We have been avid CostCo shoppers for over 15 years. When we are traveling we will sometimes stop in at the local CostCo just to check it out - especially the newer ones. Perhaps we are a little obsessed, but that is another story. I would not normally review this place but after reading another comment I had to relay a story of just how good CostCo is to its members. We had bought a large screen TV there and ended up having the optical input plug fail 100 days after purchase. After numerous conversations with different service reps, the manufacturer would not (initially) stand by the warranty and would only offer an out of warranty repair at my cost. I called CostCo corporate, but they could not do anything to assist. They suggested I contact the individual store manager since the problem was so close to the return date limit (90 days). I gave it a shot, giving the store a call. The store manager brought up the purchase, told me to get the TV fixed and said they would reimburse me for the repair. Calling the manufacturer back to arrange the repair, I relayed the story to the new service rep, who recognized how bad this made them look. The rep arranged the repair, escalated the problem and the repair was done under warranty within 2 weeks. Their return policy is legendary. Some items are a bargain, others just a fair price. Occasionally there are things that you are better off buying elsewhere. Like anything, it pays to know what a good price point is for things you buy on a regular basis. Tip: When you shop CostCo stores in MA there are a few things to know. First, do they have gasoline? Second, do they have a liquor store that is company owned. If they are not company owned they do not carry the Kirkland brand items. Kirkland is the in-house brand and is a particularly good value. They quickly sell out of certain limited offerings because the quality is so high for the price. For all those people who are not CostCo members, you can still shop the liquor store and get the same prices! read more

Costco is a different retail concept than the norm. They focus on a relatively few high quality brands and use their buying clout to get great deals for their customers. Part of keeping prices low is limiting hours and service. They are now doing almost $60B in sales based on this formula...high quality merchandise, very low prices and customers who don't need high touch service. In addition, they are very good to their employees (all get healthcare and other benefits) and therefore have significantly lower turnover than most of retail. read more

Unfortunately, the customer service here is truly lacking. My sister and I have a family membership, which means we are both in the account. I asked the cashier for 2 separate transactions to which I was scolded about how "bringing all of your friends in here doesn't benefit our members or keep our costs down." She then handed me information about becoming a member. Once she was finished, I made her aware I already am a member and my sister who made the first transaction and I are in the same account which she is welcome to look up! Her response "oh". It was disappointing to have such an unwelcoming, and unpleasant experience as my family have been members of Costco for years and years. I am starting to wonder if I will have a more pleasant experience at BJ's? As the consumer, she did not even ask why we wanted separate transactions and immediately was unkind and rude in her tone. I have been shopping here for many years. The larger size is not a problem, everything eventually gets used. The problem I have is they BAIT&SWITCH of brand items. You have to read the labels and really compare prices with other stores which are sometimes cheaper. I find that they have promotions of brand name items for a really good price and then they replace it with a Kirkland item after few weeks. The Kirkland version may be better or worse, so read the label carefully. A recent example is the Ocean Spray cranberry juice. The kirkland version is all berry juices, BUT its all from concentrate and tastes terrible. On the other hand the Kirkland tuna is expensive, but really good quality. How Costco Systematically Rips-Off it's Members on Annual Renewal Fees: This past summer, my Costco membership was nearing the renewal date. We don't go all the time, so we decided to hit Costco Danvers one last time before the membership expired, and then come back one to two months later, and renew the membership asking to set the renewal date at the time I renewed, and asked not to back date the membership to when it expired. I did not want to pay for a 12 month membership and only get 10 or 11 months of use. I went to the membership desk and the woman said no problem just shop and you can pay to renew when you check out, and then to save my receipt, and next time I come in check and make sure the renewal date moved to the date I paid for the membership. As I suspected, I was told upon return that when you come in up to 2 months after expiration, and then pay for another year's membership, that COSTCO AUTOMATIALLY BACK DATES YOUR MEMBERSHIP UP TO 60 DAYS TO THE RENEWAL DATE, NOT THE DATE YOU PAY TO RENEW. This is inherently dishonest. You may think one month's membership is not a lot, it was $9 per month for the executive, but now multiply this by 81 MILLION MEMBERS and you can see Costco is ripping of it's members for up to a BILLION DOLLARS EVERY YEAR. But wait, it gets more systematic.. So I asked if they can now back date my new membership so I'm not paying for the 6 weeks I didn't use. The woman tells me that if she does this on an executive membership, the system would automatically loose the cash back for 6 weeks. I said no problem I didn't shop for those 6 weeks, but she says it would loose a different 6 weeks earlier in the summer (??) so I would have lost $16 of cash back to make $9... When I told her this was also wrong, the woman tried to make it sound like it's perfectly correct, that's how the system works. I told her the system was rigged in favor of Costco. Instead of trying to work something out, she said there was nothing I could do. I'll tell you what I could have done if they didn't LIE to me in the first place. I would have out right canceled my membership on the day it expired, and then 6-8 weeks later I could have started a new membership, and that would have worked, but now that they lied to me up front about the process, it's too late to go back and do that. What pissed me off the most is the attitude of the woman at the membership counter.. I love the free samples here. Come on a Saturday and you can have a light lunch for free. Muy Muy inconveinent hours. They close at 6:00 on a Saturday, and 8:30 every other nights. You can sometimes find good deals, especially on books and DVDs. Their prepared foods, sandwhiches and salads are pretty good too. Beware, they only accept American Express. read more

In response to Derek, Costco is not a retail store, silly. It is called a Wholesale club for a reason and that reason is that they buy directly from the source in order to save member's money. You must have had a bad experience there one single time and then decided to vent online without actually giving any good reason. I know this because they don't play "Closing Time" by Semisonic at 8:30. They set up demos every once in a while to create a fun atmosphere, and there was a karaoke demo back during the holidays where they played it. (Yes, I don't much care for the song either.) If you are looking for a great deal on electronics, namely plasma televisions and the like, head to Costco. Their returns policy is basically no questions asked so if anything ever goes wrong with your purchase, you can always, always, definitely return it. In other words, this is a no-risk shopping experience, Sir. So, come visit us at Costco! (Yes, I work there.) This place is amazing. Anything you want or need they got. Just show up buy some stuff and boom you're all set for the month. Don't be too picky cause then you're just annoying, but if you're willing to save a bunch of money then this is the place for you. Tons of samples and tons of brand name products. You want a TV they got it. You want steak they got it. You want a Christmas things they got it. Also gas is cheap as hell why would you go anywhere else. Don't be snobby everyone is just tryna get some cha Ching so they can buy more stuff with that extra cha Ching. Also they have good food so if you're like me and you break a solid sweat shopping for random things then BOOM cheap good, fill ya up food. BOOM money saved. read more

I probably could write endless reviews about what I like about Costco. We're a family of 6, and most of my purchases are at Costco. I buy prime cuts of meat here, but even the choice cuts look and cook way nicer than those from the grocery store. Did I mention the great prices? When I buy one of their cakes, all of my guests rave about it, they are great for a big crowd and a steal for about $16. Just about everything I have had from their bakery is good, too. The food court is a great deal for the type of food that it serves. I'm always happy when I can get a quick snack for myself and my kids for around $5. And the sample people at this Costco are great, as are the cashiers and staff. The store is usually very clean and organized. And lastly, their store brand "Kirkland" has yet to disappoint us in anything. read more

I have been a fan of the Costco franchise my entire life. However, the location in Danvers is a disgrace to the Costco name and should be shutdown, re-staffed and open with a little bit of dignity. Poor customer service. And I mean god-awful. Ask them for a box to put your items in and they point you to the direction of the boxes. Shameful. Fought me tooth and nail with every return I made (and I'm not someone who does it often, but part of the benefits of being a Costco member is that they stand behind their items). I eventually cancelled my membership because there was no way in hell I would pay to be treated like dirt. I've since moved and started my membership back up at another Costco. I am a loyal Costco customer and I have been to several locations throughout the country. However, this is by far the worst location mainly due to bad customer service. My first bad experience was about a year ago when I wanted to return an item. At other locations, they are able to use your Costco card to return items without receipts, however here they refused to return my item without the original receipt. Makes no sense. My brother and I share the Costco account and have our own cards. At another occasion, I took his card since I misplaced mine. I reached checkout with my nephew who was throwing a tantram and the lady at the register said I cant purchase without my own Costco card. Yes, I was having a bad day, I should have had my card but I didn't. I told her that I, unfortunately, do not have my own card but she can check my name on the account, I am the primary account holder. Anyhow, the manager came by and checked my name on the account and allowed her to let me use my brother's card. I reminded the lady at the register THREE times, please these are 2 separate transactions do not charge them on the same credit card. Of course she purposely put everything on the same credit card, and then very rudely told me to go to customer service so that they can do a refund and do the whole transaction AGAIN! This is with a 2 year old toddler crying at the top of his lungs. Shame on her. I understand that Costco locations have strict rules for card holders, but really after several years of loyalty and thousands of $$ spent, they should assess the situation and cut some slack for people dealing with kids. By far my favorite of all of the warehouse chains. The employees are friendly, the fruit is always a great buy and I find the quality better than what I can find at the grocery store, and they sell top brand items at very competitive prices. I saved $80 by buying my vacuum at Costco. read more

This is my "local" Costco and my favorite one in the area. They must be a good company to work for because the majority of their employees have been there for years. I have to say that I do most of my shopping here. Whether it be toys for holiday gifts, clothes, steaks, or diapers...this my "to go" place. Recently, they had Carter's pajamas for $7.49 while the actual Carter's store was having a "door buster" sale and had them for 2 for $20. So even though Carter's was having a sale, Costco was selling the very same pajamas (style and designs were identical) for well below their sale price. Just one reason why I love Costco. read more

My favorite place to gas up my car is Cosco they are always two cents lower than the lowest price around. I also go there for household items and books and some of the best produce around. Takes a lot of walking takes some patience to cash out but it's all worth the savings read more

If you wear glasses this is 'The Place' for them. I was at Pearl Vision for about 40 min and a finally found a frame from Vera Wang that I liked. Price tag $179. FRAMES ONLY. I went to Costco and found at least 5 different frames that I seriously had a hard time choosing. Frames I liked were between $45 an $85 lens here cost $80. Frames were Jill Stewart (if that means anything to you) and lenses were poly aspheric with anti reflective treatment. Total $139. I'm getting another pair next month total for the two pairs $294. One pair at pearl would have cost me more than that. Helpful info. eye exam @ Costco $55. Exam @ Pearl $15 copay w/Tufts Wait time for your glasses 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. @ Pearl 1 hour. I was appalled with the service I received from the hearing aid center at your Danvers store. I spent almost $3,000 for new hearing aids. When they were ready, I was shown how to get them in my ears. The next day, I was unable to put them back in my ears no matter how hard I tried. After arranging for someone to take care of my wife (Alzheimer's patient), I drove more than 15 miles to the store and asked her to show me how to put them in again. This was before 10 a.m.. She told me she had an appointment at 10 and basically turned her back on me. She knew of my situation regarding my wife, and could have gone out of her way to help me for five minutes.
