Great looking, wooden sports bar. I went into it alone to watch the Raiders/Chiefs game on monday night. Not too busy nor dead, it was just right. There was only one bartender for that night, but he did his job well. Served as many patrons as he could and did a great job doing it. I had two 22oz 805 beers and a BLT sandwich and all tasted great along with the game. Overall, I will be coming back to this bar. Hopefully more bartenders would be working. As a get together place for office functions you can't do much better than Costello's. This was the third or fourth time I've been here and each time was a blast. From the decent food, attentive servers, and decent pours--I think Costello's has the general vibe of laidback and fun hangout. One of my favorite neighborhood bars! Never had an actual meal here, so I can't comment on the food. We mostly come here late night with friends for the live music. They always seem to have awesome local bands. Lots of parking with easy access. Inexpensive drinks with heavy pours... what's not to love. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Friday nite one of the guys from the group lost his wallet, and didn't realize it until he got home. Security found it on the ground and asked us if it was ours, and the guys still left at the table said no. An hour later the one who lost it realized it and asked us, and we told him security found it. And sure enough they put it in the managers office. Thank you for excellent service! read more

I would give Costello's 4.5 or 5 stars, but their draft beers is almost always flat. They simply don't take care of their draft beer system and haven't for years. It's sad because everything else about this place, their staff, the food, the vibe, the music, and set-up, are all top notch. If you're drinking and know anything about beer, I suggest only purchasing it in the bottle. The bar and service staff are all very friendly, work hard, and make it a fun place to hang out. I have always loved coming to this bar, whether at noon in the middle of the week or on a band night when everyone is dancing. The owner and staff are welcoming, the menu is great (the pizza was crowd tested before even being officially served), and people just seem to enjoy and let their guard down here. One star for having a live band. One star for looking like bar. What is up with the volume of the amp! Good grief! Don't come and expect to talk to someone and actually be able to hear what they are saying to you. You need to wear earplugs unless you want to hear blasting Boomer's music. We sat at a bar table and not one person stopped by to take a drink order after 20 mins of sitting. I don't know if anyone was working there besides the bouncer looking person at the front door and a bartender. The patrons look like older biker gang members. Screw that club mess. They look like old biker "gang" members. They just look like at least a third have had an experience with law enforcement at one time or another. Uf you are under 40 yrs old, you will not be welcomed. I doubt Asian and black people would be accepted here. I wouldn't be surprised if some type of assault happens here from time to time. It just gives off those weird vibes. There's not that many bars in the area so this place remains one of the ones you end up to by default. Every-time I go it gets worse and worse and l'm reminded why I don't like to go there. The food is pricey for "bar food" and takes forever!!! When they make a mistake they charge you and argue with you why the order was wrong. No customer service....they are very nice and sweet to their regulars but new customers are treated like crap and with attitudes. There's a cover charge Friday and Saturday nights and the bands attract weirdos! Stay away from this place! They may go out of business soon..I'm sure they won't be missed! read more

If you told me I could eat and drink for free there... I WOULD NOT GO! Growing up I have been to my share of dive bars, but this one wins the prize for the scummiest lowest class POS bar in existance. If John Taffert from Bar Rescue came in here, his take would be to burn it down and start over. The bitch of a bartender - who has an attitude like she was serving in a 5 star resort rather than a skid row dump - should go find another job as customer service is NOT her forte (look it up moron). The drinks she made were the absolute worst ever. I doubt she was ever trained behind a bar - probably got her job because someone trained her from behind. Even when I was a teenager, I would tip a server as I am familiar with the hospitality industry. Her I tipped accordingly - -ZIP, ZERO, NOTHING - which was probably too much. When we went there they were serving tacos outside and the guys (I cannot in good faith call them cooks) were hustling everyone to not buy a ticket but instead just order from them for a "tip". Mission Viejo is a nice community and I have lived here over 30 years. WTF is this dump doing here and where is the health department - I am sure there are violations all over the place. First impression? Well! I do not like the smell of sewers in a restaurant, pub, dump etc... That smell was everywhere in the place. Except for the back outdoor area. Cause of course, FRESH AIR! At the door they told us they only serve Pizza. When we went to order the pizza, we were told there is only one pizza ready and that we could either take it or leave it! We took it off course, cause you know, hunger! Luckily it was a pretty delicious pizza. No complaints there! Except of course, the price was $17.99 on the menus, but they made us pay $28.99 for a pizza we didn't choose and were forced to get because you know? BS. Then, later I was sitting in the outdoor back area because it was way more pleasant than the sewer smelling inside. This pretty robustly round guy with an angry face and a drink apparently thrown all over the front his shirt came outside and talked to the security guard guarding the back door. They apparently needed to have a security guard there, because of course, they must prevent these non existent invaders from occupying this wonderful, clean fresh smelling local! The guy kept coming out and going back inside several times with the same angry look on his face. A few minutes later I heard a ruckus and lifted my head from the game I was enjoying on my phone. The security guards were taking this petit woman who kept yelling: "let go of me" toward the back gate into the parking. I noticed a man sitting down near me. We started talking and he said, "I heard the woman had threatened another woman in the bathroom with a knife!" Yum, this night is finally getting interesting! The woman who had been threatened with a knife was right there and he showed her to me. Then the sheriff showed up. Then the robustly round man who had been assaulted by a drink came out and I asked him if he had been another victim and he said: "Yes. I was just standing at the bar and out of nowhere the female threw beer on me." So, the sheriff went in the back of the parking lot out of view to take care of sheriff business and one of the security guards came back. We asked if he was dealing with the terrorist? He said: "Yup, she bit me!" His finger and the front of his pants were bloody. And this is my review of the classy establishment of dancing, libation and pathetic terrorist that is Costello's . Costellos is definitely for an older crowd in my opinion. I love grabbing drinks there every now and again because they pour em up heavy! Definitely get your money's worth. The people though? I just left out of the restaurant after about 15 minutes of sitting down without anyone saying a word to me I quickly realize that this is not a place for a black man. Wasted 15 minutes of my lunch time just sitting there for no one to say a single word to me. If you have a different experience here in your black please let me know in the comments and I may try them again but for now I'm good. No one said anything bad to me but no one said anything to me at all. Wednesday afternoon for lunch at 1:32. I wish I was reviewing their food but this is all of that. I have to settle for McDonald's. Staff in general are upbeat and very friendly! The entertainment is always good and the food is not excellent but very ample (very good for pub food). This place is everything that it says it wants to be. Don't judge or dis this place. Point blank. You have come here for all of the wrong reasons and expecting everything out of personal expectations and experience. I Love Costello's. Go there at least 3 times a week. Great staff: Jaime, Colleen and Garrett. Very warm and customer friendly. The food is really good. I have enjoyed their pizza, tacos, burgers, chicken, chili, etc.. Never a disappointing meal. Great drinks and the best pours in Orange County...by far. I drive from Irvine but its worth the drive. Lots of big screen tvs, they show all the games on the weekend and the customers are cool. It does get busy on the weekends with the live music, but if you like live music this is a nice venue. The food is not very good. Rude table staff. Less or no waiters or waitresses. It's basically a large dive bar. Gang and Bikers hang out occasionally.. I think the owner has no idea what's going on. Bartenders are possibly drinking behind the bar and more then likely doing other mischief . Just my opinion. Was a manager for many years. And it's not hard to spot these things. I had a hard time not comparing Costello's to Garmans... just because it used to be Garmans. And we had the same bartender... Jaimee. She rocks. She is extremely friendly, and hilarious. We went for Superbowl... and got there around 2, in case there was going to be a crowd. We sat down at the bar, found a seat easily... and noticed it was really hard to have a conversation, even though it wasnt very crowded. It was LOUD. The TV volume was not at a level where you could hear it, so it wasnt even that. The bar is now open, where there used to be a wall just past the bar separating the tables. While it looks a lot nicer now, I think it made the acoustics way worse inside. Once a few more people showed up, and the game started and the TV volume was also raised, it was unbearable. They have 805 beer on tap, which made me a happy camper. My friend wanted a pina colada on the rocks, and Jaimee made one, and it was perfect. Turns out they didnt have a blender, anyway - so on the rocks ended up working out. A second bartender arrived not long after we did, and she was exhausting. With a constant need for attention, it was distracting. She was yelling across the entire bar, interrupting conversations... it was truly just too much. I was thankful Jaimee was helping us. No offense to the other bartender, but perhaps tone it way down. Two pros of Costello's are that the food was really good, and the owner of the bar was not mistreating his staff and passing out at the end of the bar. Again, hard not to compare, with a lot of the same similarities in place. I ordered the sampler platter, and it was really good. The chips were actually really soft, instead of crispy but I ate them anyway - because the guacamole was AMAZING. The buffalo wings were hot, and didnt have hardly any sauce which I am not used to, but they were still good. The potato skins were good, as were the fried zucchini. The only thing I wasnt a huge fan of were the mozzarella sticks. I dont think they were done enough. I also ordered a side salad because I was craving something refreshing before the fried food plate. The salad was SO fresh and had a lot of flavor and the ranch was delicious. It was almost garlicky. I went with the craving for bar food, and thats exactly what I got, and the sampler platter scratched my itch. We didnt even make it through the first quarter of the game, due to the volume and not being able to have any type of conversation... but it was a decent experience. I am curious how a band would sound in here, as I just feel like it would be too much and too loud, but if the Reflexx plays there again, I may go check it out and see. Another reason we left, the bar smelled like cigarette - and Im not sure if it was because the door to the patio was open and it was windy, or if it was because people were smoking by the front door, but it smelled like they were smoking right next to us. Went there on Friday with a male friend and the bartender seemed drunk. Was standing next to my friend when he ordered us 2 beers. She gave him a beer and walked away. Completely ignored me was only interested in chatting with him. I had to ask another bartender for a drink and she was very nice and accommodating. Later in the evening the drunk bartender was sitting at the bar drunk and sloppy talking with someone. I like the food and now I prefer to sit at a table instead of at the bar. Not sure if it's okay for the bartenders to get wasted but that's what seemed to be happening here. read more

Was just here last night 2/1/19 for the 80s band and to celebrate a friends birthday. The place was packed wall to wall. The service members did their best to deal with the crowd and long lines for drinks. We still had a blast even with the chilly weather, packed house and long lines for beers and drinks. The pictures show about half of the crowd that showed up. We've been here before but never experienced a crowd like this. read more
