Costco is one of those places I genuinely love. Great prices, quality merchandise, and always something new to discover. But like a lot of people, I rarely leave with just what I came for. What starts as a quick trip for a few items somehow turns into a cart full of both "needs" and "well... why not?" I'm convinced part of the problem is the environment. On a Saturday afternoon, it's packed. Between the crowds and the sample stations every few aisles, it almost feels designed to slow you down and tempt you into buying more. So this past Thursday, I tried a different approach. I showed up at 8:00 pm, about 30 minutes before closing. Game changer. It wasn't empty, but compared to a weekend crowd, it felt wide open. No sample stations, no congestion, no navigating carts in every direction. I walked in with a list of five items and was in the checkout line within five minutes. Only two staffed lanes were open, plus self-checkout, but with just one person ahead of me, I stuck with a cashier and was out quickly. And for once, I actually bought only what I came for. If you're trying to avoid the Costco "cart creep," give the late evening run a shot. read more

We were gifted a year of membership from family I would never pay for a membership here for myself. I went online they say they open at ten so I arrived a little before I see people coming out so I thought maybe the website was wrong so I go in and scan my card and he says" no you can't come in till 10 this time is for premier members" so myself and a few others were standing outside like peasants waiting. They then say in a low tone" you all can come in" so we're in and I'm shopping I've got stuff in my cart go to check out and she says "you cant use a card without a PIN number" no credit accepted so I left empty handed I was embarrassed I couldn't find my debit card and she was just staring at me with attitude. Costco has serious sample selection, that exceeds Sam's shopper significantly. We counted a dozen on a Friday afternoon. They also have Topo Chico in glass bottles which we love as Sam's Club only has plastic bottle drinks for the most part. We have a hard time leaving this store. Sam's club does have online/in-app checkout which is faster. The value here is in the meat discounts and super coupons. They carry organic fruit including frozen such as organic strawberries. Your dollar can go far if you are careful not to buy any flashy items because there are a lot of those. We have always found clerks and sample specialists to be kind and accommodating. read more

Went In needing help with a return item, and the lady at the membership station Georgeann as soon as I walk in she starts refusing help and not wanting to try at all. Immediately she goes " I can't help you" and she was quick to talking about me to the other workers like if I was an issue! As I ask for manager which he was great thank you Lewis, he's done helping me and I'm sure he tells her to help us he'll be back and she looks at us and gives us the dirtiest look she goes to him " I'm not helping them" never understood her issue from the beginning because as soon as I walked in she yells I can't help you. Bought four bags of dog treats and opened one bag for my dogs, they didn't like it much so I kept the one I've opened and went ahead returned the rest of three bags that's brand new unopened. Great Costco in the northland. Super busy on Friday at 12, but mid afternoons and mornings are the best times to shop. It seems as though holiday goes on sale about 2-3 weeks before Christmas. I've been a Costco member since their Price Club days in Phoenix back in the 90's, long before they came to KC. The service used to be great, but now it seems to be more of a cult of smart mouthed "woke" people. With the many choices people have for purchasing, they might try teaching their front line, not ready for retail staff how to de-escalate, not ramp up bad situations. I was doing my weekly shopping last night and was nearly finished when I saw a stocker put up a sign that said .97 for 3 Gulden's mustard bottles. I thought "I think that I'll stock up" but then I figured it was a typo, as there was no temporary markdown or clearance sign. So, instead of looking like a mooch and getting the customary eye rolls up at the register, I opted to take the sign to the nearest employee. Bad move on my part, as the guy gave me a dirty look and when I said that I was just trying to help them avert a situation. He said "Don't do me any favors" and as we both walked back to the spot where the mustard was, he muttered a few things that I could not hear. He then took the magnetic holder, put the piece of paper back in the holder and slammed it on to the rack. Now the mercury is rising and I'm thinking that I really need to tell this jerk where to go. About that time, a girl who works there walks up and starts getting shrill. And the no-personality GM is also there and no apologies are forthcoming. At that point I said I that I wanted to end my membership, he tells me that I should reconsider, but never offers an apology. Once we got to the counter, he starts to figure out that I've been a member for a long time and it's probably going to have some blowback. Well' he's right When a store more than doubles items that you buy over a 2 year span, that's not supply chain issues, that's greed. I'm looking forward to shopping at Aldi, Hy Vee, and Whole Foods and giving Up-the-Costco the heave ho. read more

I'm still in love with Costco but I learned something new recently and I wanted to share if anyone is in the market for a vehicle to check out the Costco Auto buying program where they have negotiated the low rate for you with the dealership so you don't have to play the haggling game with the car salesmen. Also, if you use your Costco credit card when purchasing items with a warranty (waffle maker has 3 years limited manufacturer warranty) the cashier told me using the card adds 2 years so I have 5 years warranty!! read more

Horrible customer service at the checkout line.....I was told my membership had expired and vs listening to me as I told this young boy; I had renewed at customer service over a month ago, also using my cash back savings check.....he did NOT want to listen to me, in a condescending manner he continued to repeat your membership has expired....in no way did he want to help me figure out what the problem was, because computers never lie; he insisted on humiliating me in a line full of other customers, so finally I tol him forget it and as I walked away with my back turned be had the nerve to say "ok, bye" in that smart aleck tone. I then went to customer service to have them verify, it was confirm that my membership had been updated in August! The lady & manager that helped me out were very understanding and I do appreciate that but in the end I canceled my membership because I don't need to deal with young smart mouthed young men like I did at the register. If you are a pet lover, don't give them your business. They won't allow you to bring in a service dog of just 3 pounds (yorkie) without a leash. Today 08/03/2018 at around 10am I was denied entrance in the facility because I had my small service dog in my arms, upon showing my puppy ID they still insisted I could not bring it in. I demanded to speak to a manager, and he also said I could not bring my dog in without a leash. I told them I was never denied entrance in any store including those of the competence Walmart & Sam's Club. They said they had a different policy and had to adhere to it. It's ridiculous because they didn't only lose a customer, but also will let my friends know and I'll report it to the USSDR. Not only they denied us entrance to the facility, also the way their policy was communicated wasn't the most competent and with a total lack of customer service skills. My dog is wayyy more educated, trained, and respectful, than many of your employees, so go wonder who really needs some real manners and actually a leash to be working there. I love Costco but this location in the Northland is my favorite out of any Costco that I have visited including outside of the Kansas City metro. The location is brand-spanking new, there is a plethora of parking spots, and the staff are all pleasant. The only downside is the lack of some regional items such as Cauliflower Rice or packs of ramen / Asian noodles like they have in California. It's been a long time coming but Costco finally has a second location in the KCMO side and thankfully it is in the Northland right along MO-152 and HWY-169. It's convenient for those who live North of the river and the roads around the warehouse have been dolled up. I never have trouble going into or out of the parking lot which is not the case for the Costco location close to downtown KC. Everything is new here from the parking lot to the shopping carts which are still spotless. I do wish Costco provided cart-wipes but these carts don't look like they need them...for now. The aisles are wide and the floor is still shiny. The food court is already amazing because you can get a gigantic churro for a buck, a cold brew slush, and even an acai bowl all for under a Hamilton but this location has clean tables, the drink machines are new, the condiment and onion machines don't creak. By far the best thing about this Costco location is the lack of foot traffic. This location is so dead during the weekdays that it feels like I'm shopping at Costco back when they had exclusive hours for Executive Members. The weekends have a lot more foot traffic but I'm not bumping my cart into other carts here unlike other Costco locations further south in JOCO or especially the locations in Southern California where Costco during the weekend is time trap. This Costco also has a gasoline station which has competitive prices, the per-gallon price is at least 5-10 cents lower than other gasoline stations around the area. Their gas station is clean, the machines are new with wireless payment capabilities and more importantly, I have never had to wait to get my car next to a pump. It is INSANE to think this is actually possible at Costco but I am so incredibly thankful for this location. Now, should I let other people know about this place or keep it a secret? read more

I purchased a membership from Groupon and have never been able to activate it. I finally walked into this Costco to get help. From the help desk. That deals with memberships. The woman at the service desk was not interested in working too hard to help me. She said she couldn't do anything. That she could sell me a membership (which I'd already bought one) and then i could call to cancel my Groupon and get a refund. No thanks, I really don't want TWO memberships. Not falling for that. She had me get on the phone, holding for someone (who, I don't know) (maybe it was Groupon or corporate to cancel it??). I got tired of holding, hung up. What she was interested in was talking in Spanish to a guy working behind the counter with her. My problem was never solved. Sadly, Costco used to be my favorite. It's a Costco do I have to say thing else. Well this one is new and there are some bugs that need to get worked out. The food court is small and the lines can look long based on the layout design is this store. It will take a bit of times to get used to where the food is placed in this giant store. The wine is in one section and the beer is by the refrigerators food. The higher priced wine section is less than the downtown KC. Hopefully the fix that and double or triple the storage. read more

Bought tires from Costco thinking I was getting a good price. Found out Costco doesn't replace the valve stem sensors that communicate with the car's computer. Checked back with Diacount Tires and Ford Dealership. Not only do the replace the sensors when putting on tires they said they always match Costco and Sam's prices. Each of them sell Michelin so I could have gone to any of them. I mentioned this to the person at the tire center service desk and he basically called me a lier, told me it would cost $45 for each sensor, and I would need to pay for the dismount and remount of the tires. He then asked me if I wanted to make an appointment some time next week. Are you kidding me????? And I ordered the tires on June 2, waited 7 days for them to ship, waited 4 more days for them to arrive, and waited another 5 days for them to be installed. Discount Tires, Big-O-Tires, and Ford were either same day install or next day install. Costco didn't even clean off the blue film on the sidewalls. Basic customer service. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME ON TIRES AT COSTCO!!!!! read more

Cosco is a great place to buy your household goods. It has just about all the things you need in bulk! This is a great location off the expressway. I'd recommend shopping here! I have always been a Costco customers since moving to California many years ago. I now live in Kansas City. Today I drove over to get a Rotisserie chicken only because I have plenty of stock. The chicken was shut down and no one new this at the front. I wouldn't of even went in the store if I knew there was no rotisserie chicken I get one every time. So anyway I'm upset I grab a few things and run out and for the first time in my Costco history I realize I'm not going to go back to Costco look at my cart this is what you get for $49.00.
