ever. They have a fine selection of produce, many bulk groceries and healthy looking package and frozen goods. No fresh meats or fish. The soup and salad bar in the back is as good as ever. read more

I came here a couple of times when I was in kapaa and it's a cute little mini market with attached restaurant at the end. I came here because I was trying to find local Mac nuts to bring back. There was a market down the street where I used to buy them and they were closed so I went in thinking I'd find them. So I was told their macs are from Maui. Bummer. Unfortunately when you are on Kauai most of the workers here have literally only lived in the island for less than a year and they have no idea what's going on locally. So when I tried to ask where you can find local Mac nuts I get a blank stare, argg. Ok I digress. Since I was running out of ideas in my local Mac nut hunt I decided to buy the ones they had ( and lie to the gift receivers) and I thought I'd pick up something to eat. The macs come in bulk and they were pretty fresh tasting ( snuck one) so I bought a couple pounds. I saw they had a fantastic salad bar and was almost going to go for that but the veggie burger was highly reviewed made with taro which seemed islandly. They also had a vegan soup that looked amazing a curried bean type soup. Didn't even look st the prices because I thought a bowl of soup would be a fixed price. I saw they also had a lot of local veggies and even the giant green husk coconuts which were cheaper than most places. I passed since I already burned though a bunch of cash at the expensive farmers markets. So everything was a five star experience until I got to the checkout line. I never thought a couple of items could cost $60 but it did. The soup turns out to be by weight so they got me there as that guy was heavy. Ok I'm on an island and from the Bay Area so poor me right? ? Sucked it up and decide to eat my goodies on the outdoor tables which by the way are in high demand. Ok so the burger was a bit soggy and not firm but it wasn't bad at all. The taro has a texture of a black bean burger but with a hint of sweetness. The soup was fantastic and I saved for later. You could tell it was freshly made in house with their own dried beans. So overall this is a good place to stop by to pick up a couple of items. Beware to keep it at a few and don't come too hungry. read more

What a great store! I'd bet this place would be more popular if it had a big sign above the entry. If you blink, you may miss it. It's tucked in about 40 feet from the street in a lil strip mall. I'd compare this to a little Whole Foods Market. But I like this place better. Cool friendly staff with some really great products! The attached cafe looks really cool too. This place is like your neighborhood Whole Foods, but smaller in scale. It sells everything natural and organic. I came to this place for lunch and it satisfied my hunger and tastebuds! The Ahi Burrito is a must get. I couldn't get enough of the local fresh fish grilled with slaw and wrapped in tortilla with creamy sauce. The ahi was seared perfectly and all the flavors and textures were perfect. The Taro Burrito had a homemade taro patty with brown rice, veggies, slaw, and creamy dressing. This was unique and delicious as well. I'd still prefer the Ahi Burrito next time I come back. This is perfect a perfect to-go lunch to eat during a hike or at the beach. Just make sure to eat the Ahi early and not let it sit out in the sun. : ) read more

Produce prices are quite high here its unbelievable. Like their selection in the health dept. Customer service is good in the health dept but non existant in the food depts. Grocery items are expensive. Checking out the other evening, older male cashier didn't thank me after the transaction. Just said "here you go" as he gave me the receipt.
