As a wholesale store, Costco can't be beat. And as far as this one goes, good selection and a good store. But this review is for the pharmacy. Absolutely one of the WORST pharmacies ive ever used. I have always had great experiences with Costco pharmacies but not this one. I have been using this pharmacy for probably about a year and a half, and constantly give it second chances. But no more, I will no longer use this pharmacy. Countless times over and over they do not have my prescription, sometimes not ready, even though it's been about 4 days, or it's not even in their system. I recently two days ago, in person (since I've had such bad times with electronic refills), dropped off a refill for an inhaler I need daily, went in today and nope it's not even in their computer. Then they tried to give me someone else's medication. I'm done, after a year and a half on this nonsense, I'm done. Taking my business elsewhere and not looking back. read more

I can say enough about Valerie in the floral department of Novato, Costco. She has gone over and above twice to help me with Valentine flowers for Novato Community hospital and now helping me get the right color scheme flowers for a memorial service for a dear friend. Valerie cares about your needs and goes all out to help you. She even gave me her cell number to keep in touch with what flowers were available. She checked with the Santa Rosa Costco too. I suggest you thoroughly vet any vendors that Costco proposes for outside services such as heating and air conditioning. I just left a Yelp review on my experience with Costco's heating and cooling vendor, Haddon Heating and Cooling. Horrible horrible store...I went with a friend and had to finish a phone call outside . I observed the door guy handing out Sani wipes to EVERYONE and as I approached the door I showed my card and asked for a wipe... he told me I couldn't have one as he handed them to other people.. It was explained that I had to have a cart to have a wipe(although he gave them to other people without carts) my intention was to find my friend grab a kitty litter and have a hot dog while I waited... I was told in the middle of a massive pandemic as someone with asmatha that I couldn't have a 2cent wipe...(I forgot this one day to bring mine that I typically carry with me) although when I go to Safeway they have them readily available. then they refused to give a membership refund or ever consider my medical needs and I'm sorry but a wipe in the middle of middle of a pandemic seems easy.. Personally I'd go to smart and final a 2cent wipe seems super easy for a Corp of this size...that I can't have one was really it was pretty humiliating... read more

This review is for Costco Tire Center only. When I noticed a nail in the tire of my Mini Cooper, I drove to Costco to see about paying good cash money to get it repaired. Not an unreasonable thing to consider, especially if you're a Costco member, right? Wrong! Costco members beware*: Costco Tire Centers will NOT repair your tire if you did not buy your tires from them. They can give a rat's ass about you or your safety when you really need help. Instead, I went to Sears Tire Center in Terra Linda. Thank goodness I made it there safely and without going completely flat. For $20 I was golden and out motoring safely again. Normally, I would have gone to Diamond Tire Center in San Rafael and they would have repaired it for FREE since I always buy my tires from them. But, unfortunately, this happened after 5:00 p.m. * Also, beware of the hideously rude, narcissistic and entitled Marin County yoga moms who populate the area and cruise the Novato Costco parking lot in their huge SUVs with their out-of-control children. It's a recipe for unpleasant confrontations and blood pressure spikes. read more

I've always liked this Costco but the reason I'm writing this review is because of how two employees went out of their way to help me recover an item that I had left in a cart. The store had closed by the time I realized I hadn't put it in my truck and I drove back hoping someone would be there to help. Thankfully Alex and Sergei were there. Alex stopped what he was doing to help me and was incredibly polite. Sergei ended up finding the missing item in a cart he was bringing back. These two guys were awesome and I really appreciate the great customer service. read more

They do not take phone orders for contact lenses. This means you have to go in person to order the lenses and then make a second trip to pick them up. This is the only Costco optical department that I have come across that does not do this. Also, when I got my eye exam done there, the receptionist was rude. And then the optical department refused to enter my new prescription into the computer unless I purchased contacts right then- well I was trying out two different brands and I did not know what I wanted. This meant another unnecessary trip. When I went to the Daly City Costco optical department, then added the info to my account right away and I did not have to order anything. read more

I recently had a huge event that required a giant order of goods from Costco. We are talking over a thousand items, pizzas and bakery stuff included. This event took weeks of planning and we were lucky enough to have Seth as our contact person. He was so helpful and always available via email and phone to answer our questions and concerns. He arranged for staff to get in extra early the day of pick up to ensure everything was ready for us. He assisted us with counting the items and loading them in our truck which was not an easy task. Other staff assisted us in packing up baked goods which was great. Thank you Costco and Seth for the excellent customer service! I'm taking away a few stars because the awful woman who works the photo counter. So freakin' rude and dismissive. Has no customer service skills whatsoever, she never smiles and she is always real snippy when she speaks to customers. If you hate people then you really shouldn't be working around them. Put her in the backroom or something. I was standing in line behind a man who was trying to ask her a question, she immediately cut him off in the middle of his sentence and barked "no" to his first question. He then hesitantly asked her one more question but once again she cut him off in mid sentence and in an exasperated voice answered "get a new one"....bam...like that conversation over, she was finished dealing with him. This Costco is the closest to me and I hate it. The cashiers are rude and snicker sometimes amongst themselves with inside jokes about the customer right in front of them - it's disgusting. While I generally have some guilt in giving any business in town a single star - today, I do not. Here goes: -asked that the boxes be made light enough for disabled/elderly to carry upstairs or even take part in loading car. THIS ANGERED THE ASSISTANT CLERK - I gave her name to the manager Rob today so hopefully he sees it and calls her out. - not only were our boxes packed heavy enough that only a professional weight lifter could carry them...the box broke coming in the house, bread was under the fruit including the watermelon and I think you can picture 600 dollars in groceries in two carts packed so poorly..... - THAT WALKING OUT THE STORE PEARS ROLLED RIGHT OFF THE TOP AND NEARLY A DOZEN LANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STORE AND ALL THE ALREADY IRRITATED PEOPLE WAITING FOR PARKING OR JUST TO LEAVE THE STORE WITH ONLY A SINGLE PERSON MANAGING THE DOOR. -When the nice employee "Pi" (probably spelled wrong) helped load all into the car as he felt bad since another employee said we had to go back in and return the pears and walk back to produce to go get our own new pears. (Umm what part of elderly blind and disabled makes you think after a 600 bill that I am wanting or even capable of going back to the end of the store? And when your employee did the crappy job why I am being punished) Manager- I think Rob, but big tall light-skinned and hair manager felt that belittling me, making me stand in front of everyone in line at membership and waiting to depart the store repeating me story with a ice cream melting down my hand was enough to offer me a seat and promise that it make take awhile but eventually someone would go get my pears! THEN HE PROCEEDED TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE!!!! I waited about 10 minutes, threw away the yogurt ice cream I just purchased and left with the pears from no less than the guy who loaded the car with groceries whom was at the car prepping to leave. So good job Pi. The rest of you- YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL AND AFTER 14 years or so I won't be renewing my membership. This is our local Costco and its as good as you can expect with a Costco. Pros: - I've noticed the lines move slightly faster here than other Costco's on a weekend, they will open up more lanes as needed. - The returns service is excellent and I cant recommend them enough for that experience alone. - The food court has the new beef brisket sandwich - nuff said. Cons: - Now this is important. I was approached while in line by some sales-woman who works for Costco trying to get me to upgrade my membership to "executive". She was the most pushy person I've ever talked to and she gravitated toward me because I was buying a TV. It cost $55 to upgrade (but only $35 for me as it was prorated) and only gives 2% per year cash back. If you do the math, and you don't spend over $2400 per year, you wont make up the $55 it costs to have the additional membership. Seriously this woman would not give up after I kept saying no and I'm sure we have all met that sleazy salesperson who thinks you're an idiot if you don't buy their product. I'll go back here, but I will be cancelling this "executive" membership asap because it's bull. read more

What a disappointment! First, I had a truly unpleasant experience at the Membership Services station. All I wanted was a basic membership to try out Costco and see if it made sense for our household. Instead, I got an intense hard sale from Amelia, a woman who refused to accept "no" for an answer. I said three times, "All I want is the Gold Star membership for now." But each time she came at me with awful hard sell arguments for an Executive membership. No means no. She bulldozed me into the Executive membership and I walked away feeling like I'd been molested; it was a gross disregard for my boundaries. So if you plan to go to that Member Services desk, be mentally prepared for battle! And definitely steer clear of Amelia! Then, when I get inside to shop, I experienced disappointment after disappointment. I will admit, it made me realize I am perhaps a picky shopper. Being able to find exactly what I'm looking for from Amazon has perhaps spoiled me. I was unable to find any sugar-free dog treats (freeze-dried meats are so readily available everywhere else). The vegan food options were rare. With such a limited selection, I would have had to buy foods I don't like in order to get ample vegan groceries. And there were no 7 or 8oz. canned soda options. In a country with such a high rate of obesity, I've been gratefully able to find smaller portioned sodas just about everywhere else. With the combination of the mental violation at Member Services with such little reward for enduring it, I left the Novato Costco feeling physically ill from this experience. I plan to try to cancel my membership (wish me luck), as this is not a place I want to go back to. read more

Costco is Costco, right? Not necessarily. The Novato Costco is much more pleasant than the San Francisco location. It's easy to park and employees are friendly. They have a large organics section which I really appreciate. I frequently buy Mary's Gone Crackers, Bobs Red Mill steel cut oatmeal and gluten free flour, sprouted quinoa, medjool dates, Hodo Soy tofu, berries, spinach, power greens, mixed salad greens, celery, cucumbers, etc. I bought my Vitamix blender at Costco a few years ago for a great deal! Besides food, I also shop at Costco for books, dvds, clothes, contacts, sheets, kitchenware, etc. This location has an excellent cookbook selection! They are often new releases and books local to the Bay Area such as Miette and Chez Panisse. The Novato location also has really great workout pants that are comperable to Lululemon. This location is great and they have excellent deals. I pay the same price for organic produce as I would at Whole Foods, but I get 4x the quantity. I recommend going during the week if you want to avoid lines. read more

Well it's a Costco and being the only Costco in Marin County it get's very, very, very busy on the weekends so timing is everything! Being Marin County they have a bunch of other items that you typically wouldn't find in other Costco's such as $2,400 bottles of Screaming Eagle wine! I was like OMG I had only heard about this wine! On the weekends they have a lot of sample stations so you can get your fix on if your hungry but beware that's how they get you to buy stuff you don't necessarily need or went shopping for!! I've never been to CostCo optometry until today - I came here only because the posted price for a basic exam was cheap ($54!). Apparently the practice is called Christina Chun, O.D., Inc, but she's out on maternity leave or something, so I got David Meltzer, O.D. Ask for this guy. I understand it being crowded and busy: that's "the Costco experience." What I don't understand is the steady down-turn in customer service. It started around the winter holidays, which I attributed to new staff/learning curves; but now it is Standard Operating Procedure. As others have noted, the cashiers are often snarky and unpleasant; making comments to each other about customers and coworkers. If you have to gossip, keep it to the break room. And be at least passably polite to your customers. It used to be impressive to see how neatly and quickly the cashiers and their assistants would repack the carts -- now they fling items in with no concern or care, including dropping things on the floor. My cart looked like a bin at a jumble sale when I left there today. That's unacceptable. I don't know if the management has changed, or if Costco just doesn't care anymore. Too much success? A couple of other friends have dropped their memberships; I'm certainly thinking about it. read more

Costco Pharmacy sucks! My vet clinic called the day before to fill a dog prescription. The clinic called me to confirm the prescription was placed. When I got there the clerk said she didn't have it. A call to the clinic confirmed they called they day before. I stood waiting as countless customers came and went, had their issues rectified and I just stood there. It was comical and frustrating to see the passive aggressive way the pharmacists and the little group passed on the pissed off customer. I waited 43 minutes while they slow as snails filled the prescription of Nextguard and Heartguard dog medication off of the shelf. Awesome! Thx and again your customer service sucks. read more

Female employee Tabitha, there since 2014, very bad news. Rushing the line, impatient with Costco members, rude, obviously badly trained ..... Very rude with me. I've had ID thefts and so I explained my paying would be perhaps complicated... She couldn't handle that at all and was reluctant to split up my order so I could test new Payment methods. They'd get a four star except for her. Actually five star!! High quality produce, columbos, dysen handheld for 150.$ Was rude when I asked the prices of individual items. Avoid her like the plague unless you're just a simple gray haired customer with a simple payment method. I can't believe others haven't had complex processes to go thru to deal with id theft and all that entails. What about people on food stamp cards and so forth? Another day another dollar. Be careful of linking cels with internet. Forewarned is forearmed. Great food there! Great customers and some staff too I doubt. read more

My experiences shopping here average 3 stars based on the various cashiers I've had. Most are efficient, some are warm and friendly, and the worst was a woman cashier whose long nails pierced into my steak packet and then blamed me for not double bagging it. Otherwise, this is your typical Costco. It is great for bulk fruits, meats, veggies, and drinks. On my last visit a lot of great instant rebates were available on many of the items I purchases, like $3 off Outshine bars and $5 off a 38 piece set of Snap food containers. I definitely go here right at opening on weekends or a half hour before closing on the week days to avoid the crowds and the often in the way sample carts. read more

This costco is super awesome. its never really crowded..or maybe i just get lucky everytime. the samples that are offered are delicious but not a wide variety. im a vegetarian and really would enjoy a noodle stuffed with just cheese or maybe just veggies in the potstickers. boohooo for me. im a huge fan of getting my movie tickets here for $7.50 instead of $10 at the movies. i stock up for sure. the staff is very helpful but usually are pretty glum. which is unfortunate. ive been to a lot of costcos and this one seems to have the saddest employees. note to costco employees: everytime i get the pizza my day is instantly better. always a sure way to get a smile on my face for the whole day. try a slice guys! read more

I have been coming here since 1991. I'm done with them. Not a lick of customer service. Nearly impossible to find someone on the floor for help finding stuff which they move constantly. Also , which the 'help' it's not 'low hanging fruit ' but its 'dropped fruit'. Unfortunately , this is why people use amazon. No matter what a clown Bezos is, at least his workers get the job done. And, most importantly, you dont have to see them, or hear them mouth breathing. This is a horrible place to shop. read more

My elderly mother went in to Costco today to purchase two chickens and flowers. Unfortunately when she got to the registered they informed her that her card had just expired. My mother asked if there was any way they can assist her with a one time pass or any solution for her to pay for her items because she only had enough money for her items and that she would return to pay her membership another day this week. The cashier called a "supervisor" who lacks ANY customer service. My mother explained the situation to her and the supervisor began shouting at my mother in front of all the customers. Come on Costco, who do you employ? An elderly lady being yelled at and humiliated just because she was trying to purchase something to eat?. My mother then asked the lady behind her if she could put the chickens with her purchase and my mother would give her the cash for it. The supervisor heard this and began shouting again saying that she is not allowed to do that. Why?. Is she that naive to think that other poeple have not used others memerships for purchases?. The point is an active member was going to purchase the items, what does she care who they are for?. The supervisor sure shut up when the member shouted back to defend herself and my mother from this humiliation saying "why not? why cant she? I am purchasing it and I have been a member for YEARS!". The supervisor knew she was in the wrong and walked away. I am beyond pissed that someone who works in customer service would humiliate people just because she thinks she can. She could have calmly explained the situation to my mother or at least tried to assist, no need to scream at her in front of everyone. Unfortunately my mother did not get her name but the incident just happened today 1/16/23 around 2pm. When I called Costco to request the supervisor who is assisting the cashiers and gave her description they said there was five supervisors and couldn't figure out who it was. Excellent experience from the phone call setting up the appointment for the eye exam through picking up my completed glasses. The receptionist, the doctor and the optical department employees who helped me pick out and fit my glasses were all extremely helpful, friendly and professional. The glasses are comfortable, very reasonably priced and included anti glare and scratch proof coatings. I have been getting eye exams and glasses here for several years and I see no other reason to go anywhere else. read more

This Costco has problems. It got better, but then that manager moved on to Petaluma. Now even returns are being refused without explanation. I called Costco corporate, they have no idea what they are doing or why. The people are unfriendly (except the one lady in a wheelchair at the door), or even rude. At checkout they rarely make eye contact, they are busy talking to each other. You can go to product pickup and be completely ignored until they have nothing else better to do - then maybe they will help you. If you ask about a product, they just say they don't have it - even when it is RIGHT NEXT TO THEM. They just don't care. The employees block aisles, leave boxes in front of your cart - it is just unbelievable. They make sure you know that customers annoy them and wish you were not bothering them. I have actually had an employee take my card and run off with it, even though I just paid my membership renewal 10 minutes prior, saying it is her property and I can't have it. The selection is better now after the re-model, but the staff leaves SO much to be desired. It is about the worst I have ever seen at a Costco. read more

This is one of my favorite costocos! Most costocos have very congested parking lots but this location is always quick and easy for me to get in and out of! The store itstelf is always well organized and fully stacked. They seem to always carry what i am shopping for! My boyfriend used to work at this costco and he had only great things to say about the staff and the customers (that is not always easy to say). That has taught me a lot about Costco runs their business. To keep employees happy when there are so many in a warehouse like that is amazing. One thing that always sticks out to me is the front end staff. They is always willing to help and are very personable. The food is always a plus and the samples are out of this world! I was such a fan of Costco, but this Novato store changed it. Sour, tired, crabby check outs. If you need a box, wow the attitude that emits! Items move constantly. I cannot find items that Costco always carries. Terrible shampoo, personal care selection. Watch the veggies- many are old or wilted. The same with milk dairy; did it sit outside on the dock? Milked spoiled in 4 days! This has happened several times. Today? No more polish dogs!!! The checker almost smirked at my disappointment. Bye Novato Costco! read more
